Both my Gf and I came for Indian food, and should've left the sec we saw that the menu indicated they also specialize in Italian, American, seafood, and other cuisines, which as an avid yelper user knows, is a major red flag. I ordered chicken tikka masala and while it was under spiced the waiter brought chili paste that took it up a notch. Thought the Indian was standard but nothing exceptionally flavorful. Tamber's has always been a classic spot for food with a group of friends because of their large variety of options. They have everything from diner items such as sandwiches to traditional Indian dishes. My friends and I ordered carryout from Tamber's for a late dinner. We ordered the chicken vindaloo, chicken biryani, and chicken tikka masala. The food was made quickly and was ready in less than 30 minutes! One thing to note is that the pickup location is slightly different from the main restaurant entrance. You need to walk around to the left side of the building. The portions of each of the items were humongous ordered. I would consider myself a pretty average eater, but it took me three meals to finish all the biryani! read more

This is a pretty unique dining option situated just a block from the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus featuring a selection of both Indian and American fare. The Indian food is pretty good, my favorites are the Chicken Korma and Chicken Biryani. I've ordered the American food a few times, but it is not worth coming for. Come here for the Indian food. The service here is not the best though, it can take a while to be served and staff are not very welcoming or kind. But, if you're living in the area and crave some Indian food, I recommend coming here. read more

There are so many things I enjoy about Tamber's, so let me get the one negative out of the way--"Tamber's Nifty Fifties Dining" doesn't really give off a 50's diner vibe, like at all. It just wasn't the atmosphere I expected to encounter when I walked in. OK-now that I got that off of my chest, let's talk about the good things! I have decided that this is my go-to cravings place. You see, my husband and I crave different things all the time. I want Indian, he wants chicken parm, etc etc. Well, Tamber's is our new solution because this place has it all! I mean, their menu is just packed with different cuisines and flavor. To sum it up, during my experience I dipped a french fry into masala! Where else can you do that? I went with the Gyro (lamb) with french fries. The thing that stood out most to me with my gyro was the amazing pita it was served on. The lamb was also seasoned perfectly and the tzatziki was just right. I did think there was an overload on with tomatoes and onion, I had to take quite a few off to get my bites just right. The fries were just what you would expect, normal cut fries with a nice dash of salt. My husband ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and loved it (so did I). We did think it was a bit pricey, but the portion was pretty big. If I personally ordered this dish, I would make the request to have it turned up to make it a bit spicy. It's funny because the presentation of his dinner was very fancy and mine, well was a gyro, so it's never going to look fancy. But, that is what I love about this place! This diner is so interesting to me! A great selection of Indian food and American food and it's right next to Johns Hopkins. I didn't know what to make of the Indian selection, but I recently was the with a group and we tried several dishes on the menu... they were all done well, great flavor, and big enough for sharing. I came here with a group of friends. This place has a really interesting concept, its half an American Diner and half an Indian Restaurant. That means they have all your regular burgers, sandwiches and fries type food. In addition to that, the place smells like straight up curry. They have your chicken tikka masala, samosas, and naan. I came here with a group of 7 people and it was easy to call ahead and do reservations ahead of time. The decorations are kind of weird but the place is kind of confused in the theme itself. Its like an old school diner moved in after an indian restaurant closed down. Looking for a place for picky eaters? There is something for everyone here. Great to take a group to dinner. Over the course of the past year and nearly a half, I've been ordering carry out from Tamber's from time to time and it's been consistently good. Prior to covid, I'd dined there indoors over the course of the past 25 years and it's always been a solid place to eat at. Today was the first time I've eaten indoors there since covid hit. My friend and I were going to eat outside, but it was 90+ out and the A/C was on indoors so the decision was made for us especially since we had an infant in tow. Our server was masked, we were seated a reasonable distance from fellow diners and there was sanitizer at each table. We were there for brunch and had breakfast foods. I usually end up at Tamber's later in the day when they don't serve breakfast so I was pleased to be able to order an omelette. My mushroom & Swiss omelette was spot on with plenty of mushrooms and just the right amount of cheese inside. The home fries had acquired a lovely brown crunchy crust from the flat top which to me is one of the qualities I seek in breakfast potatoes. The iced tea was freshly made and delicious. My friend's scrambled eggs were equally good and cooked to perfection. It's hard to go wrong no matter what you order here and you are spoiled for choice with the diversity of their menu. Along with the food, what shines as well is the great service you get here. Considering that a lot of spots aren't happy when you show up with an infant, Tamber's was very accommodating. Luckily this baby isn't fussy and is generally happy so the waiter was enjoying interacting with her. He was gracious and attentive without being intrusive, which was much appreciated. With all the new spots open in Charles Village, I have to say I really enjoy the tried and true Tambers. I'll be back for vegetable jalfrezi this week. The staff is friendly, the food is good (and there's a huge selection with something for everyone, from your picky eaters to more adventurous types), service is quick, and the price is reasonable. Got take out here because in the area and was craving a burger. Got fried zucchini- hot and crispy. Fries - hot and crispy. Burger - hots, tomatoe, grilled onion, lettuce - slightly overcooked and ok but large. Malt chocolate milk shake was delicious, thick , creamy!! I've been here a few times and have ordered their American and Indian menu items. The first time I came, I ordered their Indian food and was disappointed because it tasted too sweet and had no spice. I give all places second chances, so the second time I came, I asked them to make it "extra spicy" and was pleasantly surprised. My table ordered the chicken tikka masala, chana masala, and chicken vindaloo, and I thought their long grain basmati rice and garlic naan complemented well with the curry. A friend of mine also ordered a hamburger, but it was nothing special. Overall, Tamber's biggest mistake is its attempt to cover all types of cuisines (Indian, American, and Italian) with its fantastically long menu. Really strange place. It's advertised as an Indian restaurant but when when we went there, Greek music playing. Sorry, I just don't get that. The menu is also more like a diner. Serving all kinds of American Cuisine, subs and breakfast as well. There was a strong smell of bathroom disinfectant in the entire restaurant. We were seated about four booths away from the bathrooms and had to request a different seat due to the odor. No ambiance what so ever. The Indian food we ordered was just okay, but not for the price. the Palak Paneer ($16.) was pre-made and reheated. I would have been better off with a frozen dinner. Place seemed dirty. Dimly lit, sticky plastic booth seating. This was our first & last time. Somebody please take over this restaurant and make a nice place out of it! read more

Three of us came here last night for dinner and boy was I surprised! First, I have never been here and it's in Charles Village near Johns Hopkins. I drove right past it and didn't see it-- it is across from, and kind of caddy corner to, the Barnes & Noble. (Bookstore points from the librarian!) Tambers feels like a diner but there is no all-day breakfast. *sadface* There is, however, amazing Indian food. Indian. Food. And it is really good. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and my partner had the spinach with homemade cheese. Everything was delicious and the portions were large. We also had a child with us who had the Lady & the Tramp (spaghetti and meatballs) that was also pronounced to be quite good. The menu at Tamber's is Extensive and truly offers something for everyone. This is a great place to take a picky eater or a vegan. They also have a modest beer selection-- thumbs up for the Sam Adams Lager & Stella Artois. The Best thing about Tamber's is the service. I have been by this restaurant many times and always wanted to try it. So, while my husband was in the hospital, our daughter and I went there for a late lunch. The restaurant is nicely decorated and laid out. Our server came over and greeted us right away. The menu is quite extensive; offering American fare, a little Greek, a little Italian and lots of Indian offerings. There is something for everyone here. We decided to go Indian. We started off with something I have never had: a Samosa - two crispy crusts stuffed with potatoes and peas. It was different and delicious. My daughter had the Mixed Vegetable, which consisted of fresh vegetables cooked in a mild curry spices. I went for what I knew and ordered the Chicken Korma, which was very mildly spiced chicken flavored with Indian herbs. I thought it was more than mildly spiced even though I asked for very mild. Each dish was accompanied with Basmati rice. For my husband, we ordered the Tamber's Brownie to go. They very kindly boxed the ice cream, brownie and hot fudge in separate containers. Tambers is a gem in Charles village. They have an Indian menu and an American menu, and both are delicious. As a fan of Indian food, are usually go for the butter chicken, palak paneer, matar paneer, malai koftas, or shrimp curry. It's a little pricey, but the portions are amazing. It's a great place to go with friends and split a bunch of dishes. My favorite comfort meal in the area by far. read more

I've been here for take out and for eat in and while the menu is all sorts of random it's not bad at all.. For take out I kept it simple and got grilled cheese.. Nothing super great about this trip, although I do think it's a little weird that you have to go over to a side entrance with its own grill for take out opposed to the full restaurant area.. The lady at the counter was super sweet though so she makes me feel comfortable coming back. The restaurant area is cozy with a lot of booths and a few loose tables. I went for a work lunch while Hopkins was on break so I'm not sure if it's busier when the students are in session but it was pretty dead that day. Service was quick and efficient but I was surprised that their corned beef came with just the beef. No cheese, no dressing just meat.. So if you order a sandwich be sure to make sure you ask what's on it. My lunch companions also enjoyed their meals. One had the crab cakes (he described them as not in the top ten he's ever had but certainly not bad) and the other had a salad she seemed to enjoy. I always get nervous when places have such broad menus but I have to say I was pleased and will put this in rotation when I want to pick up something quick for lunch. read more

We really enjoyed the Indian food here. We had the: naan, tandoori chicken, samosas; and because I was in a weird mood, I followed that order with a root beer float and fries! The naan was slightly buttery and fluffy - total perfection. The chicken was tender, well spiced and a decent portion. The samosas had the right amount of crunch to them and tasted so good. The fries and float were also really good. The desserts looked delicious, but we left ourselves without and room in our stomachs. I was a little apprehensive about trying Tamber's out, but I saw the crowd and thought it couldn't be that bad right? I'm glad we stopped in as their Indian food hits the spot. read more

We came here on a Saturday night and ordered vegetable biryani, butter chicken, samosas, lamb saag, and garlic naan. Each dish was amazing!! The food came swiftly. Three stars! I was hospitalized in Johns Hopkins medical suite after my dog sat on my back while I was doing knuckle pushups. I broke two ribs which sucked but I was able to sneak out of the hospital when my nurse fell asleep after losing $16 in a sports bet he placed on the Detroit Tigers (which I told him was a bad idea). I scampered through the streets in my gown, and came upon Tamb ers. It smelled great, but then again so does my Moms cooking and she can't even boil an egg properly. I was able to get a table and since I was so hungry I got both a burger and the Chiken Kormo. And It felt like I was back in the hospital on my morphine drip because the food was just That Good! I could feel my ribs heeling! Would definitely recomennd Timbers to anyone with dog sitting related injuries. read more

Okay, so lesbehonest here, 3 stars doesn't mean bad. it means A-OK and that's exactly what tambers is: pretty good, but not the best the chicken tikka masala is pretty good (what i usually get) here the naan is okay.. not the best. i think they should use more yeast when making the dough most of their other indian food is pretty good too! cheeseburger - solid! kinda pricey though... especially for the indian food and they don't give you much curry they have a fairly large space, so it's good for larger groups too. i think once we fit a group of 16. interior looks like a regular diner. service is average Overall, If you are craving some indian food or some diner food and don't have time to go off the Johns Hopkins undergrad campus, this is a great spot. but if you have some time, there are definitely other places in baltimore you can hit up for good indian food, burgers, or italian food.
