Five stars for the chicken curry. Dropped by for take away and we got this with their rice. Medium spicy. Good portion for two. The masala was very flavorful and about as authentic as it gets. Visited Kumari on a Friday night for dinner with my mom. It was quiet and peaceful inside. The seating area isn't large inside but comfortable as we were the only table for a bit. Our server/host was very friendly and took care of us. As far as the food, I truly expected more especially based on previous reviews of the restaurant. We started off with the veggie pakoras which were good. For the mains, I order the chicken curry which did not taste like any curry dishes I've had before. It seemed to lack spice which was very surprising for me. My mom ordered the chicken kahari and she was not a fan either. The food is always good and some days they have spicy shrimp. It's super spicy so proceed with caution. The fried fish is amazing and the chicken Marsala is good also. Before Covid the buffet use to be 10.60 now it about 17.00 but it's definitely still worth going. They also use to let you take extra and tea but not it's for sit ins. They keep the hot nan coming. This food was terrible - we ordered from Door Dash and it was honestly so bad we couldn't eat it. The chicken tikka masala was so sweet it was inedible. It was also dyed red and looked gross. The cream sauce was extremely thin. Chicken portion was also very small compared with other restaurants. The lamb vindaloo had lots of stems and seeds in it that should've been strained out. Lamb was very tough. Finally, the garlic naan was stale and flavorless. We threw it all out. I used to eat here often when I worked in the neighborhood. Disclaimer: I have only ever tried their buffet. This means I have tried a number of dishes, but they were not as fresh or bespoke as an individual order would be. That said, Kumari was fine. Service was good, the place was clean. I would say you should still try it. But for me it just want what I wanted. I tend to go for very spicy, very flavor packed Indian. Maybe that would have happened if I had ordered off the menu, but for the buffet it just didn't do it for me. read more

I seem to have long ago fond memories of this place, but maybe I am mistaken. The last couple times I went it was pretty bad. The chicken tikka masala was terrible - the meat was dry as a bone despite all the sauce. And the sauce had very little flavor. Even the naan was bad, it was way too thick. The lamb korma I got on another occasion was also bad, as the lamb was low quality and tough, although the sauce was good. The naan was bad in this case also. One of the better Indian restaurants in the area. While i have never sat in to dine, I have almost solely ordered takeout from them. Garlic naan absolute must, then I will flip a coin for the butter chicken or lamb rogan josh with the spice being nearing regretful but that's the fun in it. Chicken does occasionally come dry but sometimes that's what happens. Lamb is usually really tender and they give big portions of lamb. Still will order online for the future. We tried this place a few years ago and it wasn't bad. But we JUST picked them up the other day (takeout) and I switched it up from my usual chicken tikka masala to some lamb biryana, which sounded good (though I've never had it before). This is a rice specialty, so it's heavy on the rice - but holy cow, the morsels of lamb were INCREDIBLE! The meat was so tender - just falling apart at the fork - and both the rice and the lamb were really flavorful. So. Good. So good, that it may have just converted my 'default' order to lamb biryana after years of dedication to chicken tikka masala. Or at least converted me to lamb dishes over chicken. Wow. We also ordered saag paneer, which got rave reviews from my other half. It was ordered medium spicy (so, obviously, I didn't have a single bite, ha), which is standard for us. Apparently their spicy scale is a lot higher than others in the area, though, so we'll be downgrading to a "little" spicy rather than "medium" spicy next time! We also picked up an order of chana masala (chickpeas) which I erroneously thought was an appetizer, not a full entree. So we got a lot more than we bargained for :) It was also delicious! My only regret is for the first time ever ordering Indian/Nepalese, we didn't add on any naan. That would have been stellar with the chana masala (which comes with rice). Pretty decent Indian buffet! Came here at the suggestion of a dear friend and she and I had a lovely lunch together. The food is pretty much what one might expect at an Indian buffet: Chicken Tikka Masala, some korma, chana masala, etc. They even had some goat, which always sounds like a good idea, but is full of bones. Added bonus: they have a lot of chutneys and pickles and also have a huge carafe of spiced tea (chai, if you must). Service is friendly but pretty hands-off. They filled our drinks and brought us naan, but otherwise we were left alone, which was kind of nice. I recently got their lunch deal of 10.99 for a while Tikka Masala dish and they did not skimp at all. I got about 8 to 10 pieces of chicken, more than enough Naan and fresh rice. It was all still hot even 20min after pick up. Unfortunately it falls flat with the actual food.I have gotten the mango lassi twice and it just isn't quite what I've had at other places. Been getting Indian delivery from here aince 2012. It is my go to dor Indian. I have tried many items on the menu. I don't eat meat but that isn't an issue because there are so many options. My go to order- veggie samosas, garlic or kashmiri naan and shrimp biryani. If you order delivery from them directly you can get a 10% discount. The shrimp in the biryani are very big too! I've been to Kumari more than what I would like to admit. I am always a big fun of Indian food and appreciate the variety that a nice buffet offers. The establishment is rather quiet compared with other Indian places in the city, even during the busiest hours. Service is friendly and attentive. Once or twice they might stop collecting the plates after 1 or 2 rounds but once noticed they will help right away. Food is always the highlight. Traditional Indian flavor profile with slight twists to please the American palate a little more (sweeter and less spicy). Chicken Tikka Masala is the creamiest ive ever had. Love the goat dish as always. And my favorite is a shrimp dish cooked with mushroom and broccoli. Perfect balance between the spiciness, sweets and acidity. Just remember to drink enough water after the meal. read more

It's never a good idea to do your taxes on an empty stomach so I stopped here for a quick lunch. When I saw the buffet through the window I was excited. I've tried about a half dozen Indian restaurants in Baltimore and this is my new favorite. The chicken tikka and chicken tikka masala were tender and flavorful. Most surprising is how varied the spices are among the dishes. Many times restaurants will use leftover tandoori chicken for their tikka masala the next day, but this was fresh and delicious. The naan was also fresh - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Salads were fresh and delicious. I was really surprised at the variety of flavors found in each dish and was especially happy with the aloo gobi. Too bad I only had 15 minutes to spend in the restaurant. The Chana Masala was quite salty and kinda just a mush of things, rather than what I expect which is supposed to be a light dish that should compliment the main course. This place just opened, and I guess it is the 2nd branch of the one in Mt Vernon. I have never been to that one, so I can only comment on this one. This is the best Indian food I have had. I went for the lunch buffet the other day, and couldn't stop eating. All of the food was cooked perfectly, they had a good selection. The chef told me they change it up everyday. My brother and friend were raving about the tea and coffee too (I didn't have any). Fed Hill has been missing a great Indian place, and this one is in the reviving shopping center with the Shopper's.
