From the moment you walk under the welcoming sign inside you can tell this place is cared for. It is a beautifully maintained, smaller restaurant that maximizes its space perfectly. The dining area is incredibly clean, cozy, and bright, featuring crisp tablecloths and an awesome "Save the Himalayas" wall mural that adds a great touch of character to the room. The service here is incredibly fast and attentive. We barely had to wait at all before our table was filled with fresh, steaming dishes. The food is where this place truly shines. Everything we ordered was packed with vibrant, well-balanced spices. Appetizers: We started with a perfectly crispy fried pakora/fritter served with sweet and tangy dipping sauces which set a high bar for the rest of the meal. The Momos: You absolutely cannot leave without trying their momos. They are perfectly doughy, juicy, and paired with an addictive orange chutney. We couldn't get enough of them. For the main course, the traditional metal thali tray offered a spectacular variety of flavors. There aren't a lot of Nepalese restaurants in Maryland so happy there is one close to me. I haven't been here in so long so after church I stopped by to get some takeout. I am happy to see people dining in. I order the Mulligatawny (lentil)soup and vegetable momos before and enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is casual with some Nepalese decorations. The mulligatawny soup is perfect for a cold day. It's not too spicy but there is a kick at the back side. The momos were perfect as well. I really enjoy the sauce that it comes with it. Dropped by just to grab some tea time snacks - we got their veggie samosa and chicken momos. Boy - they did not disappoint! We took them home and had them with home made chai which was the perfect combination. The samosas were fat and juicy, but crispy on the outside. Not greasy at all. The momos were done really well. I recently went here for a weekend lunch with a friend and enjoyed the experience. We were seated immediately, our food came out in a timely manner, the prices were reasonable, the portion sizes were hearty, and my food was good. I got the lamb vindaloo lunch combo extra spicy and was not disappointed. There was a lot of lamb, good spice and flavor, plenty of rice, and delicious, butter naan. I did try my friend's dal, and that had spice but needed more flavor. The naan was so good we actually got another order for our meal. Himalayan House is a 20 minute walk or a short drive away from Fort McHenry, and I would recommend for lunch or dinner if you are in the area! read more

We were visiting our friends in Maryland for the weekend and had a sudden rush for Momo tasting. Our local friends were quick to suggest this place for the best Momos in town. It was a good 30 minute drive, so we placed our order ahead of time over phone and started off. The place wasn't too busy so finding a street side parking wasn't a big a deal. The place looked modest from outside and as we entered, we were welcomed by a gentleman(probably the owner) who was at the counter. The place has a rustic feel to it with some retro pics hung on the wall along with money plant growing around. Guess he is somebody who takes social distancing very seriously. He was almost a 50 feet away from us and was barricaded by a wall of table and our pickup bag was ready on it for take off. The order was paid for, so no waiting or stalling for the payments. We requested a chopped onion and before we knew it, we were on our way back home. The food was amazingly well made. We ordered veg momos (came with authentic ginger chutney/sauce), dhal makkani, paneer tikka masala, mango lassi and aloo paratha. The spice was on the mark and the food was on the money. The only sour point was finding the mango lassi being spilt a bit on the cover, but I give the benefit of doubt to our mishandling of the bag as everything else was packed perfectly to the T. Ok, so this place is easy to miss if your driving. Its kind of a hole in the wall but those types of places have some of the best food and this is no exception. The Himalayan feast is top notch. This is the best Indian food I have found in the city. I love this place but they have a serious issue with time estimation. It is not uncommon for food to take 2-3x as long as the estimate. Ordered food this weekend and it didn't arrive for over 2 hours. Food arrived hot and tasty as ever, but wish they had told us it would take this long so we could have served snacks or something. We ordered from GrubHub but our delivery guy said to order directly from them next time. We had Shahi Paneer, Lamb Saag and Vegetable Tikka Masala. Our granddaughter added a Mango Lassi for her dessert. Everything was great. The sauces were so flavorful - not overly spicy. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Great place. On the phone, she misrepresented the cost of the naan by a few dollars and only offered to replace the naan with a price she misrepresented. I only found out after the call that the price of the naan was more expensive. Instead, I paid more for a new dumpling entree and paid the difference. Nepalese-Indian and I'm not enough of an expert to tell you the difference, but it's all delightful and masterfully prepared. Bonus points for the extensive menu which, for this amateur gourmand, is impressive given the scope and variety of the offerings. The staff is uniformly polite and quite helpful. What a find! Was honestly just walking by, and it smelled TOO good not to pop in. Ordered the appetizer sampler to start which included pakora and samosa with tamarin and mint sauces - SO good! Didn't even know what a pakora was prior to this, but would highly recommend. Very crispy, lightly flavored fried patties. Would not recommend if you have an important meeting after... it's onion heavy. For entrees, we got the Alu (potato) Sandheko and Chicken Chilli - both unique in their flavors. Tbh still don't know what Sandheko is, but it was really good. I'd say probably my favorite dish. Then finally got myself a mango lassi - of course! Forewarning, it is very filling! Okay, so I must first talk about the employees and service. Top top top top notch and everyone there gets 5 stars for being such nice people. Unfortunately being such nice people doesn't make up for their food and makes this review even harder to write. The boss lady, two monkeys and I were all in the historical Locust Point neighborhood when hunger set in. It a bit past 1pm and we were all starvin' and planning on making another trip out to Chaps Pit Beef to take advantage of being in a nearby neighborhood. When we asked the person whom we were visiting about Himalayan House (prompted by driving by and seeing the quaint little store), we were told, "It's the BEST Indian food I've ever had." Okay, with such a statement the whole plan to visit Chaps willfully and magically vanished. Our pit beef craving was replaced by the thought of warm delicious Indian food goodness. We said goodbye to our buddy, parked the car and headed into Himalayan House to check out this place for ourselves. Before stepping inside, a small sign hung on the door that read, "Only two children allowed inside at once.." How odd...they limit the number of kids that can be inside? Interesting... I thought that this sign would mean that kids were not allowed and that the employees would look down upon us "breeders" for bringing our monkeys to their establishment. That my friends was NOT the case. All the employees smiled as we walked in and even greeted our two boys like little VIPs. They waved, said hello and even switched into an Indian accented baby talk to entertain our boys. The front of Himalayan House and most of the walls serve as the neighborhood convenience store selling everything from cigarettes, ketchup to paper plates. In the middle of the store two unassuming small tables are set up where people dining in can sit. We made our way to one of the free tables and sat down to decide on what we would order for lunch. For a dining establishment that's also a convenience store, the menu was quite impressive. We decided on a some Chicken Tikka Masala and an order of Garlic Naan and Paratha stuffed with onions. As soon as we ordered, the kitchen that was behind us blazed to life as the chef began preparing our food. The man was a machine, quickly working away and getting all the ingredients ready to become our lunch. We waited with much anticipation as we could see the chef cook everything fresh and from scratch. In the meantime, our boys began exploring the various shelves within the Himalayan House finally making me understand why they had a "2 child only" policy for their small store. It seemed a constant struggle with the monkeys to keep the merchandise on the shelves and to prevent our boys from turning the place upside down. We in NO way blame Himalayan House, as the boys were a bit wild due to hunger and finally being free after being strapped their car seats for almost an hour. Right when the boys were about to reach the peak of their mischievousness, the food arrived and their attention was caught by a tall steaming platter of Basmati rice. Soon our monkeys were chanting "Wice! Wice! Wice!" while they pointed to the plate full of carb filled goodness. As the rice was set down on the table, both boys dove in with their spoons jamming still hot rice into their little mouths...and then recoiling from the heat. Next, the plate of Chicken Tikka Masala was set down along with the freshly made orders of Garlic Naan and Onion stuffed Paratha. The Naan and Paratha smelled amazing and all sorts of wonderful smells filled the air as we began serving the boys and ourselves. The Chicken Tikka Masala looked amazing and had a generous helping of that beautiful orange yogurt sauce that drown the pieces of chicken. Ripping off some of the Garlic Naan I dipped it into the Chicken Tikka sauce and enjoyed the bold garlic flavor of the bread, but wasn't "wowed" by the spices and flavor of the sauce. Next I tasted the chicken itself and although the breast meat was cooked to perfection (and not dry), again I as left wanting that slap-in-the-face of flavors I get when eating Indian food. The flavor of our dish seemed "safe" almost as if they were too scared to cook the Chicken Tikka Masala with too many spices. The rice was delicious and our boys actually enjoyed eating generous portions covered with the Chicken Tikka sauce. Although a bit disappointed, we continued to eat our meal and did not finish our entire order. We doggie bagged the leftovers, packed up our stuff and apologized to the staff for leaving such a HUGE mess of rice on the floor (courtesy of our monkeys learning to use spoons). Paying the bill I asked the wife what she thought, who agree that the food was simply "meh". I've ordered 3 times from this place and it is for sure the BEST INDIAN for DELIVERY. The best part about this place is that they will deliver extremely far out. Despite being located deep in the fed hill, they deliver as far as MT. VERNON, Patterson Park etc. I haven't tried ordering from further away but you might as well give it a try. Be sure to CALL to order though. If you try to order online, it might say you're out of range, but if you call they might be able to deliver to you. I've played it pretty safe on my three orders. Here's what I've ordered and my recs.... - Chicken Korma: delicious, one of the best I've had. It's extremely filling and will serve as 2 to 2.5 meals. - Chicken Vindaloo: I ordered it spicy.....and it was actually spicy but also exceptionally rich and offered a complex mix of flavors rather just burn your mouth off spicy/bitter (you know what i'm talking about). What made the above two dishes so good was the sauce, they do it extremely well. - Naan and Roti: delicious, very fresh, warm. Get these on the side for sure. I would - Samosa: also quite good. The batter was fried very well. Filling was ok, not bad. - Mixed grill: comes with tandoori chicken, 1 piece of tandoori shrimp, and tandoori kabab. This was a bit disappointing. I wouldn't say it was dry, but it wasn't juicy either. The flavors were pretty good, but it needed something a curry or something to go along. I would not order this again and will stick with the curries. OVERALL: if you're feeling lazy and want to order indian food. THIS is where you want to order from. I had purchased a voucher on Dealhere.com ($12.50 for $25) to try this place. The voucher could only be used for dining in, even though it looks like this restaurant mostly does carryout orders. This place is definitely kind of a hole-in-the-wall. When the two of us got there for lunch, we saw that the right wall was kind of crammed with 2-tops, and two of those tables were occupied by the only other people in the restaurant. For whatever reason, they wanted to squeeze us in the table between the two already occupied tables, where it was impossible to sit in the chairs because there was about two inches between the seat back and the edge of the table. We requested a different table somewhere else in the rest of the empty restaurant. I've had better service at other Nepalese and Indian restaurants. The service here was polite, but a little inattentive (my water was never refilled), and the glasses seemed kind of grimy. Gnats were visiting our table. There doesn't seem to be any real advantage to dining in over just doing carryout, since the ambiance/service are kind of lacking, and there are no complimentary pappadams/tamarind sauce/chutney that you might find in other restaurants. There's no music playing in this restaurant, which makes you realize that you never even notice music until it's weirdly quiet. From the reviews here, I think that they only recently started using metal cutlery and plates, rather than serve their dine-in fare in carryout containers. It looks like they sell cigarettes and have some sort of convenience store setup in the back of the restaurant, so you see a lot of people wandering in. The dine-in menu is the same as the takeout menu. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and lamb korma. Both were good and the portion sizes were large, but they add a lot of red dye to their chicken tikka masala. I realize that's not unusual, but I've never found it necessary? We both stopped eating at one point because we were completely out of water, and then just resigned to box everything up as leftovers. We received our check, and I handed over the DealHere voucher that I had purchased in addition to a credit card for the rest of the bill. This is when things got confusing. Our bill was $33.90 for the chicken tikka masala ($14.99) and lamb korma ($16.99). He charged the credit card $21.40, so I could see right away that maybe he misunderstood the voucher. I tried to explain to him that I had pre-paid $12.50, but the voucher's value was $25, so the amount that should've been charged to the credit card was $8.90. There was a lot of back-and-forth trying to explain this math. He then started to say that he had never heard of "Deal Here," and he insisted that the restaurant has NEVER participated in any kind of discount program. However, I know that if you check in on Yelp, there is a 12% discount offered, and other Yelp reviews have noted using restaurant.com or Groupon vouchers. You can even Google "Groupon Himalayan House" right now and find a current deal online. This was unbelievably frustrating. I've used other deals purchased from this site before (formerly "Bmore Bargains"), and I even called up another business that has a current voucher advertised on DealHere's website to confirm that they weren't operating a scam. I wouldn't come here again. There are a lot of other options for this type of cuisine in Baltimore, and this place was not worth the headache. I think if you do support this business, stick to carryout and don't bother using the current Groupon or DealHere voucher. read more

I Love the influence of Nepal when it comes to Indian food. We ordered the Chicken curry and Lamb Vindaloo, of course some fresh Naan bread. Comes with ample basmati rice. Four stars because this place has AMAZING dishes for great prices but service is inconsistent. Website always says food will be ready in about 30 minutes but it usually takes about an hour. I once had to wait an hour after my pickup time in the restaurant for my order. We always get the bhindi masala and alu chilly and both always have consistent amazing tastes. They give lots of rice so I'm always full after Another plus is that they have their own website and don't use toast tab or another third party. This makes ordering food so much faster and simpler. This place makes damn good food and serves a lot of it. When you order spicy, they make it quite hot, and I'm Indian and enjoy spice, so beware. I almost wanted to give this place 3 stars because they use wayyyyyy too much oil. If I were to order again, I'd likely ask them to use less. If they are consistently making it with that amount of oil, I'd probably have to update the review to three stars. I do appreciate that they are making the food as freshly as they can (though Indian food can rarely be made to order from scratch, as it would take too long) as I could see them preparing ours when we came to pick it up.
