The server recognized me from weeks ago and brought out peppers for me to spice up the buffet dishes (decided to try that today instead of a la carte) and it genuinely made my day. The buffet was fine, with some dishes better than others, but again the service impressed me--fresh rice and samosas swapped out when I came in. My only complaint is that I wish the chai had actually been hot in the thermos but I came in at the end of the day so can't say I'm surprised. I ordered from here when I was in Baltimore. It wasn't the usual like I've had in NYC or Philly but it was good enough. The spices were a bit different. The rice was different as well, I couldn't quite explain the rice. The samosas I've had was the best, for that, I must give them thumbs up. Everything I've eaten her is delicious and you can ask for mild or hot spice and it always comes out perfect. This restaurant should rate as one of the best in Baltimore. I had been to DarBar prepandemic for a lunch buffet which wasn't memorable so I hadn't returned. I wouldn't eat in, the ambiance is a bit dingy. First time ever trying Indian food for myself, and I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and a close friend joined me here for dinner, and we ordered family style as suggested by my friend. Waitress was great and attentive as we tried describing a dish we had previously had and wanted to get but couldn't find on the menu. She suggested the potatoes and cauliflower with curry styled sauce, which was similar to the dish my husband wanted. We didn't want to have food like butter chicken that we all had tried before, so we branched out some in our pickings but still kept the spice level mild to medium in most dishes. The best part of the meal was the garlic Naan bread that was insanely good. The entrees were great as well, but I have no idea what we ordered. The pictures provided will have to be the most info I can give. We enjoyed the complimentary wine with dinner, too! There's a decent amount of street parking right in front of the restaurant. As someone that eats Indian food regularly and considers it one of my staple cuisines, this is THE spot for Indian food in Baltimore. I've tried almost every spot in the city, including the Himalayan/nepalese/Indian fusion spots, and this is the best. They also have incredibly attentive service. Plus, if you go for dinner, you get a FREE glass of wine with your meal!! When you go, I highly recommend the chicken 65. If you have more than 3 people in your group, you should order 2 servings of it. It's my favorite and the most underrated dish. read more

Darbar is just around the corner from me and is one of my go-tos for takeout/Indian food. The food is always good and is very reasonably priced. I tend to gravitate toward the paneer tikka masala with garlic naan and it always such a comforting food. This past week I went with a friend to try their weekend buffet special. The cost per person is $18.50 which is reasonable, but I was kind of let down by the buffet. I did enjoy the fact that I was able to try a ton of different items that I am usually not adventurous to try, but overall the food was just alright. I truly judge places on their butter chicken, and I have to say the buffet version that they had was subpar. Additionally, most of the food was barely lukewarm (likely due to not having covers and instead having an open salad bar type of deal) which is a big deal for me because of safety (food should be held over 140F) and that in general I usually like my food to not be piping hot and this still was too cold for me. Overall, I think as a sit down restaurant that Darbar is great, but the buffet is definitely not worth it. read more

Lunch with a friend today at Darbar near Fells Point, which we really enjoyed. The atmosphere was comfortable, staff was friendly and experienced. We ordered vegetarian, with many options. Generous servings. On a weekday, buffet not available, nor was there a special lunch menu. We ate our fill, then took leftovers home. We enjoyed mango ice cream- glad we saved room for it. Plenty of room to space out and social distance. The staff all wear masks as well. If you order take away, you can call and just pick up. If you want delivery you need to use a delivery app. Support local businesses... call and order all pickup orders so they don't lose money on fees. They have a winter special right now; buy one naan get one naan free! The Indian dishes are all amazing; Tikka masala - our groups' overall favorite. Mild for those with sensitive tongues, medium for those who like it spicier. Hot doesn't make sense... get another dish. Rohan Josh - rich and hearty. Medium or hot if you like a kick. Vindaloo - not actually as amazing unless you get it medium or hot... avoid mild. Saag - mild or medium spice level works... fantastic flavor. The tandoori grill dishes are all tasty... get mild or medium unless you want real heat! The dal mahkani is better than the other dal but it's all great. The Chana masala is also great. The pappadum and samosa are the best sides, but everything is well prepared. You can't go wrong with any choice... but be prepared for the spice! Go mild or mild-medium if you aren't sure. read more

I last reviewed this place a few years ago and with new ownership, we felt it was lacking. A friend was in town so we decided to give it a whirl, and I'm so happy we did! We dined midweek before 7p. Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala were great with garlic Naan. The dishes were to our spice level request, and flavorful. Each dish had plentiful chicken and the server brought additional rice for our take home boxes- a lovely touch. They are byob I believe but offered a glass of wine upon being seated. We didn't partake. Service was excellent with constant checkins for water refills. I randomly popped into Darbar on a Saturday evening, suddenly having an urge for Indian food as I passed by. I quickly found street parking and dashed over. Upon entry, I wasn't sure where to go to place my order, but a restaurant employee seemed to sense my presence, came over, and directed me to the register area where I was able to peruse the menu. I decided on lamb saag, veggie samosas, and mango lassi. I placed the order to go and sat near the register as I waited for the food to be ready. While I was sitting there, the same employee offered me water, which I accepted and sipped as I sat. The wait wasn't long, the food took about 10 mins and I headed out. The mango lassi and samosas were absolutely delicious, I crushed those right away. The saag was well prepared, I'd asked for it to be super spicy and it definitely was, without the heat of the spice detracting from the taste of the other seasonings. The only drawback was the pieces of lamb were fairly large (and I'm used to them being much smaller) and some weren't as tender as I'd have liked. Darbar isn't the most conveniently located Indian restaurant to where I live, but next time I'm in the Fells/Canton area and want Indian food, I will certainly head there! read more

The chicken Tikka Masala was very, very sweet, which is weird to me, it was not reflective of the types of Indian chicken tikka masala in privy to at all. There was also hardly any Chicken, the chunks were extremely small and I had a total of 8. The majority of my entree was sauce, a very sweet sauce at that. Called ahead of time to ask about vegan options. They gave a long list from their vegetarian specialties, and offered that some of the dishes that commonly were made with cream (ie saag, dal makhni) could be made with coconut cream instead. They were very flexible with substitutions as well. For ex: saag chole isn't on their menu but they told me to just order the chana masala and in the notes on Uber eats to indicate that I wanted the spinach sauce rather than the tomato sauce, and that it should be made vegan using coconut cream. I just love accommodating places with lots of options. Plus- everything was wonderfully tasty. I loved the abundant saag gravy, and the creaminess of the dal. Will def go for spicier next time since the medium spice level didn't do much for me. Pretty hefty amount of food for the price, and very filling. Darbar is absolutely delicious! I've been once pre-pandemic for their lunch buffet (delicious) but this time I ordered carryout. I ordered Vegetable Samosa $4.95, Chicken Tikka Masala w/rice $16.50, Palak Paneer w/rice $15.50, Garlic Naan $3.25, and Crab Malabar w/rice $18.95. The prices are a bit expensive considering their outdated decor but we loved all of our food. The veggie samosa was pretty straightforward. I loved it with the darker brown sauce (sweet) but not as much with the green sauce (reminded me of celery juice). The chicken tikka masala (red meal) so amazing as was the palak paneer (spinach meal). Yum! The crab malabar was good. It had a cool, coconut taste which was different from the spicy/savory taste of the other meals we ordered. The garlic naan was sooooo tasty. Overall, I truly enjoyed everything but wish it was a tiny bit cheaper (maybe $2-$3 cheaper for each meal). Oh the staff was super friendly as well.
