Something changed in the last 6 months. This is my second recent order and again the sauce is thinner like watery on both the dishes I normally get. Portions are smaller and much less chicken, more sauce. Overall this place has lost its touch. read more

A smaller restaurant with great food, comfortable ambiance and first rate service Tandav is nestled on a street corner off Broad St. Street parking is the only parking here so you might need to walk a little. Ambiance is nice- set in tables if two and four with seating for ~12 parties. The restaurant was very clean and had a good feel to it. It's a more romantic place, cozy but not setup to feel overcrowded. A great spot for a date Service is very friendly, with recommendations if asked and staff who care about your experience. A nice change from chains and carry out restaurants. Food is on point. We had chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, bhindi masala and garlic naan. Very good seasoning overall and the tikka masala had the right amount cream. Flavors were well developed and savory. Quantities of protein were good yet still plenty of sauce for naan dipping. Spice levels were a little mild compared to many Indian restaurants I have tried so I would recommend ordering one spice level up. The restaurant offers alcoholic drinks and has a decent wine selection. Prices are very competitive. We were very happy with our meal and overall experience. Worst chicken tika masala that I ever had from here. It used to be thick and spicy, but tonight the sauce tasted like Campbell's Tomato Soup! Yuck. Food was ice cold. I used to order on a pretty frequent basis because the food is so delicious! The chicken makhani is amazing and probably my favorite thing on the menu. I would even say it's my favorite in Baltimore! It is super rich and subtly sweet. I also love their saag-- I've tried both the paneer saag and the chicken saag and both are delicious. The only thing I would change in their dishes is the texture of the chicken; I wish the meat were a little tender as it does tend to be on the dry side most of the times I stop by. When I've dined in, service is pretty quick. Lighting inside is a little dim but I like it. I can't wait to try more things! read more

Tandav is a local corner restaurant. I loved the atmosphere and service. My friend and I were the only one in the restaurant, so the waiter was really attentive. We walked to Tandav to order a couple lunch boxes and give this place a try. The young man behind the counter (Yash) was very friendly and told us his and his family's story, explained the lunch special, and made us feel very welcome. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, saag paneer, and chicken curry, along with a side of samosas and a mango lassi (to enjoy on the walk home). The lassi was one of the best I've ever tasted. Really stellar. We ordered all the dishes medium on the spicy scale, and they were perfect. The samosas were perfectly crispy on the outside and well-seasoned on the inside. The chutneys were both very tasty too - the brown sweet chutney and the green spicy chutney. The green chutney was a bit runny for my liking, but I mixed them together so it was fine. The main dishes were all finger-licking good. The gravy of the chicken curry was my favorite, and the malai kofta was my favorite dish overall. I will be ordering those again and will try several other menu items. At $11 per lunch box, it's a great deal. Each one can easily last two meals as the food is heavy. Very glad to have found this restaurant! read more

Tandav isn't the best Indian food of my life, but for consistency and the fact that they're always there for me in my hour of need, they get 5 stars. I miss their lunch buffet dearly (boo COVID!!), it has a special place in my heart because my pals and I would often come for lunch buffet--a cozy neighborhood spot. During COVID, they adopted a lovely lunch box special, which includes 2 entrees, rice, and naan for around $11. It's not enough for multiple meals like ordering an entree a la carte, but it really does the trick for a nice, filling lunch for a very decent price (especially for Indian food). I appreciated the chicken tikka masala (order spicy for sure!) and aloo gobi combination. The prospect of deciding and mixing and matching is a pretty fun activity. I gotta say I miss the goat curry from the lunch buffet, so maybe I'd try that next time. If for some reason you're like me, incredibly specific, and deciding between aloo saag and aloo methi, there's a very low methi ratio, so I'd opt for the saag. read more

Tandav is my absolute go to Indian restaurant. Even after I moved out of the neighborhood I've frequented this establishment. The staff are always incredibly kind; the service is consistent and amazing. The flavor in their dishes is indescribable!! My favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala (medium). I always get it with the intention of stretching it across two meals (as it is more than possible to get two servings out of the order) but often end up not having left overs. Tandav is absolutely fantastic. The food is incredible and flavorful, the staff are the nicest people around! Order anything from here and you will not be disappointed. I usually order the basic Chicken Tikka Masala, it is so good and flavorful. The chicken Korma is also really good. The naan is great, must order. The Keppa Naan (I think that's the name) has minced lamb baked in and we love to get it when we are feeling extra haha. One time I accidentally got the Chicken Tikka Tandori, and it was actually really good, I wish I had a salad or just regular naan to put it on because it was literally huge chunks of really juicy and flavorful chicken, and rice of course. The lemon to squeeze on top was perfect, but def wanted more veggies. I would order again if I had some lettuce on hand. They also give you incredibly large portions, my husband and I can split one dish comfortably, or get two dishes with intentions on having leftovers the next day. Look no further for your new fav local Indian restaurant!! We dropped by for the lunch special the other day (~$12ish with tax) and were greeted with such a warm welcome from the owner. Each lunch box comes with rice, naan, and 2 choices of meat or veggie dishes. You can mix and match--and BAM--never ending lunch combos. The food is good, the proprietors are friendly, it is a great place to have in the area. We've tried probably a couple of dozen dishes from here and liked all but one of them. The Paneer Chili was a weird, pseudo-Chinese dish that was totally unlike everything else they serve and really not good at all. It was an outlier though and since everything else I've had here is tasty I'll just forget I ever had it. There's also an excellent lunch combo special if you call and order from them directly. Tucked away in Butchers hill, Tandav is a fantastic example of delicious indian cooking! Aside from the wonderful food, the staff here deserves a major highlight. They clearly love sharing their heritage and food with the Baltimore community. All the dishes here are a hit but I personally love the Chicken Makathni. Imagine a slightly sweeter tikka masala with some brighter spices. You can tell that they use real whole spices in their food because sometimes YOU BITE INTO IT. So watch out for the occasional star anise. Their prices are every so slightly higher than some of the competition (darbar, sakoon) but the portion sizes are well worth it. All in all, glad to be able to support and promote this amazing place! read more

The chicken tikka masala was extremely bland. In addition, the chicken was dry and overcooked. The biryani was also bland (despite the fact that requested medium heat). Very solid Indian food for Baltimore. We ordered the assorted appetizers, chicken korma, and the chicken mango curry. The apps were great. I particularly enjoyed the pakoras but the flat fried potato pakora was under seasoned in my opinion. As for the mains, we ordered both dishes mild, since some Indian places tend to knock your socks off. Personally, I would have preferred medium to hot, but my wife and I were sharing dishes so mild was appropriate. Overall the korma was fantastic and the mango curry was just a step or two under it but still pretty good. Side note: there were bay leaves and green cardamom pods in the dishes which I personally count as a huge plus. They're clearly putting time and effort into these dishes. Just keep and eye out for them cause biting into a cardamom pod isn't the most appealing thing. read more

I'll start out by saying to take my review with a grain of salt considering all of the other reviews giving 5 stars. My true rating for the food I received would be a 3.5 We ordered Chaat Papri, Garlic Kulcha, Malai Kofta, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Mahkani. Pros: - Chaat Papri was delightful. The fried crackers were similar to Chinese fried noodles, and the tamarind chutney was flavorful and tangy. - Both chicken entrees came with a lot of protein. - The dumplings in the Malai Kofta had a complex and tasty flavor. Cons: - The restaurant mixed up the labeled lids for the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Mahkani. I felt like the flavor of my butter chicken was really off (way too tomato-y) and by the time I realized the mistake (comparing the color/taste to my partner's dish) he had already put a significant dent in the entree. I was pretty disappointed at this mistake. - The flavors in the curry sauce of all the entrees was bland to my taste. Really just mediocre, not complex, spicy, or bright. The spice level might be something you need to specifically request, but that doesn't account for the absence of other seasoning. - The Garlic Kulcha was rubbery and the portion was disappointing. Perhaps that's down to the difference in thickness/substantiality of Kulcha vs Naan, but I guess I had hoped for a slightly larger portion due to how thin it was (the portion was about the size of a large tortilla). I don't plan to order from here again, but my experience seems to be the outlier from other reviews this far. read more

The food here is amazing! Their lunch buffet pre-COVID was one of the best deals around. Now they offer a takeout lunch box which is also an awesome deal.
