Nepal House is very decent Indian food. We did pick up and everything was packed very well and cleanly. I can't speak to the ambiance but the state of the takeout was good. It's not the best Indian I've ever had but it'll do in a pinch. I was crazing papadam and they do that very well. I like the tamarind and mint sauce and the yogurt sauce is standard but yummy. The butter chicken is flavorful and the lamp as well. The naan was okay and the biryani is quite bland. The worst thing for me is how dry the chicken is. Even though all the chicken was covered in sauce, they were somehow very dry. I'm glad I tried Nepal Place but I would try a different place before returning here. read more

Ordered takeout from here earlier this week and I have to say, this is probably my favorite Indian place in Mount Vernon. There's a few options to choose from and after trying each one, I think Nepal House has the best prices for the best quality and flavor. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and lamb vindaloo. Each came with its own serving of rice and included generous chunks of meat. They didn't just fill up the container with sauce and call it a day, the serving size definitely reflected the price unlike some other places. The lamb vindaloo was full of flavor and spice with soft squares of potatoes. The butter chicken was creamy and comforting with the right spice level. Everything was ready on time and packed with care. I'd love to return to dine in for their lunch buffet since it seems like a great deal. read more

Went to Nepal House for the first time this past Saturday and I really enjoyed the vibe and ambiance while eating there. Me and my lovely date ordered Lamb and Chicken Vindaloo, along with the delicious naan, and I have nothing but good things to say. I had been craving Indian food for weeks and decided on a rainy Friday evening around 11 that I needed some butter chicken. I searched for the closets restaurant that was also opened on Yelp because that's a great feature, and found Nepal House. They have a banner on their site advertising their new extended hours of 11am til 1am. I was a little skeptical but figured it's hard to get Indian food wrong . . . They had a combo which came with your choice of specialty chicken, veggie samosa and naan. I opted for the butter chicken spicy level and garlic naan for an indulgent late-night meal before going home. That's the kind of comfort I didn't know I actually needed all week. I tried to order online but was having some trouble so called in for pickup. To their surprise, I was already outside, so when I was informed to arrive soon, I replied I was already outside. I went in after the 15 minutes my food was promised in and had to wait for a bit. I tried to make small talk with the young lady at the register but she seemed a little flustered for some reason. There was a couple seated in the main dining area but the bar was closed off. Ideally, I'd sit at the bar when I'm dining alone so I asked how busy the bar usually is and was informed it is usually packed. I didn't believe that at all because there were no signs of being used anytime in the near past at all. But ok. I continued to look around and noted the dated decor that was still rich in culture. My food was done and I paid. I've notice for some reason restaurants just hand you an amount on a machine and ask for you to pay. I asked for my receipt to ensure I wasn't being overcharged for anything and again she seemed flustered. She gave me the POS and said something, so I asked again but this time I asked to see what I was charged for. She then printed me a receipt and I waited to pay. Don't know what that was about but ok. Grabbed my food and walked fast to my car. I noticed a lot of people on that street either standing around or going in and out of businesses. I locked my door and proceeded to open my brown paper bagged late night dinner. First, I tried the veggie samosa which was steaming hot with very subtle flavors. I remembered asking if it came with sauce and was informed it did, so grabbed it out of the bag and dipped. It gave the samosa some more flavor but after seeing the dull green pea, I put it down and grabbed a piece of naan. It also lacked in flavor, and I couldn't taste any garlic. I opened my container with butter chicken and immediately dipped the naan in, like any good person would do. So hot, flavorful, creamy, seasoned, everything I needed at that moment. I would have jumped for joy but just grabbed the fork and went for a piece of chicken which was tender and I couldn't tell if it was a breast or thigh. So that meant if it was a breast, it wasn't dry but if it was a thigh, it wasn't juicy either. I was ok with the in between for the night. I didn't want to eat the rice but decided to indulge and scooped some onto my fork and then grabbed a piece of sauced chicken and quickly scarfed it down. I drove home and passed out in my parking space . . . . don't judge, mind your business. If you haven't passed out in your car after a good meal then are you really living? No, you're not. I'd go back for a late night meal if I'm in the area or if they are on my way back home again. read more

She goes here often with her friends and they rated it 5/5 stars. And I totally agree!!! The chai was delicious the chicken got the perfect umphhhh and the bread naan and everything about Nepal house was amazing. The Tikka Masala slapped so hard I ate so much to the point I couldn't stand. I was groaning and my girlfriend made fun of me cause I was slumped over with so much food in my stomach. This is one of my favorite spots! Service is always prompt, the food is fresh and full of earthy, fresh, developed flavors. I love their remodel with a big window and the interior is perfect for both causal hangs but also celebratory nights like birthdays, anniversaries, parties, etc. The bar seating is cute too. Menu is expansive and I love coming here with my friends that do and do not eat meat! They all love, love, love the food! Tip: order to share so everyone can taste a bunch of the menu! Easily my favorite spot for Indian/Nepalesian food in the neighborhood and has been since 2014 when I first moved to Baltimore. Darn ! I wanted to like Nepal house . We tried it many years ago and were unimpressed. Our go to across the street, Kumari was closed today so we gave Nepal House another try. The food overall was watery and not very flavorful.. The green chutney lacked the fresh punch of herbs , hint of heat and bright color that I'm used to seeing. I think maybe they were from a jar? The vegetable curry looked and tasted limp and lifeless, most likely frozen mix veg from a bag. My favorite thing was the fresh cucumbers. Not the worst food but definitely not the best . Having both the craving for it and lacking the urge to cook this afternoon, I placed an online order for carry out at Nepal House (10% off website and phone orders for carry out!). The restaurant itself is located on Charles street and generally, it's easy to find street parking even on the same block. It boasts a spacious interior with lots of seating so you can very likely find a spot for you and a group to come over as well. I heard about this restaurant from a friend in my run club who swore it had the best Nepali food in Charm City. Lamb Roganjosh (medium spice) - 5/5, the lamb just absolutely melts in your mouth, its very tender and well seasoned. The spicy sauce used is also delicious and pairs excellently with the white rice that comes alongside this Kashmiri Naan - 3/5, admittedly I am spoiled on this as I dream of this one brilliant Kashmiri naan I tried ages ago and have never encountered since. I did taste a little bit of the stuffed nuts and they used shredded coconut for the fruit this is stuffed with. I would have preferred a variance in the dried fruits used so that it was more flavorful since this mostly tasted like just slightly sweetened naan as opposed to a more fruitful and nutty sweet naan read more

Every time I come to Baltimore, my sister and I HAVE to make a pit stop at Nepal House. We come here so often that im sure the waiters recognize us by now. It's basically $16 per person to eat a full-on buffet with the most delicious selections of food. We love mixing the sugar/non sugar Masala chai teas together to create the perfect sweetness. The rice pudding is our favorite dessert and the Samosas are very yummy. I especially like the spinach paneer and the chicken tikka masala. The interior is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is cozy/chill. I highly recommend this restaurant, looking forward to coming back! read more

This spot has quality Indian food, but I have been disappointed in the quantity provided as of late, especially with the increase in pricing. GLOWS: - Tandoori chicken is quite delicious, some of my favorite. - They do offer a lunch buffet (I have not been yet) , but it seems like the better bang for your buck. A popular Indian buffet restaurant in the area. I was recommended by a local to come here from a Reddit forum. The parking situation in this area is a little tough but doable if you pay to park. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and was promptly greeted upon entering. The first thing that stuck out was that the interior was really hot. After 10 minutes we were sweating(~85F), the waitress said the AC was broken and there was nothing they could do. We then moved to another table by a large fan which was drastically better. The choices were a bit limited, the only protein is chicken. All the dishes are on the bland side and all the chicken was dry. However they have a good selection of sauces. The chai was excellent. The restaurant had a raised floor panel which my wife unfortunately tripped on. Told the staff but no action was taken. I had Nepal House bookmarked for a long time and was excited when I saw it was close to Penn Station. I visited for a late lunch after getting off the train. Nepal House is on a cute block of N. Charles with a quaint patio. I ordered the chicken momos, lamb bhuna, and paratha. I was automatically provided papadum with three different sauces. The papadum were crispy and spicy and the tamarind sauce is always my favorite. The momos took about 20 minutes to come out, and the rest of my food took another 15 or so, so don't come if you are hungry. Momos were delicious and I loved the sauce. I'd ordered paratha but was served (and charged for) alu paratha, which I don't care for so I didn't really eat it. The lamb bhuna was flavorful but inconsistent. Some pieces were really tender and some are super chewy. Not sure if the meat was old or the chef just over cooked it. The rice was good. I ate inside and there were a lot of flies. That combined with them not following city mandates and a server who kept reaching an unclothed arm over me to serve makes this place questionable and unhygienic. Stopped here on a 2nd hand recommendation from a friend of a friend. Judging from the outward appearance of the building, I thought it would be kinda sketchy. But upon walking in, was pleasantly surprised to see a spacious dining area. As for the food, I wasn't sure what Nepali food was all about-- I knew Nepal was close to India- but not exactly how close (stupid me). I figured that out real quick after looking at the menu and seeing traditional Pakistani and Indian dishes. I've been to a LOT of South Asian restaurants - given that I'm married to a an Asian and just moved from NJ (within proximity to little India in Edison). IMO this is the best South Asian food I've had in years- well, besides a quick trip to BHam (UK( last year! The goat vindaloo had lots of flavor, but meat was a little tough- needed more cooking time. The butter chicken --yum. And biriyani- just wow! Garlic nan- damn...just so good! The prices were surprisingly good, given the pricing at some of the other places I've been to. To get my fix, I'm going to have to drive up from Howard county on a frequent basis. I made a lunch reservation here for a party of 11 last weekend for my friend's birthday. We were seated pretty quickly since the restaurant didn't have any other customers inside. We ordered about 6 to 7 dishes to share among all of us. Although the food was good, the service was pretty slow. There were only 2 to 4 other customers during our time there so I expected the food to be prepared more quickly. We placed 5 orders of gulab jamun (2 in each order) for dessert, which took almost half an hour to serve. The only items that were served quickly were our mango lassi drinks. The atmosphere is very cozy and the food was delicious, but I'm knocking off 2 stars because of the slow service and expensiveness for compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. I want to give Nepal House another chance, but next time I will come here with only a few friends instead and see if service is faster. read more

Decided to come here for their lunch buffet, to give our kids the option to choose what they want. Prices are reasonable with kids prices and for adults at around $15/person. Parking is on the street given its location in downtown Baltimore. Staff was accomodating though it helped that we were seated in the front, next to the staff. Buffet Selection 4/5: From left to right, lentil soup, fresh make your own salad option (lettuce, onions, cucumbers, carrots with garnishes), vegetable samosas, then you move on to the hot entrees. They have vegetable biryani and white rice, as well as a noodle option for starch. Various vegetarian and meat options of 8-10 varieties were available Flavor 5/5: well-balanced delicate flavors, and more importantly not saturated in oil like other indian buffets we've tried both in Maryland and outside of Maryland. You don't get that oily residual sensation in your throat. Value: 5/5 as you have many quality choices and can make your own plates Docked one star as one member in the party had the runs the rest of the day - unsure if this was due to sensitivity due to an ingredient in one/some of the dishes. Everyone else seemed fine? Also, at this time, the ladies bathroom is OUT OF ORDER - don't know how long that's been the case since this is our first visit there. Men's bathroom isn't the cleanest so ladies beware. FINAL THOUGHT: Quality Nepalese food with good balance of the delicate flavors representative of this fare. BUFFET PRICE $15-16/adult is quite reasonable given post-COVID world. Buffet hours 11-230 (M-F, closed Tues) and 11-3 weekends. Would go again if in the area. Wow! I can't stop ordering from this place. I loooove Indian food, but sometimes it can be too aromatic, bordering potpourri-like. This Nepalese food marries Indian staples with more muted spice profiles, which is the perfect pairing. My goal is to try every vegetarian option, but my favorites include Saag Paneer and Dal Makhani. All the mains come with a full order of basmati rice and are packaged in resuseable containers. I've eaten every last dumpling, every last lentil, and every drip of sauce that comes with my order. That said, 3 out of 5 times my food delivery has been late, my last order on Saturday, 7/11, was 25 MINUTES LATE. I heard nothing from the restaurant, nor the driver during this time. I actually called the restaurant 2x and received very uninterested customer service. "Oh, he's on his way" after 10 minutes. "Oh, we're understaffed, blah blah blah" after 20 minutes...making me wonder if the delivery guy was NOT on his way the first time I called. No apologies, nothing. I was pretty appalled on top of hangry. I've decided I won't be placing any more orders for delivery. We ordered quite a great variety of dishes here - Shrimp Vindaloo: 7/10. The sauce is great but on par or a bit lower par to other restaurants I've been too. No wow factor here - Goat meat (curry): 6/10 the gravy is tasty but the goat meat is not cooked well enough. It's very chewy. It was actually the worst Goat curry I've had (so far) unfortunately... - Fish Korma: 5/10 the sauce misses the correct amount of spices. It's plain. I don't know what to compare it to. "Italian-Indian" curry or something...it's no way as good like the flavorful korma I've had many years ago. - Chilli shrimp: 7/10, this one is standardly good - Birianyi: 6/10, one person commented it's "the best" in Baltimore so I eagerly tried but sighed again....This person really needs to experience more... The great Birianyi usually has this fragrant bastami rice immersed in very flavorful sauce but the dish here might have missed the right amount of flavors. And the one here is no way close, unfortunately -Fried paneer: 6/10, decent but could be a lot better. I have had better one in New York where they fried the juicy paneer in light batter only and sprinkle w spice salt. Food takes a long time to come out. And the cost is quite higher than average. The employees here are polite but I wish food could have impressed me more. I will not come back. Thank you for the meal. read more

The kitchen staff makes sure to keep bringing out food to ensure freshness which I really appreciated. All the staff was nice and the place was clean . My girlfriend and I usually frequent Kumari across the street for both dine-in and takeout, but decided to try Nepal House for something different. It's hard not to make direct comparisons between the two because they're literally both Nepali restaurants right across the street from one another. They recently renovated the front of the store to be a large retractable window, so on pleasant summer evenings you can get a nice breeze. The food was good! My girlfriend thought that the chicken tikka was better here than Kumari. It is more expensive, though. Unfortunately, the service totally killed the experience. We waited a very long time for our food, for the bill to come, for our drinks to come. It was bad enough that we wouldn't come back. I knew they had a lunch buffet for about $16 per person, but my partner and I were in a hurry so we decided to try this place for a to-go order of saag paneer and chicken vindaloo. While we waited for them to bring our order out of the kitchen, we noticed how packed this place was. Old people, young people, people of all ethnicities, people in a hurry, people taking their time to read the newspaper, folks like us picking up food to go, etc. All of this got us excited for the food, and let me tell you, when we got home we were NOT disappointed. We visited Nepal House for dinner this past weekend when we were staying at a nearby hotel in Mount Vernon. We ordered ahead on their website and took our food as takeout. Our food wasn't quite ready on time, but we were later told that they had just run out of a sauce necessary for our dishes and had to make that (totally understandable, but I wish there was a way to update the the pickup time since we ended up waiting for about 20 minutes outside). We had the opportunity to eat here while visiting Baltimore over 4th of July weekend. The lighting was dimmed which continued to a cozy atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive, yet gave you appropriate space so that you could engage in conversation with your company. We ordered the goat meat cooked in nepali style sauces. I asked if it was spicy and I was told it wasn't. I'd have to disagree as my, and my partner's (who can normally handle spicy), mouths were on fire. However, the sauce was very flavorful and different than anything else i've had before, just wish it hadn't been spicy like I was told it was. My partner had the Goat Thakali Thali, upon recommendation and we were pleased with it. Not sure what all was really in it but it was great. It was a mix of many different things that harmonized together to make a great dish. Wish there had been a better description on the menu, or that our server had pointed out what each part of the dish was called/ had. I only gave it 4 stars because my meal was spicy when I was told it couldn't be, and because our server did not explain the contents of the Thakali Thali after having recommended it.
