The onion bhaji had lots of chickpea flour and a few onion slivers on the outside. The chicken saag had lots of chicken and mild green spinach sauce. The gobi aloo was nice but mild. I was picking up dinner for six people from Cafe Spice and it went smoothly. I called ahead to order and the young lady taking my order was very friendly and repeated it all correctly back to me. The large order was ready when I arrived to pick it up and I was greeted by the owner who presented me with two mango drinks on the house. Yum. She again repeated the order back to me and gave me a total of $134.50 which was not a lot considering I had ordered Saag Paneer, Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala, 4 orders of Naan, extra rice, and Raita. It was a lot of food which was shared amongst the six and very little was left over. Everything was absolutely delicious. This is my favorite restaurant around. Entering the restaurant, I first noted the pleasant and soft scent from the kitchen. The premises are clean and well-decorated. I was seated promptly on a slow Monday evening, and ordered the mutter paneer and the kheet. The staff were prompt and polite. When my meal arrived I was surprised by the sweeter and more subtle approach to the curry. I an accustomed to bolder tomato and onion based mutter paneer. The entree was by no means lacking flavor, but it was delicate, and was best savored. The kheer followed this example, with a complex profile of flavors that were still easy on the palate. We met my sister and her husband at Café Spice for dinner. We had requested a quiet table and were able to secure one close to the front window. We were given menus and water for all was brought to the table along with an extra carafe of water. Jeff, our server, answered all of our questions. It had been several years since we had eaten in this restaurant. We were quite shocked at the increase in prices across the board. We can appreciate that prices have gone up, but Café Spice is considerably higher than the other Indian restaurants in the area. We asked that all of dishes be prepared with mild seasonings. Unfortunately, the Began Baratha that my sister ordered was "burn your mouth hot" in seasonings. She had to send it back, and Jeff brought her Chicken Tikka Masala. I ordered the Lamb Mughlai, which had a mild kick to it, but I could still eat it. My husband enjoyed his Lamb Rogan Josh, and my brother-in-law liked his Lamb Saag. I got food from Cafe Spice with some friends last night. I had never had it before, but after hearing it was good we ordered a larger selection of items from their menu. We ordered through Grubhub, but the order arrived on time and was complete, so to the extend I was exposed to their service, it was good. Also, didn't go to the restaurant, so can't comment on ambiance either. What I can comment on is the food. And my comment is that is is delicious!!! We ordered chicken vindaloo (spicy and mild), channa sag, and channa masala. All four were packed with flavor. We also ordered veggie samosas, naan, and pakora. They were good and the sauces they came with were great. Overall, I would give the food 5/5 stars. The reason for my only 3 star review is the value was only 1 or 2 stars. Not counting delivery fees or tips, our order was about $180 and we had no leftovers. Not only were the entrees expensive ($25 each), they were also small. Maybe eating dine-in is a different story. And like I said, the favor was good. The problem is that it wasn't better than my local fav (Himalayan house) and it cost roughly 30% more money for 30% less food. read more

We had been wanting to try Cafe Spice for a long time and finally made it tonight. We had a great experience. We went with a crew of 9 including some rambunctious kiddos and the owner and staff were warm, welcoming, and didn't seem to mind the occasional shrieks, impressive mess, or even the broken glass. In fact, the owner was kind, patient and helpful the entire time. She made some great recommendations and helped serve the meal. Important note, this place is BYOB, and they don't serve any alcohol, so if you want some, bring it yourself. The food was very good from start to finish. The mango lassis were delicious and kept the kids happy while we waited for appetizers. We had the veggie samosas and pakoras. The somasas were really good, a step up from the usual with just the right mix of flavors inside and a perfectly crunchy shell. The pakoras were like little veggie crisp balls and were very good too. For main dishes we had the shrimp malabari, the lamb mughlai, shrimp tandori and chicken tikka masala and the kids had chicken tikka masala and veggie fried rice. And of course we all had lots of garlic naan. The garlic naan was really fabulous, not your typical flat naan it was puffy and light with fresh garlic sizzling on top. So delicious. The curries were all really good, distinct and savory. I was spooning the sauces directly into my mouth by the end. And the tandori shrimp came out sizzling and filled the whole table with that wonderful smell. It all came with more rice than we could possibly eat. Great dinner tonight at Cafe Spice! We'd just left Vally View and spotted this Indian restaurant on our way home and decided to give it a try. We were warmly welcomed as we entered and shown to a table, given water and tasty salty yummy cracker type bread with dipping sauces to enjoy as we reviewed the menu. I order the Chicken Tikka Masala (recommended by our waiter based on my preference for "hot" spice), my husband the Lamb Saag, and naan bread. Recently I was invited to dine here with a friend. Cafe Spice did not disappoint. When we first arrived I was a little leery. The location was in a strip mall of just a few businesses. But upon entering I was transported into an atmosphere that was very conducive to a leisurely, peaceful dinner. I was particularly impressed with the colorful umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and the low lighting and the quiet atmosphere. But I was a little surprised that there were few patrons. Though we were coming in on the early side of the evening. After being seated we were presented with a crispy bread, very thin and had some kind of seed throughout. With this came two sauces. Being gluten sensitive I did not try this. It must have been very good because my friend ate all that they served. I decided on the tikka masala with chicken while my friend settled for an eggplant dish, began baratha. One could order their dish mild, medium or spicy. I chose mild; she chose spicy. Our plates came with a nice size dish of rice served family style. We both enjoyed their chai tea for our beverage. The food was delicious. No complaints. I had enough to fill me there and some left over to enjoy the next day. The service was above par. We were well attended to by our server. Our water glasses were not allowed to go dry. And more tea was offered for our enjoyment. My friend picked up the tab. I would say a rough estimate before tip was between $55 and $60. We were not rushed to leave. This is my favorite restaurant in the Cockeysville/Timonium area by far! My friends and I always go for the lunch buffet, which is an amazing deal (usually ranges 10.99-13.99) and differs in food options day to day. The food is always great, with staple pieces such as naan, chicken tikka Marsala, and tandoori chicken always available. The curries, side dishes, soups, and desserts differ by day. I usually try nearly a little of everything when I go and it's always amazing. They also do a good job of labeling what is spicy and what's not if you are sensitive to spicier foods. I'm afraid Cafe Spice is slipping a bit. Not sure exactly . . . chicken a bit tough in the Chicken Tikka Masala, is one thing I can state for certain. But in general, recently the food has not been up to the extremely high level of tastiness that I recall from the past. Of course the service is still great and the owners are very friendly and nice people, the atmosphere cozy and welcoming. Possibly the taste suffers in my mind in comparison with other Indian eateries in the area. It may not be fair to compare The Mint Leaf at $20 for the lunch buffet with Cafe Spice at -- $14, I think? -- but $6 for noticeably better food is worth it to me. Chicken tikka would be $21.99 but with grub hub $24.99 - every.single.dish... this adds great expense, especially with all the other Grubhub charges! 1 piece of naan is $5.99! - portions are small! For $25 a plate I expect this to come in the large plastic containers. They do not. For the size of the container compared to competitors and only getting 8 cubes of chicken I expect it to be $10 less than what was charged!!! I ordered the same several main meals for sharing and at competitors it lasts me 2 days easily with a bit to spare. This will not last 2 full meals completely. Context - we are 2 people who ordered 3 main dishes and an app - costing $100 before fees and tip, and we are not heavy eating consumers. While the food itself is delicious, they have not been our "go to" choice and is our back up when we are not in the area for pick up of our typical restaurant, which is very unfortunate, as this is much closer, has a delivery option, and delicious. But I cannot justify the $30+ more for the same order, but less quantity, especially as Indian is our #1 takeout cuisine. read more

Came for lunch, sat down, grabbed a plate and in under 60 seconds had some excellent Indian food. Buffet is two tables with about 4 choices in each. They also had cabbage fry, salad and desserts. There were some fried and breaded vegetables. No samosas. One type of naan that could be used to soak up the sauces. The paneer cheese was squeaky good. The sauces were excellent. I was so happy to find an Indian buffet that was open again! Our first time here, and my friends first ever Indian experience. It's going to take me a little to get used to the higher prices for the lunch buffet ($18.99), but considering the amount of food and variety it's definitely worth it. The staff was very accommodating and picked up our empty plates promptly. I appreciated that they gave us a glass carafe of water for refills because I drink a lot of water in general, but more so when eating slightly spicy foods. Being Pakistani, I typically don't like Indian food (I find it too mild and the spices used not as fresh and pungent as I prefer), but this place actually mostly impressed me! This restaurant serves horrible Indian food. It is not flavorful and some items have foul taste. Their Kashmiri naan is so bad. It has no flavors. It was pretty much like regular naan, just severely burnt. Malabari chicken, spice level medium. No spices at all, no coconut milk taste could be detected. I don't recommend this place. Due to COVID protocols the server brings food to your table but as much as you'd like so it's not exactly buffet style.
