It had a sweeter taste than I would have preferred but it was still very good. The service was swift, and friendly. I've been back multiple times and would recommend. Stopped by to check this place out on a Saturday afternoon because I love Caribbean food. The menu definitely made my mouth water and I settled on jerk wings, Hawaiian glazed wings and the pineapple coconut salmon with a pineapple ginger juice. The wings are amazing because they have such a good charred taste. The Hawaiian glaze were actually way better than I thought and such a good contrast to the jerk wings. Chef Bobby D is a Caribbean restaurant that focuses on Jamaican dishes. I try to sample a few Jamaican standard dishes like Jerk Chicken, oxtails, and curry chicken. Here's my opinion. 1. Jerk Chicken: They actually smoked it. The chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful vs seasoning it and cheating by adding liquid smoke. I would have liked larger portions but, it as well worth it. 4 Stars 2. Oxtails, very juicy, very well seasoned and tender. I was sucking on the bones. 4 Stars. I would add another half Star if the gravy was thicker. 3. Curry chicken: outstanding 4.5 stars. Very well seasoned and the curry is not overwhelming. I needed somewhere to stop for lunch after work. I found this place and thought it would be nice because I love Jamaican Food and they had a nice patio. Too bad it was a rainy day. The prices are higher but the food is well worth it. The Rasta pasta was delicious we tried both the oxtail and the salmon. Both were a 10/10. The drinks are nonalcoholic but very tasty. The new Chef Bobby Ds in Towson has been Grand Opening/soft opening for about a month. We've heard wonderful reviews of the food, but to expect a wait. And we have to concur. The jerk is delicious, on the mild side for jerk, but still warm and tingly. The peas were fresh and crisp and everything on top of the coconut rice was delicious. The chef was in and out of the kitchen occasionally and he was very friendly. The other staff was pleasant, but very subdued. We'll definitely come again, but only when we have lots of time, or nothing planned for after. It was lovely sitting outside and chatting with friends from the neighborhood. read more

Stopped in yesterday to grab food to go w one of my friends. It's ample parking, very clean inside and decorated really cute! It started filling up with sitting patrons and orders to go around 6:30-7pm. Get there early bc they make your order fresh so it takes some time. Regardless of business being busy, the lady working the front was so friendly and had a nice vibe. She smiled and remained calm during pressure. I ordered the oxtails over Rasta Pasta-3.5/5 ($24) which was tasty (not greasy at all) the pasta was creamy and flavorful with a slight spicy kick. There was crunchy bell peppers added texture in which I enjoyed. The oxtail were big, soft and had yummy gravy. The bonus item was the fresh pineapple ginger drink!! It was refreshing and had the perfect ratio of both flavors. They also had a mango juice, iced tea and lemonade. My friend ordered the vegetarian bowl normally ($16) minus tomato & corn and added blackened salmon- 4/5 ($24 w salmon) The bowl came with rice & black beans, sliced avocado plus chickpeas in a sweet yellow sauce that was AMAZING!! That's all I'll say! I'll be back I'll be getting the order my friend had as it was much lighter. We ended up getting a slice of chocolate & red velvet cake. Kinda wished I tried the Lemon flavor bc it looked good. It didn't taste like they made it fresh on location so id save $6 per slice. This was my first time at Chef Bobby D's but it won't be the last! We tried jerk wings and reggae jam coconut shrimp for starters. Both were outstanding. The shrimp comes with coconut bread to sop up the delicious sauce. For our entrees, we had Jamaican Rasta pasta and penne duo blast pasta. This unassuming spot isn't much to look at. The outside seating is really nice. Would be perfect for sipping on a mimosa or margarita. Unfortunately, they don't have a liquor license. The food is delicious and freshly prepared. We all ordered shrimp something. Mine were blackened with Cajun butter. My kids got Rasta Pasta and Shrimp n Grits. The Cajun butter is EVERYTHING! My bland veggies turned into a delicacy because of the butter. My daughter's grits were too "dry" for her. We asked for some butter, it made a of difference. Our service was polite and efficient. They even changed my daughter's Island mango drink for a half and half. She didn't like the mango. As with most good restaurants, it was a bit pricey. We all had leftovers which made the price a little easier to justify. It's a great little spot. It's 5 minutes from there to the Cinemark in Towson. read more

The bbq jerk wings were excellent. Everything else not so much. Ordered Oxtail pasta recommended by the very pleasant server/cashier. Pasta was inedible with the cream sauce and oxtail gravy. So replaced with Cajun shrimp pasta. Shrimp undercooked. Cream sauce had so flavor. My girlfriend got the Jerk Salmon pasta . When I first saw the meal I thought it was burnt . Did not smell burnt . I guess it is a black sauce cooked in. I have had the meal in Orlando and Atlanta but this meal tasted better. The rice had different types of beans. He gave a large portion of meat. It was tender. It had red pepper charred and plantains. The food came out relatively fast, while I'd asked prior to ordering my food if it was served with BBQ jerk sauce or traditional jerk rub. I was promised it was jerk rub. Just ok. Haven't had jerk chicken before so I ordered that. I didn't find it to be really flavorful as I had heard. So I don't know if it was the dish wasn't a good representation or I just didn't care for it. I put the bottled sauce offered on the table on it. We ordered water with our meal. For some time I've had an interest for trying this restaurant out but never had an opportunity .. so i had decided to grab a quick bite from here not expecting anything spectacular but Man....Was I Wrong. I grabbed two small bite items: The Avocado and chicken wrap & Reggae jam coconut shrimp. both 10/10! Tasty coconut bread comes with the shrimp plus the curry coconut sauce is sweet and delicious. Completely amazed and destined to go back sooner than later. Time consumption for making food was longer than expected so definitely call ahead to place order then drive. read more

We were very excited to have Chef Bobby D in the neighborhood, but the first trip was disappointing. The food was good enough--jerk chicken, wings,and reggae jam shrimp--though the wings had more fat than preferred. It was the service that night that almost totally ruined the experience. Food didn't come out till 45 minutes past the time we'd been told. One of the side orders wasn't correct. And it would have been better if one of the servers at the front desk had apologized for the wait. I hope they get their act together. Definitely open to trying again in a few weeks. read more

We had visited the original Chef B D several years ago, and loved it. Then we tried to go back again, but they were closed due to a catering event. Somehow we never got back to the original location. When we saw they opened up a Towson Location (in a former ice cream store) we knew it was time to try them again. The space inside is small, and they don't take reservations. But there is some seating outside. And we were going on a Tuesday, so we thought our party of 4 wouldn't have any problem. We were lucky as we got the last table that would seat 4 inside. The falls road location had a server that brought us menus, food, utensils amd water But the Towson location wad self serve. You took the paper menus to your table, then when you decide what you want, go back to the front, place your order get your plastic utensils, drinks,pay and tell them where you are sitting. Those that sat outside had their food delivered by the Chef (who was Bobby D brother. But those that sat inside had to go back up front and get your own order. Maybe the cashier forgot we were Dining in, since our orders were packed in carry out containers. And they never call our name, we had just gone up and asked how much longer it would be, and the cashier pointed to the bags and told us that was our food. I ordered the crab cakes with 2 sides -coconut rice and a coconut bread. I've eaten alot of crab cakes in Maryland. But these were THE BEAT I've had in terms of flavor. All moist jumbo lump, with a delicious Caribbean sauce. Our friends ordered Salmon, but each got theirs made a different way. For sided one had plantains, the other had the veggies of the day. The only near miss was my wife's vegetarian bowl. The veggies were fresh, but had no sauce on it. Had she recieved any one of the 3 other sauces we had, it would have been much better. It's always hard to provide a review when there is a huge gulf between quality of food and quality of service. Never has there been a greater gulf than at Chef Bobby D in Towson. The food is 5 stars. The Oxtail with Plantains is to die for. The service, however, is Zero stars. There are young people in the reception. Their job is evidently to keep each other company. You ask about seeing a menu. They point to the scanner code on the wall. You ask how long the wait will be; they say 20-25 minutes. In the 2 times I have been there the waits were 2 hours (Opening Night so, maybe, understandable) and 50 minutes on a quiet Wednesday night. And, of course, if you ask about status the answer is "soon". I do not blame the young people. The problem is that Chef Bobby D, obviously, does not train them on proper wait processes. If you want to try this restaurant I would suggest ordering online and then dropping in an hour later to pick it up. Or try ordering through one of the food delivery services. To Chef Bobby D I recommend training your wait staff and, possibly, getting the chef an assistant to speed up the process. The Towson area has plenty of restaurants with great food and great service. You will not survive solely based on "food to die for". read more
