Ackee And Saltfish
Trina T.

Makes me so happy when ground provision is available for the ackee and salt fish. Now cost $25

This is what I received for a family chicken bundle

I placed an order at 9 am for a 2:45 pickup. I arrived at 2:45 pm and waited 20 min before anyone acknowledged that I was there. When I told the lady I was here to pick up an online order, the tickets were still on the machine and my order was not ready. I informed the lady that I needed to go after they wanted me to wait 20 min for my food. I waited and 5 min later my food came out. I asked if this was all of the food, she stated she needed to get my drink. I ordered a family chicken bundle and when I got home, I received the same amount of food for a large dinner. How disappointing to have spent all of that money for little product. It was supposed to feed 4-6 people and I fed 2 people. I will never support this business again and I found out that most of my family does not support this business due to similar issues. This business is too large for your employees to be unaware of what customer service is. They did not care about my order or my time but you took my payment quickly. Highly disappointed

Curry chicken roti

Sigh. I keep trying with this restaurant. Today I ordered a curry chicken roti ($15). I received 4 half chicken legs and a roti that had been microwaved to damn near smithereens. I'm over it at this point.

Lunch special Reggae pasta & tiny juice $14

I aint never in my life. I've been looking for good Jamaican food since I moved to Maryland & unfortunately this was a fail. First of all this is the tiniest cup I've ever seen. The reggae pasta was so nasty. It tasted like Alfredo with a lot of salt added & no actual seasoning. I asked if I could have jerk sauce added & she said yea & of course didn't put it.

One of my pieces of chicken was red in the middle and undercooked. Service was ok. The sides were actually really good. Decided to eat the rest of plate later and discovered This.

The food was good, but be prepared to WAIT! I called to order and was told 15 minutes. I know how it goes, so I arrived about 30 minutes later. I arrived and paid for my food and still had to wait an additional 20 minutes! I used to order quite a bit but took a break after many experiences with bad customer service. The customer service was fine, but waiting almost an hour for a call in order was a bit crazy.

Oxtail with Butter Beans
Sincere J.

Never again! Waste on time and money. The food was bland. No flavor at all; the meat, the rice and the cabbage weren't good. Best part of my dish was the plantains. & if you're looking for butter beans with your oxtail, don't count on it; only 3 came with my platter!

This was my first time trying Jamaican food in Maryland. I started with the Chicken soup: Very flavorful and hearty. Entree: Oxtails with cabbage and rice and pea, plantain's. The oxtail were very tender and spicy I must say I can tell scotch bonnet was heavy. I love spicy food so I didn't mind. Jerk Chicken, rice and pea, cabbage and plantains: the chicken was grilled which was a plus and the sauce was very good not spicy at all. Drinks: Pineapple/Ginger: this drink was made with way too much ginger as soon as I took a sip the ginger was so spicy that it overpowered the pineapple.

I was in the mood for some Caribbean food and decided to give Island Quizine a try. I ordered my food via DoorDash. I ordered oxtails with butter beans and it came with a side of rice and beans , cabbage and two sweet plantains. The oxtails were tender and seasoned to perfection. I feel like the gravy had a hint of spice to it. I'm not a fan of spicy food at all but it was so good I pushed through. The rice and veggies were flavorful as well. I didn't care too much for the plantains sadly. They were super dry. They forgot to put utensils and napkins in the bag which was a bit disappointing. I was in the middle of moving so getting to my utensils was a bit challenging at the time. The food sat for a good 30 mins before I could get to it. I will say the food was still hot despite the delay and the flavor made up for the missing utensils. Overall a good choice and I would order again. Just make sure if you order takeout you ensure they send utensils.

Came here to pick up something for Father's Day. I chose the brown stewed chicken and for hubby the chicken trio. The meals come with plantains, rice and beans, and cabbage.

Kingfish, Rice and Peas, Cabbage and Plantains (Kingfish Chefs Way)
Queen R.

My husband and I came here came here on July 6, 2024. We both ordered the Kingfish (Brown) it came with Rice and Peas, Cabbage and Plantain. The fish is a thick Kingfish Steak in an a brown sauce, not a whole fish like we're use too. It has peppers and carrots on it too. The cabbage, rice and peas are both scarcely seasoned so that you can mix it with the sauce and the flavor won't clash. The only problem was the it was a lot of Rice and Peas. The fish was cooked perfect and wasn't dry. We also ordered Chicken Patties and Macaroni and Cheese. The patties weren't overly spicy and the flavors were on point. While the Mac and Cheese was some of the best I've had and was super cheesy. Everyone was friendly and made sure we ordered exactly what we wanted. It took about 25-30 minutes for our meal because it was done Chefs Way. Overall it was Jamaican food. There was not too much that made it stand out. We probably won't get the Kingfish again but, intend to come back for the Sakon and trying the other menu items. Oh! The portions are big enough you can save some for later. We were very full and didn't even finish everything. The atmosphere was welcoming, it wasn't too dark or too bright. It was extra clean and the smell of good food filled the air. They have a huge section of food to choose from and we will be back to try more.

Thanksgiving Curried Turkey
Jessica J.

We got the curried turkey for Thanksgiving and it was absolutely delicious! It even came with some stuffing inside. The only thing is that it is a bit spicy, but otherwise very tasty and it is definitely not dry. They also have a beautiful presentation. I highly recommend it!

Diasporan Soul is a small family-owned restaurant in the Hamilton neighborhood offering a variety…read moreof plant-based and traditional Jamaican American fusion. In my opinion, finding good Jamaican food in the area has been a challenge. Often too sweet and not packing enough flavor. But Diasporan Soul has put that opinion to bed. When you walk into Diasporan Soul they have a very nice Afro-centric dining area as well as a sort of apothecary selection for patrons to browse and buy when the dining room is open. However, the night I stopped by they seemed to be doing only carry out, which you order in the back of the restaurant. My go-to order is always jerk chicken with cabbage, rice & peas, and a beef patty. And Diasporan Soul did not disappoint. The jerk chicken was smoky, seasoned well, and fall off the bone tender. However, next time I'll ask to have my chicken topped with some sauce because that would've definitely taken it over the top. The cabbage was buttery and cooked perfectly and the rice was delicious. The beef patty was actually one of the better beef patties I've had here in the area, with a decent amount of filling. If you're in the area or looking for a new Jamaican restaurant to try, then you have to give Diasporan Soul a try. The service was pleasant, and the food was delicious and plentiful. I can't wait for my next visit.

Holy Moly Batman!…read more This place has given me life all up and through and around the corner. Not sure how I happened upon this spot, but upon first notice, I became happy. It reminds me of home. I would say it is fairly easy to spot from the road, as the awning is bright blue...get it, hummingbird.....he he he. There appears to be plenty of street parking. Inside isn't much to look at, one table and a counter to order food. There is a menu on the on a dry erase board. I think some of the items change depending on day. On this day, I tried the stew beef, and oxtail dinners. It has been so hard to find a Caribbean spot that makes good food in thee Baltimore, most places that I try totally miss the mark, as the food is under seasoned, and just.not.right. When I say that the cook stuck her entttiiirrreee foot up in the food, yes Gawd! Everything that I tried, I loved. The brown stew tasted perfect, with just the right amount of potato and pepper and the meat was uber tender. The rice and peas and cabbage were a nice side, I mean I can't say that I have ever had rice and peas. The oxtail, which I'm always leery of trying was divine, and again oh so tender. The dinners themselves were large, even the smaller of the two containers was enough for two. This will be my go to spot when I'm unable to get on home to get my families home made version. Wooop!
