This quaint space is a little small in size, but big in flavor. I was welcomed amicably by the staff and I tried the curry chicken which was amazing. Yummy yummy! The food was exactly what I needed. A local and pops establishment with authentic flavors. We arrived just before the lunch rush, but it was still like a 45minute wait for our food. I had a taste for some Caribbean cuisine and decided to give Jerk Hut a try. I went with the brown stew chicken which comes with rice, cabbage and two sweet plantains. I also got a side order of sweet plantains. I honestly ordered the side order of plantains because the description didn't say the meal came with it. I love plantains and didn't want to chance not having any at all. The food was flavorful and the large portion has enough food for 2 maybe even 3 servings depending on how you eat. I thought I was playing it safe getting brown stew chicken because I didn't want anything spicy. But my meal had a kick to it. I think it was largely due to the amount of pimento/allspice seeds in it. I had to examine each forkful to make sure I wasn't chewing on any after I chewed on two. I think there were about 24 seeds in my meal alone. I've never experience that eating Jamaican food. The chicken was super tender but I received more gravy, bones and potatoes than I did chicken. I was disappointed cause like I said the food was flavorful. I mean even with the spice level so high my greedy behind kept eating. But my mouth paid the price. Yikes! This is the first time we've had Caribbean food and everything was so delicious. Unfortunately we went on Friday after the lunch rush but because all the food was great, they ran out. The curry goat was amazing! I love the flavor and the meat was tender and slipped right off any bones. And I'm not sure how to say it but the bones were the right size? I had terrible goat curry at an Indian place once with tiny chips of bone all throughout it that ended up in every mouthful, but these bones were large enough to be easy to see, clean, and smoothly pulled away from the meat with a fork or with an easy press of teeth, and there was plenty of meat in comparison to bones. Dinner came with rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains, and I liked the cabbage a lot. I also got the festival dumplings to try them. I didn't count but a lot of pieces that were long and fattest in middle and tapered at ends. Good dense but soft bites of dough with a hint of sweetness, I'd get them again. They have no filling, I saw them described that they did on delivery app but that's mistaken, it's dough all the way through. Reminded me of the fried dough elephant ears carnivals used to sell before funnel cakes sadly replaced them. So the food was great, but warning there is a 10% fee added onto checks so you pay more than what's on the menu. They still keep out menus for, and poster on wall of, three Jamaican desserts I was excited to try, but I was told they didn't serve them anymore and hadn't for months. Let me first say, they were timely and very pleasant and the pineapple ginger drink was refreshing. As for the food....the beef patty was 90% Patty and 10% beef. It was also lukewarm at best but I can't fault them for that. I had the oxtail entree. First time I've ever gotten white rice in the platter for any Caribbean spot so that was unexpected to me. Rice did have gravy on most of it so that gave it some flavor. I got one medium sized oxtail and 3 extra small ones. For $22, that was absolutely a disappointment. The flavor of the oxtail had an unexpected sweetness to it that's just not my preference. This was enough of an experience that would deter me from eating there again. I also got the stewed chicken, and that gravy was sweet too. My family rejected it after the first helping. I was extremely pleased with the food and service I received this past week. I can't say I am an expert in Jamaican food, but everything we tried was excellent. We ordered take out and were given an accurate estimated wait for the food and, I hate to be surprised by this, but our order was 100% correct, not something many places seem to get right these days. If I had one word of caution, the food was fairly spicy. It was ok for me, but too much for others in our party. I been looking for a Jamaica restaurant that's not americanized, and this is the place. I been here 3 times already this month. The jerk chicken is juicy with the spicy jerk seasoning that you can taste with every bite.
