We shared a few items from their menu: Creole Shrimp Boat (sauteed shrimp, mussels, jumbo lump crab meat, and the fish of the day simmered in a fire roasted red bell pepper sauce, with Creole rice and the vegetable of the day); Hot Cat Stack (fried catfish stacked with sweet and savory Andouille sausage cornbread, spicy crawfish red pepper meunière, honey chive compound butter, hot honey, and the vegetable of the day); a half rack of ribs (slow roasted ribs, Louisiana dry rub seasoning, mopped in BBQ sauce, mashed potato, and the vegetable of the day); and a strawberry bread pudding. Everything was delicious. I liked every course we had, but the Hot Cat Stack was wow. I've had a lot of bad to blah bread puddings in my life, but Ethel's wasn't bad or blah. The candied yams and cabbage were good. Those are my go-to's! My partner didn't say much about her meal, but from the looks of things, she enjoyed it. But that Oreo cheesecake...... BABY! We started things off with the appetizers, and the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Deviled Eggs were absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of the best things we ordered. Their version was a little different from what I'm used to and almost gave me French toast stick vibes. The consistency was good and it definitely wasn't bad, just a different take on cornbread than I expected. Between the two appetizers, though, I'm choosing those deviled eggs every single time. For my meal, I ordered three scrambled eggs with cheese, Cranberry Maple Turkey Sausage, shredded hash browns, an everything biscuit with cream cheese, and pancakes. Everything was good, but those pancakes were easily the star of the meal. Honestly, some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Perfect consistency, fluffy in the middle with slightly crispy edges, and flavorful enough that you really didn't need much syrup. The eggs were solid -- simple scrambled eggs with cheese done right. The Cranberry Maple Turkey Sausage was really, really good as well. I'm personally not a huge fan of shredded hash browns because I prefer home fries or diced breakfast potatoes, but that's more of a texture preference than anything being wrong with them. I'm also not much of a bagel person, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the everything biscuit, but surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. My lady ordered the brisket skillet, which had brisket, scrambled eggs, shredded potatoes, peppers, and everything mixed together. Very flavorful, and the portion was definitely generous. For drinks, she had the Pineapple Coconut Colada, which was good and definitely had a heavy pour that day. I had Shirley's Crush. I'm already a big fan of orange crushes, and theirs was really good -- flavorful, refreshing, and they definitely weren't stingy with the alcohol. Our waitress, Melissa, was amazing. Very attentive, helpful, friendly, and she took great care of us throughout the entire meal. Great service can really add to an experience, and she definitely did that for us. I honestly don't have any real complaints about Miss Shirley's. The food was good, the service was excellent, portions were generous, and there were so many other things on the menu that caught my attention. I already know I'll be going back so I can start scratching some more items off the list. The only downside worth mentioning is parking, but that's pretty normal for a city location. There's a parking garage directly across the street, which is extremely convenient, but we paid around $24 for maybe an hour and a half to two hours. A little pricey for that amount of time, but I guess you're paying for the convenience of being literally across the street. Overall, my first experience was a solid 5 out of 5. I can only speak for my visit, but the food, drinks, service, and overall experience were all on point. Definitely recommend, and I'll definitely be back.
