I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The restaurant is inside this building that has other restaurants inside and a bar. I forget the name though. Nice concept. The building has open windows all around so you can see the different restaurants inside. Creole Soul is definitely a taste of New Orleans right here in Baltimore. You can truly feel the heart and soul in every dish. The Creole salmon and grits topped with shrimp were rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And the beignets? pillowy, layered and flaky and warm. I kept telling my partner they taste like heaven, I can't put it into better words than that! We also had the fries and their jungle juice, which was bold and unforgettable. It looks like tea but it's all juice! It's clear the love and intention is put into everything coming out of that kitchen--and to top it off, the head chef is so sweet and friendly. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I came all the way from CT to try this spot. I was met with straight faces and terse language. The establishment had very people dining at the time. There was a 20 minute wait just to order food. When I was finally able to order the lady at the register asked me to step closer, she then said that I was too close and asked me to step back. It came off very rude especially when from the beginning I was already at an arms length distance. I paid in cash & didn't get my full change because they had no coins. The lady took my name and number and told me I would get a text when my food was ready. I waited in my car for 45 min and NEVER received a text. Finally I just went inside and grabbed my food. A throwback to New Orleans with the frozen Hurricanes. We did have to ask to order drinks getting our appetizer order in before. The Executive Chef coming out to thank us for visiting was a nice touch. The appetizers were great. The seafood dip had chunks of shrimp which I couldn't stop eating. The ate all of the wings. I was full by the time dinner came. The Bourbon Salmon was blackened with shrimp and creole sauce. The Seafood Gumbo had a nice roux and the right amount of spiciness. It seemed like we had a newer waiter. Small details like keeping the water filled and asking if we wanted another drink or dessert kept me from rating higher. Waited for 8 minutes to actually talk to the person up front and I was asked what I ordered. 5 minutes later, I watched part of my order assembled and then drop the fried green tomatoes in the fryer. 25 minutes after my notification, I finally got my food. I originally ordered the Beignets as I only wanted dessert but changed my mind once I saw the rest of the menu. I ended up grabbing the red velvet skillet cornbread, regular cornbread and Lobster Mac & Cheese. The Beignets were good and warm. The cornbread could have been better. Visited second time. I was excited to see the traffic picked up for this local restaurant. The taste of the appetizer and entree was amazing. Our server/ bartender was very friendly. Things they can improve on: operations. They took our appetizer to the wrong table. Then immediately brought out one persons entree. He was half way through his entree before our server noticed I didn't receive mine and went to check on it. It was sitting in the back for a while. For a while they went through lots of staffing changes so I gave them grace when it was hit or miss but it's been nothing but misses. While in Remington for something else, I decided to stop by R.House. After looking over all the stalls and options, I decided to go with Creole Soul. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy which came with a side of fries. I also got some peach cobbler. I ended up getting my food to go. One thing I found a little weird was that I got two different types of fries. Some were straight and others were crinkly cut. I'm not sure if this was done intentionally or if they ran out of one, used another, and just threw them together. The fries weren't anything spectacular anyway. However, the star of the show was the po boy. It consisted of huge, crispy shrimp on a soft roll with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and some sort of sauce (remoulade?). The peach cobbler was just ok to me. Honestly, I could do that po boy again and wouldn't miss the fries at all. I've been to Creole Soul on another occasion but for the life of me, I can't remember what I ordered. I know I got mac and cheese and I really enjoyed it. I don't eat seafood so my options here are limited. I usually just stop by for the macaroni and cheese but on this particular visit, I decided to try the northern beans and rice too. I enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, as usual, and I just added hot sauce. I tend to add hot sauce to most things. The northern beans and rice weren't exactly what I expected but they were fine. I added a little more seasoning when I got home and they were perfect the next day. They reheated well and were the perfect after church meal. The service here is always nice. I've always encountered courteous staff and I've never had to wait very long for my food. They don't have much control over the ambiance. Depending on the day of the week or even time of day, R. House can be quiet or noisy. It's a food hall with a bar so don't go on a Friday or Saturday night if you're looking for an intimate setting. We went on Saturday and it was hard to find a table and there were kids running around. I've gone during the week before and had quite the opposite experience. The food here was okay when I came here a while back. I got a Mo'Boy Po Boy for $24 that was soggy and with too much sauce. It did have catfish and shrimp but because it was soggy, it ruined the flavor. I also got the red velvet cornbread, which seemed so interesting! for $5.50. It was a big portion of cornbread, but it was dry. My cousin got fish with grits and it had too much oil. A plus is that it is black owned and they do soul food and seafood. They just seem to struggle with consistency. R house is a nice place overall so you won't have a problem with that. Service was fine. So I wanted disappointed but I also wasn't wowed either. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy with fries and a side of Mac and cheese. The sandwich is assembled to order so you will have a wait a little for your shrimp and fries to be cooked. Which was not a problem at all for me. What was a problem was all that sauce they put on my sandwich. It was my first time trying it so I got the sandwich as is but if I were to get it again I'd probably get the sauce on the side or ask for minimal. The shrimp was seasoned and fried crispy. Overall the sandwich was good and fills you up without the fries. The fries were the standard crinkle cut with old bay and they were fried just right. Can't go wrong there! Now the Mac and cheese was just okay for me. Very oily and it also had a little kick. Just a tad but not too much which I also didn't mind. I think it is a 5 cheese Mac but I didn't taste any sharp cheddar which is what my tastebuds look for. It's definitely decent though and would suggest others try it out for themselves. Service was immaculate, Lady was very friendly and helpful as this was my first time here at The R House. (Which the ambiance was amazing) On to the food, soul food is one of my soft spots and the presentation was beautiful. One thing that was missing was a heat factor. Everyone's heat threshold is different and the variety of people that come through you would expect a heat scal with southern food. Anyways I would come back again and try other options. This time I got the shrimp and grits, which was everything you would expect from it. The shrimp was pretty big and the portion sizes were decent for the price. My girlfriend also got the gumbo, which again we like my gumbo with a little heat (personal preference) But overall great place. Second experience terrible. Makes me not want to ever go again.... Maybe it was an off day but literally just threw everything in a bowl. You have to tell them whether you want it mixed or not? I tried the shrimp po boy. I think if they used smaller shrimp and gave you more it be more filling. Just a little too much bread with about 4 maybe 5 jumbo shrimp. My guest and I were first timers and the employees were extremely patient and even let us sample a couple of items we were considering. We ultimately went with the seafood gumbo and the shrimp and grits. It took about 20 minutes for the food to come out--they send texts when the orders are complete. The grits were the star of the show. Make no mistake: the gumbo was tasty but the shrimp and grits made us both say, "Oh my God." Plus I thought the gumbo would include crab meat but instead it was a quarter of a crab that you'd have to crack after pulling it from gumbo--a significant flaw in my book. I recently went to a wedding where they served shrimp and grits and decided to try to find some close to home. Saw some reviews on Yelp for Creole Soul and decided to go there since it wasn't far from home. Yo... that blackened salmon with shrimp and grits was so good it bought a tear to my eye. The grits were creamy, cheesy, and so flavorful with that sauce on top. The shrimp were delicious and cooked perfectly. I would have given five stars, but the salmon was a bit over cooked, and I was slighted on one of those succulent shrimp (I saw you drop it in the floor ). I will definitely return!!!
