Taste This is definitely one of my favorite carry outs in the city. I've been coming here since they first opened at this location and the food is always excellent! The salmon is usually my go to. I love both the grilled and the stuffed option. The BBQ ribs and Taste This Hennessey ribs are good too. They have great sides too. The mac and cheese is my favorite. The collard greens are delicious also. The Taste This Harbor East Baked potato was my absolute favorite thing to get but it got a little too pricey. I've had Taste This a few times and each time was good! I would recommend placing the order an hour beforehand as they are usually busy. The portions are amazing in the platter, usually I finish half and save the rest as leftovers. The yellow rice is good, well-seasoned especially if you order something with sauce. My partner loved the fried catfish and thought it was well-seasoned and crispy. My favorite would be the smothered pork chop! There was a good amount of gravy, though I would say that the pork was a little dry. I also like the spiced chicken because of the sauce, which was creamy and delicious, but the chicken itself was more tough and dry. The sides on the other hand are AMAZING! My favorites are the string beans, collard greens, and garlic mashed potatoes. My partner loved the yams, which were sweet and spiced well. I would probably skip the Mac and cheese, it's really cheesy but wasn't as seasoned as I would have liked. Most of the food was on the saltier side for me personally. read more

Had really high hopes of this place as it was seemingly the best food option available in the area. I'm not big on seafood (not a Baltimore local) and tried their chicken tacos as I'm from California and had been craving some Mexican food. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese. I started with the Mac and cheese and in terms of Mac and cheese go I know everyone has their own opinion but this one was just very bland the cheese had no flavor and the portion was tiny. The taco was the worst thing. Honestly it was the worst taco I've ever had it was falling apart they loaded it with meat which had no taste at all and it was just a wet mess with tons of vegetables hidden at the bottom of the taco tortilla. I had maybe 4 total bites of the taco and couldn't even eat any more. It was such a huge letdown and considering the price an absolute ripoff. Luckily I was visiting Baltimore but if I ever go back again I will not be going back to eat at Taste This. When it comes to Soul Food joints, this spot is average. However, the location is excellent, on the corner of E 25th and St. Paul St. The dining room was clean. Restrooms were available for customers; the establishment has a great face. On the food side, the shining light starts to dim. I started with the basics, fried chicken dinner with macaroni and yams. I made a special request to have my wings fried hard. When it comes to fried chicken, I prefer fried hard. It is all about texture. There is nothing worse than crispy skin with pink chicken beneath. Or worse yet, chicken cannot reach the "done" point. Instead, Taste This poultry is slightly slippery and juicy, with a rubber-like rebound on each bite. The chicken did not reach the "done" point. It was apparent in the way the drum separated from the flat. It was also noticeable how the skin was so crisp and the meat so tight. There should be harmony between the two. The skin on the drum should break with the drum and stay with the drum. Something is wrong if I bite and skin shatters, but the meat stays on the bone. The yams were confusing. There were tasteless chunks amid gravy-like portions. The cheese in the macaroni was faint. I did not finish either. The solution is at a lower temperature with a slightly longer cook time. This balance would produce better-fried chicken. There would be time for the chicken to absorb the seasoning while "cooking" thoroughly. In the current state, the flash-frying will have crispy skin with bland tough poultry waiting. Unfortunately, I am allergic to fish; I would love to sample the fish dinners. So that's where the stars appear. When it comes to Fried Chicken, here are your options. You can risk insisting on having your chicken fried hard beyond the point of a standard request. Or you can avoid it entirely, saving yourself the foodie remorse of disappointingly weak chicken that's fried. read more

This was a recommended spot for me as a person visiting for the first time. I didn't know what to expect. It's a neighborhood restaurant with a small dining area. You order at the counter. The staff was busy, one woman at the counter taking orders but she was timely. I initially wanted to try the fried chicken but it only came in wings. I decided on their spicy chicken platter which was grilled chicken over rice with a sauce and two sides. I selected cabbage and Mac and cheese for my sides. I also got their pina colada tea. The tea came first which was very good. Didn't know what to expect but I enjoyed it. The food was awesome. I really enjoyed the spicy chicken, sauce was rich and flavorful. Staff is friendly and efficient. It can get busy in the evenings so it's best to order ahead. Everything was amazing. This is like homemade Sunday night dinner food. The green beans were my favorite (not pictured). The portions were so large you can get two meals out of each. I found out you can order just a sides platter which I will likely get next time as they were THAT GOOD I could have them as a meal by themselves. I went to the newer location on Harford Rd and they were closed tonight because of a power outage. I planned to go to this place all week so I decided to go to their other location on 25th St. I ordered the Fried Chicken platter. Taste This is my go-to place for UberEats. There are so few consistent and reliable restaurants in this area. The platters and sides are great and baked potatoes while PRICEY are also delicious. This was an excellent spot in the middle of dreary Baltimore. We were traveling, and you can only eat so much fast food and gas station pick up. We needed real home cooked food. The string beans were like my mommas, oh so tender and good, and for dessert, although it wasn't supposed to be, we had Eggnogg cornbread! I had never, and upon God, I have fallen in love with eggnog cornbread! We even had a chance to meet the chef before we departed, which was special to meet the person who's hands lovingly cooked all that food. We were made to feel special and I appreciate that especially when you are on the road the world can seem big and cold but that little place changed our dreary visit to a bright shining moment on a snow flurry day! There is always a problem with any order placed by me or my coworkers. Either the Mac and cheese is burnt (how though?!?), salmon is over cooked, food is out of stock, orders go missing...when you call to ask them about your order, the staff doesn't offer apologies or explanations.
