Winter melon tea
Alexander W.

I love Taiwanese food, and this restaurant is pretty good. I always love Taiwanese ground pork rice so that was great. The tofu went pretty hard as well. I expected a dissent kind of Taiwanese sausage but that's on me for not knowing the menu. Service was good. There was plenty of space on a weekday night. The decor is nice, maybe a bit darker than I expected (dark feels like a fancy restaurant), but there were fun decorations. Were some boxes on a table but I didn't mind.

super packed on a saturday evening...

saturday dinner after golf for 3 adults...arrived before 7pm, but a long line and wait...restaurant was packed....a clipboard to sign in on the waitlist...a crowd of people standing outside and sitting inside waiting...waiting and waiting...near our turn and waitress taking our orders before being seated...table finally ready and food started to come out...rice was $2 per bowl...most of the dishes were $15.95 or $16.95...ham hock (pork feet) was cooked perfectly...deboned and sliced....gelatinous outer layer and meat was very tender...the dipping sauce was slightly sweet and delicious...asking for more sauce...a good dish for $16.95...the bitter melon was very bitter on the first bite, but get use to it after 2nd, 3rd and 4th bite...the chicken dish was tasty and savory...noodle dish was also very flavorful with the sauce coating each strand...no idea what was ordered or the names of the dishes...melon tea was $2.50, but too sweet for me...$96 total after tax and tip for a filling good meal for 3 hungry men...

Food is okay, but very rude service. There's nothing wrong about the food, but no highlight either. I like the sauce more than pork feet itself. However, I experienced very rude service. A waiter told me they don't take credit cards when I was trying to pay. I was like, okay, maybe I should have done more research before I went there. So I tried to talk to him to see if there's any other options, like Zelle or Venmo, or maybe I can go to a nearby ATM and get some cash. He ignored me and did not respond, and left. I walked around, was finally able to get a waitress who was willing to talk to me. I explained that I didn't know they only took cash and I wonder if I can pay through other ways. She pointed at the wall and told me "it says on the wall", sounding like blaming me for not getting cash ready. Yes, maybe I should have read all the signs on the wall, but I really don't enjoy being blamed when I did nothing wrong. Assuming credit cards as one of the payment methods is not my fault, just how the society works. Anyway, I was able to pay them via Venmo, but I did not enjoy the experience at all.

im a huge fan of taiwan cafe and wish they could open up another location on the peninsula or in sf! this was my second time at the restaurant and i got the oyster pancake, hot and sour soup, meat ball, and a-choy. note that the hot and sour soup doesnt have any meat. the a-choy was lightly cooked and had subtle flavors, perfectly cooked in a homestyle manner. i highly recommend taiwan cafe and can't wait to go back!

Food is so so so good here!! This is definitely one of the best Taiwanese restaurants in the area! My most favorites would probably be the oyster pancake, shaved ice, and the noodles. Other times I also order the chicken roll, or their most famous pork dish. Everything is tasty and well done!! Everyone working is super friendly and theyre also quick to bring out anything you might need. They're also quick to pick up any empty plates so the table never got too overwhelming The atmosphere in the store is great, its a very comfy spot and I love the decor around the store. Definitely recommend this place!

This is our second time to visit Taiwan Cafe. I love their pork knuckles and oyster with egg omelette. The staff are friendly and patient. We both feel like we were in Taipei that we visited few months ago. We definitely come back for more:)

This place is really not bad. As for Taiwanese food, like I always say, I'm not usually a big fan of it -- but this restaurant is truly outstanding

I love going to this homey comfort spot with my parents. My mom is Hakka so she loves coming here to eat some of the traditional dishes. I personally love eating the ban tiao because it's one of the popular dishes in my grandma's hometown. It was flavorful and reminded me a little of the ban tiao I had at my grandma's. There's a dry version too but I prefer the soup one.

Basil Three Delight - A tasty trio of chicken, squid, and intestine stir-fried with basil for that classic aromatic kick. Savory and full of wok flavor! Ground Pork Over Rice - Simple, hearty, and so satisfying. The rich, savory pork paired perfectly with fluffy rice Wan Luan Pork Hock - The soy-based sauce had a deep, rich taste. Tender, flavorful

We haven't had Taiwanese food in Tri-valley for a while so we decided to try this place. The food was average, it wasn't bad but bot special. We asked for no msg. The portion size was average. Service was pretty good but we had to ask for a bowl of rice 2x.

I wouldn't say it's authentic, but WOW! It's delicious! Oyster Pancake --- tbh. I was really surprised. Not only did the oyster tasted fresh, it was super tasty! I believe there was mochi in the pancake(?). It definitely tasted something out of the ordinary. Salted Fried Tofu --- imo, the fried egg yolk and peanut crumbs is quite flavorful, it's goes great with some rice~ This one is my current #1 favorite! Fried Rice with Sakura Shrimp --- the seasoning felt light, but that works for me because it pairs exceptionally well with the other dishes we had ordered. Pork Hock --- juicy and tender!

Came for lunch on Father's Day with hubby and MIL. Complimentary hot tea. Taiwan Style Oyster Pan Fry - Small oysters in tapioca pancake with gravy on top. It was just OK. A Choy - stir fried with garlic. I felt it was over cooked, would have liked it more crunchy. Squid with Special Sauce - The sauce with onions were flavorful but the squid was bland to me. Pork Hock with Rice - It also came with ground pork, bamboo shoots, pickle veg, cooked spinach, and marinated egg, This was my favorit dish 5% discount for cash payment

Food: pork knuckles pretty yummy. A bit stinky smell though. I eat it for the collagen boost! The veggies that come with it is yummy. The oyster egg is okay. Doesn't taste super fresh but decent. The beef black pepper was ick. The beef was not fresh, not good. Service: fast to take order. Slow to bring dishes. Took like 20+ mins for the beef to arrive. Ambiance: casual. Pretty stuffy.

The fried tofu was okay, nothing too special - not much seasoning in my opinion. It was nice and crispy though. The veggie noodles were very simple in a veggie broth, with chinese chives, chrysantheum greens, tomatoes with noodles. It was very light. The stir fry assorted wild mushrooms was definitely the highlight the meal. They stir fry a variety of mushrooms with chili peppers so it is spicy, but goes so well with rice. Highly recommend this dish. For the dishes I ordered, they were all vegetarian but they have other dishes as well. I'll definitely be back to try their other meat dishes too.

It looks like they specialize in Rice Noodles, so definitely give those a try! Let me just say everything that you order here comes out steaming hot so it's not your usual cart dim sum style. This was something that I tried for the first time and really appreciated! Some of the things I tried: Steamed pork and taro chunks 4/5 The steamed pork was so juicy and flavorful. They also throw in some taro chunks which I don't typically see, but it was delicious. A classic dish that's definitely worth trying. Thousand year old egg congee 4/5 The congee here comes in a GIGANTIC bowl. This is definitely something to order if going in a party of 3-4. The congee has such a home feel to it and it reminded me a lot of my grandma's congee. This was delicious. The only thing I would ask for is, I wish they had black pepper here, because that would make this dish pop out so much more Egg Rice Noodle 3/5 I saw this and it looked interesting, but it wasn't anything I found special. It was good, but not sure if I would get this again. If you're a huge fan of eggs maybe this dish is for you! Shrimp and chives Rice Noodle 5/5 This was really good, and I would order this again. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and everything was so flavorful with that oyster sauce poured over the rice noodles. I enjoyed this dish a lot, and a perfect order if you're going in a party of 3. Shrimp and chives dumpling 5/5 This is pretty similar to the rice noodle dish. One thing that I have to note is the dumpling was very soft. I preferred this a lot, since my experience with this dish is many dim sum places tend to make the skin of this dumpling really hard. This made it more enjoyable to eat. Siu Mai (Ground Pork and shrimp dumpling) 5/5 This is probably my favorite dim sum order and they nailed this one! When you take a bite into that dumpling, it is so juicy. It carries an amazing scent when you take a bite into it and I didn't really ever notice this with other Siu Mai order's. A classic order, definitely would order this one again. Service 5/5 There service here is exceptional and staff is amazing. Extremely helpful, they brought out some chili oil for us since it wasn't on the table. Food came out exceptionally quick. Everything was awesome! One thing to note, this place is pretty small so you will have to wait outside if you are on the waitlist. Check this place out, definitely a top tier dim sum place if you are looking for quality and price. Everything is very cheap and they also offer affordable rice plates (around $12-13) if you were looking for a quick meal togo!

The food was okay, but the service was basically a DIY project. When the check came and I left a zero on the tip line, the woman handing it to me pointed it out and asked why I hadn't tipped. Luckily, she opened that door, so I had the chance to explain why the complete lack of service earned that zero: * We seated ourselves after someone shouted "your table is ready" from all the way across the dining room. * No one greeted us, checked on us, or ever claimed to be our server. * We placed the entire order ourselves through our phones. * Our water pitcher emptied after our first pour and sat there completely forgotten for the rest of the meal. * Staff repeatedly kicked and bumped the backs of our chairs every time they walked by. * An employee forgot to lock the bathroom door, and when my husband and son walked in, she actually scowled at my kid while washing her hands instead of apologizing for not locking it. If I'm seating my own family, handling our own ordering on a phone, and tracking down my own water, asking for a tip at the end is a pretty bold move. We won't be returning.

Perfect timing! I'd glanced at the Yelp rating beforehand and was a little skeptical, but the reviews seemed to say the food was good. That was definitely our experience. We ordered a lot, and almost everything was fantastic. The hot and sour soup was a standout. It came in a huge bowl, and my husband loved it even though he usually doesn't like hot and sour soup. We also enjoyed the salt and pepper fish, Salty Fish Chicken with Eggplant Clay Pot, and chow fun. The menu has a great variety, and I was happy to see onion pancakes. The only dish we weren't sure about was the salt and pepper pork, which came out red, not what we expected. The woman serving us was helpful and patient. She got a little confused when we asked to split the bill, so one person paid and the rest of us sent him our shares. A cat also kept wandering into the restaurant, which was unexpected! This time, I ordered the stinky tofu. Honestly, you can probably pass on this one. The price doesn't really match the taste or quality, so I wouldn't recommend it. I also ordered the eggplant and tofu clay pot. It was pretty ordinary, but the one advantage is that I ordered it through Panda Food Delivery, and it cost less than $10, so at that price, I can't really complain. I also tried the stir-fried snail meat with pickled long beans. I'm not quite sure how to rate this one. The flavor itself was actually pretty good, but it didn't really taste like what I expected from pickled long beans. They also have two dishes made with pickled long beans--the pickled long bean soup noodles and the stir-fried noodles. Both were just average to me.
