I made the drive because I was craving their chile relleno burrito, I decided to switch things up and try something new. First up was the chile relleno burrito--the reason I came. The cheesy, roasted chile packed inside never disappoints. Then I tried the birria burrito, and it completely delivered. Tender, flavorful meat, plenty of juice, and every bite was packed with rich, savory flavor. I'll definitely be ordering this one again. While I was filming, the owner asked if I'd like to try one of their newer menu items--a hibiscus taco. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it surprised me in the best way. It starts with a pleasant sweetness, followed by just enough spice to build at the end, creating a unique combination that really works. It's unlike anything I've had before and absolutely worth trying. To finish it all off, I cracked open an ice-cold Mexican Coke--the perfect pairing for a meal like this. Instead of rushing through another meal in the car, I actually sat down, enjoyed every bite, and had some great conversation with the owner. Those unexpected moments are what make local spots like this so special. If you're looking for an incredible burrito and want to try something a little different, make the trip to Testal in Phoenix. Such a fun concept to take that experience and turn it into a fast casual restaurant. The menu is painted on the wall--again, very true to the authentic experience. Casa shares Lobby space with the Luhrs Building, an amazing piece of PHx history. Great bathrooms and vintage lobby. I LOVE the Moxie and the inside of Casa did not disappoint. What a pretty setting. The small outside area reminded me of Queens NY places of memory with alley dining. It was too hot to sit out there today, but next time. I came at an off time so had the whole place to myself. I was also warned this is a pricey place and not your typical Mexican restaurant but more authentic and high end. Agree, No chips and salsa here. I ordered the Julia's Tacos. It was not what I expected. I was concerned at first because the first bite had a slight Chipotle taste and I am not a fan. But I realized the tacos were amazingly delish. Messy but good. lol Okay, the portions are small, high quality, and the place is pricey so not a place to go if you like large dishes of American style Tex Mex. I can see this place would not be for everyone with their smaller more authentic plates but it was great for me. The Menu does have a smaller amount of choices. The drink menu looked amazing. I DID not indulge but guessing lots of drinks get served here. I want to come back and try their Truffle fries. Also, chuckling at some of the other reviews. Who goes to DT and does not expect to pay for parking? You can take the Lightrail for 2 bucks one as a senior. Also, Citiscape is sketchy? The Moxie is a GORGEOUS vintage building and the area is just fine. Glad to hear they have live music, definitely coming back.

We had a party of 15 at Casa de Julia on August 16 and spent over $400. Unfortunately, the overall…read moreexperience was disappointing, and the follow-up customer service left an even worse impression. When I called ahead to make arrangements for our group, I was told that parking at CityScape would be validated. Based on that information, we arranged for our group to park there. What was not communicated to us was that the validation only covered one hour. By the time we left, our party had four cars and our guests had to pay an additional $40 in parking. The restaurant's Executive Chef later acknowledged in writing that the one-hour limit was not clearly communicated to us on the phone and apologized, even saying they were changing their reservation team's process so the limit would be stated on every call going forward. However, they refused to reimburse the $40 parking expense. Our parking issue also wasn't the only problem. Two members of our party waited approximately 45 minutes for their meals, food came out in waves, and my husband's burger was extremely salty. We were there for a family celebration and chose not to turn the evening into a confrontation by constantly complaining at the table. We simply tried to enjoy our time together. We appreciated the initial apology and acknowledgment of the issues. However, when we declined the offer of complimentary appetizers on a future visit because we had no intention of returning and don't typically order appetizers anyway, the tone of the final response became noticeably defensive. We were told that our reservation policies were available on OpenTable and that our reservation was made and confirmed there, despite the fact that we made our reservation arrangements over the phone. The only link we received afterward was to add a card to the reservation. For a party of 15 that spent over $400, I don't think asking for reimbursement of the $40 parking expense--especially after the restaurant acknowledged the parking policy was not properly communicated--was unreasonable. Instead of simply accepting responsibility for the communication issue, the final response focused on defending the restaurant, shifting blame, and ultimately stating that they "consider the matter closed." I've attached screenshots of the email exchange so people can see the full conversation and decide for themselves. We won't be returning. This review is simply an honest account of our experience and hopefully helps future guests make informed decisions.

Customer service was nice and friendly, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and very unique inside it really stands out. They have an extensive drink menu and some interesting food options, including items like bone marrow. The pricing is on the higher end, more like a special occasion or upscale restaurant. They do offer the option of corn or flour tortillas, but it wasn't clearly mentioned that the flour tortillas cost an extra $1.50, and they are very small. I didn't even need tortillas, and I still ended up being charged for flour when I didn't choose that option, which was frustrating. Another issue was the timing of the food. We were a group of five, and our meals came out at different times instead of all together, which made it hard to enjoy the meal as a group. Also, they don't offer complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning like most Mexican restaurants. You do have the option to order them as an appetizer, but it's something to be aware of if you're expecting that standard. As for the food, the flavor was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really stand out compared to other Mexican restaurants. One more thing to be aware of is how the bill is set up. They include a 20% gratuity for larger parties, which is fine, but then taxes are applied after that total. So you end up paying tax on both the food and the gratuity, which makes the final bill feel much higher. That didn't sit right with me. Overall, this place feels more about the experience and atmosphere than the taste of the food. There are plenty of other spots with better flavor and more affordable prices for a regular visit, so this feels more like a once-in-a-while or special occasion kind of place.
