An expensive taco place with $5 tacos with little seating inside (self serve) and counter style ordering. There is extra seating outside and the food is brought to you as well as taken away. I tried the crispy shrimp taco, fish taco, gobernador, costra taco, and the Sonoran taco. The shrimp, fish, and gobernador tacos are bland in different ways. The fish is just straight up bland with a lot of pickled red onions but not a lot of other flavors to help the fish stand out. Not sure if they went light on the crema but it needed something else. The shrimp taco's guajillo salsa overpowers the shrimp and I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor. The gobernador has a soy sauce salsa on the taco which sounded interesting but tasted just like soy sauce and grilled fish which I wasn't a fan of. The costra taco needed some kind of salsa to cut the greasiness from the cheese as there is only cheese, onion, and meat on there. The Sonoran taco was pretty good but a bit too salty. As a side note, the water they have is absolutely awful. It tastes so bad I spit it out and didn't drink any of it. It is truly some of the most horrendous water I've ever had the displeasure of tasting. I hesitate to call it potable. It must be a war crime to serve water this bad even to prisoners. The spot seems to have nice vibes but I wouldn't come back for the food especially looking at the price.
Some of the best Mexican food I've had!! Really enjoyed everything we tried, all of the tacos were good, and so were the fried pork skins. I loved their horchata, and their strawberry horchata was so unique and delish! It's a cute spot too, and staff was very friendly!
This place is the best for taco Tuesdays. All day happy hour makes this spot super affordable and the tacos are incredible. They just got added on InKind as well so you can use your rewards here! Paid parking is limited out front so recommend walking from E Portland St.
A friend and I came here to catch up and we enjoyed the affordable aspect of this place as well as the vibe! Since this establishment offered various types of tacos, we tried a bit of different kinds and overall enjoyed the differences in taste and texture. Specifically, I thought the sonoran taco was very innovative as it involved two kinds of salsa to provide a color juxtaposition, which also offered the carne asada different experiences in flavor. I also enjoyed the costra taco which was made with caramelized cheese over it, offering a pleasant fried flavor on the tortilla itself. The barbacoa taco was very juicy since the beef was very well-made. In contrast, the carne asada taco was a bit dry for some reason, and relied on the avocado salsa for both taste and juiciness. The fish taco didn't have enough fish, and had a lot of batter around the fish along with excessive pickled onion pieces. Since this spot is located in a very nice area, the arts district, I would recommend it to anyone that's around the area. It'd be a nice lunch after visiting the Phoenix Art Museum, which is only a mile away from here!
So good! Awesome happy hour you can't beat. Service is fast! Love coming here before a concert or sports game or before bar hopping around Roosevelt row. The food is great and I always try to get something new each time
Really cool spot in the Ro Ro district! Stopped in today with a buddy and it was a great experience! We came in when happy hour was happening and good thing we snagged a table at 5:30pm, because shortly after, the place was full. I wasnt very hungry as I just had a snack with another friend so only got some chips, salsa, guacamole and also a michelada (they use Tecate light for the beer). The place is pretty busy and trendy and lot of people in here. Was a bit loud as I was literally shouting to my friend. Salsas were good, michelada was good and my friend said his quesadilla with beef was very good. Overall, a great place to chill and hang out on a Friday evening! I'd definitely come back!
The environment is really fun and lively. Louder music with an energetic vibe. Unfortunately they only have pastor tacos on Wednesdays which are amazing! Their margaritas are definitely worth it and have a good amount of booze so you'll only need one to two. We went before the baseball game. It was fairly crowded so if you want a table you have to get there and kind of wait for one to become available which I don't love but I get it because their food is so good. I just wish they did service instead of going to the counter to order because waiting in line makes it much more crowded. There are only 7 tables inside with one being a good size for a group of 5 or more. Their veggie taco is my favorite so if you like sweet potatoes give it a try. Next time I'm there I want to try the ceviche. Kinda pricey for the portions but the flavor is there for sure.
I will forever come here every time I make to Phoenix/Scottsdale. Taco shells are made in house and make the tacos elite. They make my tacos just how I ask every time I come, and I make changes! Most recently was last night after a rough rental car situation (avoid NU check those reviews eek) and the bartender was awesome. Quick service, friendly and took my order perfectly. Strawberry lemonade is my absolute favorite and if you know me I'm a lemonade girl. Tacos are perfect, the meat has virtually no weird fat on them like most tacos do. Both carne and chicken. Delicious. I'm here for five days this trip and I'm going back for sure, may end up at the Tempe location too. I should mention the great atmosphere and getting I got, a "welcome in" from the ladies behind the counter as well as the bartender I wish I got his name. Thank you for making my night :)
This place is so good! I was looking for awesome tacos, and I'm so glad I stopped here. They have an outdoor patio and plenty of seating inside- tables and at the bar. This is a casual spot where you order at the counter and they'll bring the food out to you. They also open at 11:00 and by 11:10 every table was taken. So I'd recommend stopping in when they open or waiting. I ordered the fish tacos, and they were the best tacos I've had. They had huge pieces of fish, cabbage, salad, and more. I could barely hold them. I should've used a fork, but I made it work. I highly recommend stopping here for great tacos!
Had a friend recommend we check this spot out for an all day happy hour on Tuesday and we were so glad we did! We sat right at the bar and everyone was very friendly. I had a regular margarita and it was the perfect refreshing drink after a long day. We also tried each of the tacos on happy hour. The chicken was my favorite but I loved the crispy shrimp too. Ambiance is cool and casual plus they have a patio. Will definitely be back!
We came across this spot while strolling around downtown PHX. It had a steady stream of customers and felt lively and fun. The prices were reasonable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The restroom is shared with neighboring restaurants, so you'll need to ask for a key. Thankfully, there's a handwashing station right outside if you just need to wash your hands. Review on the food: Chicharrones - Just okay. The guac was made with real avocado but lacked flavor. Chicken & Barbacoa Tacos - My friends really enjoyed them. Crispy Taco - Super messy but pretty good. Carne Asada Quesadillas - Tasty. I liked it. Horchata - DELICIOUS! I really want to try their other house-made agua frescas and margaritas next time. Desserts- I think it was a tres leches with coconut - yummy, not too sweet. Overall, we had a great time hanging out in their outdoor patio. Good food, great vibes. I'd definitely go back for a light bite.
Hunted for some tacos and found some tacos. This is a pay first and eat next kind of establishment where it was super casual with water canteen for you to get your own water as well as plastic utensils. The weather was nice enough to enjoy seating outside in the patio area. Selections chosen: -Chips, salsa, and guacamole appetizer to start -shrimp ceviche- mexican wild shrimp, cucumber, cilantro, tomato, avocado with chips. Nice starter. -Fish tacos- beer battered fish, morita crema, cabbage, pickled onion, and pico de gallo. I enjoyed this taco. -Chicken - adobo style with avocado, sour cream and pico de gallo. -Carnitas (pork)- with onion and cilantro -Carne asada (beef) - avocado salsa, onion, cilantro -crispy tacos (with minced shrimp inside and then topped with tomato salsa, pickled onion, avocado and cabbage). I loved the first crispy taco. And then when I had my 2nd crispy taco where it was not enjoyable anymore. I only was able to eat 1/3 of this until I had the most spiciest pepper seed in my mouth that ruined the rest of the experience and had to load with 3 cups of water with watery eyes and burning mouth. I wasn't hungry anymore. A nice way to curb an appetite. -strawberry horchata- yummy - tres leches de coco - something was lacking as it wasn't as tasty as if it was missing an ingredient. I would like to come back to try the crispy tacos but will need to make sure it doesn't have the spiciest seed as I don't believe there was an indication for something super spicy.
I enjoyed Taco Chelo. This review is really a 3.5. There are several taco spots in the area, and this spot was close to my Airbnb, so I decided to try. It was good. My order was wrong as I asked for no cream or cheese, but overall, it was good. I did like the salad with the pumpkin seeds so much so that I came back for the same salad the next day. The salad is a bit overpriced for the amount of food you receive, maybe it's just a small to go portion, but it was different and good enough. Might be worth checking out if you're in the area.

Saltiest fish tacos I've ever had. Never had a fish taco that couldn't be eaten. I left n still can taste it. Worst fish tacos!! Don't order this. Friendly service & nice they have complimentary water. I'm from LA so staying hydrated is good. Btw we are driving back to LA as I'm writing this n my sis just puked from those tacos. Don't order this!!! Margarita was good. Kudos to the bartender. read more

Super small inside and not very many tables but very cute. You order at the front register and then they bring you your food. I got the mango margarita which was really good and chips, salsa, and guacamole and quesadilla (one just cheese and one with carne asada) as an app. The chips and salsa and guacamole were okay. The salsas were spicy and had a nice kick and the guacamole was okay. They're served in a super small container which I wish there was more guacamole. The quesadillas were amazing!! The cheese was so good and perfectly melted. I got the chilaquiles as my meal which was a Saturday special which were good but the sauce wasn't that spicy. I will be back to try the tacos! read more

A great place to come for happy hour, which is everyday from 3pm-6pm! The chicken tacos were loaded and amazing but our fave was just a classic bean&cheese burrito! The interior is cute with plenty of seating. One star off because their green salsa is straight salsa water. read more

I can't rave enough about how wonderful, thoughtful, and helpful everyone at Taco Chile was last Saturday night. With very little warning, our friends gathered on the back porch to celebrate a 40th birthday party and the staff were beyond accommodating. From reserving our tables at a walk-up and seat yourself restaurant, to having several of our own servers, our own water jug, our own personal service, and a 40th birthday pudding for the birthday boy, I can't thank Taco Chile enough for their tremendous customer service last weekend. If you are looking for a fabulous time with some awesome people, then go to Taco Chile and enjoy. read more

Good fast Mexican. I tried multiple things and suggest you do too. The vibe is lunch style but I think the cooking is deeper and could expand to something more in depth in the future. Rolled...with protein of choice was great. Anything with cheese and Poblano with dealers choice of protein is good with Me. Try this, they are actually cooking semi fast Mexican food. Nice. read more
Ambiance check. vibe check. music check. food check check check. Drinks too. Oh yea, we are at the right place. I love trying tacos in every city I visit. I was recommended this place by a local. I was a bit skeptical, but I was surprised. I came for the sonorian taco which honestly is just green salsa, meat, and cabbage. Nothing special. I really enjoyed the prickly pear margarita. I did have one comment about the place. There really is no signage. I was aimlessly walking around looking for it. read more

The staff was very nice and inviting, nice atmosphere. I ordered a fish taco that didn't have much flavor but their red salsa helped with that. Also had a chicken quesadilla which was flavorful and the house margarita was delicious. The drinks are really small for the price but you can definitely taste the alcohol in it. There was tons of flies everywhere but I'm guessing that was due to the windows being open. The weather was nice so I understood the open windows. Will try again read more

Okay, our household is a huge fan of fresh tortillas and bomb tacos.. and Taco Chelo does BOTH. My husband is Guatemalan and loved the fact that abuela is on the grill ensuring the tortillas come out brilliantly! The food was tasty, tasty, tasty. The carne asada and chicken tacos were both flavorful and came with the typical fixings - cotija cheese, lime, avocado crema. I will say the chicken was better in my opinion! I also ordered their Jardin Salad and that was yummy. They perfectly mix the dressing over the lettuce and kale alongside chopped avocado and these cute little tortilla strips. If you have a craving for tacos and are by Roosevelt Row, PLEASE STOP IN - you won't regret it. read more

Been my second time her sporadically over the past year. Food is okay, drinks okay. I'm mainly trying to understand how you have a student discount but not a military discount and seemed off put by me asking. Now the food portions are small so be prepared to order 1-2 extra tacos or quesadillas because you won't get full. My quesadillas actually came less than Luke warm so just know what you're getting into. They've got expensive rent so expensive food. Just trying to support them but it's not a place that is a regular for me. read more

My wife and I decided we needed a happy hour after a long day of work on Friday and stopped by Taco Chelo. After the first round of Margaritas and tacos, happy hour turned into dinner, with a second helping of tacos and a side of chips, salsa and guacamole! This is definitely going to be a must stop for us when we're back in Phoenix. read more

Oaxaca mule and bean burrito (not pictured) were AMAZING. Tried 5 or 6 things and the menu and tbh can't go wrong. But definitely do yourself a favor and get a cocktail while your here. read more
Great vibes + great tacos = solid I came in as a following to the amazing reviews and left with the need to leave my own 5-star review. I ordered both of their special tacos (al pastor and can't remember the name of the other but it was delicious; it had carne asada, cheese, caramelized onions, avo salsa) and their fish taco. The meat in all of tacos were cooked well, marinated well, and complimented all of the toppings perfectly. I loved that the fish wasn't too fried/oily for a breaded fish and loved the pickled veg on top. I would definitely come back if I came back to the area! read more

Absolutely divine! The place was packed but seats opened up rather quickly. Make sure to enter through the alley in the back to order your meals as it gets cramped up front. Tacos: Sonoran - spicy but flavorful Barbacoa - WOWWWW! We ordered more of these Carne asada - this was good but not my favorite, the meat felt dry Chicharones Horchata - MUST GET! They have a strawberry flavor too Spicy margarita - spicy but not overwhelming where you couldn't drink it read more

Taco Chelo is a convenient place to grab tacos on a Saturday night out in Downtown Phoenix. The chicken taco was surprisingly juicy. Chips and salsa/guac and Jardin Salad were okay. read more

I came here for Taco Tuesday and they had $2 tacos! Which I thought was a fair price. The three you could choose from that day was carnitas, chicken, or steak with fried cheese. I ordered 1 chicken, and 2 steak with fried cheese. The chicken had pico de gallo and cotija cheese. That one was okay. But the steak one was amazing! It was nice fajita style steak with melted cheese and a layer of fried cheese on top! On the side they give you some cucumber slices and salsas, their red salsa tasted like it had a hint of bbq which went very well with the tacos. It's definitely worth coming here on Taco Tuesday! read more

Fav taco place by far quick, friendly and consistently delicious! This is my go to recommendation for tacos in phx! read more
Life goals: Treat everyday like Taco Tuesday. To achieve this effort, yes... I have dedicated my life to try all the best tacos. Taco Chelo has served its purpose in helping me achieve that feat. Haha. The moment I took a bite out of the fish taco, I started speaking Spanish fluently. And I barely passed Spanish 102 in high school. The flavors here were BANGIN. From the tacos to the salsa... everything was mouth-watering. We each ordered 3, and a drink. Once we started eating, it's like we forgot the drinks were there. I think we even forgot about each other. We were fixed on our tacos and our tastebuds. Fact. The good thing about my life-quest is that I'm totally down to try the good taco spots more than once. So yes, I see myself coming back here again. And again. And again. Make the smart decision. Come here and order tacos. Whether it's a Tuesday, or not. You won't be disappointed. You're welcome. read more

Best thing about this place is that it's a cool hangout spot with great music! Get the Sonoran Taco- a little spicy but so good. All others are just regular. 3 stars because it can be annoying to find parking AND food is good but inconsistent- on some occasions food is fresh (evenings) and on some food is cold (weekday afternoons). Probably won't be back for a while unless it's to hang with friends. read more
(Lyrics - Lady Gaga - Paparazzi) We are the crowd We're coming out Got my appetite on, it's true Need that picture of you It's so magical It'd be so Instragramable Salsa and limes Sonoran Tacos Not sure what's in it But this photo of you It don't have a price Ready for those Frijoles Cause you know Chef Suny I I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you feed me Taco-Taco Chelo Suny, there's no other superstar You know that I'll be At Taco-Taco Chelo Promise I'll be kind But I won't stop until that bite is mine Baby, you'll be famous Chase you down until you feed me Taco-Taco Chelo Art and tacos, I didn't even know it could be such a thing. Taco Chelo definitely has it's charm and Barrio feel with a modern vibe to it's eccentric look. Street tacos made with hand-made tortillas is a winner in my books! Doughy with a strong hint of maize is some love to my palates. This place keeps it simple so I went for the favorites Al Pastor; which is only served on Wednesday and the Carne Asada. If its not broken, don't try to fix it stupid! The Al Pastor came along with fresh chopped onions, cilantro, and pineapples. There's definitely something about marinated pork topped with onions and cilantro with a cold beer that puts me in a vibe. Puts you right south of the border on the beach and perfect for the hot summers! The Carne Asada is topped with onions, cilantro, tomatillo, and avocado salsa. Fresh to the bite with a bit of kick! Along with your tacos were your red and green salsa which had some bite, but not enough to ruin your day haha! In the end, Taco Chelo gets to the point and not frills or thrills just good ass tacos! I would say this place has contentions with best tacos in town! Enjoy! read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon, was a little crowded. Tacos were sub par. But then again I'm very picky on Mexican food. The meat seemed ok but not what I expected. Chips were no better some brand at the grocery store. It was clean, staff seemed like they were working but didn't want to be here. Almost robot like no one was smiling. The vibe was a little off. I probably wouldn't come back. The convenience factor is cool but the lack of great customer service and food is desirable. read more
