I dined here twice during my stay at The Club Quarters Hotel in downtown Houston. For dinner, I had their District burger. I ordered it cooked medium but it came out slightly pink in the middle. Regardless, it was a juicy, delicious and huge burger! Their burgers also come with a side of steak fries. I was full and ready for my marathon the next morning. I also had the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich for breakfast a few days later. The scrambled egg and thick cut bacon was delicious but there was barely any mozzarella. The sandwich also came with a side of fruit with a few pieces that looked a bit too over ripe. Service was fast and friendly but at one point our waitress forgot to bring a water. I had an excellent experience at this restaurant! The menu offered plenty of great options, and everything we tried was delicious. Yes, the prices were a bit on the higher side, but it makes complete sense considering the location it's in a highly desired area and incredibly convenient. The quality of the food and the variety available absolutely justified the cost. I will say BE AWARE they already add a tip! Overall, a fantastic spot with great flavors and a solid selection. This very understated restaurant has incredibly good food. It can be reached from the street or inside the Club Quarters Hotel. We liked dinner so much, we decided to have breakfast there the next morning. For dinner we had the mahi piccata. It had the inventive twist of adding mushrooms and was served on a bed of wonderful, tasty pasta. And under shareable the crab cake. Which was one (Big) crab cake served on shredded greens with a remoulade sauce. I think it would make more sense to have made 4 to 6 smaller ones. But, boy was it good and I shared exactly one bite. Delicious espresso martinis are hard to come by but this place excelled at making them! My husband and I stopped by to have a drink and say at the bar. This is a small intimate restaurant nestled in the side of a hotel. Our waitress was very prompt and nice. She assumed I wanted a margarita which I thought was hilarious. I am such a stickler for espresso martini's. Sometimes they are made too warm for my liking but it was perfect. For my entree the Parmesan crusted chicken called to me. It was delicious, very flavorful. I wanted to order another. I would say this is a great place to grab a drink & bite after work or to have an intimate conversation. My family and I have experienced multiple racially motivated microaggressions while attempting to dine at this restaurant, which is unfortunately connected to the hotel we're currently staying at. Despite giving them more than one opportunity, the ongoing pattern of discrimination has been deeply disappointing and unacceptable. Yesterday, we went down for breakfast, which had been comped by the hotel manager. When we arrived at the restaurant, neither the waiter nor the waitress greeted or acknowledged us. Instead, they both shrugged their shoulders and told us to seat ourselves. A few moments later, white guests who arrived after us were immediately greeted and seated by those same staff members. The disparity in treatment was blatant. The white woman working at the bar rolled her eyes as we entered and deliberately turned her head away. Yet just moments later, she smiled and warmly greeted a white man who walked in behind me--offering him coffee and asking what else he'd like. When she finally came over to our table, her cold and dismissive attitude continued. My 3-year-old daughter, clearly picking up on the uncomfortable energy, didn't want to engage with her. Rather than reflect on how her energy may have affected a child, the waitress looked confused and blamed my daughter's silence on being "distracted." She then walked over to her Hispanic male coworker and said, "Make sure they pay"--even though our meal had already been comped by the hotel manager. This same male server rolled his eyes and treated us with open disdain throughout every interaction. He made no effort to be polite, welcoming, or professional. My mother had to leave our table in the middle of what should've been a peaceful meal just to report our treatment to the hotel manager. The manager apologized and assured her they would handle it. Today, out of concern for how we might be treated again--or whether our food might be tampered with--my mother decided to place a takeout order instead of dining in. When she arrived to pick it up, she noticed a food container on the counter and politely asked the same white waitress from the day before if it was her order, providing her name and avoiding touching anything that wasn't hers. The waitress screwed up her face and asked condescendingly, "Did you even pay for it?" My mother calmly responded, "How else would I have an online order unless I paid for it?" Only then did the waitress realize how inappropriate her behavior had been and attempted to backtrack--but by then, the damage was already done. PS: With this blatant level of disrespect and lackluster service I wouldn't even give them 1 star but Yelp is requiring that I do so, in even order to post my review. read more

After finding a table, our server wiped it down advertantly leaving behind a wet, musty smell. I think the towel she used was dirty? Also, the food was basically thrown together and lacked real flavor. It did look like they were short-staffed so perhaps that's why our wait was so long, but that doesn't mean our server can't ask if we want our coffee refilled when she does come by. Toast is saturated in grease from the what I suspect is the griddle or they just soak it in grease/old fake butter The Belgian waffle came out with the waffle being tuff and chewy like it was microwaved. This is really a nice little hidden gem. I had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly. I wouldn't quite describe the rice as risotto, but it was still cooked nicely and had wonderful flavor. Came about a week or so after the grand opening so it's still fairly new here. The one bartender / server who was covering the bar tops and all tables did the best he could with the assistance of another server so I will give him that. The place definitely has a lot of potential once they are fully up and running and staffed. I'd say remembering the small things as far as laying down cutlery napkins and water so when food comes people aren't without things. Again wasn't terrible , but I definitely see the potential here once fully staffed and up and running. read more

Checked out of my hotel early to get brunch before heading to a wedding. Arrived and it was clearly a "seat yourself" restaurant. Chose a low top instead of the bar given I had a suitcase and backpack. Without prompt, one acknowledged I was at the table. No one. I waited 20 mins and watched other tables get served. Figured they were running behind and likely due to staffing so opted to be patient. After that time passed I went out of my way to make unavoidable eye contact with a server who had been servicing multiple tables and walking past me. He passed and on this next trip asked if I had been helped. He brought a menu and said "she will be with you shortly" Nothing happened for another 15 mins and I watched the only other two servers (presumable one of them was the "she" I was waiting for) clean dirty tables. Greet new tables- that arrived after me. When the server and one of the "shes" walked by I inquired on the wait. The lady says it's not her section but she would take my order. I ordered a to go water and food the water came. Ultimately I realized it was approaching an hour and I couldn't wait for the food thay was maybe going to come. I left. Great service and food was pretty good. I had the veggie omelet which had lots of great veggies. I was surprised by the spicy peppers, but they were tasty. When I mentioned the crab cake was burnt she said they "always serve it like that" and didn't even apologize, then proceeded to ask how i wanted to pay. I just came back from breakfast to write this review because it was that bad. This is one of those that if I could give 0 stars, I 100% would. That being said, I paid $17 for the bed and breakfast. For a $17 meal, I'm expecting food to be as good as a place like Snooze A.M. Eatery or another similar place (if you know what I mean), but actually, I found that Snooze is cheaper when I eat there!! So with their proud prices..here's what I received... I got the short stack of pancakes with what's supposed to be sausage, eggs, and potatoes. I asked if I could substitute the eggs with a fruit cup since I don't eat eggs. They obliged yet charged me $2 for the "upgrade" which I said was fine because what else am I supposed to do?Now it's a $19 meal. We were given two tiny glasses of orange juice that can be drunk in three or four sips and the waitress offered us more and told us it would be free refills. We drank it again once they were refilled and asked for one more refill for our meals, and they said no, that you only get one free and that's if you don't get coffee. EVEN THOUGH I'M PAYING $17 AND THE GLASS IS EVEN TINY FOR A CHILD! This was brought to our attention after the waitress misled us, and if we knew before, we would have waited for the refill with our meal. When the food finally arrived after a long wait, I didn't get my sausage. I heard another guy at another table also didn't get his potatoes that he ordered as well, so apparently it's a common occurrence with them. They evidently don't like writing down the orders. My $2 fruit cup consisted of minuscule pieces of cantaloupe, honeydew, and two even tinier pieces of pineapple THAT WAS SO HARD I COULDN'T EVEN BITE THROUGH! The sausage was like a chewy disk of leather. The potatoes were barely seasoned and so dry that even ketchup couldn't make them a little more moist. The syrup that came with the pancakes was in a little plastic sauce cup and was filled halfway. Even one filled up all of the way wouldn't cover both of the pancakes. The pancakes were also dry and mediocre. I honestly think my favorite part of the meal was the small sliced strawberry placed on top of the pancakes. That was the only thing that wasn't a total disappointment. During our meal, the waitress would come over, say "you okay?" really quickly and before I even got a chance to say anything, ran away. Because we bought the breakfast vouchers from the hotel, we complained to the hotel staff in which they didn't do a thing about it (and I really didn't expect them to, but they were lovely ). I'm going to speak to the manager of the restaurant about this at checkout, but I wanted to give all guests staying at Club Quarters or just people coming in from the outside world the full truth of what it's like. So if you like tiny pieces of fruit that won't fill you up, unseasoned meat and potatoes, dry flavorless pancakes, two sips of juice, bad service, and paying unreasonable prices for a brunch from hell, by all means please give all of your business to Table 7 Bistro!! Otherwise, please beware of them and go make yourself a cappuccino in the hotel. At least it's better quality than the **** they serve you. read more

We were staying at the rusk house hotel and stopped by for breakfast and dinner, completely out of convenience after our breakfast experience. The wait staff was inattentive and blatantly rude, there was a pile of dirty dishes on the table next to us, and it remained there. The two waitresses walked past us without even glancing our way multiple times, when we tried to get their attention, one ignored us and the other looked stressed and unprepared. The bar is equally unprofessional without any proper service. The breakfast was good, fluffy pancakes and perfect eggs, I really wished the service matched the food. For dinner we decided to just pick up but the same waitress just walked away without acknowledging me or my obvious pick up order on the counter. We chose the burger and chipotle chicken, both were decent. Management should look into service, the place could be so much more but without good service they will remain a place to go out of convenience instead of a thriving restaurant: pick up if you have to but I don't recommend eating there read more

We stayed at the hotel for 4 days so we ate and drank here a few times. First off the dinner service is great (the food and bartender- Alisha) our bartender was amazing, she was personable and remembered our drinks the next night. The dinner menu was good (maybe a little pricey but it's in a hotel) The breakfast service was not great. My husband liked the food but I thought it was bland and not worth the money at all. All in all if you're looking for dinner or a beer in the evening then I'd go again but avoid the breakfast service. When we walked in no one acknowledged us we were just sitting there. Finally she ask us if we wanted a drink and we told her we were picking up an order. Because the order wasn't placed there was no way foe her to find it and instead of her apologizing she just pointed at the young man and said he will take care of you and started attending to someone else. This place is in the lobby of the Club Quarters hotel. They have dine in, to-go, and room service delivery for the hotel. There is a bar in the center of the dining room. The dining room is pretty small but it was never crowded at any point throughout the weekend. They have a few tables outside on the sidewalk but they are at the same place as the valet parking so the ambience is not very relaxing. The staff was very friendly. I was greeted and served immediately upon seating. They were very helpful with the menu options and they were very accommodating with special requests. I ordered to-go and it was ready within 10 minutes. They were attentative throughout the process and they offered water as I waited. They have a breakfast menu and lunch/dinner. I did not have anything from the breakfast menu but the dishes I saw looked and smelt very good. I ordered some steak fries and a bison burger. Being that bison is extremely low in fat I ordered it cooked medium rare to avoid it from being dry and they cooked it perfectly. The patty was a bit small for the overall composition of the burger and it did not have much seasoning. I asked for my burger to not include sauce and add grilled onions. The onions ended up being thick slices of raw red onion and it was a bit overwhelming. The lettuce might have been spinach or arugula which I did not think worked very well on the burger because it was a bit bitter for the mild bison and it quickly wilted. I would have preferred a more crispy mild lettuce such as romaine, green leaf, or even just iceberg. The bun was very good but it was very large compared to the rest of the burger. Overall, the burger was acceptable but nothing special and I would look at other options instead. The steak fries were fantastic. They had the perfect amount of crisp but the interior was still soft. They were seasoned well with salt and they were not oily. I think the fries were by far the best part of the meal. Overall, this is a nice place to have a meal if you are staying in downtown Houston. The first time I came here I had no problems with food or service. The second time was completely different. There were no problems with the food, but it was the service that really made the experience regrettable. I walk in with my group and we are a barely acknowledged by the hostess and waiter who are sitting down having a nice chat with themselves. We are seated and having a child with us, ask for a high chair several times from our waiter. My friend got so fed up she actually went to the back room and found a high chair on her own. Short and sweet, guys- BF raved about the Kobe beef burger. We went here for dinner. He ordered the Kobe beef burger. I did not. I had major food envy. Major. He asked for it on a wheat bun. Caramelized onions and their own "dispread" (mayonnaise-y sauce). So yummy. I had two bites and wanted more. I did not make the same mistake again when I convinced my coworkers to come here for lunch. (Yes, it's downtown, convenient walk from my office! Score! There is too much good food around here, no wonder I gain weight). I was ready with Starbucks in hand at 3pm to combat the major food coma that Alice T. mentioned.
