Eric's has an excellent continental breakfast with a very comprehensive spread of everything from fruit, cereal and yogurt to scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, breakfast potatoes, and oatmeal with craisins, granola clusters, brown sugar and maple syrup. There are great berry offerings as part of the fruit (that went fast and was taken away), and various pastries such as danishes with fruit filling, muffins, croissants and the sort, bagels, bread for toasting and English muffins; the toaster wasn't working but it was soon replaced, and the beverages are also great, such as OJ, hot chocolate and a mean unsweet iced tea. I left and said I would return but even after they cleared things up they allowed to reseat again. Very awesome breakfast spot so if you're staying at the UH Hilton, I highly recommend it! read more

Stayed at the hotel - they give you $30 a day to use at the restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner! During the stay we tried a few different dishes, the turkey club and burger were fantastic, and both the sweet potato and regular fries were crispy. But today I got the short rib - my goodness gracious it was one of the best meals I have had in quite a while. The meat totally fell apart, there was barely any fat, I substituted in the mashed potatoes which were so creamy and the Brussels sprouts were to die for. read more

On the campus of UH (inside the Hilton Hotel), Eric's serves amazing food and drinks. My favorite at lunch is the Eric's Burger, or their Blackened Salmon, and their Halal Curry Chicken! So good. The waitstaff is always hospitable and service is always great! I've never had their dessert until this week when I came there for a business meeting/ happy hour and birthday celebration. Arrived as a 2-top at Eric's last night to get some dinner before a 7:30 show. There weren't many customers and we were seated near the bar at 6:15ish and put our order of Asian salad and a blacked salmon within 10 minutes. Then we waited almost an hour for nothing. After seeing 2 tables who arrived after us receive their plates, I asked for an update at 7:00 and the bartender said the plates were on their way. At 7:15, I asked him to cancel the order and we left. Very disappointing to wait for so long without any dinner. read more

I eat breakfast there every time I stay at the Hilton, the bacon is absolutely outstanding and the eggs are perfect, regardless of how you order them. Plenty of coffee too. I am a professor at UH and was very disappointed with the food they served to my guests visiting from other universities yesterday( Nov 9, 2023). They found their lunch cold, tasteless, and stale. Nice restaurant inside the Hilton U of H. My server tonight was Makayla- 5 stars go out to her! She was friendly and very attentive. I came here to dine on a Sunday night, wasn't really hungry so I got something off the apps and a cup of soup. I tried the crab cake with slaw and for $14, I would think serving it with 2 crab cakes would be a good deal but it was only single. On the menu it said it was a single jumbo lump crab so I thought that sounded good but I didn't see any lump on my crab. The saving grace on this app was the delicious sriracha- garlic aioli and the apple ginger slaw. Presentation was very nice though. The tomato bisque soup was good, not great. Would like to try their breakfast but woke up late. Maybe I'll come back and try again next time I'm in the area. read more

I go here for lunch and if super easy to get a reservation. I like that you can make reservations online without the hassle. I'd say their food is quiet tasty, but on certain dishes portions run on the smaller side. I love their appetizer of chips and like a sour cream dip. Or something to that affect. I love their chicken and sausage gumbo!!! As it DE-licious and as it should be....seeing as though the chief that brought it back onto the menu is from Louisiana! I rated Eric's a 3 only because of portion, limit of set menu (not large) and inconsistency of customer service from waitstaff. I ate here two evenings and both experiences were excellent. Beyond that, prices were fantastic - no dinner entree over $18, but with quality ingredients and expert preparation that you'd expect at twice the price. I went early on my second evening and ran into the head chef, who was relaxing at the bar with a couple waitstaff. He was very willing to chat and showed that he's clearly committed to excellence. I asked him how he could afford to provide such good food for such modest prices. I won't reveal his secret, but he affirmed his commitment to top quality ingredients and intimated that the costs get covered and it works out. If I lived in Houston, I'd eat here regularly. Menu is quite limited, but since the menu I saw was quite different from others pictured here, I'd guess that the menu changes from time to time. read more

The food was fair but the venue of course was well suited for a Restaurant run and owned by UH and The Hilton. As I recall me and my friend came here after her induction to one of the Honor societies in the school and had a light but good Dinner. I had the Grilled Hanger steak cooked to a medium rare, and they had the Cappellini Primavera and the Grilled Salmon. We were in the area for a show at the performance hall. Food was good. Service and staff were the issue. We stood at the hostess stand for several minutes without being greeted. Once seated they provided their one page food menu but no drink menu. I asked for the drink menu. We ordered our food when the water was brought out. The drink menu was brought about 5 minutes after the water. No staff approached our table again until they brought out our appetizer and entree together over 20 mins later. Took over 5 mins to get a dessert menu as well. They were apologetic about the app and removed it from the ticket. Again the food was good, but I wouldn't come back. I have given this establishment many opportunities. The first was when a co worker found a push pin in her water. DANGEROUS! They did comp her meal. Today, was slightly better, but not the best. The waiter was not friendly. She did not smile nor was helpful. The food came out very quickly which gave me a red flag this food was not fresh. When I was almost complete with my meal, she rushed me in taking my plate when I still had food I was eating. She still took my plate and I had my little fruit bowl and had no where to place my fork. Once I was finished, my party of six had their plates removed and she ignored mine. She was trying to make a point, but my point is I will NEVER eat here again because of her unintelligent choice. The food is good but not exceptional, the service is usually decent but not extraordinary, but the location is great! I work at UH and Eric's is always the better option to Chick-fil-A. There's a variety of items--soups, salads, steaks, and seafood to choose from. I also hear that it's the go-to spot for students living in the dorms when they want something on the fancy side. Never seen one though. Like several folks have mentioned, much of the staff is composed of students so plan your time accordingly. The place itself is very clean and the prices are reasonable. OMG, the salmon risotto is to die for! Outstanding and the bread is made fresh in house and it's delicious for dipping in a side of the chimichurrri! Which, by the way, is made fresh too and is divine!! The wait staff are lovely as well! It is quite disappointing to realize that Eric's is the hotel restaurant for the Hilton at University of Houston and represents fine dining to outsiders coming to Houston. I can consistently describe all of my experiences at Eric's as AWKWARD. I've had several conversations with the waitstaff that was just filled with long pauses and awkward stares. I am not sure if it is the fact that students run this place and that they're are still learning how to properly greet/host people, but I just get the feeling they aren't very enthusiastic about being there. It makes the guests feel a bit uncomfortable. Aside from the service, the food is not bad. The fried calamari is a pretty good appetizer. The Eric's burger ($10) is not bad but the price is a bit steep if you ask me. The pasta with shrimp, tomatoes, and basil is a pretty good meal. Most of the entrees will cost you between $10-$15. However, I really feel it isn't worth the price--especially given the service. I will admit that the restaurant itself is fancy and pish posh, from the clean silverware to shiny glasses. But that isn't enough to have a satisfying dining experience. I do hope they make some improvements for the sake of those visiting UH. read more

I hate eating at restaurants on hotel properties because I'd rather go find something in the city but I must say, everything was really good! I had the Chicken Aoli with sweet potato fries and. Cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. The gumbo was very flavorful and the sweet potato fries were great as well. Only thing I could have done without is the avocado on the sandwich. Had a business trip to University of Houston and my hosts took me here for dinner and lunch the next day. Apparently it is the only reasonable restaurant on or near campus. Restaurant is in a Hilton, both run by the hospitality program on campus. Service was fine, if a bit slow which was odd because neither time it was very busy. Food was good had a salad for lunch and dinner a pasta dish. The presentation was appealing and flavors were good, not great for the price. It seems like they know they have the market cornered and so while it is a fine place, it's nothing spectacular. read more

This is a student ran restaurant at University of Houston. I attended my friend's graduation and she decided to have lunch at Eric's afterward. Service was great. They provide free rolls with olive oil and vinegar. I only give it 2 stars because of my food. I had the beef lettuce wraps that came with a side of lentil or tomato soup or a cup of fruit. I chose the lentil soup. Everything I had was bland, missing so much flavor. This was very disappointing since my friend said this place was great. I guess I picked the wrong dish on the menu. The price was decent -$11. The atmosphere is nice. I wouldn't return though based on the food. read more

Despite the torrential rains and flooding in the area, Eric's managed to provide me with great service and delicious vittles. The campus was relatively empty today, so I'm pretty sure there were call-outs from the staff, but you would have never guessed. I ordered the chicken sandwich on a croissant. It was huge. I could only eat half of it and though the adorable and crunchy shoestring fries were tasty, I was only able to eat a couple. I was a delightfully surprised when my waitress set a basket of complimentary freshly fried potato chips on the table. The chips had a slight dusting of something subtly spicy and was served with a creamy onion dip that tasted homemade. All in all it was a pleasant way to spend an hour; the host even made sure to seat me at a table that had access to a wall plug so I could get some homework done and then chased me down a long hallway to hand me the thermos I had accidentally left behind. Eric's is the restaurant located inside the University of Houston's Hilton Hotel on Central Campus. The restaurant is little known as the only entrance is from within the Hilton hotel itself. Although it looks classy inside (wood walls, flat-screen TVs, flashy menu & fancy looking bar) attire is casual and you get treated no differently in jeans and t-shirt than in a full business suit (I've seen both during my various dining experiences) The staff here is incredibly friendly and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. I've had a little bit of everything from the menu...I have to say, anything with STEAK in it is absolutely delicious! I've had the mushroom steak (I was mopping up the mushroom gravy with the mashed potatoes...mmmm) and the steak salad (you can ask for more of their yummy vinaigrette on the side). If you're here on a business trip or if you're just sick and tired of the food court at the University student center/UC Satellite, treat yourself to this hidden fusion-South American treasure...you won't be disappointed. read more

This is conveniently located on the UH campus. Dont let that turn you away as the typical student does not dine here. They are not missing much. They have a limited menu that includes just okay food. Mostly this place is for business meals as you are away from the general student population. I always stick to the american burger because you cant get a burger wrong. Please make sure to ask for a medium rare as a well done seems to always be WELL done! A bit on the dry side. I am always satisfied with this particular plate because it comes with all the right trimmings. Nothing spectacular but still good. I have seen other plates but not really impressive. This is my second time at Eric's restaurant. The first time was not amazing or special in any way, and that was fine. This time, it took them 20 minutes to acknowledge me and I got to observe them being rude and short tempered with the guests. As a student of the college that this hotel is attached to, I was so ashamed to see this. The waitress came to give me a check from someone else's table and I hadn't even ordered yet! When I told her it wasn't mine and that I was waiting to order she just walked away. As my order was to go, I left as soon as I got my food to go to my office and what happens when I take a bite? A hair! A very long hair had been cooked into the eggs and I'm not going back over there to fix it. I'm very unhappy with the managers and waitstaff of Eric's restaurant and I'm not sure if I'll ever be going back. read more

The plates are really inconsistent. Some days the food will be tasty and other days it's really off. I went in today during my lunch break and ordered the seared salmon. Half of the squash in my risotto was somewhat cooked and the other half was so undercooked I couldn't even cut through it. I told the waitress about it and she said she would talk to the cooks. I didn't ask them to remake the food because I didn't have any more time to waste. The manager came by and I also told him about the squash. I even tried to cut it in front of him to show him how hard it was and it flew off my plate. I didn't make a huge fuss about it because I still ate the salmon, but when I got my check, there wasn't even a discount. They didn't even remove the $3 lemonade. I asked the waitress for a discount NOT an entire meal comp and the manager came back and told me they couldn't do anything because I had eaten most of the food. He also said that next time I should say something beforehand and ask for it to be remade. I'm just not happy with how they handled the situation and again, the plates are so inconsistent that I don't feel like ever going back. read more

I have a friend that works at U of H and she suggested we meet here for lunch. I was immediately impressed with how nice this place is. The recent renovation of the U of H Hilton has really brought a more modern look to the lobby and restaurant. The lunch menu had numerous selections of simple yet elegant lunch options such as a entree salads, chicken, beef and pasta options. I opted for the seared tuna spinach salad. As soon as we were seated we were served some delicious fresh bread and I ordered a refreshing raspberry tea to drink. When the salad arrived it was not quite what I expected. I was asked by the server how I wanted the tuna cooked, in which I replied meduim rare, however the tuna seemed cooked all the way through. It was still tender and tasted nice, so it wasn't a deal breaker at all. The salad had great flavors and I ate every last bite. After our meal we had cappuccino and it was delicious! It was happy hour and we were on our way to a show and the host recommended to ge happy hour menu for something fast. So We took his advice. Well the waitress was clearly knew any bit awkward in her role. She took forever to get get around to making the drinks in fact she found it more important to wash her dirty glasses that were laying out before serving us. When my has been asked if we could get our drinks before the food I'm not sure that helped We did eventually get the food and ordered a sausage and Pepper flat bread and some empanadas. Both honestly were terrible and something like what you might throw together with left overs in your refrigerator. I think the presentation had a good effort and they look like it might be good. But the flavors were not there in the flat bread was really a pita with some toppings. I guess one could call that a flat bread. Overall nice facility physically. We have been coming here for years before or after the the theatre at the UH School of Drama and Dance. We have never been disappointed. The food is always quite good and the prices reasonable. What the waiters and waitresses may somewhat lack in terms of technical skills, they make up for in terms of friendliness and enthusiasm. On several occasions, I have coached our server on fine nuances of pouring wine. They were eager to learn and not one of the them was the least bit defensive. Eric's is a learning environment and that needs to be considered. The students are learning and thus are not at the same level as their professional counterparts in other establishments in the city. However, this is one of the charms of this establishment. Four stars are for the food and service, the fifth star is for the effort and enthusiasm. One evening whilst speaking to the chef (to thank him for a marvelous meal), he invited us to schedule with him a future dinner for which he cooked us an authentic Moroccan dinner, which was incredible. Houston is an outstanding city for dining, both in terms of food and service. I have dined at quality restaurants all over the world and have discovered that we get spoiled and think that Houston is the norm. People always want to speak to the manager when things are suboptimal, which I have done on occasion. My preference is to speak to the manager to thank him/her and their staff for a lovely meal, which I have done on far more occasions. Try and be understanding, particularly if you have never waited tables. If you go to Eric's with an understanding that it is, in essence, a classroom, you will have a much better experience. read more

Being at UH, Eric's is a really nice place. I've only dined here twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times, I've enjoyed my experience here. The staff is friendly and the setting is great. Upon my visits here, my friends and I have enjoyed many dishes. Some of the dishes I remember enjoying for lunch would have to be the Grilled Salmon Medallions and the Capelli D 'Angelo chicken pasta! Delicious. When I dined here for dinner, we ordered the calamari for appetizers. It was good. For main entrees, we had the shrimp scampi and crabcakes. Everything was satisfying! First impression: It looks like a nice little joint. The staff was very friendly. I see that other reviews have mentioned that the waitstaff is awkward. I'm not going to argue with that statement. Our waitress was very nice, but there were a few long pauses. They weren't enough to bother me, but I did notice them. I won't complain about the service because of the company I was with. I won't say much else about it, but two people at the table made it a little awkward for the waitress. Nonetheless, our waitress was very patient with us. We started with some appetizers: the empanadas and calamari. The calamari was very good; the empanadas were good but really small (especially for $7 or something like that). My friend and her husband ordered steaks (or something steak-like, I don't really remember). Another person at the table ordered a burger, and I got the salmon. The two steak people said their food was good, the burger guy said his was good, and my salmon was pretty good. Small portions for the salmon though. I'm giving three stars just because I think everything overall could have been a little better. Things weren't terrible, but I expected a little more from the restaurant because UH has the Hotel & Restaurant Management program. Also, the prices were a little high for me. The menu is creative and nice, the food fresh, the service good. First off, the service is terrible. We were sitting for about 10-12min before anyone said a word to us. We were looking around and seeing all these waiters go by, but not one said anything to us. Finally, who I assume is the manager, comes over and asks if we had been helped. I told him our situation, and he tried his best to help us out. He actually ended up waiting on us the whole night, which was great because I heard some of these waiters with their customers, and they sounded terrible and awkward. One of the waitresses knocked over a gentleman's wine glass AND water glass in one swoop. Spilled everything all over him. OOPS! In terms of food, it was decent. The other 3 in my party got the club sandwich and fries which were both very good. You better not screw up a club sandwich! I got their Tuna. It had this very thick tomato and black olive based sauce. Was not expecting a thick sauce like that. It tasted like it belonged on pasta. Just a little too thick for my taste. I ordered the tuna medium, but received it medium rare. However, the flavor was great! I can't emphasize that enough. I'm not sure how they cook it, but they're doing it right. It came with spinach and I believe mashed potatoes. Both were also delicious. I give it 3 stars because the service is terrible. If you see a table has been sitting for 10 minutes without any attention, at least go greet them and take a drink order! Even if you don't bring out their drinks, you can give the paper to their waiter. Help your coworkers out! We were there for a concert that was at UH.
