Good service at a great price! Although the atmosphere is very basic, they do a fantastic job on their manicure and pedicure. If you want nice looking nails and don't mind the bare-bone decor, give this place a try. I've gone here twice now for a full set (was traveling in between so just took them off) and Phil has done my nails both times. Couple thoughts: The acrylics were nice and thin, but incredibly sturdy/strong. My natural nails are VERY short/brittle (from years of acrylics) and I was really impressed with the strength it had. He took his time and did a very thorough job. A full set of acrylics were $25. I'm not sure what kind of top coat they used, but it dried INCREDIBLY quickly and I got no nicks!!! I love it! They do have a limited selection of polish colors other than the 100 shades of red (joke) so when I went back, I just brought something I had at home. This time (earlier today) I got the SNS nails instead - where they dip your nails in a powder rather than painting on the acrylic. It's much more breathable and easier on your nails and it was nice they suggested that. This was $35. I think they are very clean - it's always very quiet and I feel like they pay plenty of attention to their clients. I've seen them joking around with regulars and I appreciate the fact it's not just me sitting there listening to them speak in another language - they all speak English! :) All in all i really like it - just can't give it 5 stars since I would need to bring my own polish. read more

I made an appointment for same day, which after walking in on a Thursday evening I realized it was very quiet! You could more than likely do a walk up if you don't have a large group. I would suggest having people with you, I love getting my nails done but it did not feel like the people working there wanted to be there. I also prioritize kindness, because I know they go through a lot of bullshit, but the same did not seem true to them. There were a few moments where they would quite obviously point something out on my nails, and then all laugh. I also don't mind them speaking another language, it would be unfair of me to ask them to speak solely one language. But when it makes me feel bad about myself or as if they're making fun of me, it doesn't make me want to give my business again. The manicure is pretty and I have received several compliments on it. For a $30 shellac French tip, you get what you expect. It only lasted without a scratch for four days total, which is a bummer seeing as almost every other time I've gotten shellac at other salons they have lasted at least one week without a chip. The other red flag and the reasoning for two stars instead of three, is the nail tech nicked my cuticle. It bled a fair bit and stung as well, and she said nothing. No apology, not act to sanitize, nothing. When she noticed it I did see her eyes widen a bit but she just kept moving on. I kept a close eye on it the next few days and washed my hands several times after getting home, and there are zero signs of infection. All in all, if you want something simple and cheap that you only need to last a few days, this is an alright place to go if you live nearby. read more

This used to be my favorite nail salon. A six months ago, I would have given them 5 stars without hesitation and screamed accolades from the surrounding businesses' rooftops. Perhaps they are too busy, or just became accustomed to seeing my face and thought I'd go nowhere else. As a matter of fact, at one point I did try a new nail shop - only to come back and have them soak off the acrylics and start completely over. I swore I'd not cheat on them again. Over time, I found that my fills became thicker and that they were shaped unevenly on the top making one side thicker than the other. (The young girl who does fills is AMAZING!) The pedicures are great; they still use the razor to scrape callouses - which is hard to find. I'll still go there if my the new salon near my office is busy, but its no longer my first choice. Great for a quick fill or pedicure, and one of the better salons in Seattle, but if you're picky like me... keep a close eye on the process. read more

I stopped here to get a quick pedicure before getting a massage at Elements Therapeutic Massage next door. I was a little nervous about having enough time but they did a great job and I had plenty of time for my massage! The price is average for a pedicure ($22) but I got a great foot rub along with some exfoliation, lotion, and a hot towel on my shins and feet. I loved the foot massage but it may have been too hard for others. The girl who was working on me checked in multiple time to make sure I was ok with the depth she was using. As others have said, the decor is pretty bare bones but I haven't been to very many affordable nail salons where that hasn't been the case. I had been going to a place in lower Queen Anne for a while but after two bad fills I gave up. My mother recently moved to Phinney and started going to Carkeek Nails. We called for an appointment last Saturday morning. We were a bit late, and even though they were working on some girls when we got there they took us then and asked the girls who were walk-ins to wait due to our having an appointment. Not only were they friendly and engaging, they did a great job on my nails. The fill took no time at all, and when I accidentally bumped my pinkie they fixed it right away. I wasn't too impressed with the color choices as I was looking for spring looks, but it may be a bit early for that yet. Overall, I look forward to going back for my next fill. read more

I have been trying to find a good nail place in north Seattle, and I think I finally found it! They were fast, they did a great job - my nails look awesome and are nice and short just the way I like them. The guy who did my nails was really nice and personable, was very easy to understand and he listened to me when I told him how I wanted my nails. Some of the other reviewers said it was blah inside - and it was - if you want a fancy salon this is Not it. But when I look for a nail place I want one that does a good job, does it fast and is cheap. This place is my new nail place. A regular fill was $15. I did notice the one pedicure that was there was very fast, I too like a relaxing pedicure, so doubt I will get mine here. But I will definitely get my nails done here - they were great! read more

I bite my real nails and used to hate the idea of fake ones but they file them down until they look almost as thin as real nails. My only suggestion is to wait for the owner Michelle (?) or her lead nail person Lindsay. The guy isn't that good. They definitely work hard to give you what you want. read more

The worst experience ever! I had a really important event in the evening and a new set of nail wraps to apply to my nails and didn't want to risk ruining them so I followed some advise and went to the "professionals" for help. This was my first time every going to get a manicure and my nails done ever so I didn't know what to expect. First off, you should know that I pass this business every day on my way home from work and it is completely empty 90% of the time. I thought that this would be in my favor and I could do a walk in without an appointment. I walk into the empty salon and am greeted by a woman who barely speaks English as I try to simply find out if she knows how to do nail wraps. She studies the package "that has all of the instructions on the back" and declares "I can do this." I make sure she knows that this is an important day for me and I'm getting married. So I sit for the manicure and that went fine enough... unless you expect your nails to be treated gently and to have an even filing without jagged edges and strange angles. I had to point out multiple spots that were uneven and sharp. Then came the nail wraps... Nail wraps are stickers that a little heat makes them extra sticky. The real challenge is applying them evenly without bubbling. This woman applied them as if they were fake nails. She use super glue. If I hadn't been distracted by the TV for the first couple, I would have stopped her before the glue began... For those of you who don't know, super glue will destroy your nails and can lead to deforming the shape forever. I refuse to super glue and fake nails anymore after playing around with them over 10 year ago. Damage done, I let her continue. Who'd have thought that a "professional" couldn't get stickers to stick with super glue. Worse yet, instead of using the file with down stroked to cleanly remove the excess wrap she use nail clippers. By the time she was done my nails were half the length I walked in with and jagged and broken looking. She sat me down at the nail drying counter. 15 mins later, 3 pedicures walk in back to back (about 3 mins apart) and that was when things got worse. After another 15 minutes I look at my hands and 4 of the wraps are peeling off already. I call the lady over and she tells me to go home, wash my hands and come back then she can fix them... GO home? Wash my hands? Come back?.... Excuse me? A-freaking-mazing. Seriously?! I told her that I need them to last the night. She acts like it's a huge inconvenience to be bothered by her first customer and applies more glue and huffs "good?" at me. Then abandons me for the pedicures again. I wait for the glue to dry and after another 20 minutes I'm out of time. I didn't think such a simple procedure would take almost 2 hours and my hair appointment was due to arrive at my house. I wish I were one of those people who can walk out of a store without paying but alas I am not. The only cash I had in my wallet was a $20 and I didn't want to waste any time trying to get that woman to ring me up, and who knows how much she would have charged! I walked up to her in front of all those people and declared I had been sitting there for over an hour and had no more time to waste. I handed her the $20 and told her it should be more than enough for her services since I brought the product used myself. And then I walked out. When I got home I was frustrated beyond belief and showed my ruined nails to my fiance and prayed they'd last through the ceremony. Fortunately the wraps covered the nightmare underneath that my nails had become. I was also lucky that my honeymoon destination had a professional spa that was able to remove the superglue with a special soaking treatment... especially since half the wraps came off by the time I went to bed. Remember ladies, you get what you pay for. So if you want to be treated like garbage and have shoddy work done for cheap, you can take a risk here. But if you want quality and to be treated like you are a human go somewhere else. read more

I just went in for a polish change. $5. Excellent. All was going swimmingly until I flinched under the hand dryer (I was trying to read a magazine no-handed) and scraped two nails against the counter. Now this was interesting b/c I realized that if I'd been my younger self (like 20 years ago) I probably would have slinked out with two screwed up nails, but since I'm the age I am now (shhhhhh) I immediately waved the nice lady over and asked her to fix it. Nicely. She did an okay job fixing it (she's not a miracle worker, people) and I went on drying safely. I'd go back but in the end I think I realized that I'm not really a nail polish girl. It's just a lot of work and time and now I'm semi-crippled until I know they're really really dry (but you can see I can still Yelp, har har). read more

I came here for a pedicure with 3 pedi-picky family members. Good pedicure! I like the salt scrub before the lotion, and the hot towel after the lotion. Most importantly is the test of how long the nail polish will last - we're going on 3 weeks and it looks brand new. Also, the workers are exceptionally nice and careful. If I could give it zero stars I would. I have been here a few times prior to today and while not always the nicest people they did a good job on my pedi's for the price. Today, to prepare for my family vacation to the beach tomorrow I stopped in to get a pedicure. The lady used that cheese grater looking tool and the very first swipe she cut my foot and took a chunk out of my toe right under the slice. I understand that sometimes cuts happen but there was no acknowledgement or apology. I had to ask for a bandaid as the cut was bleeding. When I asked for the bandaid each employee came over to look at the cut yet still no apology. When it was time to leave I asked for a discount due to the injury and I was told no but I was given a coupon for next time. You've got to be kidding? You took a chunk of my toe but won't give any compensation for that? If I would have at least received an apology I would have felt better but acknowledging their own mistake was impossible. I left with a wet ass. Im an easy girl to please when it comes to pampering..but when I treat myself I like to feel relaxed...this isnt the place for that. Its fairly clean but not aesthetically pleasing. There was no nice background music or TV and they didnt offer me any magazines (i didnt see them so just didnt get any)..no soothing colors or decor...i was really bored while getting my mani/pedi. The massaging of your legs/hands was 1 minute, the woman made one of my cuticles bleed, she spilt the water jar where you put your hands in all over my lap and although she did say sorry that was about all she did. I also dont like the shape of my nails...theyre too square and remind me of acrylics. I was over it. On the way out i completely scraped off the polish on my toe but they were all in a hurry to leave the place (they were closing) that they all walked out with me. Oh yea and their kids do run around the place like that one lady below mentions. read more

Back in like 07-08 this place was pretty good, but they appear to have downsized and changed hands. I walked in to get my nails done and chicky was sitting on the couch with her feet up, curled up with her dog and her laptop. We sat down for the service and right in the middle of the service she gets up and walks out the door to go find her dog that had wandered outside. There was a bunch of other Asians just sitting around on computers, watching TV and speaking their own language very loudly. There was a mini fridge and they didn't even offer their paying customers refreshments. Instead of bringing her instruments to the desk, she kept getting up from the desk and walking off to get things. Instruments were not sanitized that I saw. The chick who removed my acrylics just swept them off the table onto the floor. Not only was the dog in the salon unsanitary, but this shocked me even more! And she didn't even sweep it up after the service!!! And i don't even want to think about what the waxing services would be like. (Scary!) My service was double the posted price on the wall. They treat it like their own private living room when they should be treating it like what it is - a business. I will never, ever go here again. read more

I've been to Carkeek Nails many times and have never had a horrible experience. I've also never had a great experience. It's just ok. It's bare bones, but the low prices make up for that. One caution: They will NEVER turn away a walk-in customer, no matter how understaffed they are or if they have someone with an appointment coming in. I complained after the 2nd time they left me waiting for more than 20 minutes (after they said they could fit me in "right now") to either finish another client or take an appointment. After it happened a 3rd time (earlier this summer), I decided to not go back. But, it's close, it's cheap and everyone except for the thinner male pedicurist do a good job, so we'll see. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at this nail salon. My friend and I went for pedicures, and were able to get in right when our appointment was (they also do walk-ins), and were able to choose from a beautiful assortment of nail polishes. The staff were friendly but not overbearing or intrusive, and they did not try to sell you other services than what you had asked for. The prices were very reasonable and the pedicures we got were lovely. My only complaint would be that they don't have a very good set-up for getting your nails dry - just a few mini fans that weren't very obvious, and my friend and I didn't even end up using them. I used to visit Carkeek Nails regularly, but am sad to say my last visit will be just that. Perhaps because winter is the 'off season' for pedicures (I was the only person in the salon), the woman who normally appears to be in charge wasn't there, and the salon was in the hands of 2 young men and 1 young woman. The woman was sitting on one of the massage chairs with her bare feet up when I walked in and didn't make a move until after I found my color, where she proceded to get off the chair she'd been lounging in and fill up the tub with water (couldn't I have been given one of the empty chairs where her bare feet hadn't been on the armrest?). After I sat down, I noticed the massage component of the chair was inoperable, and told the youngest man that I'd like to me moved to one of the other (all free) chairs. He said no because there was already water in the one I was in... The three then proceeded to talk on their cells, completely ignore me, and gave me the worst mani/pedi I'd had at Carkeek. Despite the fact that I have had good service in the past, I hold the owner/manager responsible for leaving adolescents in charge (I'm not even sure they have their licenses!) and will not be back. read more

This place was horrible! The staff is extremely rude and they do a horrible job on their pedicures. I was a walk in this afternoon and I understand there usually is a wait, but they said "no problem" and sat me in a chair. I sat with my feet soaking for OVER an hour. Right when I was about to get up and leave a very rude women sat down and started my pedicure. She was rushing so bad that she kept scrapping my toes with the nail file. Not to mention she got nail polish all over my toes too. It took her all of 8 minutes to finish my pedicure. The whole time she was doing my pedicure she was yelling across the room at another staff member and talking on her phone. I will NEVER return to this place. read more

I got a pedicure at Carkeek Nails based on the reviews I read here, but I didn't have a great experience. The nail technician left bits of my old polish on and just tried to cover it, which looked fine in the lighting in the salon, but once I got outside it was painfully apparent that there were spots of dark color under a lighter one, so I will have to redo the pilish myself. Also, when I picked up my purse to go, it was dripping wet. Apparently one of the pedicure chairs was leaking water because not only was the bottom of my leather purse completely soaked, the water had seeped through the seams and ruined my leather wallet. The entire inside of my bag was soaked and I will need to buy a new wallet. They tried to dry it off but the damage was done by sitting in a pool of water for 1/2 hour. I had high hopes but just had a bad experience there. read more

I have far more good experiences here than bad. No, it's not some high end salon, but the people there are always friendly and eased much of my anxieties about getting my nails done. My previous experiences had been in high school and I just didn't see how getting acrylics was worth the pain. Yes, pain. The owner has the most skill at this of the lot, so yes, if you can get her do try. The others are decent, but you're more likely to feel that too hot burning friction sensation. One of the guys at one point sandpapered my finger. I've always had a great pedicure experience, they're always willing to go back and fix anything I smudge when I don't judge the dryness level of the paint properly. If there's no one waiting behind you they'll let you sit in the chairs as long as you like pretty much. Yes, they will try to fit in all walk ins, but if you see five people ahead of you of course you're going to be waiting. I don't think some other reviewers are using common sense about this. read more

Sloppy, dirty, unprofessional and bad customer service. Please do not support this business. I had my acrylic nails done here. when I sat down I noticed the table was dirty and instinctly I wanted to walk away but I second guessed myself and thought "how bad could it be?" When my nails were finished I could see the ridge from my previous arcylic nails, and the french tips were crooked and sloppy. I left because I had to pick my kids up from school, and as I was driving away I was really disappointed. then the next day i noticed some bubbling and dirt under the acrylic. Because I was unhappy I thought it would be appropriate to ask for my money back. Both the male and female owners were verbally aggressive & insulted me when I tried to explain to them that I was unhappy. They were unwilling to give me my money back. They were willing to fix my nails but I lost trust and was scared that they would ruin my nails again; and I was afraid I might get an infection. They're not worth going to when are plenty of other friendly salons to support. btw, I have photos of my nails if you are interested. read more

I used to go #1 Pro Nails in lower QA for years to get my pink & white fills but I am glad that I changed to here. The price is very reasonable $25 for P&W refill and the result is amazing! I only need to get refill every once in 4 weeks. And best part is, the owner, boys & girls are all very nice! If they can improve their sanitaly conditions (well...pretty much the same conditions with other economical nail salon but...), I would give them 5 stars. My sister and I were driving over to her usual place on Greenwood when we saw this place and thought we might as well give it a try. I came in and was not even acknowledged. I guess I had that look of 'the poor thing who was dumb enough to think that we actually honor appointments!' I dutifully sat and waited as the minutes ticked by. Hope flickered when I was assigned a massage chair where I could dip my toes into the tub of water. Ahhh, I foolishly thought, it'll be my turn soon. NO! Do not be deceived! Your toes will curl into pathetic, pale prunes because you will be kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting...I finally stood up and left after half an hour. I dared to mention that I had set up an appointment which was not kept, but my protestation was met with icy silence. So dear stranger, let me spare you this life sapping experience. Until now, I had been a regular customer since 2009. The service has been consistent, fast, most pedis last about 2-3 weeks and the price is right at $18 for a spa pedi. Unfortunately, I'm on the hunt for a new nail salon. The technician spilled paraffin wax on my leather Dansko sandals, that were well out of the way of the foot soaking tub, tried to argue with me about how to handle this accident, and replacement value. As she was taking the sandals to a room adjacent to the pedi chairs, I asked that she not use water, a razor or brush on the shoes. She said she would let them try and peel it off - no water. This would be the best solution and hey, a nice shoe shine too. She stepped away from me and I heard the water running. I called for her and she returned with my wet sandal in hand. When I asked what she was doing, she said cleaning the shoe with water. I said I asked you to not use water because it would damage the soles. She was very apologetic until she saw the price for replacement. Then, she said she didn't use water. I couldn't believe my ears! I told her that she just said she used water. She ignored me. She and the other techs started speaking to one another and then she tells me they are old and she's not paying full price. These are gently worn, less than a year old Danskos - shoes that last for a quarter of a century when properly care for. I kindly explained that this was not my fault and we needed to work this out. She offered me half, and when I said half isn't acceptable, she offered $50. I looked to something bigger than me for guidance on how to handle this situation with my dignity intact. I removed the toe separators, walked to the cash register, looked her in the eye and said, "I'd like to pay for my pedicure." I handed her $20 and walked away. Accidents happen and I was very willing to reach a reasonable solution. No customer should be treated this way when a salon employee damages their property - accident or not - let alone someone who used to have a regular pedi every 3 weeks. read more

Whoa! I've been getting pedicures for years and never have I experienced a pedicure like the ones I've gotten here! Honey is great with Pedis, Manis and full sets. They ARE open on sundays from 9am-5pm which is so great for us that are too busy to go on other days.
