Marie at Advance Nails was wonderful! She asked my name, introduced herself, and occasionally made small talk. She had a great sense of humor. For the pedicure, she took extra care to get my toenails and cuticles looking perfect. After that came an exfoliating scrub, lotion and oil massage AND a hot stone rub. This was all part of the Basic package. (The Deluxe had two more treatments!) It's a small shop, with four massage spa chairs and three workstations. I happened to walk in at 2 o clock on a Thursday and I was immediately followed by two other women. Two more came in within 15 minutes and decided to wait the half hour. A party of four decided not to wait 40 minutes (it probably would have been more like an hour) for the five of us to finish. I should say it was just before forth of July. They do take appointments and I think I'll call ahead even if only by an hour or two to guarantee a spot. Final note: they have a punch card!! $5 off every fifth service. Yay! I hate giving anything less than 5 stars, and I had a lovely time talking to my nail tech Thomas. But I probably wouldn't come back here. Thomas was so nice but the quality of my shellac manicure/pedicure was not good. I paid $80 for a service I wouldn't recommend to a friend, which is why I wanted to share this review. It was a cold day so I asked the nail tech to turn up the heat in the foot spa. He felt it briefly and said "it's warm" and wouldn't increase the temperature. This also may seem a little odd, but he didn't put nearly enough lotion on his rubber gloves so when rubbing lotion into my feet it just felt like squeaky wet rubber up & down my legs? Very uncomfortable. The manicure was probably the worst part. He didn't ask how I wanted my nails shaped and didn't trim the edges/cuticles of my nails. He didn't file or buff, just cut them. (And cut them down pretty short.) There was *a lot* of extra polish left around the edges of my fingers at the end. Even when I pointed out to him where there were areas he needed to fix, he said "Oh, it's ok" and didn't fix. And again, there was the weird rubber glove issue. I almost didn't want him to lotion my arms at all cause it felt so squeaky and uncomfortable! The polish color selection just wasn't great. And lastly... the manicure just barely lasted any time at all! The gel on one full nail just peeled off within 48 hours. They were all chipped or gone by 10 days. For personality and friendliness, I'd give these lovely folks 5 stars. And after I cleaned up the cuticles myself, they didn't look bad from a distance. But for value I would not recommend. read more

To preface this review, I would like to say that it was very inexpensive. I got a pedicure and a full set of acrylics. The pedicure was very nice, and while she used hot stones I still wouldn't give it anything more than "nice". I went because I've been working continuously for several weeks, and of course my feet hurt. But there was no massage, and my feet of course still hurt. The part that rally upsets me, however, are my fingernails. The acrylics are relatively short, but the man who did them didn't touch my cuticles at all, and seemed unfamiliar with the process of acrylics in general. The end result is clunky, ugly nails that upset me every time I look at them. I will be going to a new salon tomorrow to have them fixed. He did not listen when I said I wanted more of an oval shape, and insisted that "square is stronger" (and I'm sorry, but that's a huge load of crap). The acrylics themselves are lumpy, uneven, and surrounded my my untouched, very rough cuticles. I'm really bummed, as I live close by and love supporting my small local businesses. I won't be returning, and I wish I could be refunded at least half of what I spent. read more

On a visit to Seattle, I came to Advanced Nails for a much needed pedicure. I had Maria do my nails and she did a fantastic job. She was VERY friendly and knew how to keep a client engaged in conversation. We laughed and chatted the entire time. The standard pedi comes with a hot rock massage which was a first for me. I wanted to get my toenails done. I do a horrible job on my own. Left to my own devices, I slather polish across my toes and wait for a few days of wear and tear to remove the polish from the skin on my toes, so all that's remaining is on the toenails. I decided to go to a pro. I tried to walk into Varnish on Greenwood. When I asked how long I would need to wait, they said "a week." I thought about parking myself out front for a week, but remembered I had to go home and and pound stakes into my skull. I looked on Yelp and found that Advance Nails was just a few blocks away. Varnish was appealing from the outside, Advance Nails was not. The windows are full of press-on numbers and letters, not-classy old graphics of happy women's head shots, pastel blue paint. But what did I have to lose? I illegally locked my bicycle to a street sign and went in. The interior was no better than the exterior and I was worried that there were two staff and no customers. I asked the woman if she could give me a pedicure and she said "Yes". This place is a hoot. They've got four big massage chairs with tubs in front. She put in a prophylactic plastic bag/huge shower cap liner in the tub, filled it with warm blue water and had me put my feet in. I was then asked what my name was and was introduced to Maria and Thomas, the sibling owners. Maria turned the massage chair on. Wild. It was kind of like being massaged while being pushed around. They had the Travel Channel on the whole time, and it was focused on bacon. I'm a vegetarian, so it was gratifying to see big, unhealthy Americans eating huge slabs of pork. I felt superior as my feet were being scraped and my back pummeled. Maria talked me into the deluxe pedicure. It took about an hour, and included a grainy massage on my feet and legs, an oil and lotion massage on my legs and feet, a hot rock massage on my legs and feet, a couple of bags hot paraffin put around my feet. I have nothing to complain about. All of it was delightful. By the time I left, the place was full. Maria more than once suggested I see her once a month. I might. read more

My manicures here have been hit or miss. My first manicure was awesome: fun colors, great job. My second manicure would've been great had the nail polish not been gloppy. I got the basic manicure both times nothing fancy but the filing and attention to detail were very good. For $14 I would definitely go back here again. read more

It is really convenient that Advance Nails is located only 2 blocks from my home, but convenience aside, I also come here because the experience is better than you would typically find at other nails salons of the same caliber. A basic $35 mani/pedi includes a sugar scrub and hot stone leg massage, and the owners (Thomas & Maria) are super sweet, joyful people who are a delight to spend an hour of my day with. It's really evident that they enjoy and care for their clients by the way that they talk to them and about them. Their work is always meticulous, and their equipment and procedures are very sanitary (they actually use a fresh plastic liner in their pedicure tubs for each person). The only drawback (if any) is that sometimes they work a little slowly...they never rush through any of their services, so just come prepared for the possibility that you might spend a little more time there than you might have expected to. No fancy people working here...no fancy food or drink...no fancy decor....but, what they have going for them is that they are very polite, fun, hard working people with extremely reasonable prices!! Advance Nails is owned by Maria and her brother Thomas, really sweet people. I went in for a mani-pedi. All the equipment is new and Maria keeps everything super clean. They actually asked me if I wanted my cuticles cut instead of just chopping into them. I think I got the most thorough pedicure of my life, with every callus meticulously buffed away. Nice massages for legs and hands. I felt perfectly comfortable and relaxed. The prices were reasonable - $35 for a mani-pedi, $25 for a gel manicure. They have a frequent customer card where you get $5 off after every 5th service. I'd recommend this place and I'm looking forward to going back. read more

The staff was very friendly and nice, however this was the worst manicure I have ever received. The shellac did not stay on and within 2hrs it had peeled off my thumb. The nail on my other thumb had been buffed so much the my weakened nail split down the center. Possibly the polish is bad. I have never seen shellac act this way. Wish I could give them a 4.5 because the ladies were so nice to me, I think partly also because I'm Vietnamese. The salon is really small, it's just on the corner of Greenwood. It wasn't dirty, but the smell was a little unpleasant. Especially when she used hot towels on my arms after the mini-arm massage. It smelled like damp towels and did not mix well with the cheap lotion that she used for the massage. Overall, they were really nice, service was cheap and I'm pretty satisfied with the manicure that I came in for. I got white Shellac and the only problem was that it's unclean around the cuticles. The shop was clean and the technicians are very friendly. Their Deluxe pedicure is amazing, although it takes a very long time, it is a nice treat with various scrubs and a was soak. Even with the regular pedicure you receive a hot stone massage and sugar scrub. The pricing is great as well. A plus on my visit was meeting the owner of Gorgeous George's and his family. This is now my go to place for manicures and pedicures! I have been sto several nail salons in the area (recommendations from friends and online) and always something not quite up to par (hygiene, price, technicians' attitude, how long the work lasts. Not with Advance Nails! Maria and her brother, Thomas are both excellent and detail oriented. They are friendly, gracious and delightful. I had a manicure on Thursday and my hands and nails still look great on Monday and that's after a weekend of gardening and sailing! Most places my nails would be a mess within 24 hours. My pedicure is still flawless and all the mosturizing and work they do on your legs for the deliuxe pedicure, I finally free brave enough to wear a dress again! read more

Clean, cheap and well done. I like that they have plastic disposable liners for each tub so I know that it is clean. Some of the cheap salons don't clean the pedicure tubs well. My pedicure was wonderful and Thomas is the best masseur ever! They use hot stones to massage your calves and Thomas gave me a free head massage! My wife and I followed Maria over to this new salon when her previous employer sold out. We've been going there since the beginning, last fall and they did it very right. The old place had partially functioning massage chairs. This new location has some absolutely amazing chairs and, if they're not busy and my pedicure is over, they'll say "Just relax and be done when you want to be." I noticed some complaints below. I don't know the circumstances, but I'll say that it just doesn't sound like them. I will say that English is their 2nd language and so if there was a show on the TV that someone felt offended by, they probably weren't even aware it was on. A simple "Hey, can we change the channel?" would have sufficed. These are hard-working, doing the best they can people, who give real value in your pedicures. My wife and I sneak in there once every couple of months for a couples event and look forward to every one. If you're in the neighborhood or not too happy with your current source for pedicures, I'd highly recommend them. They'll treat you right. read more

Just got a fill done here...I'm extremely happy with the outcome! They're running a special right now and I was concerned that a cheap price would be cheap service, but no way! Thomas did my nails and he was gentle and precise. He took the time to do my nails exactly how I wanted. I'm thrilled that I now have a great place at an affordable price for my nails. He was even interested in hearing about the preschool I want to open and took down my information in case he hears of a house for rent that would work for it. Advance Nails is block from my house & I was excited to have a nail salon so close. On Saturday, October 20th, I got a manicure & pedicure. The next day, Sunday, my left big toe started hurting. It was swollen & red. Monday it was pussing & bleeding. I called my doctor's office, explained my symptoms, & was told to come in. The doctor took one look at my toe, coupled with my low-grade fever, & said I had a bacterial infection. He said I caught it early & prescribed 10 days worth of antibiotics, along with warm soaks at home. I thought about whether or not in inform Advance Nails. I decided it was the right thing to do & I wanted my money back, which would just about cover the cost of my co-pay & medicine. On Saturday, the 28th, I went to the salon. There were customers inside & I didn't want to make a scene, so I asked to speak to an employee outside. I was shocked that the gentleman I spoke with was rude & defensive. After I calmly explained the situation, he asked to see my toe & a doctor's note. I didn't have a note, nor did I care to unwrap my infected toe on the sidewalk. The employee touted his experience in the field, as well as the fact that they clean their tools. I realized it wasn't worth a fight, said "thank you," & left. I can't believe that a new salon would treat customers this way. I definitely won't be returning. *Note that I would have posted this sooner, but the salon wasn't on Yelp when the incident occurred. Maria and her brother have a great new salon! VERY clean, very caring personal attention for my mani and pedi. Be sure to try the hot wax treatment and the wonderfully soothing green cream with the pedicure! It felt SO good and relaxing. They were both are very gentle with cuticles and especially during the pedicure Maria has done my pedicure and manicure for several years. I have been walking past here for a couple of years now thinking perhaps it would be a good place for me to try out my first pedicure. As others have said, the outside looks, well, humble, and I've often been warned about "shady" nail salons, so in spite of the good reviews I hesitated. About a month ago I finally bit the bullet and got my very fist pedi...at a spot in downtown Seattle recommended by my co-workers. It was a nice experience. OK mani, and the pedi felt great...didn't have anything to compare it to. This week I had just returned from a long camping trip and decided it was time to get freshened up, in spite of my calves and feet being covered in bug bites and a huge bruise. THIS time I decided to give Advance Nails a try. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE. The interior is basic, but very clean and well cared for. I strolled in at a quiet somewhat odd time on a Saturday and there was just one person there getting a mani from Thomas. Maria is incredibly kind and friendly. The work she did was heads and shoulders above what the fancy downtown salon did, at a fraction of the price. I went for the "Deluxe" $35 pedi which included foot and calf massages with oil, lotion, sugar scrub and finally this peppermint herb mask that ACTUALLY made my massive bruise fade a little. It also included paraffin on the feet and the standard pedi work, but meticulously executed. And oh yeah...the weird massaging chair. Creeped me out for the first 10 seconds, but I quickly learned to love it...my lower back especially was soooo happy. My poor feet have been neglected for too long. I think I will listen to Maria and come back monthly. They have a frequent flier card too (fill it and get $5 off). Was worth tipping generously because their prices are really surprising given the level of service. read more

My feet were exhausted after a long week and I was looking for an affordable place to get a spa type pedicure. After reading the reviews about Advance Nails friendly staff and family run environment I can confirm all the previous wonderful comments. Maria, Anna, and their brother (whose name is escaping me) were so nice and welcoming. They have lovely massage chairs that help you relax while they meticulously do your nails. The spa pedicure cost around $35 and the did a soak, parrafin wax, scrub, mask, oil, and moisturizer. They also include a hot stone massage. What a deal!! I was going in to mainly relax and have my feet rubbed, but my nails look great too. For a few dollars extra they also did a manicure (no polish, as I can never keep it on). My hands feel soft and cuticles look better than they have in years. The space is not super fancy, but it is clean, welcoming, and relaxing. I already made my appt. for next month! The mani and pedicure were ok, but it took 2 hours to get it done. I had to ask several times for them to get all the nail polish off and to fix the uneven file job. The staff was sweet and the treatment seemed good, I'm just not pleased with the results. I am someone who gets maybe one pedicure per year, so it's sad when it's not a good one. When the employee brought out the basket of tools, I saw a foot scraper in it (the tool used to thin down the callouses and rough spots). For some reason, she didn't use it; I should have said something, so this one is my fault. My feet don't feel any softer than before I came in. The nail care seemed to be nice until I asked for French tips. After it was all done and I got a close look, I noticed just how sloppy it looks. I have done better French tips at home. I would've gone back and asked her to fix it if I hadn't already been there for an hour and a half (even though I called ahead for an appt). If you're someone who gets regular pedicures and have feet that don't need much softening, and you get a full color paint, I'm sure you would be very happy with this $25 pedicure. read more
