Beware of these guys. I'm not saying don't use them. Just beware, check your facts and do not necessarily take what they say as the Gospel truth. They tried to tell me that my 160k-mile Dodge needed a new motor because of some weird test they do that supposedly determines compression and valvetrain problems. While they appear to be very knowledgeable, and will talk on the phone with you in great detail. The issue is I think they just want to replace motors rather than repair them. They say that "any Cummins that tows heavy will oval out the cylinder bores by 150k miles," and I'm pretty sure that's total BS. Then when I asked for a detailed estimate, I got crickets. Then when I called them on it I got a load of BS about, "we can't quote you accurately because we don't know what injectors are in it," when I had told them in detail (in writing) when I dropped it off. I finally said to heck with it, picked the truck up and am still driving it. It runs fine. It doesn't use oil anymore. I think I dodged a bullet. This is the kind of shop that caters to people with lots of money to throw around. I'm far from rich so I'll just go back to doing my own work. Update: This whole experience came about because my truck seemed to be using a lot of oil. It spent two weeks at Wayne's Automotive and they couldn't figure it out, and so I went to T&A and all they did was their little "test" that says "you need a motor." Well turns out the valve cover gasket was leaking. Simple fix that two major shops with supposedly a lot of knowledge managed to completely miss. read more

Big shout out to Tim, his staff, and T & A Performance!! I have a small courier/delivery business with a few vehicles, so when there's a problem with one of them we definitely feel it. We were just about to leave Reno and head back to the Bay Area yesterday when my Ford Transit 350HD gave a Reduced Engine Power alarm. Pulled over when it lost power and started making calls. We got Tim's number from one of the calls and called him immediately. I told him the details, that it was a work vehicle, and that we were from the Bay Area. I bought a used Ford F250 truck that couldn't pass a smog check, since the previous owner removed required emissions equipment (EGR Cooler and EGR Valve, which is known as an EGR delete), which caused the truck to fail a visual smog inspection. I looked online and found that T & A Performance was the preferred installer of "Bulletproof Diesel" parts in the Reno/Sparks area, so I took the truck to them for an evaluation and quote. I scheduled an appointment with Virginia, who was very nice and told me to bring the truck in the next day. The owner, Tim, inspected the vehicle and Brian in the office provided a very thorough and detailed quote. I scheduled the project and the work was done on time, even though additional issues (a malfunctioning and leaking Oil Cooler, along with many missing bolts and parts that were left out during previous repairs, which were not done by T & A Performance) were discovered that needed to be addressed. I now have a great running and legal vehicle that should run for a long time. I am extremely happy with the work of T & A Performance and will use them again for any future repairs. Jan 2018 - T&A rebuilt my Ford F-250 6.0 in Sept 2015, and I wanted to add that I have now gone over 60,000 miles since and the truck is still running great!!!! We have towed our 14,000 5th wheel and the truck pulls and runs great and have driven without towing and truck runs great. Came in to have the truck we bought looked over. These guys were great. Turns out we bought a bad truck but they took care of us. Still needs tons of work and they will get it. They took us in right away and did what they could to get it back home, 200 miles away. Update on my review. It cost me almost 700.00 for them to tell me they have no idea what is wrong with the truck. After some research on my part it took a .10 cent piece of wire to fix the truck. I really felt ripped of because all I wanted to have them do was look at the truck. $700.00 look was it. Won't go back and advise you to use caution if you do visit them. So happy to find this shop that knows my engine. I have repaired the same IPR failure at 2 shops ( one being a Ford Dealer). These guys found the problem and solved it! **** update**** sadly I have to update my review. When I was at their shop all those months ago, they replaced my turbo, which was under warranty from Ford. They did charge me for the new turbo and stated that once the credit came through from Ford, they would refund me. Well 7 months later, I am still waiting for this refund of over $1000. Weekly phone calls get the same comment " we working on it. Let me call Ford and I'll call you back" never get a call back. Emails go unanswered .. Voice mail calls don't get responses back.. C'mon Tim and Paul.. You guys are better then this **update August 2016 **** Well, Tim surprised me. He called me win an update back in June, he said Ford would not warranty the part, but he would be willing to do something to help me out.. We agreed on some oil changes .. Great... But then late July they called me and said that they had continued to work with Ford, and they offered a 75% refund.. Well, I accepted the offer.. Thanks Tim for restoring my faith in people keeping their word !!! read more

HONEST and FAIR. Last week I had some tire work done by another company and was told I had a head gasket leaking. Since I have had a previous good experience with T&A I choose to take the truck back to them. Though I was expecting an expensive repair, that was not the result. I was extremely happy that what they found was a very simple fix from a previous repair and that I didn't need the head gasket repaired. In fact I wasn't charged for anything. Noting an early review that a Yelper felt he was taken advantage of, I would have to say that in this case, where they could have but didn't and did the right thing, that is worthy of my business. read more

I would like to give T and A the best rating! I towed my truck from Tracy CA (205 miles away) to have work done to my F250. They did an ATS tranny, coolant flush, oil cooler upgrade, lighting and install. Hands down best service and quick turnaround on getting the job done. Wow!!! I'm from California, I've had trouble with my truck and it's been at Jones West for 2 weeks. My frustrations accumulate daily with them to say the least. So I took it into my own hands to find a reputable Diesel shop. So the reason I say wow is Tim took the time to ask questions and help with the diagnosis of my vehicle which isn't even in his possession. I have received more input from Tim on my vehicle with him not even having it. Furthermore he went above and beyond and contacted the dealer who does have my vehicle to ask for codes etc. so he could further aid me in getting this problem resolved. Needless to say they've went above and beyond to help me without any reservation of me bring in my vehicle or making any money off of me as a customer. This is very refreshing considering the difficulties I've had at a dealership just around the corner. I would much rather pay out-of-pocket and support a local small business rather than pay Jones West or have them do warranty work on my vehicle. If you live in the Reno/Tahoe area you are lucky to have these guys as a resource. I have a cabin in Truckee and it's worth it to me to bring it here, rather than the Bay Area. I took my time researching mechanics after being severely overcharged for a transmission installation in the Bay Area. I was looking for a quality shop that was reasonably priced and most importantly-- ethical. These guys are old school. They take the time to explain/ talk through it all and don't try to BS you. Straightforward, honest dealings. I went through 2 different mechanics in the Bay Area that just didn't give a shit. At T&A I found sharper mechanics at a better rate. I no longer have to worry leaving my truck off. The owner, Tim, is clearly passionate about diesels and knows his stuff. What's not to like about this outfit? Honest, competent, respectful and fair. I drive a dodge sprinter 2004 2500 and I came to this shop with "boost issues" because after calling 10 diesel mechanics, they were the first shop in the Reno area that would even look at it. They wanted over $200 just to read the codes!! Found one thing that might cause a boost issue, but insisted on fixing 4 other things I could have fixed myself. The one thing I couldn't fix was a bad fuel injector, and they used some kind of crane/wench to remove it (unorthodox). When I finally got the van back a full week later the charge was $1200.00 and the boost issue was still happening. To replace a fuel filter which is $60 from autozone and only takes me 30 minutes to replace, took them 1.2 hours?? At no point did they look at the turbo resonator, and one Google search confirmed it was a common issue with my van. One look from underneath I could see a crack in the plastic weld. Furthermore, they left my air filter case open and within a day it was totally clogged with dirt, also there was a 2 inch gash cut into the intercooler charge hose, which I'm pretty sure they caused while yanking out my injector. So I ended up needing a new hose and a new air filter. Overall, I feel like I was taken advantage of. What's worse, is RJ gave me a 30 minute dogmatic lecture about my van when I picked it up which really pissed me off. I'm not a mechanic but I'm not afraid to work on cars, and I do regular oil and filter changes whenever they're needed. I know how long certain fixes should take and these guys are definitely playing the "you're not a mechanic and you don't know" card and padding their hours. I've since taken my van to another mechanic who is not only nice to me, but isn't ripping me off. read more

T and A Performance, they specialize in diesel motor maintenance and repair. I brought them my Ford Powerstroke with a significant problem and they were able to fix the problem within a reasonable amount of time. The cost was significant, but so was the work they had to perform. Sean, the counter guy did a good job of keeping me informed as the problems were diagnosed and repaired. Unlike some other repair shops, I did NOT get a surprise when it came time to pay the bill. Seriously professional responses to all of my questions and concerns. Tim, an owner, showed obvious expert knowledge about the motor in my truck. A really nice change from several other mechanics. The truck is running and they will get my future business. If you have a diesel pickup with a problem I recommend having T and A Performance examine your problem. read more

Back in December 2015 my 2nd stock turbo went out on my 2011 cummins with 113000 miles. I called around Reno and everyone said call Tim at T and A performance. I had done a few upgrades already and didn't want to go back to the stock Turbo. When I talked to Tim and Paul they really knew there stuff. Tim put in Aurora 3000 and 5000 compound turbos as well as some head studs. This job was quite the task for them as they had to do a lot of custom work to make it fit perfect. I was truly impressed. and the performance of this set up is unreal. Better mileage, lower EGT. Well back in July 2016, the bracket that holds the Turbos on cracked and broke in half. I called up the shop and they said bring it in. They removed and replaced the bracket no charge. Also had them do a set of Power stop brakes while it was there. Well in January 2017 the bracket holding the turbos Broke again. (This is a part supplied by ATS and comes in the Turbo kit!) called up Tim and they got the truck in and fixed it again. Well now it is May 2017 and the Bracket snapped again. Called up T and A, and they fit me right in, removed and replaced the Turbo bracket. I am truly impressed with Tims shop and that they make it right and deal with the supplier not asking me to get involved. I feel bad they have to keep fixing this bracket on this Turbo set up they sold me. But they keep their word and stand by their work. Hard to find anyone who provides a service as good as them! It has been tough having to rent cars here and there to get to work when the truck is down. You would think you would be compensated for the inconvenience of the part they recommend always breaking.lol But I wouldn't have anyone else work on it! Thanks Tim read more
