The team handled a pretty tricky electrical issue with my convertible mitsubishi spyder! Pricing was affordable and didnt break the bank. it's fairly close to a lot of grocery stores and restaurants. Bring your electric scooter or a bike so you can cruise around town while you wait for the service. read more

Works on the most exotic vehicles known to the automotive world. Professional, courteous, and highly communicative. Very recommended.

Silver Star was highly recommended by Elite Finishing, Chris. We tried them for installing skid plates on our Subaru . Totally outstanding and quick return. Had opportunity to try out the skid plates and they performed beautifully over a rough road. My corvette was towed to Silver Star from Hot Springs in Carson City . I chose Silver Star because of our experience. They quickly diagnosed the problem as broken knob on transmission- preventing startup. They said one week , but actually took only 3 days. Super-efficient. I will always use Silver Star for all of my car and truck projects. They are the best in Gardnerville , and probably cc and reno also. Well worth the tow charge which Geico only covered $60. I paid $200 tow. (Mechanic services and tow- CC who i highly recommend also. Thank you Silver Star. read more

I moved to Gardnerville two years ago and looked for a third-party, professional, trustworthy and reliable auto shop. I did a lot of research and found Silver Star Automotive. James and his team fit my criteria perfectly. I've now brought three of my trucks to Silver Star automotive multiple times each. He even sells tires through Tire Rack and passes on his discount (two trucks). I highly recommend Silver Star Automotive. I don't often write reviews but was compelled to with such a positive experience. read more

Exceptionally clean garage. James is confident in his staffs ability to get the job done. He does what other garages only wish they could. I have a modified jeep tj with PSC steering system. I went to a few other garages they took one look at the system, liked the system but wanted no part in the repair, two offered to return to a stock Steering system. That was not an option. James took a look said no problem. He fabricated the parts that were needed and charged a fair price to repair. Steering is the best it has ever been. He works on all vehicles. My new automotive specialist Thank you James read more

High quality people and shop. James takes good care of things, and the quality of the equipment is obvious. Nice waiting area. I've had my truck in three times and each time the service was as expected or better. I'll be back. read more

I don't live in the area and needed to find a mechanic for my mom. I started reaching out via yelp for quotes. Silver Star was one that responded quickly. After reading other reviews, I decided to give them a try. So happy I did! Solid work at fair prices. James has been great and sent detailed estimates prior to the work being done. My mom stated they have been kind and easy to work with in person. It's hard enough to find a mechanic you can trust, especially one you won't meet in person. Working with James has been stress free & easy. I highly recommend them to anyone in the area. read more

Came here cause I always want to support local And it was close. I emailed and they got back to me quickly .But they checked my vehicle quickly and determined the problem quickly. And gave me a quote quickly and repaired it quickly. Great awesome people from when I stepped in the door. To when I left. read more

Yelp sent my request for a quote to multiple service providers, and Silverstar automotive responded very promptly and clearly with the best options for both pricing and timing. When I got there for service, they were super kind and friendly. Got to work quickly and it was just an amazing easy process. I highly recommend them for any services that you need! read more

Amazing team and service! I dropped my car off with a few issues and they completed it in such a timely manner and for a great price! Definitely my go to car service from now on. read more

The car had a major oil leak. What we thought was the problem turned out to be something else. It was a 2004, so they did find a few other problems. But, the car runs great. read more

I brought my MB CLS300 in for B1 service. I had been looking for a local option for recommended service versus going to the dealer in Reno and paying a grand for this. I called and had a chat with the owner/mechanic of the 2 man shop. They had a two week queue for service but they would not disappoint. I brought my car in after supplying my VIN info so they had all the recommended filters and parts. They met with me and told me it would take about 2 hours. Like clockwork, ready in 2 hours and they reset all the electronics too! The cost was a third of the dealer and they are real technicians. In now have a place to take my RAM 2500 diesel and Challenger. These guys are awesome! read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Fast, courteous mobile service for my dead battery! Polite & knowledgable will hire full time! Thank you!

Finding someone to trust with one of your most important and expensive items (your car) isn't something you take for granted. Nor should you take a crap shoot. If you're reading this, you'll look at the number of stars, number of reviews, and maybe read one or two of them. Maybe you're unsure about the bona fides of the person leaving the review or even if the person leaving it has any clue as to a compare/contrast with others. Having some experience wrenching on a car, I know what is a reasonable rate, and jobs that I want to personally avoid. In this case it was the water pump for a Lexus RX, and then a simple follow up job for changing the rear shocks on a truck ... (in the winter). Plus, I've been lucky enough to move to Nevada so have been able to "experience" auto-repair shops in a variety of locations. These guys were accurate in price (what you get in terms of parts, what you expect or hope to pay, and what you wind up paying) and also in the amount of time it took to get the job done. I wasn't left hanging in terms of communication, status of the job nor was I mislead as to how long it would take (and pleasantly surprised as to how quickly they got it done: from yelp communication, estimate and then dropping off at the shop to having it available for pick up). Price : Better than expected! Turnaround time : Great! Communication : Top notch! Location ... Well it's just "okay" as it's a bit set off 395 / Industrial but once you figure out where they're at, it's fine :) So at the end of the day ... how much is your time worth to get the job done right the first time, with clear expectations set, and exceeded? read more

5 stars all day long. Called from the road with a break issue on our car while traveling through the area. Told me he was backed up until July. James called back and fit us in same day. Stand up service from James and the shop. Thanks for the help out today and a great price. We are back on the road and riding in a safe truck again read more

Drove from Reno here because the price was fair for the repairs I needed. It was a beautiful drive and Minden is a cute little town. The shop got me in early and did everything I needed. I would HIGHLY recommend this auto shop if you value quality, honestly, and dedication to their service and customers. read more

Excellent communication and highly qualified to repair vehicles with a lot of certifications. restoration work looked beautiful.

Came in for what was supposed to be a simple one hour O2 sensor install on my Land Rover with a predetermined quote for the job. Owner of shop had a Land Rover himself when I pulled up, which boosted my confidence in his knowledge of my rig. Had some unforseen complications during install nobody would have seen coming until in the midst of the job. James took charge and found a creative, unconventional, yet sound way to fix the issue. Took him about 4 times the amount it was supposed to take due to what happened and the complications that arose, but he stayed true to his original labor quote he gave me upfront regardless of having to invest extra of his own time to get it taken care of. That's honesty and integrity that will keep me coming back and recommending him. He keeps his shop organized and spotless. Attention to detail even in simple things like his branded uniform and hat he wears shows he takes pride in his shop and work. He has an intellectual and meticulous mind; a sharp and articulate fellow. These are the traits anyone hopes for in a shop. read more

Jeff and Silver Star are great! Timely communication, honest estimate / pricing and high-quality work. I drive down from Reno because of the great care and value. You won't be disappointed read more

Popped in on James in the middle of a snow removal project and he was kind enough to do a quick~ish fix for me so I could feel safe driving on these white snowy roads we have right now. If you don't already have a good mechanic in the area, I would highly recommend going to James at Silver State Auto. Thanks again James! Appreciate YOU! read more

James just opened his shop in our complex off of Industrial Way in Gardnerville. I have been on a lifelong search for an honest mechanic that knows what he's doing and charges reasonable rates. My search is over. I have had him work on two of my vehicles and been very impressed with his knowledge base and speed of service. In both cases my bill was far less than I'm used to paying. He is also the nicest, most personable guy you'll ever meet in the auto repair business. It is a pleasure dealing with him. I highly recommend bringing your vehicle to him. He can do it all, foreign and domestic. I'd give him 6 stars if I could ;) read more

This shop serviced my F150. I considered them based on reviews and close proximity to my home. Also, they were very pleasant on the phone and treated me with respect. Their service went as expected and their prices were fair. My main reason for choosing them was their attitude. I was told as a student, "No matter how much competition you have in business there is ALWAYS room for someone who is conscientious!" I feel lucky to have found this business. read more

James is by far the best mechanic we've ever dealt with. He has worked on all of our vehicles: 2014 Subaru Outback, 2009 Suburban 2500, 1986 Toyota 4runner, 2007 Bayliner 245, Honda eu2000 generator... you name it, he can fix it. He just finished a major overhaul of our boat trailer in which he replaced our crappy, inoperative surge brakes with an electric over hydraulic system. It turned out to be a much longer, more arduous job than any of us thought it would be, but James got it done and stuck to his quote despite having to re-do the entire job because of some faulty bearing seals which he replaced under warranty at no additional charge to us. He is a super nice guy that really knows his stuff. We have referred several of our friends to him who all love him just as much as we do. If you are looking for an honest mechanic who can fix anything and charge you a fair price, then look no further. James at Silver Star Automotive is your man! read more

The word trust has been used by other reviewers. I trust James at Silver Star Automotive. A summary of our experience was we had a strange noise problem with our Nissan Rogue. Several repair shops had examined the vehicle but no one could find the cause. James examined the vehicle and came up with two possibilities Both were problems that needed to be fixed. A quote was given and the repair started. James found the problem, it needed just one repair and now we have a quiet Nissan. Trust, James saved us a lot of money. James gave us a good feeling of knowing someone you could trust. James now has a regular customer who trusts him. read more

I've been looking for a trustworthy, competent shop to take my older Dodge truck in for repairs. I found Silver Star on Yelp and liked what i saw. I received several quotes to get the shocks replaced on my truck and Silver Star was on the low end. In short, I received great service and the truck rides like it's new. I would trust James with any repair or maintenance on any vehicle. He has worked with race teams for much of his career so you know he is highly skilled. Also, thank your for taking precautions to keep your customer's safe during the pandemic! read more

As we passed through Carson Valley in our way home to TX we had James look at a suspension issue we were having on our motorhome. He did everything humanly possible to resolve the problem short of having to order new parts, which wouldn't work because of our travel schedule. James is a very courteous, fair and professional and I would highly recommend his shop for your vehicle repairs. read more
