At the end of June, I took my truck to Big O Tires for a routine A/C tune-up. Shortly afterward, an employee named Chris called and claimed that my A/C compressor clutch had seized and insisted the repair would cost $4,000. He was incredibly pushy, repeatedly pressuring me to approve the repair and making it sound like there was no other option. He made it sound like he was doing me a favor. Fortunately, my fiancée urged me to get a second opinion before authorizing the work. I took my truck to Silver Star Automotive, where James performed his own inspection. James was honest, kind and incredibly knowledgeable. He explained everything in such a way that I actually understood how a/c works. His diagnosis was completely different. The compressor clutch was NOT seized. The actual issue was a small condenser leak, which he repaired and recharged with refrigerant for under $1,000. If I had trusted the first diagnosis, I would have spent more than $3,000 on a repair that another qualified mechanic determined my truck did not need. Afterward, I learned that Chris had previously served time in prison. I can't say whether that had anything to do with my experience, but knowing that, combined with the intense pressure to approve an unnecessary $4,000 repair, left me deeply disturbed. To every woman--and anyone who isn't familiar with cars--please don't let yourself be pressured into expensive repairs. Get a second opinion. Ask questions. Walk away if someone is trying to rush you into spending thousands of dollars. That second opinion saved me over $3,000. Ladies: you can trust James with Silver Star Automotive

Fortunately it was right in front of this location. The service folks came out and helped put the spare on that enabled us to keep our appointment that day. Following the initial incident there were numerous calls back and forth with Arika arranging the tire delivery and schedule to put it back on my car before I needed to leave to get home. This process could not have been better. What a true treat to be treated in a kind and fair manner. So rare these days. Then when it came time to put the new tire on the Tech noticed very quickly there was a loose bolt on the rocker arm from the impact. Then he also noticed how far off the alignment was off. By simply taking the time to be diligent he made my experience first rate. I highly recommend this location for all tire and service needs.

I'm also due an oil change and so I call a local oil place and ask if they'll do a tire rotation as well. Sure, they say, for $13. Now that's not a big deal, but it's on top of an oil change that will cost me nearly $90, and so I decide to give Les Schwab a call. When asked, they tell me, bring it down anytime and we'd be glad to take care of it. Heck, I'm saving $13 and they were very friendly on the phone. A couple of days later my wife takes the car down, and they are slammed. My wife, being the gentle person that she is, asks if it would be better to come back tomorrow first thing in the morning. They say that it would be easier to manage then. So we then decide to drop it off the night before so that they can squeeze it in first thing in the morning. We then run another errand that takes us about 20 minutes and the phone rings. It's Les Schwab calling and our car is already finished. They've also checked the brakes and there are no problems there. They also let us know that the car will be needing tires soon, and they provide us with two estimates on different sets of tires. There is no pressure, and we feel fantastic about the whole visit. When it comes to customer service, my wife and I felt great about our visit, and Les Schwab will always be a part of our tire buying consideration.

I trust them which I have very little trust for most mechanics as I have been ripped off too many times to mention. I believe them when they tell me something about my car. They keep the old parts to show you which I like and they are just downright good guys. Great mechanics and just very nice guys! This is the only place I would recommend a friend taking their car to and personally I won't be taking my car anywhere else. Chuck took a look at the new tire (less than 6 months old) and noticed that it is generally not repairable. A trip to the Pep Boys in Reno was the offered solution since it would be covered under road hazards. With twin 3-year-olds and a dog in the back, I explained that we were going south and couldn't afford to make the trip north. Chuck went to work and instructed his team to try their best to help us out. After a short time, we were given the great news (and a huge staple) that the tire had been fixed. Chuck did it! We were in a desperate situation and Chuck's dedication to the customer experience not only fixed our tire but fixed our summer vacation. The ball joints were recently replaced at a shop in Gardnerville, the tires were showing no signs of concerning wear. We took it to another shop and watched the mechanic shakedown and inspect the truck's front end. Ball joints were fine. This truck had "lifetime alignment" at Tires plus. Yesterday (9/9/26) I took my truck into Tires plus to get a rotation/balance and alignment. I also have paid for "lifetime alignment". I get a call saying my outer tie rods and ball joints have too much movement and they can't align it. My control arms are less than two years old and my tires have no abnormal wear either. I took the truck to Big O tires today (9/10) truck is done, no problems with the front end, aligned and ready to go. Very disappointed with the quality of Tires plus and their customer service. When I dropped off the truck yesterday a lady was waiting for thirty minutes, her appointment was at 10 am it was 1030 she was still in line. Meanwhile, Tires plus team members were walking around, standing at the register fumbling with papers.

Growing up, my Father and Grandfather owned and operated an APCO station in Estherville, Iowa, hence my tendency to review every gas station I come across. Gasoline is a commodity, so things like price, clean restrooms (as applicable), and convenience are my key interests in what is usually an unremarkable customer experience. Hence, a 3 Star "A-OK" rating is the most common. That's what this Pacific Gasoline Station received then and right now. I have filled up several times since the review, and what I wrote remains true today. So yesterday, I'm attending a Genoa Western Heritage Day event, look at my phone, and see that a comment had been added to my review. I've pasted it in below, and I'll have to say that it's rare to be personally attacked that way for a middle-of-the-road "A-OK" review. Looking at similar (and lower) Yelp reviews, it appears that I'm not the only one in this "owner's" crosshairs, who might not take such realistic comments well. Since this is a self-serve station and he/she isn't normally around to police customer experiences, I'll be sending knowing smiles and optimism his/her way every time I fill up. SMH.
