We unfortunately have a 2019 Ford Expedition, which was riddled with transmission issues (10 speed transmission). We went to Corwin Ford and the quote was off the charts. We were recommended to General Transmission and the quote was considerably less. They originally scheduled 2 weeks for repairs but the Ford parts were defective and they had to rebuild the transmission again at no additional cost. Additionally, the starter and other parts required replacement and they performed the work for cost of parts only. They have a 100,000 mile/3 year warranty. Our Expedition runs well for the first time since we purchased it. We highly recommend General Transmission. read more

Never going back here. They replaced my diff fluid about 2 years ago and when I took it the first time it leaked, then I brought it back and they supposedly fixed it. Now it is leaking again in the same place no damage or anything so I don't know why it would just leak out of the blue unless they purposely seal it long enough where It will begin to leak so I can bring it back later. I've had 20 cars over 30 years and never had a diff leak like this. Even with built diffs and such the fact it leaked right after I brought it there for service and again in 2 years tells me they don't do it right read more

I gave GT 5 stars only because 6 or 10 were not a thing. These guys were my 3rd stop (2nd diagnostic). 1st! They did not charge me to diagnose! That's $130 savings right there! 2nd they quoted $200 less than place #1 - and came in lower. Yeah. I know. 3rd. It's Wednesday and I can pick up the car. 1 day earlier than when the other place said they could do the diagnostic. 4th. The 2 guys at the counter were both excellent! Wait. What's better than excellent. Phenomenal! 5th. The 1st guys saw woman and decided - sucker. Ha! My 2013 Jeep Wrangler was making some weird noises coming from the transmission area (shocking I know!) and my son suggested I take it to a transmission place for a look see. Not ever having dealt with a transmission place in Reno before I was wary and wanted to make sure I did not get taken advantage of. So I Yelped it (of course) and this place seemed to have consistently good reviews. The staff was very accommodating and worked with me to set a time to drop it off when they would have a chance to look at it. Within a day they called me to say it needed a part of the driveshaft rebuilt and it would take a few days. I was concerned about leaving the Jeep overnight because it does not have the top on it (it is summer after all!) but they assured me it would be secured in their yard. I picked it up a few days later and the noise is gone. Hopefully it stays that way but it looks like their work is warrantied for a year so that gives me piece of mind too. read more

Trustworthy, quality work and incredible customer service! I requested a quote for a rebuilt transmission from General Transmission via their online portal and received a reply that very weekend from their Sales Executive, Ricky Ross. Not only was his initial communication timely, but it was very detailed and he even explained the warranty as well as what they would do to ensure this transmission problem was permanently fixed - their quote was also hundreds of dollars less than the quote I had received from another area shop! Ricky then coordinated a complimentary tow to transfer my car to their shop and stayed in constant communication with me while the work was being done. Even better is that he communicated with me through email and text messages, which was so helpful as my work days tend to get very busy, making it difficult to take and return personal calls during business hours. Once I picked up my car, everything seemed to be working great, however a few days later I wound up broken down in a parking lot with the same transmission issue right at the end of the work day. I called General Transmission and Ricky sprang into action, truly going above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of! He picked me up in his own car to give me a ride home and then arranged another tow service to return my car to their shop. The next day they discovered a part of the rebuilt transmission was bad and it would take several days to reorder and replace. Given my work situation and true need for a car, Ricky arranged a rental car for me and again, on his own personal time, took me to pick-up the rental on his day off. The repair ended up being more extensive than anyone anticipated, but Ricky continued to keep me up-to-date every step of the way and constantly checked in to see if I needed anything while the General Transmission team worked diligently to ensure I would not have any further transmission issues. He honestly made me feel so well taken care of in the midst of pretty stressful situation! Ricky and Richard were amazing! They communicated all of the issues with my car and what needed to be done every step of the way. They were very mindful of my requests and even took pictures during the repairs. Another mechanic shop had overfilled my transmission fluid which led to my transmission pan gasket failing and needing to be replaced. They also serviced my brakes as they were due, despite not traditionally offering this kind of service. General transmission got me in and completed all of my repairs in less than a 48 hour turnaround! Last year I had General rebuild a 4R100 which they should have been able to do in their sleep, but yet. The transmission has never shifted properly, it whines (never good) and it started throwing codes, oh yeah the pan started leaking too (!) They told me since they didn't install it they weren't going to honor their warranty, even tho' I own a established general repair shop and the re-install was done p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y. I also caught the guy processing the bill trying to charge more than quoted. **Never again** and I'll try to convince as many people as I can to go elsewhere. read more

I was in Reno for a day to bring my husband to the ER, in the midst of a move, and our truck started stalling at idle/low RPMs. We live three hours out, I have a toddler and two dogs, and have rough roads to get home. We called this spot and they told us no problem, they could check out our F150 right away. The BEST experience and EASIEST, I have ever had regarding auto repair. 3 days, start to finish. They were transparent with cost; they won't gauge you, like some of General's competitors. Ricky (the guy at the front desk who will check you in), is...exactly what you want when you enter a business. Friendly, genuine and reassuring. I was so impressed and pleased that he kept me in the loop of little surprises the mechanics would find. He's AMAZING! I couldn't ask for a better experience, for something that I dread. DON'T TRUST THEM! My F-150 was acting like there was something wrong with the transmission so I took it in and paid to have them trouble shoot it. After two days they found nothing wrong and could not replicate my symptoms, or find any check engine codes. But they told me, yup, the transmission is probably going bad, you should have it rebuilt for $4,300. Well, that didn't sound right to me so I said I'll wait. After looking my symptoms up on the web, it sounded like a common wire harness problem with my truck. I took it to a different transmission shop and had them do the fix, which cost $600. Out the door. Which sucks, but still a lot better then 4K. No more problems. read more

Just had my 1995 Suburban's transmission rebuilt by Peter and his father Victor. These guys also diagnosed another problem during their test drive that affected their ability to know exactly how the new tranny would perform, but they didn't have to do that at all. This shop has helped bandaid things before just to help me out for little or no charge. An honest, family-run business that prides itself on honesty and quality and making sure it's right the first time. Tell them I sent you for quality and affordable service you can surely trust. They did quote me $1800 out the door including the transfer case, and I paid $327 more for that, but they also had to service three seals and service some fluids for virtually all systems.
