First time using Hi-Tech. I found them via the Costco Auto Website. I trust the vendor vetting process that Costco employs, so I had high hopes for Hi-Tech. Also a 15% discount is always nice. The shop lobby is simple but clean. There are a couple of comfortable chairs and a coffee machine. The office has wifi, so that's handy to get some work done or just surf the web. My job was quoted at two hours but they felt they could get it done in about an hour. My car was ready in about 75 minutes. I'll take it. I had a simple brake fluid flush. My car was returned clean (no greasy finger prints), the service light was reset and my brakes performed as expected. I was really wowed by the service that Tom and his amazing crew provided in each of the last two services I received from Hi Tech Auto. first was the exhaust installation and second was the replacement of two seals on the differential of my 2002 C5 corvette and replacement of tranny fluid and diff fluid. In each case I thought the quality of service was outstanding and I was impressed by how quickly everything was done and the reasonable fair price of the service. Perry saves the day! yesterday we drove from bay area to Carson city to visit my grandma who's on hospice. on the way in the middle of the mountains our car starts acting like its going to poop out. freaking out and nervous with our three kids in the car, we drove very slowly and came to town. urgently we were looking for a place that would be open on memorial day and nothing was. desperately we called a few places in the morning on Monday and nobody answered. just as we were at the auto parts store using YouTube to see what tools we needed and going to try ourselves, Perry calls me back saying he had a missed call! THEY WERE Freaking OPEN! we got back into the car and drove straight to Reno not knowing what to expect. Perry was so kind and understanding and knowledgeable. he squeezed us in and we prayed it would not be too expensive. Perry explained everything to us and we knew ethey were doing a full point evaluation. it would be at least an hour so we went to the casino to eat and wait. we got the text explaining everything that they saw and then a very patient and kind technician called me to explain the most important things to get us home safely without spending too much time or money today. he explained the importance of everything thats still needed and gave tips on what to do in case one thing that is minor goes wrong. he even put thw more saturated coolant in just in case we needed to add water after taking it up the hill and with traffic and heat today. Not only were they a God send to us, they also asked us about the memberships we had tat could get us a discount, i had no idea they offered that and it made the entire experience so much better!!! im not from around here but I highly recommend Hi Tech automotive, I would happily send anyone i cared about to them, becasue they seem trustworthy and efficient, not to mention smart and reliable. If you're looking for a new mechanic, try them out! 10/10 highly recommend and 1000/1000 grateful for them deciding to be open today. i would have missed a flight I have for work tomorrow morning and my kids school and work, and my husband work as well! On October 7, 2024 I took my 2013 Ford escape to Hi Tech automotive. I explained to Thomas Goodrich their service advisor wanted a complete inspection. They did the inspection and subsequently replaced my entire brake system. The bill was $2000. I picked the car up the next day. I had the radio on, so I was unaware of a swisher soud. I did hear te sound the next day and told them and left the car. I pick it up later that day. I was told a 'boot on the tie rod was worn'. The charge was $184, but Thomas said would cover it, so no charge. But I did tip him $100. Now a month later he calls and tell me I have $184 balance. I said you told me was covered. He oh there's no note! Now two weeks ago the swishing sound is back. So I take it back in and he says it sounds like a bad brake booster. So least to say I do not recommend Hi Tech auto. My story is a perfect example of differentiating the good/reliable shops versus the bad. I brought my high mileage Toyota in for a serpentine belt issue and an oil change. Long story short, both services provided did not come without issues- The oil change had a faulty oil filter (my wife noticed there was some oil under the vehicle when picking it up in an Uber with 2 kids and car seats etc.) total PITA but Tom made it right and reimbursed us for our costs getting to and from the next day while they fixed the issue. For the serpentine belt, I asked them to diagnose and check the pulley when they did the belt replacement and there was a misdiagnosis (pulley was in fact cracked). I went in to speak with the owner and they were honest and made it right by refunding the cost of the diagnostic. There was no arguing when the issues came up, only proper customer service, admitting where they went wrong, and making it right. I'll be back! read more

The quality, value, and everything requested is beyond reproach. I've never seen a place that is so customer oriented. Most places these days customers feel like businesses just want to get you in and out, not these guys! They are true professionals. I had some issues going on with my GMC Acadia (fairy new vehicle) this place kept working until they could find the problem. Unfortunately, my car went back 3 times ~ but they found it. I had never had any problems before. There are not enough words to not only 'thank' them, but definitely recommend Hi Tech to everyone. My Accord 2013 blew a fuel pump on the E. Sierra's in Lee Vining, and I had it towed to Reno. Apparently, the E. Sierras lack mechanics so they're backed up for weeks. (Don't get stuck out there!) I had the car towed to Hi Tech, not knowing who to send it to. I don't like dealerships much. I dropped the car on a Saturday and the owner said even though they don' work on the weekends he'd check in on it with their webcams. Anyway, I had to fly home, and left it at their garage for a week. When I returned, the fuel pump was fixed and the battery terminals were redone and cleaned without additional charge. I knew the fuel pump fix wouldn't be cheap, but they did a great job. I drove home without a problem. Smooth all the way. Thank you so much! read more

Both low beams in my Prius had gone out at the same time, which made me wonder if it was fuse or electrical related. I drive to work in the dark and I drive home from work in the dark, so I thought getting this done during my lunch hour would be best. A quick Yelp search for "honest mechanic" yielded a few results, but a quick confirmation from other female reviewers made Hi Tech the right choice. Over the phone, Mike told me that he could check my lights right away. Mike was efficient, I think I was there for maybe 5 minutes, and did not try to sell me a Johnson Rod even though I had assumed it was going to be a complicated fix. By the end of it, I wanted to give him a hug. I was so appreciative of his help and have been just so moved by the kindness of strangers. The recent snow storms have not been kind to me and my hybrid, and having my lights function again gives me back a layer of safety. No more driving with my high beams. I needed a timing belt replaced on my 2017 Honda accord. This was preventative maintenance. The Honda dealerships price was outrageous. Talked to Joe and he quoted me a fair price. I asked for a particular brand of parts which he was able to obtain. I dropped off the car in the morning and the whole job was done by 3:00 in the afternoon. I picked up the car after work and Gabriel helped me out and took the time to answer some other questions I had. I asked for my old parts so I could look them over. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars, I'm always weary of trying new auto mechanics shops but I'm new to Reno and have no choice. My cousin recommended Hi Tech Auto because she knows nothing about cars either and she's had excellent service here so I tried it too. I'm happy. As I was driving from the Bay Area to Reno I heard something rattle beneath my car. When I examined my car before going over Donner Pass I noticed something was hanging from the bottom of the vehicle. I brought my car to Hi Tech. They told me that a plate was missing a couple of bolts. And that they can replace the bolts. I also told them the car is leaking fluid and asked to figure out why there's a leak. It took most of the day to get fixed (dropped off car at 8am and picked up around 4pm) but they also told me how to resolve the leak for free. The total price of my service was $28+. I was paying more for the labor as opposed to the hardware. Not bad for peace of mind considering I had to drive back to the Bay Area. Safety when driving over the mountains is important to me. I'd hate to have an auto problem in the mountains where cell phone reception is poor and there are few gas stations. Quinn works in the office and he's really friendly. He explained what was causing the leak and how to resolve it. I really appreciate his honesty. He's a hard worker too. Hi Tech was busy with telephone calls and visitors. Took my 2017 Audi Q5 in for an Oil change and to look at an anti-freeze leak as my light came on indicating I had a leak, however the amount of fluid leaking was very minimal. I was quoted $300 for both, after an hour of it being in the shop I received a call saying that it would be at least $1,382 to replace a cracked water pump and thermostat. I was also informed that it might have a small oil leak, I have never seen oil on the ground under my car (she is always parked in the garage) and that I needed new brakes and rotors (although my brakes don't squeak, grind or shake) that would be an additional $800, I then got another call saying I needed a new alternator because the anti-freeze splashed backwards and onto it and that would be an additional $480. At this point I asked them to please not do anything more to my car. It has ALWAYS been serviced at the Audi dealership and nothing like this has ever been mentioned to me. I found it very odd that all of the sudden my car had multiple problems and major leaks. I asked them to please not do anything but what I brought the car in for (oil change and anti-freeze leak). I asked for my old pump back as well. After paying $1,242 in repairs and getting my part back it appeared that the "crack" was a new crack, almost like it was hit with a hammer. After showing it to some of my car friends they confirmed that it definitely was not an organic crack and if that crack was really there I would have lost all of my anti-freeze fluid all at once. Which was not the case. Unfortunately I do not know anything about cars and was very trusting of this guys, but I do believe I was taken advantage of and very misinformed. It is very unfortunate as I am a female and I felt that they took that and ran with it. read more

I bought a used K3500 GMC work truck about six months ago. Only 117,000 miles and other than the replacing one of the batteries and putting in a new fuel pump. It ran perfect for 4 months then little electrical gremlins started to cause it more and more issues. It finally died while I was on the freeway in Reno taking my elderly neighbor to the hospital for surgery. I had never been to Hi Tech Auto nor had I heard about them. I just looked for the highest rated garage that dealt with electrical problem. I haven't even gotten my truck back but I'm already impressed by the level of professionalism and service I observed on the shop floor. They've had it half a day and they already found several areas of burnt wire and other electrical issues that 3 previous mechanics missed completely. BEWARE!! Especially women. This place has undergone new management in the past year or so and can't be trusted as when Jim Shephard owned it previously. 8/29/21 my wife took our Chevy Astro in for an AC ventilation issue which required replacing some 1/4 rubber hosing that had rotted; $140 for diagnosing + $112 labor = $270 total. That was all fine. What really bothers me is, they tried to get her to oaky lots of expensive work it didn't need. Here's the list (written by Reese Rivera) 1) Full brake-job for $1419. I pulled each tire when i got home inspected and took pics of all 8 pads. When my brother, a master mechanic in LA saw them, he could believe it. All pads showed well more than 1/2 remaining, many 3/4. 2) Replace Alternator for $577. I took it to Oreilly's auto and they tested the charging system. It's charing fine at 13.7V and doesn't need an alternator. 3) Replace R front wheel-bearing for $516 4) Replace Suspension Ball-joint for $726 I have not yet sought a 2nd opinion on the suspension as the van drives great and makes no noise. 8/31/21 I reached out to Hi-Tech asking for an explanation but have had no response. read more

The work performed was reasonably priced. The review has more to do with the damage to my paint while my car was in the car of the shop. There were scratches all along the driverside because it was parked outside extremely close to another vehicle. I understand accidents happen. What I find most disgusting was how the owner handled this. I suggested that have the scratches buffed by a detailer and he insisted doing this himself. Instead of washing the dust and dirt accumulated, he pours lacquer thinner on a rag and proceeds to vigorously rub the dust and dirt into the paint. When that didn't work, takes polishing compound and a orbital buffer to it. Now I've taken my car to 2 detail shops, and they can't undo the damage done from the owner's actions. Took my German auto here several times. Had oil changes, 30,000 mile service, wheel alignment performed both before and after the ownership changed with the same poor results. They could not align the wheels correctly after multiple returns with problems. Found out they installed incorrect parts that caused leaks and damage. Very happy with the work these folks did on my car. I have an old (2005) Lexus--RX 330. I needed a 150,000-mile service and called around to a few shops. I went with Hi Tech since their prices were reasonable (tire balancing is HALF the cost of the other places I checked) and reviews were good. Joe, the manager, was great--really friendly man, ditto for Gabriel, the technician who worked on my car. I particularly like the fact that they don't engage in "upselling"--the euphemism for charging you for work you don't need. A while ago, another service shop told me I needed new struts. (I think this is something people say in general when your car has more than 100k miles.) These guys said, nope, the struts are not leaking--they're fine. These guys are amazing! Courteous, competent and ethical! Originally, I brought my vehicle to the dealer for brake diagnosis and they told me the rotors were warped and so I needed new pads and rotors. I didn't believe that was it and wanted to know the cause which for several hundred dollars more they told me they could dig into it further. I was already charged $140 for this diagnosis so far mind you which I refused to pay. My Spidey sense was tingling so I brought my vehicle here and explained the situation. They did a run-in test on the rotors and found them to be fine as well as the pads. Then they checked the brake lines and found air in them. A full bleed and fluid replacement later and problem solved. They fixed the problem. They didn't just start replacing expensive parts hoping it would fix the problem. They could have charged me hundreds of dollars more and I would have been none the wiser but they did the right thing and I paid about 1/3 of what I what have at the dealer for an actual fix. From now on, this is where we will bring all our family vehicles. These guys understand customer service and are competent and honest which are some of the best things I like to see in automotive repair. A+++++ read more

I had bought a new to me truck recently and the alternator was going out. Luckily I had bought a warranty with it. Called a few places around town and the shops didn't want anything to do with it and had no place to recommend. Called the dealer I bought the truck from and he gave me the number for Hi Tech. My wife called Tom and he said to bring the truck in the next day and they'd look at it to verify that it was the alternator. We got there at 8:30 the next morning. Tom was very helpful and Branton (I hope I spelled that right) came out to look at the truck. He was very professional and had a great customer service attitude. He told me the pluses of my truck and gave me a quick tour of the shop. It was very clean. Not what I expected. These guys aren't shade tree mechanics. They are very professional and good at what they do. I didn't expect to see my truck for a few days because it was a drop off. Well, we got a call about 4 o'clock that night saying that it was ready. They did a great job. No mess anywhere. My engine compartment looked better than when they started. I highly recommend these guys and look forward to using them when I need them. I took my Audi Q7 for service and check engine light diagnostics. I have always dealt with Quinn and Jimmy. I leant there is a new ownership. Looked busier with lots of technicians-which would normally be reassuring. My Audi was serviced and check engine light was checked but repair deferred. On picking my car, I was almost involved in an accident from brakes failure. I was worried that they may have tampered with my brakes during their assessment. I called the shop and Cesar spoke with me, vehemently denying that. He then advised that I quickly fix the brakes booster vacuum which was the diagnosis for the check engine light. Costs about 1500 to fix. I was skeptical because the car drove excellent despite the check engine and brakes was never an issue but now suddenly was a big deal after diagnosis-brakes failed. Moreover, I was not even informed that Brake Booster Vacuum was an urgent service that needed to be done. No one mentioned that brakes were faulty in the report at service, I would have fixed it immediately. Previous owners I think were more professional and would explain in details than what I experienced. I do not think I feel comfortable taking my German autos here anymore. Unfortunately, I may be stuck with the dealer. Will see what happens from here on!!. Sad Jimmy retired. read more
