I've never tried Sy's Pizza until yesterday, but I hear good things about it from Eugene locals. I called ahead to place an order for pick up. As a vegan, I was nervous what my options were. But luckily, the friendly staff told me they just started a vegan pizza! They have dairy free cheese, vegan sausage, vegan meatless crumbles, the crust is vegan and the garlic knots are vegan!! I was so excited! I also added on pineapple and black olives to my pizza. After half an hour I went in to pick up my pizza and the staff was very friendly. One lady told me she was super excited I ordered the vegan pizza since it's a pretty new option they have. My pizza was $18 for all my topping ad ons and the 2 garlic knots. Great deal, I have so much delicious leftovers! The vegan cheese melted well and tasted great, I think it could have been daiya brand but I'm not too sure. I was impressed by the vegan sausage, it had great texture and flavor. The meatless crumbles were ok, didn't do too much for me. Overall I'm very impressed and will definitely be ordering another vegan pie! Go give it a try!! So delicious! read more

We ordered a cheese pizza with olives and I was a little shocked to see olives cost 3$ and then we received our pizza and it was covered in olives noted for next time! We had our pizza delivered by Uber eats but I'd love to check out the inside soon. I Absolutely love this place! You can get great pizza, served in big slices, or full pies for pretty low prices. If your ever visiting the University of Oregon campus it is right on the main strip and super easy to find. The pizza is already pre made so they slide your slice back into the oven for a minute of two and there is hardly ever a wait longer than 5 minutes max. Another great thing about Sy's is that they deliver through grub hub and other delivery services so even if you don't want to leave you house they are still available to you. All around I would say top 3 pizza places in Eugene right behind track town and pegasus. read more

Late one Sunday evening, after a round of drinks, I mentioned to my husband that I had a craving for pizza, but not just any pizza. I wanted a thin, cheese and tomato bomb of a pizza, one that flops when you pick it up so you have to dangle it into your mouth or fold it like a taco. Like the ones you find walking around Manhattan at midnight. That's when my husband brought me to Sys, and it was exactly what I requested. A small and intimate venue with walls of wood paneling decorated with images of New York, photographs of guest from over the years, and a community board of eclectic mentions. The pizzas were displayed in a little window by the register. We ordered our slices, mine with mushrooms, my husband got his with olives. We also ordered a few of the garlic knots. After a short time in the large pizza oven we got to get our late night pizza on. The pizza was exactly what I wanted at that moment. It's the perfect note to end on after an evening of drinking. A large and thin crusted slice with a simple topping of cheese and marinara complimented by the familiar taste of oven char. Very simple and humble pizza, no bells and whistles. A pizza trapped in time, like the interior of Sys. A time of Taxi Drivers and Midnight Cowboys. I will definitely be back. read more

Sy's is a Eugene institution as a by-the-slice lunch spot for U of O students. Is it the best pizza in town? Nope. Ambiance - Awesome, like someone dropped a pizzeria out of NYC into Eugene by airlift helicopter. How long has that Beatles photo been tacked up on the wall near the entrance? For practically as long as I can remember. It's got the swivel seats and the napkin dispensers that you take an irresponsible number of napkins from and then toss on the bar after you leave like a true NY jerkoff would. A tiny little joint but it's what you'd want it to be. Food - This might be the weakest part. Yes, the pizza looks like a NYC slice, and it comes served like an NYC slice, you can fold it like a NYC slice - but that's where is stops. The flavor itself is much more sour and cheap tasting than I would have guessed. The cheese tastes like frozen Tyson Factories cheese dumped into a cold pan and the sauce seems to lack herbs. It's fine if you're stopping in for one slice, but it doesn't age well as a whole pie that you take home and eat the next day. And good lord - $26.00 for a large pepperoni? My god. I hate to say this but you can get five (5!) Little Caesar's Hot-N-Ready's that taste only marginally worse. I'd rather get garbage for 5 dollars than just so-so quality pies for over 5x that price. Service - Good people work there, very Eugene-ian. Pretty groovy and quick service. No complaints and I've never not been helped or had questions answered. A cool place to take a photo, or take someone from NYC to if they're craving, but there's better pizza out there that's cheaper and easy to find all over Eugene. read more

I have had real Sicilian pizza, and I was at first very excited that I could get it here in Oregon. I was very disappointed. I had it delivered, and when it arrived, it was cold. Some sort of paper they put over top of the cheese pizza cause the cheese to harden to the paper, and I could not get it off. So pizza with no cheese. But that is not my major complaint. Sicilian pizza has such a thick crust that it is important that the dough is really high-quality. This was tasteless. read more

Do not and I repeat do not order this pizza!! It arrived cold and looked as if it was from the freezer. The pineapple was obviously added after the pizza was already cooked and was horrible. I called to ask about the pizza and the girl who answered the phone could barely conduct a conversation and she put the chef on the phone not the manager or owner who proceeded to tell me that is how they do it there. You can always tell quality pizza by the crust and this place has it. We got 2 slices of cheese and devoured them. The white pizza with fresh cheese was really good and the ricotta came out nice and gooey. The sauce on the neopolitan isn't too salty or too sweet. This was my first time at Sy's I've lived on the east coast for a couple of years and I cannot stop thinking of the pizza!!! I was very excited to find this "New York style" pizza and it being the "best in Eugene" it had to be good.. well.. 33 $ later, a large pepperoni & olive w/ 6 garlic knots and I am not very satisfied. Honestly, it is not New York style pizza at all. My husband wanted Sys Pizza because he hadn't had it for years. I got him a New York Style pizza and I got a Sicilian Deep Dish. He liked his! Mine (on the other hand), was a huge disappointment. The crust was so heavy and almost burnt. The toppings were just ok ( they forgot the sausage). Some of the cheese was so thick it was hard to stomach. It was nothing like I was anticipating. The five star rating is for what they call their "deep dish" Sicilian. + It's not deep dish in the Chicago sense, but it's the thicker kind of pizza with a crunchy bottom that in Italy a bakery or a pizzeria "al taglio" would serve you. Their NY style pizza is also good, in both its tomato sauce, and white sauce versions, but I never order it anyway. Service is quick and they add fresh toppings on the slices at the last minute. One thing I like about this place is that they have people send them pictures from all over the world, while wearing a Sy's t-shirt. read more

So me and my friend had some coupons and this place had one for the large pizza and you save $2 on it. We got a large pizza and it was around $18...but it was huge! It was 18 inches in diameter and so me and my friend had about 2 pieces and we were full. The pizza was pretty good and i'm glad we picked this place to get pizza than the other choices. It was around 9pm and it was not crowded. There was like one guy in there eating his slice of pizza. It's a pretty small place but there were a couple places to eat in there. The workers were pretty nice and at the time there was a new worker so he was shown how to use the coupon. I don't exactly understand what makes it a New York style pizza, but it was huge. This is the only REAL pizza in Eugene/Springfield, maybe in Lane County. Yeah, I grew up in New York, but I've been in Eugene maybe almost as long as Sy, and a steady customer ever since I first discovered his campus shop back when I was in grad school at the U of O. This is real New York pizza, made and sold the way you would get it back in NY. Sure, you can muck it up with weird toppings like pineapple and ham, if you really want to. But I forgive Sy for that -- he's in Oregon, has to make a living, and so has to throw a bone to the natives now and then. For me, I'll take it straight, or with one of the only five toppings that were allowed in pizzarias where I grew up: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, or onions. Oh, and his deep dish offering is the only authentic Sicilian style pizza I've found on the west coast. Go Sy! Check it out. read more

I highly recommend the Sicilian slices. One or two cheese slices will fill you up, toppings can get expensive on individual slices. The sauce is very good, the cheese good quality, the thick crust is just the right amount of crunchy and chewy with a nice crispy exterior. The Sicilian pizzas are half-cooked, and reheated to finish the crust and heat it up. Douse it with dried oregano and parmesan and you're all set. For what the place is, it's absolutely amazing. The employees always greet me and ask how my day is, and serve the pizza immediately. Even when there's a rush, they're attentive and have their priorities straight every time. I've encountered the owner many times and he's super friendly as well! I'm a strong advocate for supporting small businesses, and Sy's is precisely why. It's way better as opposed to going to some of the noisier, less friendly places around town. Don't add extra cheese! It's way too much lol. But overall this is mine and my boyfriends new favorite pizza in Eugene. The sauce is vey yummy not too seasoned and not too sweet. It's floppy and foldable which is my fav type of pizza. They add way too many toppings, and I wish they had red peppers as an option, but you can pick the extra toppings off so it's not really a bad thing in my opinion. We ordered Sy's via Yelp/Grubhub on our walk home last night and the driver arrived perfectly on time at our hotel with a piping-hot pizza. I was a little thrown off by the cost of the large, but when traveling and using a delivery service, higher prices are to be expected. HOWEVER, the pizza was huge and well worth the price. We ordered the vegetarian, which was excellent and loaded with veggies. The sauce, cheese, and crust are delicious and a great departure from pizza chain mediocrity. We're going to have to try some of their other pizzas soon. read more

I've never had authentic New York Pizza, but if it's anything like Sy's than I'll pass. Simple? Yes. Fast? Yes. Cheap? Relatively. But what happened to taste? The cheese is barely existent, the sauce is bland, and the crust was too flaky. If you're high and/or drunk and looking for a quick fix, than Sy's is passable. But if you're looking for good pizza, you might want to skip this place. The only thing I did find to live up to its name is the "garlic knots." Sy's was the first restaurant I went to in Eugene, a town without any real top-notch pizza places. Eugene has a variety of pizza styles to choose from though, and I think Sy's does well representing this style. I usually just get a cheese slice, because their method of applying the other toppings after the primary cooking is a little wonky, but I love the crust, and the price is great. Sy's holds a special place in my heart.. A good friend of mine and I use to always skip school, ride the bus down call each other in sick from the pay phone on the corner and grab a few slices. I'm not a fan of "gourmet" pizza, I like my crust thin and my toppings greasy. Sy's delivers on both. Throw a few garlic knots on for .25 and you've got yourself a filling lunch for about 5 bucks. So the fiancé and I joined a cross fit gym (review to follow) and we finished our first work-out and we decided to treat ourselves to a few slices. To add to that we've been eating primarily Paelo the last few weeks with both of us seeing really decent results. So we've tried Papa's (won't dine there again), Track Town, not bad for a buffet and the pizza comes in various flaves to get your variety on) I'd go back, Figaro's (easy delivery service but overpriced and on the weak side), Sizzle Pie not a bad slice but not making me have to return, and lastly Sy's. I'm originally from NY and I know a good slice of pie. The first three places I visited pale in comparison to a slice of NY-Goodness. I have to say, opening the door at Sy's had a welcome aroma of home town smells. Might we have found our local shop to grab a slice to give in to the carb gods? Quite possibly!!! We both ordered a traditional slice (GF added Pepperoni to hers) and a slice of Sicilian and a few garlic knots. The slices are about the most resembling of NY pizza as I have come to cherish. The Sicilian was fun and by that I mean it was a gluttonous treat. Back to the traditional slice - The crust was crispy and tasty. The slices are for the most part pre-made and you decide on what toppings you want added. This means that the additional toppings are added and just cooked on top rather than in the mix. The sauce is a little on the sweet side for me but that is me being EXTREMELY picky. I would definitely go back but I am still going to try out other pizza shops in the Spring/Eug area. Not basing my 4 stars on it but the parking situation is not fun as it is in the heart of UofO country. I am sure we will be back to enjoy some carbs a la Italian influence :) read more

First things first: "New York" pizza is nothing to brag about. New York is a city of superlatives, arguably the greatest city on Earth. From Madison Avenue to Yankee Stadium, there is no place like it...but I've spent years there and feel obligated to report that for all its glamour, sophistication, and excellence, New York does not have exceptionally good pizza. Pizza aficionados know that Chicago (for deep-dish lovers) and Connecticut (for thin-crust types) rule the American pizza roost. So, before you visit, realize that this restaurant was named by someone who didn't particularly know his pizza. That's a pretty fair way to set your expectations. On a more positive note, Sy's has been around in its convenient Alder Street location forever, makes big ol' pies, and sells them by the slice. I credit them for this, but the slice offering is made poorer by the fact that they put the toppings on just before reheating each slice, rather than baking them on the way REAL New York pizzerias do, and the toppings tend to fall off accordingly. It's on campus, open late, affordable, and a much-adored Eugene icon. The pizza's just okay by New York standards, or even by Eugene standards. There are quite a few places that are better, even here in Eugene, another town not exactly renowned for outstanding pizza, or for that matter, restaurant food in general. The sauce is rather bland, the pizzas unusually greasy, the crust unexceptional...aside from the size, there is nothing that sets Sy's pizzas apart from the crowd. Sy's is especially not the place to go if you are into veggie pizza - the rather ordinary selection of vegetables is neither high-quality nor generously applied - but is a good selection if you like an exceptionally greasy, gooey cheese pizza. The service varies...sometimes they have a decent person working there for a while, a lot of times it bites. Obviously, the owner (I'm told it hasn't been Sy for a long time now) doesn't give a damn about the service. And, while you can cop a squat (literally) on the decades-old, uncomfortably low stools and eat while viewing yourself and your fellow diners in the mirrored walls, it's not a great place to eat, which is why the great majority of Sy's patrons take their pizza to go. You cannot graduate from UO without having a slice, or at least some garlic knots if you are one of those vegan types. On the other hand, if you're a townie, you probably don't eat at Sy's regularly...those of us who have lived here a while have found better places, and mostly leave Sy's to the UO crowd. By all means, check it out; if you're gonna live in Eugene, you might as well be familiar with Sy's. read more
