I called about a month ahead of time and requested a reservation for a proposal celebration dinner. I requested a private table that could possibly be secluded for two. I had called back a week prior just to confirm and spoke to Derek. He informed me he set a reminder in his phone to start the setup a night before. I called last minute to push the reservation back an hour and they did not have any issue. We showed up and we were walked to our table by Derek. We strolled through the beautiful restaurant, all the way to their enclosed warm patio. There, they set up a private table arranged for two and it was decorated different than their other tables. Two large beautiful leather chairs were placed (I did not see these chairs anywhere else in the restaurant). They had two glasses full of San Pellegrino topped with lime (I didn't even ask for this) enhanced with gold color plates and other beautiful dinner settings. The heaters were on, our table was set behind a counter which blocked anyone's view from looking in and the ceiling was lit by beautiful string lights and they even left the patio doors shut which made it even more private. It made us feel very special. Derek began by saying to my finance "he had a special dinner planned for you tonight". He then introduced the our very friendly waitress Jennifer. Jennifer was awesome! She was super friendly and provided great service. We ordered a virgin margarita and strawberry daiquiri and two dinner specials. A full rack of pork ribs topped with an onion tower and double backed potato and salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables and ended with tiramisu aided by a carved strawberry and looked like a rose. Switchback Grille was recommended by multiple users when I asked for an upscale restaurant in the area on the forum here. The food was delicious and they provided great portions. We were also checked on by about two to three other waiters and waitresses. Derek also came back twice to see how everything was going! I have never been treated so well at any other restaurant, ever! Switchback Grille, I truly appreciated your establishment. I can not explain how special this dinner was and how it made us feel. We just had dinner at this restaurant. Both of us ordered the 11oz filet and it was outstanding. Our side was asparagus and I also ordered s Caesar salad. The asparagus was very good, large spears lightly grilled. The Caesar salad had a couple of anchovies on top that is not to my liking. It's my fault for not asking for the salad minus the anchovies(just ate around them). I did read previous reviews on this restaurant regarding alcohol. State liquor laws require establishments serving liquor to follow certain criteria. For example; Martinis can only be made with 1oz of alcohol. As we all know a martini needs a bit more alcohol. Otherwise, service could been a bit more attentive for this high end restaurant. If you are think about trying this steakhouse I suggest you review the menu before deciding and understand they are limited by law on how drinks are made. read more

My son was brought the wrong entree and when they finally brought out the correct one we were all done with our meals. We chose this place because not many things were open at 7:30pm in Springdale. This was one of the few restaurants on the list that we hadn't already eaten at and had Yelp reviews in the 4 starts. It was also very close to our hotel. It's a bit pricing for what you get. Let me just say I have no problem shelling out $30-50 on and entrée and $12 on a cocktail, but it better be perfect. The scallops ($34 I think) were good, flavorful, light sear (could have been harder), and not gritty, the foots were also removed, which believe it or not does not happen everywhere. It came with either 5 or 6, I can't remember which. The scallops sat on top of huge mounds of mashed potatoes and were served with mixed veges, that could have been cooked a tad bit longer. I hate wasting food and I don't think it would be possible for anyone to eat that many potatoes. We ere leaving the next morning, so taking them to our hotel didn't work. My honey had the Sea Bass special ($38 I think) which came in a soy sauce with rice and vegetables. The fish was good, but the Asian sauce it came with was incredibly spicy. Walked in tonight and asked for a table for 2. This is our first time ever visit here. The lady at the front said they didn't have openings. So we went to the gift shop to check it out. Then we see her let in a table of 5 (without reservations) and a table of 4 also without reservations. She clearly was homophobic and racist, as we are a lesbian couple and women of color. Came here with hesitation due to some of the reviews. Because of the wait we had dinner at the bar and had Katie as our server. She is also the sole bartender. Food was absolutely great (creamed spinach was the bomb). Steaks were cooked to perfection. The best part was the service by Katie. Me and my wife, along with another couple, visited the Switchback Grille for dinner on a Monday night around 5:20pm. We were kind of early for the dinner crowd so the restaurant was basically empty. We were seated promptly at a nice table and our server greeted us shortly thereafter. She was a very friendly and pleasant young lady. No issues. Everyone is happy. After our drinks were quickly served to the table, our server took our dinner order. Nothing out of the ordinary, no special order or preparation requests. Standard off-the-menu steaks and salmon. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more The two tables nearest to us actually turned-over twice before we finished our meals. For some unexplained reason, our dinners literally took forever to get served. We were wondering if our server forgot to tell the kitchen. Keep in mind, the place isn't even that busy yet. The other guy in our party went to the restroom and along the way you can look into a window and see inside the kitchen. When he returned, he said they didn't look like they were cooking anything. Weird... Anyway, we didn't complain and our server offered-up no explanation, so we just ate and left. I really appreciated the relaxing ambiance of this place after a long day of hiking. There are two fireplaces in the dining room which makes for a cozy experience. Bread served was memorable because it was fresh out of the oven and delicious. The meatloaf was also very good and was served with flavorful mashed potatoes. A decent wine list was available with reasonable prices. Plus, you can buy wine by the bottle in the store attached to the restaurant. I was impressed with their selection and overall prices. Just be aware: no buying alcohol on Sundays. We will definitely return. read more

We had the Breakfast Buffet which was offered FREE as a complimentary part of staying at the Best Western hotel, adjacent to the restaurant. The Breakfast Buffet I think is held between 7am to 10am (or that's what Best Western said the voucher was good for). The selection was basic and nice, having fresh cut fruit, oatmeal, french toast, waffles, pancakes, bagels, croissants, muffins, bread, eggs, bacon, sausage, roasted potatoes, cereal, yogurt and a fresh made to order custom omelet station. The only thing missing in my opinion was corned beef hash, my personal favorite for breakfast food items. There weren't any "signature" dishes that separated this from other eateries or even a Denny's, IHOP, etc type diner, which isn't necessarily a bad thing more than not being remarkable or outstanding from that perspective. The food quality was good. The service is mainly self-service aside from getting seated and having the plates and tables cleared. You can get your own drinks (juice, coffee, milk, etc.) which is convenient. This "does the job" in filling the belly before taking an adventure over at Zion National Park and fueling up with the most important meal of the day... Breakfast! read more

My husband and I took a road trip to Zion National Park for our anniversary and ended up here for dinner after a day of hiking. Switchback was just the perfect romantic atmosphere we were looking for. The busboys were so attentive and friendly. There was never a single time that my glass of water was half empty. I got the meatloaf and my husband got the buffalo spaghetti. My husband said his food was ok, but it was the first time he tried buffalo. My food, on the other hand, was one of the best dishes I've had! Each bite was as savory as the last and the sauce on it was very delicious. I saved half my plate to eat for when we went back home. The Macadamia nut crusted Chilean Sea Bass was great, the coconut risotto that came with it was awesome, the Bacon Wrapped Napoleon Meatloaf was fantastic, and Blake, our waiter, was wonderful. He did make a mistake when charging our card and the explanation about how he fixed it didn't make sense so he sent his manager over. That guy was hopefully having a really bad day because when he was still two steps away from our table he said in his best "I'm in charge" tone and posture, "YOU WERE ONLY CHARGED" the amount I was supposed to be. I explained that the voided receipt didn't look right and didn't understand how it was fixed. Well, Mr. Manager got so angry he was shaking, stormed off, and got the original receipt front the trash. He then proceeded to tell me that it wasn't even my card on the original charge, but it in fact was, UNLESS of course someone else has the exact same information that shows on receipts. So then he quite angrily told me how the problem was solved and why it looked weird. I thanked him and he left. We paid, and went to the gift shop. While we were in the gift shop we got to hear Mr. Manager tell the nice lady in the gift shop how he had put me in my place and how ridiculous I was for wanting clarification on the wrong charge. So to sums up: food excellent Subordinates pretty great Manager angry tool. I wonder how the rest got to be so good when he is the kind of person he is. Like I said, hopefully he was just having a bad day and we got to be the outlet. It's most unfortunate that he wouldn't even let it go and decided to keep bashing customers while, what he thought were other customers around. Let's start with the things that made this experience an unforgettable one. Ordered sparkling water, got a still one, because the sparkling was out. Ordered a well done wagyu and got a medium one. Ordered a muscat desert wine, was out. Ordered an other muscat wine, got a tawny port (at the end, this port ended on my shirt and shorts as a result of the first discussion about the desert wine with the bar keeper). Second discussion with the management about their desert wine menus composition ended in a pat situation, because there was no common sense regarding the differences of a muscat wine and port wine. It was nice not to charge the port even if it was poured on me accidentally (I brought the bar keeper out of balance). The service was nice and tried his best to fulfill expectations. It was very good to wait for the first cut, if the meat expects guest wishes. The remark regarding the wagyu was corrected immediately and served by the manager himself. Also the ending discussion with the manager showed dedication. My New York medium was perfect and tasted delicious AND the mashed potatoes was the first since days without any pell inside (I learned that the pell should give the mash potatoes a more ground taste ... on an other restaurant on an other much hotter and dryer place). Some tips/feedback from my side: To come from a medium to a well done small sliced steak, put it back to the grill will burn it black. Perhaps some minutes in a stove can come to the same result but without drying it out. Steamed broccoli tasted better with some butter on it. A bit more buttermilk I the mashed potatoes would lead to a smoother taste. Knowing your products and didn't try to convince someone from the wrong especially if the guest is well skilled in this area. The service should know if something is out of stock and inform the guest. If you see that a guest isn't satisfied by things going wrong, offer him something like a coffee or an ice (that he can decline but feel better regarding your dedication). If you know, that a guest sitting on a table smelling like a bottle of tawny that was poured on him - a simple "sorry" isn't helpful. Things happen and I guess my wife and I catches a bad day .. so this is the cause of 3 instead of 2 stars. read more

Unfortunately we were disappointed in the service and three out of four meals. When we asked the waiter about a couple of wines he told us he doesn't drink wine and could not help us with the selection. It might have been nice if he gave us a little information--or send someone over to assist with the selection. We did order a bottle. We were served our salads and bread plates were put out, we had to ask for the bread, more water, etc, As far as the dinner, it was over an hour before our lukewarm entrees were served. We went here two times this weekend. It's in the same parking lot as our hotel. It seemed like the staff was a bit stuffy when we came for dinner. They insisted we sit out on the patio an then it was kind of putting them out when we asked them to turn on the heater. It warmed up nice once it was finally turned on. We got seated in the same seats as last night but this time the window was closed and the heaters were blazing. Once we got them to turn it off so it wasn't 900 degrees it was great! I was excited to see melons in the buffet until I tasted them. Watermelon was old and kind of slimy. Ick! Cantelope wasn't food at all. The cute little waffles they had were good but would have been better if they were warm. The potatoes were fantastic! So.... How many times do you have to send a steak back before they cook it correctly? I'm not entirely sure, and apparently neither are the so-called chefs of this would be establishment. We all requested our Ribeye steaks to be cooked "medium", or about 140 internal temp. After the third attempt, and 2 hrs later, I asked the waiter kindly to please ride the once again blue steak back to the culinarily inept chef and cancel our order. The manager, who's name I cannot recall, was of no help whatsoever and seemed quite bothered by our complaint/request for a properly cooked medium steak, even suggesting to "warm it up." He looked a bit hungry as well. Perhaps he had also fallen victim to the same still breathing cow that was served to us? ‍ All in all, El Pollo Fuerte gives this so-called "steak house" a 1.5 out of 5, and the .5 is only because our waiter, who's name I also cannot recall, was actually very polite and understanding. If you happen to be passing thru Springdale, UT and Have NO OTHER CHOICE but to eat here, I would advise you to stop by the local Burger King first and scoop up their chef on your way in, because that's probably the only chance you're going to have at a properly cooked steak for dinner from this place. read more

We were very disappointed in our experience here. We ordered an appetizer and a salad and everything, including our entrées, were brought out at the same time. We asked that they take the entrées back and wait until we were finished with our appetizer. When the brought the meals out the second time, they were not hot. We let the waitress know and she sent them back to be reheated. They then brought one meal out and at least 15 minutes later brought the other meal out.
