So.... How many times do you have to send a steak back before they cook it correctly? I'm not entirely sure, and apparently neither are the so-called chefs of this would be establishment. We all requested our Ribeye steaks to be cooked "medium", or about 140 internal temp. After the third attempt, and 2 hrs later, I asked the waiter kindly to please ride the once again blue steak back to the culinarily inept chef and cancel our order. The manager, who's name I cannot recall, was of no help whatsoever and seemed quite bothered by our complaint/request for a properly cooked medium steak, even suggesting to "warm it up." He looked a bit hungry as well. Perhaps he had also fallen victim to the same still breathing cow that was served to us? ‍ All in all, El Pollo Fuerte gives this so-called "steak house" a 1.5 out of 5, and the .5 is only because our waiter, who's name I also cannot recall, was actually very polite and understanding. If you happen to be passing thru Springdale, UT and Have NO OTHER CHOICE but to eat here, I would advise you to stop by the local Burger King first and scoop up their chef on your way in, because that's probably the only chance you're going to have at a properly cooked steak for dinner from this place. read more

We were very disappointed in our experience here. We ordered an appetizer and a salad and everything, including our entrées, were brought out at the same time. We asked that they take the entrées back and wait until we were finished with our appetizer. When the brought the meals out the second time, they were not hot. We let the waitress know and she sent them back to be reheated. They then brought one meal out and at least 15 minutes later brought the other meal out. We expected more from a "fine dining" restaurant. In our opinion, there are much better places in town who know what a fine dining experience should be. read more

I ordered a $56 NY Strip cooked medium. It was so tough that I asked the waitress to cut it and she couldn't cut though it. They are swapping out cheap cuts of meat and selling it as NY Steak for $56. Do yourself a favor and don't wast your money at this scam restaurant. To add to it my wife ordered a filet medium and it was cooked medium well. We also watched food servers delivering food to the wrong tables on multiple occasions. The positive: The new waitress (thai) was great, super nice and responsive. The steak (ribeye) was good (not great) but good. Nicely seasoned. The dessert (creme brulee) was excellent. The negative: the salmon was really bad. We first ordered it and when it came out, my daughter was eating it. about 5 bites in, we noticed that the inside was raw. We spoke to the waitress and she returned it and ordered a new one. Ok, by the time we were all done with our food, her new salmon arrived. We cut into it immediately and noticed it raw in the inside again. It's really a flash cook on the inside with raw in the inside. We sent it back and instead of waiting another 30 minutes for a flash salmon, we decided to cancel the order, which gladly they did. 5 minutes later the manager came by and said that their salmon is made this way. What? That wasn't disclosed in the menu or told to us by the waiter. Oh well. They said if they cooked it through it will be too dry. Maybe they need to change the menu. So, the only reason why this place is receiving a 3 star review, and not 2, is because the ENTREES were quite delicious. A bit of backstory: It was my 31st birthday, and I wanted to spend it in Zion (never been). My boyfriend decided to take me to a nice restaurant (lack of nice restaurants around here). I chose this place since it was close to where we were staying, plus drinking and driving isn't a great idea. Perfect! He called and made a reservation and told the gal on the phone it was my birthday. She "put it down in the notes" and we were set. The night we arrived, it was not busy. We were second in line to meet the host (he saw us, since we made eye contact...magical =P). There was an older couple (maybe 70s) who strolled in. The host greeted them and ask them if they had a reservation. They replied, no. The host, then looked at us and told us to wait while he seated the party of 2...(what a conscience, we were a party of 2). He said our table was being prepared (ok.......). When were were finally walked to our table, what do you know, there were several tables available, and the couple seated before us were sitting in a similar area. And so it began... The inside of the restaurant was very stunning. The scene from the window, breathtaking. The ambiance was calm and relaxing- not too noisy either. Our server was very polite. We ordered drinks, and appetizer, and our entrees. The appetizer we received was the fresh mozzarella. This looked store bought and kinda cheap. The presentation was pretty pitiful. It tasted mediocre, nothing special. I ordered the ribeye and my boyfriend ordered the venison. Both of these meals where scrumptious. The meat was cooked just right. The favors were very good. The side of mushrooms I ordered were on point! Looking up, right? Wrong... After our entrees, our server asked us if we wanted dessert. I was hesitant since I was SO FULL, but we took the menu anyway. A couple other tables were celebrating birthdays around us. They received complimentary dessert with a candle. Our server came back to our table to see if we were ready to order. Either the birthday message was not relayed to our server, or he forgot. This frustrated my boyfriend, considering he made the reservation when I was not around to hear him mention it was my birthday. My bf was annoyed because he had to remind him (while I was in the restroom). Kind of defeats the purpose. Once we were finished, the server brought the check and set it down facing me. Realizing the positioning of the bill, I did not peek at the cost. My boyfriend slipped his card in and set off for the restroom himself. The server came, picked up the check, and returned it while my boyfriend was in the restroom. He set the check down on the table facing open with no pen and told me to have a good night and walked away. Again I did not peek. I have never been to a fancy restaurant where any server did this. Kind of rude... We returned home a bit let down. Our host at the bed and breakfast we were staying at greeted us. She asked us about our time. We told her it was "mehh". She agreed. Turns out, 2 other parties that were staying at the same place said their experience was horrible as well. We will not be coming back. Like other posts here, eat local. For traveling vegans: l was there is week, but part of a tour group, so no private table menu review with this writeup. The restaurant changed the reservation time, but the tour guides didn't have enough time to inform all the guests, so 3 of us went at the original time. I asked if I could have some of the pasta on the buffet with no cheese. Cheese was sprinkled on top. The waitress said, sorry this is all we have. I ate dry salad and corn on the cob. I had real food back in my room-I highly recommend going to Sol Foods Market. They have vegan prepared food and frozen meals. The vegetable wrap was so fresh and tasty and the quinoa and veggie stuffed pepper in prepared foods was amazing. read more

One of the best dinners I have had in a long time. Ordered a special - salmon Oscar style with 4 cheese mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted so good. Even the complimentary bread was fantastic. One of the best meals I have had in a while. We came in and asked to make a reservation. They said a 40 minute wait for a table of 3. No problem we understand it's Zion in summer. The problem arose when two other groups the same size came in while we were waiting without reservations and were seated before us. After almost an hour wait we left to find food elsewhere. The decor was nice but everything else rates from mediocre to poor. Four of us were looking for a nice place to celebrate a great week in Zion. Two of us had steaks while the others had seafood. The seafood dishes looked and tasted like you would expect for the price. The steaks on the other hand were awful. They were cold, unseasoned and chewy. The service was ok. The server was nice but slow and forgetful. We had to ask for additional drinks or refills more than once after ordering them 10 minutes prior. Remember the old expression, "lipstick on a pig"? Well, that fits here perfectly. Three star food, one star service, five star prices. We were in this area for a wedding - fourteen of us looking for a nice place to share a grand meal in style, to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. Staff got of on the wrong foot right away - they wanted to split us up into separate tables which would have had us too far apart and half of us sitting with our backs turned towards each other, seemingly to accommodate staff so not all of us were seated in one staffers section. That was not an option for us and they seemed inflexible until we decided to walk out. Then they decided they could seat us together, end to end, but there had to be a big gap between the tables or it would be a fire code violation. Somehow we still wound up with two different sets of wait staff.... to insure wait personnel had equal customer seating in their sections. Definitely not something customers should have been bothered with. The decor was upscale and tasteful, the menus large, bound affairs, with separate wine lists etc. It seemed like the perfect place. But the service was slow, catch as catch can, the wait staff was poorly trained, and the kitchen staff was not capable of serving large parties. We finally all got our orders placed... The first table of seven were served and halfway finished with their meals when five of the other meals were brought to the second table. Two people were left waiting a good ten minutes after that for their meals. None of the steaks were worth anywhere near the $47 price tags. While cooked to order, they were bland and not very flavorful. The five little scallops sitting atop mounds of mashed potatoes were of decent flavor and quality, but nowhere near worth their $31 price tag. Honestly, we've had better fare at Texas Roadhouse for a fraction of the price, and much better service to boot. This restaurant pretends to be a somewhat exclusive, high-class, upscale restaurant. And to be fair, the facility is very nicely appointed, but the reality is that the food is too marginal and the service too poor to command those exorbitant prices. The food is expensive and very mediocre--blah bread and balsamic; tuna with a big pat of wasabi paste and very uncomplimentary vinegary lemon sauce; chicken salad with chicken that looks like small white boxes on a huge bed of greens with more of that balsamic sauce. Have these guys ever tasted their food--it doesn't work! The wine list is hilarious--think of a $7 grocery store label for $39.00 a bottle. We were staying at the hotel next door, and my husband was craving steak, so we thought we'd give it a try. Walking in from a day on the trails, I felt a little under dressed for the fancy interior, but the host and waitstaff were welcoming and didn't even bat an eye at our dirty boots. We were sat in front of huge windows with views of the canyon walls, which was a nice treat. They have a full bar menu, and we ordered a couple local IPA's. For food, my husband ordered the 11 oz filet and mashed potatoes and I ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Both meals were amazing (steak was cooked to perfection, which is a big deal). We finished with a tasty creme brûlée. Our waiter was on point, funny and attentive. Great experience, and we would come here again for a celebration dinner next time we're in Zion. read more

I can't complain much about Switchback Grille. We came here late one night, around 9:30 on a busy Saturday, and were pleased to see no wait to enter and a pretty solid menu. We decided to sit at the bar because it was easier and proceeded to order some drinks and food. I had the soup, salad, and sandwich combo and my friend got a Santa Fe chicken burger. We were both really pleased with our food and drinks, but the best part was the casual, relaxed atmosphere and pleasant staff. It was all just what we needed after an endless day of hiking in the morning at Bryce Canyon and all afternoon and evening in Zion. I probably won't return for a while, though, just because it seems like there's so many other great restaurants to try in Springdale, but if I'm ever at a loss, I'll definitely know where to go for a tasty bite and good company. read more

BIG THUMBS DOWN. Not awesome for weddings!! I worked a wedding here in April with the other two yelpers who wrote a review about their experience with Switchback, specifically with Kristen. She was terrible to work with, mean to the bride, mean to us as coordinators, she was even mean to the families(!) of the couple too! Incredibly unprofessional! She even tried to tell us at the end of the night as we were cleaning up that we couldn't use he dumpsters at the restaurant to throw our garbage away. That we were supposed to load all our garbage up in our cars and find another dumpster "somewhere else" to dispose of our trash. UNBELIEVABLE! We told her this was ridiculous and that we needed to throw our trash away at her restaurant since it was the VENUE... hello?! She finally agreed in a passive aggressive tone, firmly struck the arm of my colleague and said her staff would "save us and help us out" by throwing the garbage away. AVOID AVOID AVOID if your even considering having your wedding or any portion of your wedding here. read more

Great View: Giant floor-to-ceiling windows look towards the west side of the valley, beautiful at sunrise and sunset. The dining room is sparsly laid out and was nearly empty by the time we placed our order. Seems a lot of people who made reservations bailed on them. (see: Overpriced) Good-not great-Service: Our server was super friendly and accommodating, but there was an issue. When one of our party (a petite woman) ordered the porterhouse, he neglected to tell her it was a 27-oz steak. Not only couldn't she eat 27 ounces of beef (which I doubt any of us could) she specified that she wanted "A STEAK." A good waiter would suggest the best steak on the menu. A great waiter would take into account her tiny frame and suggest the best steak on the menu that a normal person could eat in one sitting. Food: I wouldn't write home about it- in fact this is my shortest part of the review. It was filling, but nothing stood out to me. I can't even remember exactly what I ate! Overpriced: for two people who drank water, had two appetizers, and two mid-priced (on this menu) entrees, the bill was $130. I call that RIDICULOUS. I get that this is the "season" in a "Resort Town" and this place is "nice" but that is exorbitant. Being inside the Best Western we didn't expect much of an atmosphere here, however we were pleasantly surprised by the dining rooms ceiling to floor picture windows and stunning view of the red rock mountains the surround Springdale. We were not very hungry and wanted to order light, so we order two items from the starter and salad menu. We order a fantastic Scallop dish as an appetizer and the BLACKENED SALMON SALAD which included Cajun Spiced Blackened Salmon, Avocado, Asparagus, Artichoke Hearts and Citrus Vinaigrette. The steaks here appeared a little pricey, however the early bird special had an excellent price. The dining room appeared to be filled with Spingdale locals taking advantage of the special which included a large sirloin steak, potatoes, vegetable, salad and desert for $20. We were happy with our meal and would return once we have exhausted the other choices in town. read more

We came to the restaurant at 9 after a day of driving, and they could seat us when two other restaurants couldn't. The waiter was friendly and helpful, but there was one busser that knocked some plates off the table and they broke, so there was that. Our food took a while to arrive considering that we didn't order much, we ordered the arugula salad, two kids steaks, and the chicken dish. The arugula salad was pretty good, and the kids steaks were advertised as New York strip but were much tougher and chewier...it was still ok though. Was in town after doing some offroading in the area and visiting friends in the area. Father had fond memories of this place from this spring and was insistent that he get a steak here. After brushing up on the reviews it looked like the place was still in a downwards spiral. The old man was buying so I really didn't object. I'll cut to the chase, the owner needs to make a serious effort to get to the root of why this place has dropped off so badly in such a short period of time. While it's cute that he tries to answer or explain every review, the bottom line is that on a good night this place is mediocre. For the prices they are charging , the food should be perfect. It just isn't. It's uninspired, poorly cooked food. I'm torn on giving this place a higher rating because I had an excellent meal there back in the spring. Unfortunately, the last two outings have been abysmal. Can't bring myself higher than to give them a one. Maybe the drop in reviews will spur the owner to make some much needed changes. read more

I think people sell this place a little short. The restaurant seems to aspire to franchise-ism, and the reviews were a little lackluster, so I was hesitant. We sat on the patio area (really nice) on a beautiful evening, which helped. Service was excellent. Dad got a bloody mary, which was well-done. Calamari appetizer came on a bed of vegetables, and was actually soft, good calamari. We saw someone else getting served the meatloaf, which hooked 2 of us.
