The food was Ok. The customer service was disappointing. I came during the Halloween Parade and purchased five meals and took them outside to my family watching the parade. Five minutes later my daughter needed the restroom and I walked back up to the store, but they had locked the door prior to close with customers still in line (probably wanted to make sure they didn't get new customers after the posted close time). I stood by the door and when someone opened it to leave, I stood near the doorway and asked the store employee (that just made my five meals and knew I was a customer), if my daughter could quickly use the restroom before they closed. She walked over and said "no, we are closed now" and started closing the door. I don't think she realized or did it on purpose, but she closed the door on my daughter's foot. Even if she did not see her foot, it was absolutely shocking that a restaurant with customers still inside refused a restroom to a young child that was a paying customer. Food wise, the ingredients were fresh and it tasted good. I prefer the taste and price at Chopt, but it was still pretty good. read more

Sweet Leaf is known as a community cafe that has several locations in the VA area (Ballston, Courthouse, McLean, and Vienna); they use local ingredients on their menu, which offers items such as sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, sweets, smoothies/shakes, and a kid's menu. I tried their Asian Chicken salad (to-go), which came with mixed leaves, chopped Romaine, grilled chicken, Mandarin orange slices, bean sprouts, crispy wontons, almond slices, sesame seeds, and a plum dressing. All these items are thrown in a big stainless bowl and tossed, and whether you're getting it to go or staying to dine-in, is then served. The salad itself was just okay; I was a little surprised that it was served warm, rather than cold. The plum dressing was a little less savory and less flavorful than I thought, and I think it would have been better if a peanut-based type of dressing was used instead. I liked that the ingredients are not pre-made, so you can actually opt out or add in ingredients, customizing your salad the way you like. I came in here initially to try out their shakes, but was a little disappointed that it was just Haagen-Dazs and that they were all out of some of the flavors. The staff here are super friendly and so kind & so nice, and the little cafe itself is very cute - it looks like a little rustic garden seating, with the wooden decor, gardening/kitchen tools, and the little potted plants on tables. This place was opened a few months ago and it's down the street from my house. Stopped by today with my daughter and we ordered The British Sandwich w/ spicy mustard and Berry Leaf Salad. We also ordered one strawberry and one mango smoothies. With the sandwich, you can choose different kind of bread and up to 4 toppings. The price is decent for the sandwich and the salad, $7.50 each. There are other kind of sandwiches and salads that I will need to try when I go back the next time. They also serve breakfast all day which might comes in handy during weekend if I get up late. They offer coffee, tea, expresso, and cappuccino. Also have Soups, Yogurt, Snacks, and Ice Cream. The Kid Menu is limited and it's $4.50. This place has a cozy and homey feel to it. It has less than a dozen tables but the high ceiling and winding staircase make it feel spacious. Just fyi though, the stairs lead to an office, not an additional seating area. I didn't have trouble finding seating but I did come in the middle of the afternoon, so I can I see how there might be a shortage of seating if you come at peak hours. Nevertheless, this is a nice place to sit down with a friend. The frozen yogurt was a bit on the pricey side at just under 5 bucks. There's no choice of size or flavor since there's just one kind and one size, but they do give you a very plentiful amount and you get 3 toppings with it. There are muffins shaped like tiny loaves of bread. I tried the red velvet one ($1.25), which was tasty and not overly sweet. There was another one that caught my attention. Unfortunately, the employee had no idea what kind that other one was. Carrot cake? Gingerbread? He had no clue. Would've been nice if he was a bit more well informed. I've sent a Vietnamese friend there who said they are better than Ba Le's. I recommended it to a French friend who also gave the baguette his stamp of approval. I love a chicken and avocado combo and the arugula inside cuts perfectly through any of the fattiness. Then the roasted red peppers and chile sauce on top just takes the flavor to another level. This location is right on the corner on Maple Ave and it's the most accessible salad place in Vienna. If I'm on lunch, I can literally be in and out in less than 5 minutes. Don't plan on coming in unless you're completely fluent in Spanish, as none of the employees except one speaks English. ICE and DHS would have a field day in this place! The concept is like Sweet Green's, build your own salad, sandwich, etc. The staff was rude this day to me, one even gave me a, "duh, of course, you're stupid" look when I asked about gluten free practices. There is never a bruised or wilted green in sight. The flavor is consistent as they measure out the same amount of ingredients each time. Now for the desserts: the Chocolate Chip Cookies are devine. I buy 2 usually and tell myself I will share with my child. I don't. The Cookies and Creme Milkshake is sinful and zomg-awesome. I may go there right now in 40 degree weather just to get one because they are that good. Go. Now. Parking can be a problem. They have a small parking lot used by several businesses. At peak times, it can be full, and there are no obvious parking alternatives. Same for seating. Tables may be full during peak hours especially because some people coming in groups send their friends to squat at the tables while they order leaving no tables for the friend-less people in line. I actually go there about four days per week for lunch, and I generally get the California Cobb Salad. This location is always clean, the service quick, friendly, and helpful, and the food is pretty tasty. I have always gotten my food to-go, and I have yet to run into a really big line. Today I got the Caprese Sandwich for the first time, and I was pretty happy with it. I do hope that they publish the nutritional information for their food at some point. I think as always you get more for your money if you get the salad and not the option to wrap it or put it between bread. I also got pesto dressing on my salad which was awesome because it was free and normally I would think anything with pesto would cost extra. As far as salads go, its worth it for the convenience for something healthy despite the high cost of protein and other add-ons. The salads here are ok. I don't know if it's what I got that day but I didn't care for their food. I ordered the mezzi bowl which came with a mix of different greens, saffron rice, falalel, and pita chips. I love saffron rice and falafel so I thought it would be a good choice. The falafel was a little dry and had a lemony taste which I didn't really like and the rice didn't taste like it had saffron in it (which defeats the whole purpose of calling it SAFFRON rice). My sister got the Sante Fe which we both didn't really care for. The sandwiches looked good and the staff was very nice and friendly. The seating inside is cute and they have some booths as well as tables (and outdoor seating). I'm willing to give this place another try and give their sandwich or different salad a shot. read more
