Truthfully, we didn't know it was a Greek grill spot until we were craving Gyros. Gyro was awesome (ask for extra tzatziki or add it to the gyro) We didn't get anything else this time. The store is clean and has a couple dine in tables. But the real move is to call your order in for pick it up! Plaka Grill specializes in gyros and Greek fast food. We ordered gyro platters that came in a bed of rice with a side salad included. It was our first time ordering pork-meat gyros and they were really good. We ordered a side of Greek roasted potatoes, as well as French fries. Those potatoes were excellent. They were full of tasty flavor. Lastly, we ordered a chicken gyro platter. It was good too. The pork meat gyro was delicious too. Where Plaka Grill fell down for me was on the side dishes. The salad was wilted and plated in the same container as the meat and rice. The steam from the other hot dishes could have caused the wilting. I was not a fan of the rice either. The other people in our party were fine with the rice, so maybe it was just me. I have heard about Plaka Grill as a family dining destination. I think looking at the reviews and sharing my experience, they need to revamp a few items. We still enjoyed our meal and the portions were generous. This place getting crowded and in this case that's a good sign of good food. Once seated the waitress came over quickly to take drink orders. The ambiance is chill. The spot isn't that big so it can get a little crowded and loud during peak hours. tl;dr: A wide variety of Greek food available in a sit-down restaurant or to grab-and-go. I had meaning to try Plaka Grill for a while after trying other Mediterranean and Greek restaurants in the area (think: Big Greek Cafe). When I found Plaka Grill, I decided that I wanted to try something a little more traditional so I could compare. I decided to dine in and so I ordered an appetizer, the zucchini fritters. They were tasty, but I was a little surprised at how much they cost for how many you get. I tried their Plaka gyro which comes with marinated pork, fries, tomato, onions, and their tzatziki sauce. I also ordered the Plaka platter which is basically the same thing, just not wrapped up in a pita. The meat was flavorful, although I wish the platter came with a sauce. One of my favorites about this place? They have fountain Coke Zero! I know, a weird thing to get excited about, but not a lot of places offer it. This place was just okay to me. I got the pork souvlaki pita and the flavors were there but I think there was just far too little meat. The price wasn't overly outrageous, but even so for the price I paid I felt like I deserve more than 8 pieces of meat. I also got the eggplant appetizer and it was okay as well - was on the tart side which I'm sure some people really like. Their pita didn't quite taste homemade. The dining area was clean and had ample seating for the size. It didn't feel crowded at all despite the number of people there. You order at the counter and food is brought to the table fairly quickly. There is a refrigerator with drinks and options for fountain drinks as well. I ordered the calamari after reading reviews about the flavor and crispiness. My calamari had a good flavor but wasn't as crispy as I expected after reading some reviews. It came with garlic aioli which I didn't care for too much and I wish I would've thought to get a different dipping sauce. I also ordered hummus which came with pita. The hummus was excellently flavored with lemon and garlic. The pita was soft on the inside and a little toasty on the outside; just how I like it. When I went up to the counter to ask for to go containers, I noticed the baklava which I hadn't paid attention to when I first walked in. I asked the lady at the counter if it was made in house and she said it is. So I purchased a slice to eat later. It wasn't my favorite because it had too strong of a clove flavor for me but they'd just preference, I'm sure. For an evening snack I'd say this hit the spot. Just moved to the area from DC proper and looking for a new Greek place. Ordered tonight, paying the same as what I used to in the city... and was STUNNED by how little meat was included--maybe 1/3 as much as my old place (The Greek Spot, in DC) gave for the same price. Also totally plain rice (compared to the delicious pilaf Greek Spot has) and bland, unseasoned potatoes. Extremely lackluster and disappointing, especially the tiny amount of meat for $22 (though the little meat that I did have was very tasty). EDIT: Also, the platter did not come with any tzatziki or feta or anything (just plain rice and pita and gyro meat). I had to pay $2 extra to get one of those tiny 2-oz ketchup container things full of feta. Really unfortunate! read more

I really like the Greek food I've tried. It usually takes natural, healthy, and flavorful. Plaka grill is no exception. I've only had a gyro bowl here but it was a good portion. I also love their pickles. This seems like a cool family owned casual spot. Many of my friends love this place and I can see why. Will surely stop by again. read more

I order carry-out every couple of weeks. We always get the Chicago gyros. The "consistency" I found was very dry, luke-warm meat. Also, despite what the pictures show, there is only one tomato wedge (as opposed to chopped tomatoes) and very little onion. The tzaki (sp) sauce is very thin and obviously watered down. Mostly love Plaka, but as others have said, the portions are smaller and the prices are higher. I have always loved the Plaka salad. I'm glad they wash the lettuce but wish they would dry it as well. Double date night at Plaka Grill! My husband and I, along with another couple, ventured out on a Saturday evening, and while the experience was flavorful, it wasn't without its quirks. I chose Plaka Grill specifically for their gluten-free options because my dear friend has celiac disease. Arriving at 5:30 pm, parking was a breeze (furthest from the pizza shop is less busy). Inside, however, seating was a bit of a free-for-all. We waited patiently for a table, but when one finally opened up, it was... sticky. Really sticky. Not wanting to rock the boat, we settled in and made the best of it. The food was the star of the evening. We started with hummus and cucumbers for the table--absolutely dreamy. I ordered the moussaka (so comforting and hearty), my husband went with the lamb kapama (more on that later), my friend had the beef souvlaki over salad (so tender and flavorful), and her husband opted for a gyro (classic and satisfying). Portions were enormous, and the potatoes? Surprisingly delicious and equally gigantic. Now for the hiccups: my husband's plate had onions in the salad despite our no-onion request, and he found the lamb dry--such a shame because everything else was so well done. The real drawback, though, was the service and cleanliness. Tables weren't cleaned promptly, and the overall sticky vibe gave us pause. Final verdict? This is probably a better spot for takeout, but I'd still worry about cleanliness behind the scenes. Plaka Grill definitely makes my list of favorite spots in Northern Virginia. I recently ordered the Plaka salad and a mixed grill platter, which were fantastic, as usual. I also like the gyro sandwich (with fries!) and the bowls. The portions are generous, especially for the prices. The food quality is that of a nice-ish sit down restaurant, while the prices are more similar to a pricey fast casual place. Portions are also great for leftovers or family style. Such a small restaurant with big flavors. We got the Plaka gyro with the fries. The wrap was enormous with a lot of beef pieces inside. They even add their fries into the wrap. The vegetables in the wrap were so fresh with the juicy meat. The white sauce (not quite sure what it is) that they put in the wrap is addicting and delicious. The fries were lightly seasoned. I think they would have been more crispy if we ate them right away but we chose to take them back home with us so they were a bit soggy in the end. But still delicious and we finished every piece. I got my usual chicken slouvaki dinner with mixed grill and my bf got the chicago gyro combo (drink and fries). Love their fries..always seasoned well and hot right out of the oil. Chicken was slightly dry today but the side greek salad and mixed grill never disappoints. The gyro was packed with meat and veggies..my bf enjoyed it very much for his first time here. My husband and I both ordered the chicago gyro wrap with a side of fries. The gyro was pretty good--I particularly loved the tzaziki sauce in the wrap. The fries were cooked perfectly. I only wish that they had more seasoning and maybe some more salt on them. Overall, this is a pretty solid greek spot. Not the most amazing I've ever had, but not bad either. AMAZING!!! I've been going this place third time now, and it is sooo addictive like Chipotle. I always go to this place after workout when I crave something fresh and refreshing. Portions are really good and flavor is pretty good. You will definitely feel full by the end. It is self serving so you take your own food to wherever you want to sit, so yes - no tips required. How did I forget to review Plaka?? Plaka is consistently amazing. Fast, delicious and friendly service every single time. I love introducing people to Plaka. The food is always fresh and tasty. Some of my favorite things are the Plaka Gyro Wrap which has Authentic Greek-style pork gyro with tomatoes, onions, tzatziki and fries inside. It's filling but you won't be in a food coma afterwards. The pork gyro meat is delicious, and the pita that it comes on is very soft. I wish that it came with a little more tzatziki though. While I love the wraps, the bowl was just okay. I ordered the bowl with rice pilaf, Chicago gyro, tzatziki, tyrokafteri, jalapeños, sautéed onions, tomato medley, pickled onion, and pepperoncini. I didn't love the flavor of the tyrokafteri dip, and I feel like the rice to other ingredients ratio is off. I have also gotten the fries in the past, and they are solid. Gyro here are awesome! I got the Chicago gyro (beef and lamb as the meat) and it was great. The meat here is cooked perfectly and flavored well. We also got their bowl with the Chicago meat as well and it was good! I like the free toppings that came with the bowls. I was asked if i wanted to make by gyro into a combo with fries and a drink and was surprised making it into a combo was an addition 5.25!!! The gyro itself was already $10 so 15 total for the combo meal. This was a little expensive for me to just add fries and a drink lol. Plaka grill is a very tidy no nonsense local restaurant that does a lot of take out.  We chose to eat there and they bring your food to the table after you order at the counter.  We sat by the colorful mural at the table known as "David Baldacci's remote office."  We enjoyed the hummus and the zucchini fritters.  We had read about the great Greek chicken soup with orzo (avgolemono) which was warm and comforting on a cold afternoon.  One of us ordered our gyro as a pita wrap and the other as a bowl.  The bowl came plaka style which meant it had French fries sprinkled on the top. Nice small spot! Have tasty gyro and other Greek specialties. On this last visit us and created a bowl that had a salad base, bifteka (ground beef lamb patty), two dips... he selected the eggplant and the feta:red pepper, plus tomato medley and pepper medley. He commented no dressing on the salad base so will have to ask about that next time... he just mixed things together and was happy. I opted just for soup which is a nice lentil vegetable served with pita. In past visits we have enjoyed their chicken, gyro and the moussaka.
