For a late Friday dinner (late for me at least), I arrived at Shamshiry at 10pm to a packed establishment. My friend and I managed do get one of the few remaining open tables so. I ordered the Chelo kebab kubideh ($20.99). This entree had 2 ground meat skewers, a grilled tomato, raw onion, and rice. The skewers were not simply juicy and well spiced. They redefined how much flavor I could expect out of grilled ground meat, making others taste flat or missing something. The rice portion was absurd. My sister had recommended this spot to me because she knew I enjoyed Persian kebab, and when I had a chance to be near today I stopped in. First, I didn't realize it was a sit down and order restaurant, I was used to short order. I was quickly seared and within a couple minutes one server had brought me water as well as fresh tandoori bread and a delicious spicy green sauce to go with it. A second server appeared quickly to take my order. I explained I was used to short order, and all I wanted was their version of chicken and steak (not ground beef.) The waiter explained how he'd do the combo on the menu and off he went. Having looked at the menu, I feared this might be an expensive option, and it was. But a few minutes later I was presented with a platter of delicious looking steak, chicken, rice, onions, tomato, and event a char-roasted jalapeño. It was enough food for my wife and I have had for dinner between us, so the price was well justified. Every thing was delicious. At the end of the meal, I asked if I could order another tandoori bread, and get a small to-go container of the green spicy spread to bring home for wife to try. They brought me both a generous helping of bread and the sauce, and charged me for neither. We've been coming to shamshiry for the last 8 years. We haven't been in a couple years now and recently went on a Friday. Restaurant packed quickly but service was still quick and attentive. Mahmoud was excellent - couldn't ask for a better server. Every plate is good here but personal favorite is the jujeh - very tender. Don't skip on the yogurt sauce or tahdig. Rice is super fluffy - order an egg yolk to throw into the rice. It's spectacular. read more

This was my first time returning to Shamshiry after moving back to the area. It was just as good as I remember! The interior of the restaurant has been nicely updated, although personally I like the fact that they decided to keep the familiar sign and awning out front. In an industry with plenty of turnover, it's a nice callback to how long this place has been around. The food at Shamshiry is as good as ever. Their chicken kabob is deliciously marinated and pairs well with a persian salad and tadik. Times change and life keeps moving, but a few familiar things mercifully persist. This is a restaurant I highly recommend to any of my friends or family when they visit the area. The meat is perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy. The portions are generous as well. I have to give an update to this place. Over the years, I feel like they have improved. We dined recently on Christmas Eve, and even for them being crazy busy, they did such an amazing job trying to seat us efficiently. They told us a hour wait for us being a party of 9 but they sat us in 45 minutes which was amazing. Food did taste amazing and I loved the green pepper sauce as a dip. We got the Mast-o Musir which was a shallot flavored yogurt. It was an excellent dip for the free naan at the table. I also tried the Shamshiry kabob with combines a kubideh kabob and a barg kabob. I preferred the kubideh kabob from this dish. I ordered the jujeh kabob and the cornish hen was very tender and had a nice charred flavor. Would recommend if you like chicken. Tastier and more unique than a regular chicken kabob. I also highly recommend the Persian Ice Cream. It was super creamy and bursting with flavor. Great way to end the meal. We went back to Shamshiri after a long time and I have to say that we won't be back again . The restaurant is very factory like. It took them a while to bring water and bread to the table . We ordered Masto -Musir which was very small. For food we ordered Chelo kabob shamshiry( we got sick from that) and chicken soltany with Baghali polo. The chicken was burned and dried out, when we told our waiter he just looked at us! The bread is wonderful and the chicken kebabs are amazing. Very moist with the rice and salad. The hummus was good and needed a little more tahini and garlic. The rice is cooked perfectly, each grain well separated. The doogh, also known as Persian yogurt drink, is tart and carbonated. Quite an acquired taste, but many tables seemed to love it. Portions for kabobs are huge. Lots of rice with raw onion and grilled tomatoes. Although no included salad. Powdered sumak is provided on the table as is free oven baked lavash, similar to naan. Just park on the top level of the parking garage at the spots marked "Shamshiry." Okay, now the fun stuff. I'm extremely disappointed by my experience today at Shamshiri Restaurant. My family and I have been loyal customers for several years . We regularly dine here in both cold and hot weather, always choosing the outdoor seating area because we come with our dog. Our dog is calm, quiet, and always stays in a stroller -- never bothering anyone. However, today we were asked to leave simply because another customer (an Arab guest) did not like dogs. Instead of handling the situation fairly, the restaurant chose to remove us -- long-time, respectful customers -- to accommodate someone else's personal preference. As an Iranian supporting an Iranian restaurant, this was especially upsetting. Respect and fairness toward all customers should come first. If someone is uncomfortable with pets, they can choose another seating option -- not force others out. After years of loyalty, this treatment was truly disappointing. I expected much better. Tried this place for dinner and really enjoyed it! The lamb was soft and juicy while the chicken tandoori was also robust with flavor from the spices! My only cons were that the tables were not cleaned as throughly even though we watched them clean it in front of us. My cup also still had some residue on it so I didn't really drink my water. We were in the Tyson's area looking for a place to eat, and remembered that a friend mentioned Shamshiry. It is kinda hidden, so even with the GPS we had to look around a little bit to find it. It was great! We both had the chicken kabob; the rice was very good, and their naan is excellent (thin, but fluffy). Back again during the holiday season 2024 for a Friday lunch. I arrived early and waited in the car for the restaurant to open at 11:30AM. My friend arrived for our lunch only a few minutes later. We both had the Persian tea and ordered the Mast-o Musir (i.e., yogurt with cucumber) appetizer to share. The big bottle of water and bread for dipping came first and then the tea and then the appetizer which excellent. I ordered the "Traditional Persian Cuisine of Chelo Kabob" (i.e., filet steak with rice, onions and tomato). Today, the meat seemed to be dry and had no taste. Perhaps it was just me as I was still cold from the outside temperatures. The portions are still large; I took half of the meal home. Hmmm.....I wonder if they have "kids menu"? I did see parents sharing part of their meals with children, but no children's offerings on the menu. We ordered the baklava. Out waiter was kind to tell us that there would be five pieces and decided that just one order would be enough and that we could share. This was still a good meal, but still fairly expensive for a lunch (i.e., $33 per person). This is still our favorite Persian restaurant and we will be back again soon. read more

My favorite place in the DMV currently to get kabobs. Parking can be a bit weird but if you just go past the restaurant, there's ample parking in the garage. I have always used this and never had any issues. Inside, it's a bit chaotic. There are many tables close by and it has a formal look but it's very casual. I don't think there is a dress code though. Lots of servers running around, big crowds of people eating, and sometimes a big wait too. Fortunately I came around the time where it wasn't too packed and I was immediately seated for this visit. Upon seating I was asked for my drink order and what I wanted to get. As per usual, the Chicken Soltani is probably my go to dish here and I can do no wrong. After I got my drink, bread was served. There's this green sauce that had a slight kick to it and I was just here slabbing so much of it on to my bread. I absolutely loved it. The butter is well just salted butter you'd get from ordering to go but it's very good too paired with the bread. The Chicken Soltani is basically Chicken Kabobs & Kubideh over a big pile of rice with vegetables. The food is fresh for sure as the kabobs have a smokey taste with every bite. That when paired with the rice, it's very soft and cooked to perfection. The grilled tomato is also good but I didn't find myself enjoying the raw slices of onion though. Portion size wise, this is the best value you can get here if you want consistently good kabobs but definitely check out this place when it's not busy. You'll be waiting for a bit! read more

We enjoyed Mamoud's recommendations (Kabob Barg/Steak and Chicken Kabob )! The restaurant was bustling at 7.30pm on a Sunday evening. We waited about 10 minutes for a table. Delish We ordered the cucumber salad which was light and refreshing. The kubideh was spiced well and cooked just right. Pieces were tender. But for me the star of the night was the lamb kabob. The lamb spices were balance well and did not overpower the lamb taste which I love, The service was fast and friendly, the ambience was welcoming. this was our first time there.
