Koobideh Kabob
Emily C.

Alborz is hands-down the best Persian restaurant in Vienna! The koobideh kabob was absolutely delicious--perfectly seasoned, incredibly juicy, and cooked to perfection. The portions are enormous, so you'll definitely leave satisfied (or with leftovers). The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Takeout is great too. I love this place

Chicken kabob and kubideh
Thu-Nga O.

This restaurant used to be very busy and food was better than our visit today. The Chicken kabob was very dry. The kubideh was just okay but the flavor was good. The food quality went down in my opinion. The ghormeh zabzi was okay but the meat was dry. The bread is old and stale. It's not even made in this restaurant. It comes out warm as though it was microwaved and hardens up to a dry old tasting bread. Overall the quality of the food went down although the flavor was good the chicken and kubideh was drier than before. Since the flavor is still pretty good. I still give this restaurant a four star in hopes that today was an off day for them. Get the ghormeh sabzi with tahdig- ( scorched rice)

Green "spicy" sauce is a watered-down tasteless tastes-like-apple-sauce

Food has deteriorated significantly since we began eating Alborz several times a year for the many years since they opened. To me their chicken kabobs were some of the best I've ever had, their rice was fragrant and amazing and their green spicy sauce was to die for. All that's gone sadly .... Got take out - chicken kebob was like tasteless dry rubber, rice was just meh, the green spicy sauce, even though it was the same color as before, now it was basically a watered-down apple sauce. What a disappointment!!!! On top of that, we tried their eggplant dip and it turned out to be an overpriced tiny tub of warm awful grease. If we were eating in, would've sent it all back to the kitchen. Don't know if the owner changed or the chef changed or what, but we won't be coming back.

Our meal at Alborz was a mixed bag.  The location is convenient with a big lot out the back.  The interior is comfortable and light.  The kabobs were good and the portions of rice very generous.  The biggest disappointment was the lamb shank.  Although the meat was nice and tender, it was served in a clear broth with barely a vegetable floating in the bowl.  We were surprised that they bothered having the broth/water.  The service was friendly but a little disjointed.  We had to ask for our tea twice after ordering it before it eventually came.  They were out of the baklava so we tried the roll cake which was refreshing but really nothing special.  I wish we had enjoyed a more positive experience.

Came here with some friends on a weekday evening and the restaurant was decently busy! There is also plenty of seating for large groups. The service is incredibly nice, and the complimentary flatbread is delicious. I ordered the sandwich, and the portion size was quite sizable. I am definitely inclined to try their rice dishes next time!

Jujeh Kabob

Excellent food! Had the hummus, roasted eggplant dip, tandoori chicken kabob with dill & fave bean rice, jujeh kabob, and Persian ice cream w/ paludeh. Everything was excellent, especially the chicken, and seemed authentic. The service and ambiance were fine - it had a busy diner feel to it. But the food def made up for that. Note that alcohol is not served here. Recommend and will return.

Tandoori Barg combo

Consistently good food, generous portions. Over time, a few favorites and preferences emerge. Ordering a la carte makes sense on occasion, staff are happy to accommodate. However the price for customizing orders is borderline prohibitive. A side bowl of lamb shank broth cost $5, a Tandoori/Barg combo $35. Better to order dishes separately as they are obviously a better value. Overall, I recommend Shamshiry as they at least show long-term customer appreciation.

Delightful! We have been here several times and we are always happy with our food and service. Our daughter really enjoys the free pita as well!

FISH KABOB

Upon the recommendation of a local I decided to try ALBORZ PERSIAN RESTAURANT. They have this green sauce that is made of jalapeños, tons of garlic, cilantro, and lemon juice...I can have 10 of those little containers lol no exaggeration lol As you can see from the photo I put it on my FISH KABOB that I ordered. The grilled salmon was cooked just right to the point where it was still juicy inside. No one likes a dry salmon so this cooking was appreciated. The fava beans gave a great touch to the dill rice that was topped with saffron. Huge plate for only $20.99. It was 78° out today so it was nice that they had a patio area. I'll definitely be back for lunch again :) ~ Jojo www.brandambassadorforyou.com IG: @brandambassadorforyou_

Food is always fresh, served hot and in a timely manner. This restaurant is always clean and all the servers are polite, friendly and very professional. Salute to Babak! His service is exceptional and we have never been disappointed! Thanks to the owner/restaurant manager and the staff for making this place the best Persian restaurant In Washington/Maryland/Virginia.

Chicken Kabob

This was my first time ever eating Persian food and I regret waiting so long to try it! After a long day of travel, I checked into my hotel and was so excited to see this gem just a short walk away. I ordered Panir Sabzi (feta cheese) as an appetizer and the chicken kabob (half salad/half rice) for a main. Unfortunately my waiter came back to let me know they had just run out of the feta app...I was bummed, but just meant there was hope I would have room left for dessert! The pita the waiter brought out really hit the spot while I waited for my food. I was confused why my rice looked so dark as my food came out, and then realized I lucked out by getting crispy rice on my dish. The saffron rice was incredible; I could not stop eating it, despite being painfully full. The chicken was also flavorful and cooked well -- not at all dried out. The portion was huge and it was great having some crunchy veggies in the salad! For dessert I tried the Alborz Mix, a combination of Persian ice cream and paduleh. This was unlike anything I had ever eaten and was such a fun experience. The paduleh was really tasty with the lemon juice on top and an entirely new taste/flavor/texture for me. Service was quick and so warm & welcoming. Even on a Monday evening, Alborz was packed by the time I left. I had a very solid meal here for a reasonable price and will definitely be back in if I am ever back in the area!

First, I didn't realize it was a sit down and order restaurant, I was used to short order. I was quickly seared and within a couple minutes one server had brought me water as well as fresh tandoori bread and a delicious spicy green sauce to go with it. A second server appeared quickly to take my order. I explained I was used to short order, and all I wanted was their version of chicken and steak (not ground beef.) The waiter explained how he'd do the combo on the menu and off he went. Having looked at the menu, I feared this might be an expensive option, and it was. But a few minutes later I was presented with a platter of delicious looking steak, chicken, rice, onions, tomato, and event a char-roasted jalapeño. It was enough food for my wife and I have had for dinner between us, so the price was well justified. Every thing was delicious. At the end of the meal, I asked if I could order another tandoori bread, and get a small to-go container of the green spicy spread to bring home for wife to try. They brought me both a generous helping of bread and the sauce, and charged me for neither. This service, combined with a delicious meal that, while expensive, will end up being three meals, means this is definitely a spot I plan to go back to as well as recommend.

Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. From my experience, I would recommend ordering in person because they lost our online order one time and, if you order online, you can't choose your own combinations of kabobs and/or proteins (I personally like ordering the falafel and gyros). Food Ordered: * worth trying - [Salad*]: I usually like to order the salad base. Out of the kabobs and proteins I've tried, I would recommend the beef kobeeda, falafel, and gyros proteins. I have also tried the veggie kabob, which isn't bad, but not as good as the aforementioned proteins, considering it's only grilled vegetables. I liked the flavor of the chickpeas but I prefer a more melt-in-your-mouth texture in my chickpeas like the ones at Charcoal Kabob. The chickpeas at Reston Kabob were a smidge gritty. Also, I have to highlight the sauces that come with the meal; both the green sauce and the white sauce have the perfect amount of acidity with the green sauce being bright and herbaceous and the white sauce being creamy and not too yogurt forward. My husband and I really like the white sauce here, so much so that we bought a bottle of it recently haha. - [Samosa*]: I don't think I've ever had a bad samosa and this tastes like your typical samosa. - [Baklava]: I tried the one with pistachios and the one with walnuts. Comparatively, I liked the one with walnuts more because the pistachios tasted a bit off to me and the pistachio flavor was a lot stronger versus the milder flavor of the walnuts. The only reason I'm hesitant to recommend it is because I thought it was soaked in too much syrup, making it a bit too sweet for my preference. As a heads up, each order of baklava comes with four small pieces. Would I go back?: Most definitely! Reston Kabob is a tried and true restaurant in my book and is in our rotation of restaurant options when we're in the mood for takeout.

I'm not sure if this was a one-off experience, but I would not go back to this restaurant because of this alone.
