    Joojeh kabob, rice, lamb shank

We used Maman Joon in McLean, VA for catering for our wedding, and I honestly cannot say enough positive things about our experience. We ordered Joojeh Kabob, Koobideh, and Lamb Shank. There are several reasons why I would choose this restaurant again for my wedding: 1. Food quality was amazing. Both our Iranian and American guests raved about the food, saying it was the best food they have had at a wedding. The meat was tender and juicy and the rice was delicious without being oily, which is very hard to do. Our guests went for seconds and thirds and majority of the food was finished even though we ordered extra! Even my mom, who is a very harsh judge of Persian food, loved it. 2. Service was excellent. Wedding planning is a really stressful process, so choosing a caterer is really important. Coordination with Mr. Sanaei was very smooth. He gave us his personal phone number and texted us everything we needed within hours (including COI and business license). The business is very organized. The delivery was on-time, and all the food arrived well-packed. 3. Most importantly, the staff at the actual restaurant is just really kind. I initially just went for a meal and after being treated with such kindness, I decided to use them for catering. Honestly, I get a feeling that the staff are more like my cousins. The ability to run an efficient and organized business, while still giving us a homy/comforting feeling is what makes this Maman Joon so special! 4. Price is great! I got a quote from several Persian restaurants in the DMV area (and even other Maman Joon branches) and this was lower for the exact same meals. Overall, I highly recommend Maman Joon at McLean as both a restaurant and catering!

I had one of my best food experience there. I had their Fesenjan stew and my wife got ghorme Sabzi stew, it was amazing and it was our first time trying Persian stews. Definitely come back to try more food!

Amazing and fresh food and ! 10/10 experience dining in with them Very good service and very kind owner and staff

The chicken kabob is consistently undercooked. Please see the attached photo and always ask for meat to be cooked well done.

Absolutely the freshest cooked food around.. great customer service and the employees keep the restaurant very clean.. thank you

I ate before taking this picture and as you can see, still have a lot of food leftover. Great portion size!!

After a work shift, I wanted something that was healthy but fast and this place did not disappoint! Made a call-in order for their Saturday Sultani special and side of an appetizer. Sultani: / stars. A little on the salt by side but very edible, soft, delicious. This meat is expensive (~$40+) so I was over the moon to learn it was only $20.99 here! Portion size is incredible. I swapped my rice for full Persian salad and they were happy to do this at no extra charge! Appetizer: came with fresh bread. Chefs kiss! Workers were fun to chat with as I was waiting for the food. Great people, clean store, and nice all around vibes.

Oh wow. We had to come by again while in town because of how much we loved it last time. They did not disappoint. Excellent service and the food was so delicious that I can't even move anymore because I ate so much. I switched it up today and for the adas polo morgh. He got his soltani and loved it. Mine came with loads of raisins and dates. It was so packed with flavor that I couldn't stop myself. Bonus bits of potato tahdig. The chicken was lightly spiced and juicy. The adas polo was perfectly cooked. The rice grains were long and perfect and the rice was cooked exactly the way it should be. Portion sizes were massive and I couldn't finish my food. Served with bread and a nice mast r khiar. It was thick and tangy. The surprise of the day was zayton parvardeh and it was so amazingly. It reminded me of an olive version of fesenjan. Tasted amazing with the adaa polo and morgh. You'd never believe this is fast food because everything tastes like home. I urge you to come here if you love Persian cuisine. It's the closest to Iranian home cooking in the area.

The pumpkin dumplings and pan fried veggie filled dumplings were great as well. I thought my salmon wrap and the chickpea side was ok. Interesting flavors for sure. As for the service, there was always someone filling up our waters and our waiter was very nice checking in every now and then. The only downside of the experience is at the end when the waiter was boxing up all the food for us. Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. So that was kind of a disappointment for us. I think if we go again, we would request to box our food ourselves since I'm not sure why they decided to get rid of all of his lamb.

Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

We were also a party of five but were only given one menu to share so not very convenient. I ordered the Chicken & Shami Kabob and it came with a choice of white or brown rice, one side, and naan. The meal looked nothing like the photo on the restaurant's website. The portion was overwhelmingly rice with very little meat. None of the garnishes shown in the picture were included on the rice. For $24 I expected a much better presentation and a more balanced portion. Oh and the meat was kind of dry. Parts of our order were missing, some dishes that came out were incorrect. The experience felt disorganized and the food didn't justify the price.

First of all I need to know what kind of sorcery they are doing to that chicken because how do they get chicken breast THAT tender?? Juicy, flavorful, not dry at all. Seriously so good. The lamb had really good flavor too but mine was a little overcooked and a few pieces took more chewing and determination than I wanted to give them. Brown rice was delicious. Definitely not one of those sad side dishes you ignore. Now the chutney... I like to add a little salt, tear off pieces of the Afghan bread and dip away. So good. Add some sumac if you like a little sour kick and squeeze lemon over the kabobs. I really liked the open grill too. I swear I got put into a little trance watching the fire dance around the meat and hearing the occasional singe as the juices hit the flames. I know. What a geek lol. Chicken and lamb combo was $26 plus tax and a bottle of Coke Zero was $3.99, which apparently is where we are in life now. Almost four dollars for a bottle of Coke Zero. Fine. Take my money. We would be having a vegetarian luncheon on the following day, so Moby Dick House of Kebab, with many Persian entrees with meat, seemed like a good choice. While Moby Dick is a chain, none of us had eaten at any of their locations. In addition to other offerings (such as sandwiches only or salads), the restaurant offered many entree plates that include your choice of (1) meat, (2) either basmati rice or salad (lettuce, tomato, red onions, feta crumbles, dressing), or half-and-half of each; (3) a 1/2 pita; and (4) must-o-kheyar (cucumber yogurt). The menus at the counter had photos of each of these options. Two of us ordered the Barreh Kebob entrees, which featured lamb kebabs, with the sides mentioned above ($17.99 each). One ordered the gyro entree, which featured slices of beef gyros ($12.99), and I ordered the Joojeh Kebab, with marinated and grilled chunks of chicken ($14.49). The girl who took our order was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting outside with two tables pushed together. Overall, the restaurant was moderately priced. Our bill for the four entrees and two sodas was under $90. (April, 2025). We would eat here again. All of us were very pleased with our meals. In fact, the quantities were more than suggested by the menu photos, and they arrived hot and tasty. The weakest parts of the meals were the pita bread and the yogurt sauce. The Quabli-style rice didn't really enhance anything - the carrots were way too soft, and there were hardly any currants, which was disappointing. Potatoes were forgettable, as they were bland; the lentil soup was piping hot, but could have had more lentils - it seemed like just broth with just a spoonful of lentils in it. The white sauce was more dill-heavy and ranch-like which didn't complement the kabobs and the kofta at all.
