Very excited to try this place, but feel let down by chaotic service and the worst (not best, as advertised) chicken sandwich ever. Take out is a nightmare, especially if you order a burger from zee burger and a Persian entree from mamoon, because there is no coordination between the two kitchens even though they are under the same roof--double check you get everything you wanted!! I love the people working there but instead of yelling order numbers and expecting your diners to know where to pick up the food (not obvious), how about a digital sign that posts the number and a designated place near the dining area to pick up the food? I have tried the chicken and rice (excellent), cheeseburger and fries (similar style as five guys but not as good), hummus (meh), and shakes (awesome). I would order all of these again. But do not order the chicken sandwich (thank me later). This sandwich really pissed me off! A dry, tasteless chicken strip that is gone in two bites, leaving you with buns, sauce and the feeling that you have been ripped off. As someone who loves Persian food, I wanted to check out this place today, but I left disappointed. The food is overpriced for the portion that you get. I ordered salmon kabob platter and my husband ordered beef chenjen kabob. Kabob is supposed to be served with salad OR rice, bread and yogurt. I asked for half salad, half rice, but that option would be extra $3. I eat Persian food regularly, and this was the first place that you have to pay extra for this option. Also, they were run out of bottle drinks, and my husband had to ask them later for a cup of tap water since I was very thirsty. Since we opted to dine in, someone brought the food for us. No bread and yogurt, only two platters: one with a lot of plain salad with no dressing and grilled salmon, and the other with a lot of rice, a few tiny peaces of beef, and one grilled tomato. I checked the menu to make sure that we got what we ordered since there were no sauce, no sides, and realized that they forgot to bring us the bread and yogurt. Went to the cashier to ask for it, and they brought it quickly. It makes me feel uncomfortable to ask for something that was supposed to be included, but ok, mistakes happen. My kids love this place. For that reason alone it deserves 5 stars. The first time we came, the restaurant wasn't officially open but the staff welcomed us in and fed us all. They felt like long lost friends. We've come back three more times and it's the same proud chefs and owners cooking and serving the food. The food is divine. Juiciest chicken I've ever had. We love to eat at maman joon! It's a great place for some really delicious Persian kabobs! Usually with each kabob comes at a bunch of rice, grilled tomatoes and bread (always warm). I am a really big fan of their Chenjeh kabob, juicy and delicious. Also their baklava is the best thing to have for dessert. At this location, I've tried Gheymeh bademjan and Ghormeh sabzi stews and also lamb kabob. Everything was delicious. Watch out for the 6% rip off added to your check for "packaging and service". It's a fee for nothing at all. What packaging? Are you supposed to take the food in your bare hands? A fee for service means you are paying them extra to take your order and payment. Oh yeah, on the overhead menu there is notice of the fee in small lettering all the way at the bottom. Very slick. Staff was really nice. Place is clean. I ordered the gheymeh bademjan, but they told me after I placed the order that they were out and if I wanted the ghormei sabzi. I said sure without really knowing what it was, since it was my first time trying Persian food. The owner also gave me a $10 coupon the next time I come because they didn't have what I wanted. Little did I know that the ghormei sabzi is actually very sour and bitter. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're into bitter food. I couldn't even eat a quarter of it. Tried both Maman Joon & Zburger at this location for the first time. I won't be back. Both are overpriced and poor quality compared with other kabob or burger options in the area. Was also charged a hidden "service & packaging" fee that was not disclosed. Cashiers were not friendly, ours asked if we wanted rice or salad or both with our kabob entree. We replied both, figuring it was a half/half rice/salad. Instead we were charged extra for a small salad. If "both" is an extra charge, you should disclose that when offering options. We also ate in and there were owners sitting at one the dining table talking loudly and on their phones conducting business - pretty disruptive. If wanting kabobs in Mclean/Tysons - go to Amoos or Shamshiry, heck even Moby's would be a better option. If wanting a burger, just go to Shake Shack or Five Guys. read more
