We went to this restaurant for seafood, not for the first time, but this visit was very disappointing. Besides the drinks being overpriced, they brought us a plate of six oysters that I've never seen anything like--so dry the flesh was basically painted onto the shell. I asked the waiter to check, and he insisted they were freshly opened. I'm not new to oysters--they're one of my favorite foods--but these were clearly not right. After a long wait, the manager finally came and admitted they had been opened the day before, though she wasn't very clear about when exactly. She agreed to cancel the order, and we decided to cancel everything else as well. When the check arrived, we noticed a 20% gratuity had still been added. To avoid further fuss, we paid and left. Very sad, especially as PLG locals who used to enjoy this place--we won't be coming back. read more

I wanted to love this place because the food is actually good but the service left a bad taste in my mouth and I can't give them five stars. The place is also extremely loud for brunch so you can't have a conversation. I also recommend checking your bill before paying because I didn't notice they overcharged us $17 for pancakes (we ordered it but they didn't have any so they never removed it, I called the next day thinking it would be something quick and the lady told me no worries they would refund me. Days passed and still nothing, I called back and they tell me they would zelle me. More days passed still nothing... I know $17 isn't a lot but it's the principle, don't overcharge people and refund their money. They started avoiding me and making me feel as if I was crazy for wanting such a "little amount" of money back (their words)-- I eventually had to email letting them know I would contact my credit card company to refund me the $17 if they didn't and magically that same day they Zelled me. We pre selected our meals which made everything much easier. We were told that drinks weren't included in our meal package which was no biggie. I ordered a Dussé Sangria which was yummy. For appetizers we had Deviled eggs, Ceasar Salad with Cornbread Croutons. The Ceasar salad was good. I could taste the anchovies in the caesar dressing. But it was nice and salty. Last month the girls and I stopped by Sweet Catch to check out their brunch selections. The ladies had been before (I think for a soft opening event) however, this was my first time. From on-set I was a fan because the seafood centered menu, but to learn that this establishment is Black Woman Owned, was literal the butter to my lobster, so to speak. I decided to go with Shrimp and Grits but was told that they were out for the day, visible disappointed they managed to work something out for me. I was so happy they did... shrimp n grits 10/10 would highly recommend. My two girlfriends ordered the crab cake eggs benedict and the shrimp, chicken and waffles. I had the opportunity to try both. The crab cakes were good and the fried shrimp was amazing, we order an additional side of shrimp. The waffle left us all with questions, it was a savory corn waffle but the powdered sugar and syrup did not really appeal to any of us. Overall a great experience, small yet comfy atmosphere with nice lighting and decor and great staff with a DJ providing the brunch vibes. Definitely worth checking out. I was thrilled when this seafood focused restaurant opened in my own neighborhood, and by a Black woman too. I was one of the first to check out this backyard-equipped spot. Here's what I tried: The oysters may not specify what region they're from, but they arrived fresh-and for $18 per half dozen, that briny goodness paired nicely with mignonette and horseradish hit the usual benchmark. I found the lobster and shrimp pasta a bit forgettable flavor-wise though. What did stand out to me was the fried lobster and shrimp perched atop a sweet cornbread waffle. I loved the Southern influence all over the menu. And those Maryland-style crab cakes with the snap pea remoulade? That's the dish on my re-order list for next time. I will say the cocktails skewed almost too sweet for me, like the Blue Dress that I ended up ordering because the bartender recommended it. I should have predicted the sweetness from the color. I went on trivia night which added such a fun vibe to the experience it felt lively but still chill enough to enjoy the food. I liked the cornbread (though I wish it came with more butter) but my favorite appetizer has got to be the Thomas Downing oysters, which blew everything else away. On to the entrees: Shrimp and grits I highly recommend and earned this place 5 stars from me. So, so flavorful, the grits were creamy and rich, and the shrimp were tender. One of the better versions of this dish that I've had and it easily matches the shrimp and grits I've had in NOLA and Atlanta. Chicken/shrimp and waffles? I came to Sweet Catch for dinner and drinks, and I would say overall, everything was just OK. We were a party of 2 which includes automatic gratituty.. kinda a strike one. We ordered the crab cake, which we both found quite disappointing. For $21, you will get one crab cake and a side salad. The crab cake did not have the sweetness of jumbo lump, rather it appeared to be claw meat. Also, the accompanying salad was warm. No Bueno. On to the entrees, I had the seafood pasta which was an utter salt bomb. Way too salty, I needed the lemon wedge to add much needed acid. The saving grace was the "blue dress" cocktail. I came here for an event and I must say I did not enjoy the food. First we ordered drinks which were ok but my friend had something in her drink. Then we had the mussels which were delicious but they did not give you bread to soak up the sauce. Then we order entrees but these entrees were not good at all. We told the waitress and she said she could take off the drinks but not the food. Also the food took a really long time she forgot to put in our food. Overall; I believe restaurants can have a bad night. My friend came another day for brunch and she said the food was amazing. So maybe this was just a bad night. I live in Harlem and the commute was really long so I do not see myself coming back unless I'm in the area. I loved the decor of the place and the waitress did try to make things better when she forgot to put in our food; she gave us a free order of deviled eggs which were good. Coming in Sweet Catch, the decor is light and airy, with a nautical theme. Despite this bright decor, it still feels cozy inside and you can easily get lost in a conversation here. The back area has a cute photo-op area. We were seated quickly, and greeted by our server Amber. Amber was extremely sweet, however, I would say there were times that things were delayed due to her being the only waitress. For drinks, I did single mimosas, but they do carafes as well. Kelsey got the mojito, and he said it was refreshing, but not too strong. We had to wait a bit for the mojito due to a mix-up at the bar. It took even longer for him to receive it after the mixup was settled. To start we had the house cornbread, and it was just it. The chipotle honey butter on top just sets it ALL the WAY OFF. The Chesapeake crab dip.... did NOT DISAPPOINT, as I said, I don't eat plantain, but the way I ate the chips with the dip, you would think I did. Both were so good, we were excited/scared (in a good way) for our entrees. He got the cornbread avocado toast, and I got the fried lobster and shrimp on the cornbread waffle. I never thought or heard that avocado toast with cornbread would be a thing, but Sweet Catch did that! The only thing that Kelsey mentioned was that he wanted the cornbread a bit more baked like the appetizer. It was a little softer and it broke apart easily. My entree was just as amazing. The shrimp was seasoned so well, and the lobster was good, but the shrimp was the star! I really was angry I finished! We were so stuffed and happy from this brunch and finished with some cocktails. I got the King Street Punch which was good, and Kelsey got the Loudspeaker. We even got to meet the owner, Kawana and we had to tell her how amazing it was. She was very sweet and grateful and when talking to her you can tell she takes pride in the restaurant. I recommend their brunch for a friends' date, girls' brunch, birthday brunch (if they are okay with it not being a party vibe), brunch date or even a 1st date meet. The chicken and shrimp were packed with flavor and the chicken had a lovely crunch and was juicy . The waffle was thick and fluffy. For an appetizer I had the Toasted bread Lamb slider topped which had feta cheese, pickles, lettuce. It was really good the bread was nice and soft. Then I moved onto the lamb, with a baked potato with mac & cheese in and roasted broccoli. The lamb was flavorful and a bite chewy I think that's the texture of lamb. We started off with the Thomas downing oysters and cornbread. The oysters were good but not what I was anticipating. I did ask for it with no cheese, which they were able to accommodate. We got the country omelette and fried chicken & shrimp and waffles. The home fries were a bit under-salted but otherwise well made and flavored. The egg itself was meh. The chicken and waffles is definitely the one to go for. It's a classic for a reason, but they manage to add a twist with the inclusion of fried shrimp and a cornbread waffles that was scrumptious. The one "catch" --get it ;)-- with this place was the service speed. It's on the smaller end in size (medium by NY standards) so there aren't too many patrons at a time. It was also heavily raining so I'm sure the outdoor patio was closed. However, it took so long to get our meals after ordering. Regardless it was a cute spot with great tasting food so I'll definitely be returning. I usually order the Blue Dress which is their coconut mezcal drink but switchedit up and ordered the G.G.T It was gin, green tea, tonic and botanicals and was amazing. It might be my new favorite. Nestled between a nail salon and grocery store you woulnt think sweet catch was so pretty inside. The resturant is light and airy with a tropical decor. We ordered the cornbread, oysters, crab dip and crab cake. Unfortunately only the crab dip was a win for us. The crabcake lacked crab and was slightly burnt, the cornbread tasted store brought, the oysters were broiled however was off with texture. The crab dip was good and paired well with the plaintain chips. For entree we ordered the branzino, seafood pasta (this seemed to be on point every table ordered it) the seafood boil and tje fried shrimp and lobster but itsead of the waffle we got fries. The brazino was cooked well, flavorful and delicious with the squah. The seafood boil was not cooked at the correct tempatures (rubbery scallops, perfectly cooked lobster, overcooked shrimp), the fried shrimp and lobster was cooked perfectly, seasoned well and the fries was crispy and spiced well. The seafood pasta had to be sent back...eveything was overcooked and the pasta lacked flavor. Im not sure if it was a bad time for us or new resturant flukes, im hoping to patron sweet catch during the warmer weather and enjoy some good eats. read more
