Wow. Really good. Switched a late reservation for 9 to an early reservation for 4 on a Friday night. Everything just worked. Great service, great drinks great food. Great all around. I could be more specific but really no need. You can't miss! read more

Guys! Don't give them your debit/credit card number!!! They assured me over the phone that it was for reservation of the table only! After we left Vail I got noticed of $75 charge..... And reservation for the table of 3 supposed to be $60. I don't understand anything anymore! read more

Everyone who mentioned this restaurant spoke highly of it! Naturally, I had to try! Our night start by being greeted by Katie who was beyond sweet and personable! We were seated with Marshall who was highly knowledgeable about the menu choices! Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend to anyone who loves or visits the Vail area! read more

Stellar! Rivals Vesta as one of my favorite meals in Colorado. Service is outstanding! they really took an interest in us and were outgoing and polite and friendly. The waiter was funny and knew his stuff. From the appetizer to the wine to the giant Pork Chop I had to the great desert. We took our time and enjoyed every bit of it. If you are ever in Vail and want a great meal, don't miss Sweet basil! read more

Dinner at Sweet Basil was great...quail and truffle risotto starters were excellent, duck, salmon and steak was delicious and had great sides (didn't need to order extra sides), followed by the sticky toffee pudding and mud pie! Right size portions so don't worry about taking food home to your condo or hotel room. Only drawback is this should be a 4$$$$ restaurant instead of 3$$$ if you have 2 starters, 4 entrees and 3 desserts and 2 cocktails; ~$75pp before tip. read more

The food was prepared to perfection. We had some starters and entres and all were great. The view from the balcony is amazing and adds to the atmosphere. read more

Excellent restaurant! Food is cooked to perfection and the presentation is top notch. The wait staff and hostesses are extremely friendly and conversational. This is one of Vail's oldest and best places to eat. Had a fantastic Wagyu Steak with Octopus as part of an amazing 3 course meal. This place is an absolute must for the distinguished diner to visit. read more

The food was great, but our waitress wasn't very pleasant. This waitress gave us the "my way or the highway" treatment. We did have a later reservation so maybe this played into effect and wanted us rushed out. I will be back to try again, I just hope for a different wait staff member and an earlier reservation time. read more

Great ambience, food and excellent service. Went there on our first day in Vail and couldnt resist going back again. Zucchini fritters are a must to try!!! read more

i absolutely loved this restaurant!! it is so cute and at the back they have an amazing view of the mountains and snow! they have great hot cocoa and the customer service is some of the best i have ever had! i had the mushroom and goat gouda melt and it was pretty good, the mushroom and garlic flavor a little too strong for my liking but other than that it was amazing! the malt and salt dessert was AMAZING! i recommend! read more

Excellent service and food. The lamb was probably the best lamb I have ever had. Strongly recommend visiting this place

Sweet Basil in Vail - No It is apparent after our most recent visit that reputation alone will not keep Sweet Basil bustling with diners. Traditionally, the most sought after reservations in Vail belong to Sweet Basil. However, the busiest weekend of the summer did little to fill the restaurant during our visit. Walk-ins were the norm this evening. In hindsight, this served as a great indicator as to how the night would unfold. Service was poor-yet, this is an ongoing theme at Sweet Basil. Ordering cocktails and appetizers seemed to pain the waiter. The appetizers ordered this evening were aesthetically pleasing, but lacking in many areas. The Tomato Tower, was swimming in vinaigrette. The tomatoes were substantially overripe. The Doppio Ravioli was undercooked, chewy and lacked any notable seasonings. The Loch Duart Salmon was undersized and tired. The lack of freshness was apparent on the first bite. This entree was returned to the kitchen. Service by our waiter then spiraled down from poor to atrocious for the remainder of our visit. One lonely bright note was the Tuna Kung Pao. Properly cooked and flavorful. The accompanying dumplings were a nice feature. Bottom line: There are several artisan-chef centered restaurants in Vail, deserving of accolades. Sweet Basil is not one of them. read more

Wow just wow!! Our server Craig was the best!! Our food was over the top delicious. The combo of those two hit it out of the park!! The heirloom tomatoe salad was great, the saffron infused seafood pasta was fantastic as was the halibut. So many flavors, so incredibly tasty! Highly, highly recommend! read more

First, I do not normally write reviews, but this experience required some documentation. We have been loyal customers at Sweet Basil since the 80's and have enjoyed many great dining experiences there. However, on August 30 we had a terrible experience. The hostess was beyond rude and unprofessional. She had a very unfriendly attitude and it seemed like she hated her job. We had a reservation confirmed by Johnathan for 5, but when we arrived the hostess argued with my wife that she only had us down for 3. She made us wait for our table for about 20 minutes. After that wait, she seated us at an undesirable table, and when we asked to be moved, despite several empty tables in great locations, she refused to move us. A female manager did offer to move us, but that would have required us to wait even longer. Ultimately, after about 40 minutes, we walked out. We walked over to the Left Bank and were treated wonderfully - the meal and service were exceptional. Hopefully, Sweet Basil will change their attitude and treat their customers appropriately. read more

This is by far one of my favorite lunch spots in Vail. Love the wine list. Love love love the desserts. Service is typically quite good. Request either a seat on the deck (summer) or creekside (cooler days) for the best views and people watching. Be warned. Dinner is pricey. Sometimes worth it. read more

Nice place with big bar. We had a reservation at 2, and had to wait for 30 minutes. The waitress was kind of rude and in a hurry.... we order Calamari, humus, oysters. The calamari was terrible... lots of batter and not many calamari, tons of weird veggies mixed in there. The humus taste ok, but was like a tiny splatter in a plate, not worth it. Oyster were ok (fresh). Then I had a seared tuna sandwich. It was not a sandwich but the taste was ok... nothing to go crazy about. I think the only good stuff was the sticky tufy and the pudding. One more thing, me friends beer was warm. Wont come back. They think its fancy but the food is bad. read more

This Vail classic doesn't stop to impress after so many years setting the standard of fine dinning in the Valley. Food and service are top notch in an unbeatable location at the heart of Vail Village. The Toffee bread pudding is by itself worth the visit. Reservations are a must, Mateo and friends will take care of you, you can't miss it! read more

Incredible food...quality, taste was amazing. Recommend the Seafood Linguine!! Portions are small if you are a big eater, load up on starters. read more

Simply delish!!! No other words if you go to Vail you need to make a reservation and must eat here.

Been many times while in Vail... almost every season and summer too. Never written a review on the restaurant because everything said in reviews seems like all that needs to be said. It's a true 5 star restaurant with both food and service every time we go. The food is prepared beautifully, and the service is impeccable. My trout was mouth watering to say the least. While in Vail don't miss dining here as you will have memories of sweet basil forever! read more

Consistent and always pleasing. In the last 10 years I've eaten here dozens of times.(family dinners, girls night out, first dates, anniversaries ) It's one of the "must do" restaurants in Vail. I recommend sitting at the bar, especially on busier nights. If thats not your thing make a reservation well in advance. The "sticky toffee" dessert = my weakness in life. Worth ruining any diet for read more

We did the rounds on great restaurants in Vail and this came out on top. It's a great space - more airy and open then the usual cramped food scene in this popular ski town. The service was attentive and helpful - really perfect. It counts alot in my book that they seated us right at 8 pm, when our reservation was. And the food was not a close imitation of fine cuisine, but the real deal. As appetizers we had the tuna crudo and beet salad. Both dishes had many interesting and unusual flavors mixed together (fish with fruit) but it created amazing bites. I never really appreciated how sweet beets were until I had them with blue cheese. The main dishes were equally good - the scallops were perfect and I wondered how they got them so fresh. We splurged on the toffee cake dessert which was well worrth it. In short, a Vail restaurant that is totally worth the price. read more

Consistently outstanding food and service make Sweet Basil one of our favorite Vail eateries. During a weeklong stay we usually dine upscale two or three times, Sweet Basil is always one of our top options. On our most recent visit we were greeted immediately by the manager Sam. Crab Bisque with Lemon grass and Sweet breads were exceptional, pork ribeye, roasted mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and both desserts were also excellent. Appetizers: All were very good, Sweetbreads were exceptional. Crab and Lemongrass Bisque Bib Lettuce Salad The Caesar Crispy Veal Sweetbreads Slow Cooked Duck Egg Pan Roasted Foie Gras Entrees: 1 adult had 2 appetizers Monkfish Pork Ribeye Lamb T-bones Brussels sprouts + country ham Roasted Mushrooms Kid's pasta filet mignon Dessert: We were all stuffed so shared 2 desserts. Cinnamon Carrot Cake Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake Always happy to patronize Sweet Basil and never afraid to invite friends. read more

Our expectations were not met. Service was good. I think the chef was having a bad day. The pan-roasted chicken was dry and the brussel sprouts were so extremely salty and fatty that the next morning my mouth still had that cloying feeling of fat and excessive thirst from the salt. The salmon was perfectly cooked but the potatoes were hard and undercooked. I will wait a long time before going back.. read more

GREAT SERVICE, quickly found us a table that would accomodate kids. delicious steaks. kids menu was delicious too - the fries and fried shrimp and chicken strips were fabulous! the breading was light and crispy. great meal read more

This was the most overrated restaurant we went to in Vail. The staff was uptight and the food was mediocre. As for the meal We tried a little of everything. The best dish we had was the Brussel sprouts which are amazing and the tortellini which was average. We should have passed on the pancetta and tuna ceviche appetizer. If you want great food and exceptional service try their sister restaurant "Mountain Standard." The best lunch and dinner menu plus exceptional Service read more

Expensive but totally worth it. The menu is extremely well thought out and the flavor is superb. The wine list is on the expensive side so you might want to stick to the glasses if you are looking to save a little cash. The wine they offer by the glass are fantastic so it is a good option. The food is just so great, there is nothing to say but five stars! read more

We could only get a reservation at 9:45. After talking to locals about how good this place was, we were sold. My boyfriend and I got the steak tartare, king crab tostada, she crab soup, sea scallops, sticky toffee bread pudding, and sweet basil coffee. Everything was the best ever. Best crab soup, scallop, best dessert. I highly recommend Sweet Basil. read more

My first time at Sweet Basil couldn't have been better. We sat on the balcony and the weather was perfect! Our table ordered two appetizers - the Orecchiette (spicy lamb sausage, fava beans, ricotta, mint) and the Rabbit (spaghetti, Borden's zucchini, poached egg, parmesan). Both were DELICIOUS! I wanted to reorder the Rabbit for my entree, but I decided on the Heirloom Tomato Salad which was most likely the best tomato salad I've ever had. Two glasses of Pinot Grigio and our lunch was complete. Will definitely be returning, hopefully next time in the winter! The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. I suggest getting to Sweet Basil asap! read more

Sweet Basil - Rabbit spaghetti - New American Near Me - Vail, Colorado

See all

Was trying to decide on appetizer and or side dish when waiter walked up. Literally just stood there and starred at me. So I ordered the Saffron Linguini and handed him the menu. That was it. I really wanted something more. His name is Ede. Horrible service from the get go. The pasta was very good but I really regret not walking out as soon as he walked up and I noticed his total lack of "service" attitude. Wish I had just left. Good food, very very small portion. $40 for the pasta, $18 for a glass of wine. Guess I'll stop and get a slice of pizza on my way to truck read more

As a Vail staple you can't go wrong with this place. Food is always tasty and service is always on point.

Wonderful place to eat in Vail. Gorgeous view of the river from the deck. Service is excellent. You can't go wrong on your dish choice. I recommend the Strangozzi Carbonara and The roasted chicken salad. Excellent wine list as well. read more

Has a nice location but food was mediocre, service mediocre, desert mediocre, cocktails mediocre. Certainly not worth the price. The waitress knew we were planning on ordering wine with dinner, but the food came and we were half done before she showed up to ask if we needed anything. My husband's lobster linguine was good but my tuna Kung pao uninspired. read more

A Vail institution with always good food and service. Great location right in the heart of town. It's a must stop when visiting Vail.

We have been in Vail for ten days- skiing and eating. Last night we ate at Sweet Basil. The meal was the best! The pork chop was perfect, the service was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Try the fried olives! Really good. read more

I have never been so disrespected in my entire life. The blonde waitress had been told from the beginning of the dinner that there would be various checks and we even made it a point to tell her who was on what check many, many times. She not only yelled at us in the middle of the restaurant when we were trying to help her do her job and told us to be quiet and leave her alone when the only reason we approached her was because she completely messed up every single check. She charged us for things we did not order or eat, she gave different parties within our group the same check even though we had already told her repeatedly who belonged to what group. There was no need to speak to paying clients that way when we had been nothing but kind to her. She need to be fired and reevaluate what it truly means to be in the foodservice industry. The manager as well was extremely rude and overall the service was to be frank garbage for a restaurant of its supposed class. Besides the male waiter who was very understanding and extremely nice to us, the whole experience was horrendous and I hope this review reaches someone in management besides the clearly incapable manager that was on the clock and something is done about the way these women treated us. If not I hope to discourage any reader from ever wasting their money here because while the food may have been delicious the service left a disgusting taste on all of our mouths. For context, I only downloaded this app to leave this review. read more

The food was not worth the bad treatment from the employee. This woman lacked complete patience and was physically unable to organize herself accordingly from the beginning and therefore had a difficult time understanding what food belonged to what check. This would've been understandable had we just suddenly told her to split the check once we finished eating but the separate checks had been clarified from the beginning, and even confirmed over and over again at least three times throughout the night. She not only gave us attitude as we literally tried to do her job for her and clarify what food belonged to what check, but she clearly had no patience for the customers in our party that have a language barrier and struggled to communicate themselves. Our actual waiter throughout the night was perfectly polite and patient, so I do appreciate him, however the woman that handled the checks at the end of the dinner truly was disrespectful and even told us to shut up at one point as we were trying to settle the issue. read more

What a lovely dining experience! The host was very accommodating when we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation, we checked our coats and went straight to the table. The king crab pasta was the best dish I tried, it was quite rich and delicious. The Little Gem salad was refreshing and had an amazing dressing. The stone bass was spectacular. Service was unobtrusive, exactly what I prefer. read more
