Gazpacho verde

The Vail restaurant the blew me away! The setting overlooking the creek/river was gorgeous and the service was professional, attentive and personable from start to finish. The plates are a work of art and come with fresh, flavorful and inventive components to match. A must try in Vail!

Whipped feta - so good!

Sweet Basil is our go to special occasion restaurant when spending time in Vail. The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, befitting a mountain town. There is a welcoming bar as you enter, with several different dining spaces, each with its own intimate feel. I've never had a bad meal here and every time we take guests they are blown away! On our most recent visit over the winter holiday season, my partner and I had another wonderful experience. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and non-obtrusive. I am pescatarian and gluten free and they were attentive to my dietary needs. We split the tuna and octopus appetizers, both absolutely delicious. For entrees I had the trout which was delicate but flavorful and my partner enjoyed the lamb. Portion sizes are fitting of fine dining, enough to be satisfied while not being stuffed. My favorite in Vail Village! It can be a hard reservation to get in season - they start booking 30 days out so plan ahead!

We came here for a family gathering and ordered a few of their popular dishes to share. The service was excellent throughout the meal, and the atmosphere was definitely top-tier, making it a great place for a family dinner or special occasion. The shrimp and corn-bonara was easily the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful, creamy, and surprisingly delicious. The other dishes we tried were also well prepared and enjoyable, and everything came out fresh and nicely presented. Overall, we had a really pleasant experience from the food to the service and atmosphere. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Always a wonderful experience. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. And of course my favorite sticky toffee pudding!

The sommelier might have been a little too enthusiastic (or maybe I was ), but the rest of the food definitely made up for it. Highlight of the night: the chicken nugget with caviar. Yes, you read that right--and it was actually amazing. Such a fun, unexpected combo that somehow worked perfectly. Between the laughs, good company, and some standout dishes, it ended up being a really enjoyable night. Would I go back? Probably--for those nuggets alone!

Comfortable setting and friendly servers. We like to try multiple menu items and while the choices are limited, everything we tried was delicious. The portions were small, but had great flavor and presentation. The children's menu was a hit with multiple choices. Would love to see more variety on the menu or include the lunch menu options with the dinner menu.

This is an amazing restaurant. We came for lunch and thankfully there was availability. I would definitely suggest making reservations to make sure you have a spot since this place is located in the heart of Vail. From the moment you walk in, the place is warm and inviting and has a killer bar. We sat towards the back of the restaurant near the window overlooking the creek. The menu is small but the food is spectacular. We went with the Caesar salad to start which was very fresh. I loved the dressing. It was tangy with hints of mustard and the saltiness of the anchovies. For entree we went with the special of the day which was a 6oz filet with truffle fries and a bone marrow sauce. It was cooked to perfection and very flavorful on its own. The bone marrow sauce really just added another layer to the steak. The fries were crisp and the truffle was not overpowering. Highly recommend stopping by for some delicious food and great ambiance for a date night.

We were in the Vail, Colorado area and found this cute warm place for lunch. I noticed 4 stars but in my opinion, it deserves 5 stars. We were seated immediately for lunch and got great seats in the back with an amazing view. Our waiter was amazing and friendly. We tried their Caesar salad which was so flavorful and had fresh crisp lettuce. It does come with anchovies. So if you're sensitive to that then I recommend not to get it. Their special that day was the steak frites. It was a 6 oz filet mignon and fries. We paired it with their red blend wine and it was a dream lunch. Very fancy interior and great vibes. This is the place we needed to relax and have a glass of wine and a delicious meal.

Katie our server was absolutely amazing. She was so knowledgeable about the menu and was very easy to talk to. The restaurant is nice and well kept. We had several tables around us and we were able to hear our whole table. Overall, our food was absolutely amazing. Everyone finished their meals. I could not recommend Sweet Basil more!

Great place with very good food. Menu is limited but that's usually a good thing in my opinion. This is a Michelin acknowledged place, but food was not as spectacular as I would have thought. Still very good though. Lively and loud bar but most hotspot bars are. Restaurant Reservations especially on a weekend or special event required, I'd say. Service was prompt, attentive and professional. Would I go back? For sure

Sticky toffee pudding cake dessert made without peanut brittle because of allergy.

The food had great presentation with great flavor flavors. The lump blue crab bucatini was the favorite item. I probably would not order the lamb again although the lamb sausage part of the dish was amazing, I think other items on the menu might have been a better choice. Cocktails and service were great but be careful if you order something magical, it comes in a unicorn cup. I was glad my wife ordered it and not me, lol. Not pictured is a Hamachi Crudo appetizer, which was very tasty. The sticky toffee pudding cake reminded me of desserts. I've had another nice restaurants - they made it special for us without the peanut brittle and I bet it is even better with the brittle. The ambience in the restaurant was perfect with light background music, and the hum of people's conversation yet you couldn't distinctly overhear a singular conversation and could easily converse with your table.

Came for Après! Love the vibe and the staff. I only ordered shrimp toast & a local cider. 2026 winter menu looks great. Michelin Guide spot. Gotta love Vail.

This place was our favorite dinner spot in Vail. The menu changes frequently so I appreciate recent reviews with pictures. The food is always delicious. Parking is free in the VTC garage. I wish it just wasn't so super expensive but once in a while, it's a really nice treat. We usually can't get a reservation so we try our luck at the bar and have been seated there the last two times. It's always fun to chat up others and we met a couple of fun ladies sitting next to us. Tyler was our server and took good care of us. Food... we ordered the Caesar salad. It was good but the last time we had it, it was very memorable and more crisp and citrus in a way that really made us want to come back for it. We tried the foie gras bateau. I really like the rich taste of foie gras, so the mango gel really overpowered the foie gras so I just ate it separately in layers. I wouldn't order it again. Beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly throughout for medium rare but it could've been a touch more flash seared on a pan or grill. I enjoyed eating the mushroom with the steak. The turnips didn't have much flavor and the stems were hard to cut on the rough stone plate with a steak knife. The Super Tuscan wine was very nice. Tyler described it well that it was peppery and bold. Most times we've really been impressed with our meal but this night was a little disappointing for such a large $240 bill for 2. I'm not sure we'll be back anytime soon. There are a lot of options at this price point in town so we might try something else next time.

Food: - French onion soup: not overly salty, the short rib is nice, but it's pretty small - Tuna tartare: this had a good kick to it - Pork Belly Porchetta: good flavor, not too fatty, good sides - a solid dish - Purple cabbage: pretty rich and meaty, interesting and good on a cold day Portions were on the smaller side. My main issue is that service started out good, but then our server went MIA because like they assigned him tables in various parts of the restaurant, which makes no sense and sets him up for failure, so I think it's a management issue. I was not happy that I had to flag down multiple other people for a water refill, another wine order, and dessert. The food itself was good, but service was just really disappointing. Honestly, I feel bad for our server - he was well intentioned but was dealt a rough assignment. Note: there's also a 3% credit card surcharge, which I've NEVER seen at any other high end restaurant.

I've been coming to Mountain Standard for years, for lunch and dinner, usually at the bar. The…read morebartenders have always been knowledgeable, engaging and genuinely fun. It's the sort of hospitality that keeps me returning. Two dinners this past weekend reminded me why I love the place, but also why I think it's slipped a notch. Friday was lovely. My partner and I arrived between lunch and dinner, settled in at the bar, and ordered a Manhattan and a draft beer. Some fries kept the hangriness at bay. The bartenders were terrific, as usual. Then dinner arrived. The $54 Angus hanger steak comes with miso creamed corn, toasted sesame, tempura maitakes and Japanese BBQ butter. An ambitious supporting cast for a good piece of beef. The steak was delicious, but we ordered medium-well and received medium-rare. That's quite a miss at this price. We didn't send it back because my partner didn't want to make a scene. Worse, the sauce overwhelmed the plate. A good steak should be the star, not an extra in its own production. The $23 crab mozzarella sticks, with green onion, pecorino and shrimp-and-Calabrian-chili sauce, sounded fun. Unfortunately, the crab tasted distinctly fishy, not fresh, and the sauce seemed to be trying its best to cover it up. That's an expensive mozzarella stick with a serious identity crisis. We finished with Meyer lemon tiramisu, port and two espressos. The tiramisu was good, though the crumble on top seemed an odd, unnecessary flourish. The port and espresso were perfect. Friday remained a wonderful evening because the bar and its people are that good. Saturday we returned with friends and sat in the dining room. Packed, energetic and LOUD. I enjoy a lively restaurant, but I also enjoy hearing the people at my table. Drinks were slow, and the delays continued throughout dinner. Everyone was courteous; the whole operation just felt off. Credit to the manager and front desk team for pitching in to deliver food rather than leaving an overwhelmed staff to sink. We shared the $16 whipped tahini dip, served with Lebanese pickles, crispy shallots, marinated feta and warm pita. The pita was excellent: puffy, warm, irresistible. The dip tasted good too, but with so many competing elements, it felt like one ingredient too many. Not every appetizer needs a committee. My $39 rotisserie piri piri chicken was tender and nicely spiced. Unfortunately, its smashed steak fries were undercooked and practically submerged in poppy seed yogurt. The sauce overflowed the plate. Somewhere beneath that yogurt lake was a very good dinner. My partner's Standard wedge was similarly overburdened: too much dressing, prosciutto and blue cheese, leaving the salad excessively salty. Our friends ordered the $54 hanger steak and $46 grilled Pacific sea bass. The steak once again seemed over-sauced, and the decorative corn shoots were promptly pushed aside. The bass, at least on paper, is a thoughtful combination of toasted farro, pickled carrot salad, basil and miso carrot butter. I can't speak to how it tasted, but the recurring excess across the table was hard to miss. Here's the frustration: Mountain Standard has talent, imagination, a great location and genuinely good people. But creativity isn't the same as piling on ingredients, and more sauce doesn't mean more sophistication. Across two dinners, there were missed cooking temperatures, underdone potatoes, questionable crab and dishes that needed editing. That's training, restraint and execution, not a need for a new menu. I still consider Mountain Standard one of the Vail Valley's best restaurants. But let's acknowledge that the competition here isn't exactly fierce. Too many resort restaurants seem content to rest on their laurels, knowing another wave of visitors is coming. Being among the best in the valley shouldn't be the finish line. Would I return? Absolutely, especially to the bar. The hospitality remains a real strength. But before the winter crowds arrive, I'd love to see the kitchen tighten things up and the dining room find its rhythm. Mountain Standard doesn't need another garnish or another sauce. It needs to make the very good ideas it already has work consistently. Three-plus stars, with genuine hope for more next time.
