It's our second time dining at SUYO. It's an absolute feast for the eyes and the tongue to dine there! Every dish and drink was beautifully plated like artworks. Taste-wise, the food was as amazing as they looked! The taste profile of each dish was well layered, with good balance of textures too! We will absolutely return to try more of their ceviches! The servers were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time there!

Worth the hype and every penny! The cocktails are mind blowingly cool - you can tell why they've won many awards. My husband had two alcoholic cocktails, and I had two non alcoholic cocktails: - Mineral is the layered looking one like a volcano (alcoholic) - Ritual with the chicken heart on top (and real cow's blood). The guava gives it a slightly sweet taste! (alcoholic) - Flora in the small cocktail coup glass with a pack of passionfruit (non-alcoholic - YUM!) - Migrant (in the ceramic cone, served in a box of rice) The Steelhead Trout tartare, beef tartare, scallop ceviche, Octopus Anticuchero, duck (Arroz con Pato) and dessert (lucuma creme brulee) we ordered were all heavenly. Our favourites were the Octopus, trout tartare and the dessert (lucuma creme brulee) The chef came out several times to check everything was going well. The space was very cool inside. We sat pretty comfortably but could see it being a bit tight in the main walk way from the front to the back and with the bathrooms halfway through.

Great presentation and delicious food at Suyo! Cozy atmosphere , good selection of drinks and very friendly service. My first time eating Peruvian cuisine so can't really say how authentic it is but definitely worth a visit.

We came for a quick drink before dinner. Service was attentive and fast Ritual ($35) was our favourite drink of the night. The initial impact of the guava was really enjoyable. Then the faint hint of cows blood comes in at the end. I enjoyed the thickness of the drink that the cows blood provided. Undergrowth ($22) was a more refreshing drink that is similar to kombucha as it's a fermented drink. I enjoyed the citrus notes. I much preferred the bottom drink (in the small cup) than the top. It had more depth and provided a nice contrast We also had the Flora ($15) which tasted like a passionfruit mimosa. Goes down a little too easy As we weren't terribly hungry, we ordered the ceviche Clasico ($32). It was a huge let down compared to the cocktails. The halibut was bland. The dried corn threw the whole dish off and added a weird crunch. I understand what they are trying to do here but the execution was not to me preference. Felt like I was eating stale popcorn. The dish left me very disappointed as it lacked that freshness and acidity that I usually look for in a ceviche Overall I can see that they put a lot of effort in their drinks and really enjoyed them.

This restaurant was probably my favorite from my Vancouver trip. It has a nice bar and the lighting sets the mood for an elegant dinner. One of the things I enjoyed here is that the food is unique, not something you can just get anywhere. Our server was also great! Even though he was very busy, he kept checking in with us a lot. The entire staff were great in explaining the meaning behind the dishes and the influence. My favorite dishes of the night were the Mussels Escabeche (a limited time special), Hamachi Tiradito ($45), and the Prawns Causa ($30). But I also loved every dish we ordered for the night. We had ordered the Scallop Tiradito ($34), Octopus Anticuchero ($33), Trout Anticucho ($32), Duck with Foie Gras ($65 + $24), 9 oz Lomo Saltado ($75). I highly recommend trying everything we ordered. We loved the mussels as it's very unique that we ordered another set instead of having desert. The shell is made of squid ink which I've never seen before. Everything was cooked to perfection. Nothing was overcooked or raw, and the dishes had a good mix of seasoning that complimented the sauces. Overall, I very highly recommend coming here for a nice dinner, especially for an occasion. Suyo has great service and amazing food that is the recipe for a good meal.

I'm not the best writer so I worry my words won't fully capture the nothing short of EXCEPTIONAL dining experience I had here last night with my girlfriend. We were originally sat in the back but asked to move up to the front for more of a vibe. So glad we did. The dining experience was fantastic from the moment we were greeted. The cocktail program is unique and the three drinks we tried were all wonderful. Every dish we tried we loved. Standouts were the kanpachi ceviche, octopus, pan de yuca, and King Kong dessert. We ordered the ribeye for our entree- it was super flavorful but slightly overcooked in our opinion. The waiter didn't exactly agree. Regardless- one of the more memorable dining experiences I've had. Loved seeing the chef there out talking with his customers and brining out plates. He's a wonderful host!

What an incredible dining experience! Suyo is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We came to celebrate a birthday and although we didn't order dessert, they still lit a candle served with complimentary cookies. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and service was exceptional from the moment we walked in. We sat at the bar and the bartender was so knowledgeable in explaining the food and cocktail menu. Cocktails are expensive but unique. My cocktail had whale gin with ocean foam and was served in a shell. We shared 6 small plates between the 2 of us and were very full after. Every dish was mouthwatering and beautifully presented.

Incredible food, cocktails, and (surprisingly) stories. We were sat at the bar and I think you're missing out if you go for a table. The bar staff were lively and engaging, with a story to share about each dish and cocktail. Conjures up a sense of Peru and adds some pageantry. Fully earns the Michelin guide recommendation. It's not cheap so likely more of a special occasion spot than a regular go-to. We shared a few dishes (they recommend 1 cerviche dish, 2 small plates, and 1 large plate) - you could likely take out 1 small plate if you aren't famished as it's quite a lot of (incredibly good) food. - Ceviche Clasico - Very fresh, very moreish. Could honestly have just kept on eating this and been happy with my night. - Pork Belly Chicharron - my favourite dish of the evening. The pork belly is perfectly crisp, set on a bed of polenta and yam puree with a sliver of pork crackling on top. Full of rich flavours and visually satisfying. Comes with three pieces. - Octopus Antichechero - the octopus was cooked to perfection. Comes with some yam and chimichurri. - Arroz Con Pato - they have a few large plate options that chop and change, but the duck is a long-standing staple on the menu - with a good reason. The duck breast is delightful, nestled into cilantro-beer rice. Excellent dish, but of all the things we tried I think this is the one I'd swap out next time for the Carne. Cocktails were spectacular. Each is focused on a different region/aspect of Peru and comes with a little tale (definitely worth sitting at the bar for the full experience): - Canopy - very fresh. a good opener for the eve. - Undergrowth - comes in two parts a daiquiri-esque cocktail in a glass and a separate tepache in a gourd that you can alternate sips of. - Lunar - their take on a martini. good, but not my drink of choice. - Mineral - cool-looking drink with strata of alcohol separated by ice to symbolize volcanic activity. - Ritual - by far the most unusual. Came with two chicken hearts on top of it and one of the ingredients is cows's blood... but it's surprisingly good! Quite guava forward with a savoury aftertaste. Will definitely be back to try the tasting menu, but perhaps for something special.

We wanted to try something different and this restaurant was recommended to us by a Peruvian friend. Birthday dinner at Suyo Modern Peruvian Restaurant. Michelin Guide restaurant. Started with one alcoholic cocktail (Undergrowth ) and one non-alcoholic cocktail (Santuary). Both yummy.. Ceviche Classico (different than most ceviche.. crunchy and white large corn) Octopus Anticuchero (with chimichurri sauce) Tacu Tacu croquetas (quail eggs goes well with banana compote). My personal favourite Arroz Con Pato (Duck breast). We were so full by the time this dish arrived. Dessert: Guanabana Semifreddo (a lighter dessert after a heavy meal)

From the outside, this restaurant looked small. I didn't imagine the interior would be this impressive. The interior featured dark wood with wooden panelled ceilings. Built in banquette seatings were very comfy. There's another space at the back. Loved the wall decor - wooden Nazca Lines. Our server is half Peruvian, her accent so charming. This restaurant is Michelin Star 2023 for a good reason. Every dish exhibits distinct flavours that also commingles to become one taste. The chef's plating and presentation of small plates incorporates heights and layers, beautiful garnishing that tempts the palate. I especially loved the strong passion fruit flavor of Ceviche Amazonico, the seemingly simple Baby Gem Lettuce Salad, tender Octopus Anticuchero, the cilantro beer rice of Arroz Con Pato, comforting taste of Lomo Saltado that went so well with rice, and both desserts. Everything was just done to perfection.

Striped bass feature, with forbidden rice, cecina, asparagus, and peas in a paprika beurre blanc.

Everything about our experience at Suyo was stellar; it was without question one of the best meals we have had in North America. The serving staff were so attentive and thoughtful in their explanation of the menu and cocktails, and every dish surprised us with its composition down to the smallest detail. We realized it had been a long time since we have had that feeling of joyful surprise from a meal. Standout items were the tempura-fried squash blossoms stuffed with potato and crab puree, topped with uni and crab claw, and a pan fried striped bass over forbidden rice with a paprika beurre blanc. Both were feature items of the day and were just incredible. Make sure to grab a cocktail or two, which were inventive and refreshing, including the non-alcoholic mocktails! Major appreciation for our server Sophie, and the entire staff who have created something really beautiful. We can't wait to come back (...and would have done so the next day if they had reservations)!

Suyo is simply amazing. We came here the second time in a year and fall in love with their food again. The atmosphere is beautiful, lively warm, and casual.

Mussel special. Do NOT eat the white stuff.
    Annie W.

I came here for my birthday celebration and left disappointed. Maybe I had my hopes up too high knowing it's a Michelin guided restaurant, but I found the service to be just ok and the food overpriced. What disappointed me the most was the mussel special I ordered. The server failed to mention each mussel was plated on top of salt so I thought the white piles were rice/mashed potatoes due to the consistency. So guess who left the restaurant feeling salty? Also shouldn't everything plated be edible? Apart from the mussels, I did enjoy the octopus dish and thought it was soft and flavourful. It was an interesting experience trying Peruvian cuisine but I would not come back again.

The entrance is completely unmarked, with darkened windows and no signage; you literally have to decide whether to push or pull your way into the gloom, which fits the "thief" theme perfectly once you step inside. Inside, the space leans into a **chic** speakeasy ambience, only slightly undercut by 90s chillout tunes that are a touch loud but still on-brand for a laid-back late-night hideout. The food is where things really land. Frog legs arrive as the star curiosity and end up tasting strikingly familiar--so much so they echo the famed chicken wings from Anh and Chi in both comfort and flavour. The beef tartare is properly seasoned and genuinely delicious, rich but balanced enough that it never feels heavy. Ox tail is a unique inclusion on the menu and it follows through, offering deep, slow-cooked flavour that stands out even among the stronger dishes. Duck breast is cooked to a textbook pink, tender and juicy, an easy "order again" plate. Dessert keeps the momentum going. An oolong peach creation acts as the perfect finishing touch: fragrant, slightly floral, and just sweet enough to close the meal without tipping into cloying territory. Service and atmosphere reinforce the sense of a discreet drinking den--this is the place you duck into for a properly made drink and a series of small plates, not a high-traffic scene bar. With nothing to complain about--from food to vibe--The Good Thief feels like a well-executed concept: a hidden, unmarked bolthole where you slip in from the dark, linger over excellent plates, and slip back out just as quietly.

Wouldn't recommend Steamed Bao bun with butter prawn masala ($21) - this was one of the highlights of the night. The butter masala went so well with the Bao bun and it soaked up that sauce perfectly. The cabbage salad felt like just an afterthough. Would not recommend. Sweet and sour pork belly ($16) - this dish was also interesting - it felt more like just a crispy pork belly. That's it. The sweet and sour sauce felt non- existent. There needed to be another punch in this dish to make it more complete. Wouldn't recommend Sea bass ($37) - this dish was great. Loved the texture of the sea bass. The potato gnocchi was a nice touch and that Goan curry sauce went really well with everything. Wouldn't order again Beef Kad Pra kao ($29) - this was another miss. The beef wasnt chewy but it lacked flavour. It needed more basil in it to bring out the flavour. Nothing about this dish impressed. Wouldn't order again Dubai chocolate bar ($17) - absolutely delicious. Loved the crispness of the chocolate crumb offset by the softness of the dense pistachio creme and the chocolate ganache. The little bits of the rose petals gave it that essence that it needed. It wasn't overly sweet. Would get this again Overall quite a few missed and some great dishes. The serving sizes are appropriate for the price. The service was great and not overbearing. Definitely try the steamed bun, the sea bass and the Dubai chocolate bar. My biggest issue with the dishes were that the garnished were almost the same for every dish. I understand it's for the pop of colour but it was so repetitive and didn't add any value to the fish other than the pop of colour (the green shoots and the red radish). I had the spiced Guatemalan carajillo it was pretty smooth and not too sweet. I would want to try their other drinks as they have quite an extensive menu.

The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

We've had their loukoumades twice, once as takeout and once at the restaurant. It was pretty good as takeout but so good eating it immediately at the restaurant. Also tried their lamb shoulder. I'm chasing the high of this one leg of lamb we had in Athens, and this one wasn't bad at all (my husband loved it)! But I usually am not one for lamb. Still was good though! And the lemony potatoes were lovely. Can't wait to come back next time!

I ate at two other tasting menu spots while I was here and this place was a clear winner. It's a one Michelin star restaurant and absolutely lives up to the hype. We did the tasting menu and every single course was delicious. There were a lot of flavor combinations I'd never had before, and the presentation was on point. They took the time to explain each dish, which I really appreciated. The chef clearly focuses on seasonality and local ingredients, so the menu changes by season. This tasting menu was themed around "Preservation," which made the experience even more interesting. The ambiance was top notch. The space felt warm, intimate, and thoughtfully designed, which really elevated the whole experience without feeling stuffy or overdone. The pacing was perfect, about two hours total, and I left very full and very happy. Can't wait to come back.

Service was exceptional. Both the maître d' and our server were friendly and helpful. We opted to order from the regular and seasonal à la carte menus for dinner: - Brezeln - The pretzel buns were soft and warm and we could not resist putting a big glob of the honey cultured butter on every bite. - Octopus - The tentacles were tender and springy at the same time. The slight heat from the sauce was perfect in cutting through the richness of the meat. - Chicken fried maitake - The coating was very flavourful but we found the the seasoning a bit too heavy. - Scallops - They were fresh and sinfully delicious with the sauce. - Sunchoke Dumplings - A dish with simple ingredients but it was easily the most flavour rich and balanced dish of the evening. - Hunters Chicken - I like that both dark and white meats were served on the dish. Although I generally stay away from white poultry meat but all the pieces were tender and juicy. The seasoning was a bit on the saltier side for us though. - Hay - The custard dish was interesting and we were told it's been the most popular dessert offering since the restaurant doors opened. It reminds me of a deconstructed tres leches cake from a restaurant on the North Shore years agar when I was hoping for a good piece of cake.

We ordered earlier in the day, and the shucker was clearly alert, taking the extra steps to ensure a clean finish. Truffle fries were indulgent and perfectly crisp, though the garlic aioli was milder than I prefer -- almost like straight mayo without a punch. I skipped the sushi wrap, sticking to my traditionalist ways, but my friend enjoyed it. Brownie bites, complimentary as they were, were a disappointment. Lacking enough fat and possibly stored improperly, they tasted a bit stale -- a shame, because how does a brownie not taste good? Our server was attentive and charming, swooping in at just the right moments for round twos and top-offs, which made the experience that much smoother.

Sadly after visiting the rooftop twice for happy hour and once for dinner with an announced significant birthday number shared, and two breakfast's a three is all we can muster. It should be so much more, but the food lets down the entire experience. Our service was good, with delightful people helping our experience. That said service is slow, with details that should be spot on, not even evident. Water glasses left empty forever, promises made, not even brought up again. When the reservation was made a question was asked of an event for the dinner out. A 60th birthday was mentioned, acknowledged, and when sat by our server and nothing further. To be fair K would rather it all go by unannounced, but when it's all over the paperwork a small recognition should be there. The space itself, is not on a rooftop at all, but it's a beautiful high ceilings restaurant that deserves a far better kitchen. Our price fixe menu for two at $155 or so was definitely not worth the price at all. The steak was uniformly medium when med rare was the ask. There was a tiny bit of medium rare at one end, but the vast majority was medium or more. The torch of the butter on the steak, looked good from afar prior to our serving, but right in front of you looks almost comical. Our breakfasts were average at best, again service was ok, but the food was not where it should be, in fact not even close. We'd ponder staying at the hotel again due to location, but we'd not eat here.
