It's been closed since covid. They use it to store napkins & silverware. I really prefer to sit at a sushi bar when I'm eating sushi, it's just the way to eat sushi. It's located in a somewhat quiet plaza so I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised! BEER: They had a great deal for 2 Sapporo's for $5. Although their rolls are priced quite high, don't let that deter you from coming here. If you buy 3 or more rolls, then each roll is 50% off! :D VEGAS ROLL: This large 5 piece roll comes with deep fried crispy salmon, crab meat, avocado, cucumber, radish spouts, and sesame seeds. I enjoyed this and would get it again, I would probably say light sauce next time more for personal preference. SCALLOP SALMON ROLL: This comes with spicy scallop and cucumber on the inside. Salmon, sesame seeds, and avocado are on top of the roll. This was good too and would get this again! I didn't find this spicy at all. CRUNCH DRAGON ROLL: This comes with crab meat, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, and avocado on the inside and spicy tuna on the outside. This was good too and would get this again! I'm glad I finally found a good-value casual sushi place in the IE. I've been to my fair share of places that skimp out on the fish and filling, but Sushi Shiro isn't the case! Come here to get your "specialty rolls" fix. Pricing was decent, food was tasty, and the rolls were large and had a good filling to rice ratio. When we arrived on a Saturday night at ~8pm, there were 3 parties ahead of us waiting to be seated. We had to wait outside but only for ~15 minutes (though there seemed to be plenty of empty tables). The service was good and food was delivered faster than expected. The menu is slightly confusing--one with pictures of rolls only, one with pricing only so we had to do some cross checking. Rolls average around $15-19 each which was rather steep for sushi in this area..However, we were told that if we 3+ items from 3 of their sections, we would get 50% off. My small complaints would be 1) the menu is confusing and the selection of actual fish is small (mostly salmon/spicy tuna). Due to its confusing nature, I think most people opt for the items seen on the ''specialities'' menu, though their speciality rolls definitely deliver the typical flavor explosions you'd expect. This also makes me not trust their other items to be as good.. 2) We weren't told which roll was which, so it was hard to remember which ones we liked/didn't like especially since I didn't write down my order 3) some of the rolls fell apart easily Besides that, I'd probably come back to get my sushi fix! read more

Unintentionally ended up dining here as the other Japanese restaurant we wanted to try did not offer sushi/sashimi. The exterior and interior of Sushi Shiro lacks in Nihon design so we were a bit skeptical in our expectation. The bar counter was lined with a lot of ready plastic bags to be filled in with pick up or to go orders which must be a good sign that they may be doing good business in that department. There's quite a menu selection and items considerably priced (e.g., Rainbow Roll, 8 pcs., $28 !!) . We enjoyed our meal especially because the sushi and sashimi tasted fresh. I need to update this since my last review mentioned AYCE which hasn't been an option for some time now. I live on the West Side and everytime I visit family in Upland I eat at Sushi Shiro. Visiting my family may just be the excuse I use to drive out an hour passing all those other overpriced trendy sushi spots to eat here. The sushi is always excellent quality and fresh (my order always includes albacore, yellowtail and octopus), the rolls are delicious (TONS of options) and the prices are just fantastic. We used to dine in and take advantage of the great prices on draft beer, but now we take food togo. They are on point with the time estimate, the food is packed in a way that travels well, and they always have the utensils and condiments included. (Which is clutch for me because I always forget to ask.) read more

My fiance and I got two pieces tuna, four salmon, and four salmon belly sushi, as well as a dragon roll and a scallop handroll to share between the two of us. The sushi was fresh, dragon roll was big, and handroll was well made. The texture of the salmon and salmon belly was very soft and buttery, we liked that much more than the tuna's texture, which felt like it was more on the firmer side with a little more chew. We've been coming to Sushi Shiro for years, it's one of our favorite places. Lately they have been closing earlier and earlier. Today we arrived at 7:30. Their closing time is indicated as 8pm online. We had barely come out of the car when one of their servers -- Daniel -- comes barreling down the ramp to tell us they're closed, no longer seating, or accepting people. They just had last call. We verified for closing time, he said 8. We asked him when things had changed, and he raised his voice at it and aggressively gestured towards their "new hours" sign, yelling at us patronizingly and disrespectfully. These people working in the service industry are getting worse and worse. Daniel is a prime example of that. Don't hire people like Daniel. read more

Gigantic rolls each priced at $17+/roll. We ordered the Twin Peaks (cooked scallops and white fish surrounding it) this one was underwhelming, maybe because I misread and was expecting some sashimi wrapped around the cooked baby scallops. The caterpillar roll (typical California roll with avocado and unagi) and Baked Salmon roll (think Alaskan roll with cream cheese, but all baked). All were pretty good cooked rolls. I was shocked that the rolls itself were huge and it fed 2 people. Another shocker was the bill, apparently when you order 3 rolls, you get them all at 50% off! How awesome!
