This place has some great sushi, and it's definitely a hot spot here in Claremont! The staff were super nice, friendly, and welcoming. I had my 2-year-old nephew with me, and they were so accommodating and kind to him, which I really appreciated. The food was delicious, and I loved everything I ordered. It's a great little spot with a nice atmosphere, and it wasn't too busy when we went, so we were seated pretty quickly. I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in Claremont. read more

I was craving sushi and my sister recommended this place, so we decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was amazing. Everyone was so welcoming, and our server was very attentive, checking on us throughout our meal without being overbearing. The overall atmosphere had such a great energy, and the restaurant was also very clean. We had a really great experience and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend! read more

Found this modern, cozy sushi gem in the charming Claremont Village Heard they're known for their creativity, the Salmon Carpaccio with its creamy sauce was so good Speciality rolls are on our to try list. Love their presentation. and of course, the Lobster Roll topped with a lobster tail. Feel royal experience! The highlight was the sashimi combo-- beautiful presentation, super fresh, and served with fresh wasabi. So satisfying Finished the sashimi in minutes We also got udon and a bento box to warm up and keep the little one full and happy IG: socalhkfoodies read more

Service is very quick here and they're very friendly. I ordered the rainbow roll and the pieces are very large but it didn't taste too fresh and a little warm. The restaurant is clean and so were the restrooms. I would definitely come back to try it again. read more

This business is overlooked. I have no idea why. It's warm and on the corner of Indian Hill Blvd in the Claremont Village. The people are calm. The food is unreal and authentic. It is inviting for a group or a large family that just wants a quiet place to eat sushi. Order and Chill. Enjoy the Japanese Experience with people who know what they are serving you. The chef on the bar so kind and gave me a free crunchy roll to try. It was to die for. read more

Fell in love with the Takasu Ramen on a cold day! It is the perfect warm comfort food. The broth is remarkably rich and unctuous, loaded with pork and noodles. Be warned: the bowl is massive and easily large enough for two people to split. Just note they only have hard-boiled eggs if you ask for one. An absolutely wonderful dish that I will definitely order again." The service was wonderful. I sat outside on the chairs and tables that they had placed out on the nice day. It was really worth the experience. read more

This review is only for management. The servers are awesome. The ones that helped me today super awesome no complaints about them, but management you need to figure out how to run a restaurant smoothly for better service. I don't know if it's cause you guys are trying to cut costs but every time I've gone in person during happy hour your servers are running around like chickens with their heads cut off because you're so understaffed. Today, for the first time, I did a pick-up order and and when I showed up at my pick up time at 5:40 PM it wasn't ready. I was told it was because you guys were very behind because you were understaffed with only one sushi chef. I was told to wait about 15 minutes at this point I went outside, waited, and with a grace period of an extra 5 minutes I went back in at 6:05 or so. When I went back inside, I was informed that my order still wasn't ready and again told that it was because you guys were understaffed, but that it should be ready soon because the second sushi Chef had just gotten there. When I asked to clarify "soon" I was informed about 10 more minutes which ultimately turned into another 15 minutes. The most frustrating part was seeing more people walk in and be seated and served while I was waiting for my food. Basically if you guys can't handle happy hour and how busy it gets plus managing to-go orders in a timely manner, maybe you should figure out how to staff your restaurant better or you could also teach your chefs how to prioritize ticket times and not focus only on dining-in orders. read more

6 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2025 I picked up my date and this is where we were going. Every place so far has been new to me. It was my first visit to Oni Sushi. Cool vibe here. Parking is meh as it is in downtown Claremont unless you park at the Packing House structure. Okay, cool, we were lucky to have gotten a spot as someone was leaving. We arrived at a great time as it wasn't too busy but it did get busier later. Service was good. There didn't seem to be a dedicated server. Seemed we were helped by three different servers. Apps: The Spicy Garlic Edamame ($9)... Depends on your spice tolerance level. I give it a 6/10, it was too hot. A slow burn, hits in the back of the palate. I liked it. My date thought it was hot, haha. She also ordered the Seaweed Salad ($8). A medium sized bowl, enough for two to share. Entrees: She ordered the salmon asparagus roll ($17). I had a piece, it was unique, not something I'd typically order. I always test new spots with a traditional dish, the Bento box. Tonight, I chose the 3 item bento ($28) with salmon teriyaki, side of steamed veggies, and 4 piece sushi. It normally comes with miso soup, house salad, and rice. It was a good choice but it didn't rock my world. Ambiance: I liked the decor and vibe. I didn't enjoy hearing the other party talking though. They played good music If I recall and they had a ball game going on their TV. Including tip, it was about $40 pp. read more

Love love love this place! 100% recommend the bento boxes. Literally the WOW factor. I'm pregnant so can't get all the sushi I really want but even the california rolls were great! Big portion and great value. The restaurant was clean- even the bathrooms. And the staff were friendly and prompt. I didn't feel rushed and really enjoyed my experience. The miso soup was absolutely delicious and filling and I loved the salad with their own dressing. I was excited to see both shredded carrots and peas on my salad! What a really great lunch! I can't wait to return and try more!!!!! read more

I had a hankering for sushi and this was everything I hoped and wished it would be. For 3 people, we shared the following: -beef gyozas ($9.00ish) -yellowtail roll ($7.50) -philadelphia roll ($8.00) -double crunch roll ($14.00): spicy tuna + imitation crab both inside and out -baked salmon roll ($16.00): california roll topped with baked salmon, smelt egg + green onion Honestly, everything was popping off. First off - the gyozas were gyoza-ing. I thought $9 for 6 pieces was a little esspensive, but these were some high qual gyozas - good filling, perfect amount of crisp. If you're feeling a lil cheapy - I recommend ordering from the Classics. The yellowtail roll was phenomenal. It had a great rice to sushi ratio and the fish tasted so fresh. And it's $7.50 for 6 pieces which is a really good value. I splurged and ordered a few specialty rolls. They were great though I probably won't order the double crunch roll again because double on double isn't what I wanted and or expected. The baked salmon roll, on the hand, was fire. It was proportionally generous and doing all the things. It was a meaty baked salmon roll which I love. Ten. Oni is great if you're looking for a solid sushi option. read more

My favorite restaurant in Claremont! Thankfully I work only a block away from here so it has become my main go-to place for lunch. All staff are super nice and food is amazing. They offer 25% off for lunch is makes it even more perfect! read more

Found this spot on Yelp and decided to try it for a sisters' date night. The vibe inside is super cute with great ambiance, the staff was really friendly, and even the bathrooms were clean. We shared the double crunch roll to start, which was pretty good! For my main, I ordered the ramen, but I really didn't care for it--the noodles were mushy and the broth just lacked flavor. Honestly, the food is more of a 3.5 for me because of the ramen, but I'm giving them a 4-star rating overall because the ambiance, friendly staff, and yummy sushi really made up for it. I definitely regret not just getting more rolls instead since that first one was so good. I'd absolutely come back here for the sushi, but I'll save the ramen cravings for an actual ramen shop. read more

I stopped by on Memorial Day for lunch, got the three choices bento. It was pretty good. I had the mixed tempura, teriyaki chicken, and 4 pieces sushi. Also comes with salad and miso soup. The amount of food was great. Minus one star for the mid miso soup, and the rice was not good. It was dry and not fluffy. read more

Decided to try this place out as I was in the area. I have been to this location before, but didn't realize it was under a different name. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a hostess and he said I can sit wherever I want. Once I said, I was given a menu. There were many items to choose from such as appetizers, Bento box, sushi, sashimi, and even sushi and sashimi combinations that they had. Prior to arriving here, I looked at the menu via yelp, and I did not see an item that I wanted to order on the menu. I asked the server and she said it was a special item that is not on the menu. I ordered the pink Lady roll, which is a rice less sushi roll, which had crab meat, cream, cheese, and asparagus inside, which was topped with salmon. I really enjoyed the roll and the crab meat was a great substitute for the rice. The restaurant had a great ambience to it. There was even a bar area where you can sit to grab some drinks. And from what I can remember, there was a TV at the bar area and upon walking in there was a big screen. This is a great place to grab sushi if you are ever in the downtown Claremont area. read more

I came in to Oni with a party of 6, celebrating a birthday. While ordering, I saw that the tuna sushi was advertised as bluefin tuna, so I asked the server if it was actually bluefin, and he said yes. What arrived was a pale, fishy tasting ahi. Nobody ever came back to check on us, or to see if we wanted anything else. Nobody cleared a single dish or offered dessert. The food was mediocre at best and the service was non-existent. What a huge disappointment. Save your money and avoid this place. read more

Excellent service and quick food delivery to the table. The food was good though not the best I've had but I wouldn't mind going back. They offer a nice variety of Asian cuisine ranging from Japanese sushi to Korean kimbap and more. Plenty of seating inside a welcoming environment! The waitstaff was friendly and quick. The music was the best! The fish was super fresh and fatty and flavorful! I've chosen this restaurant because I saw a good review, and I ordered my food which looks and taste so delicious but suddenly I found a hair in my plate. We have been coming here for over two years and the food is always delicious. The portions are good and the sushi is fresh. I have to say one of the things we love most of all though is we sit in the patio with our dog and the server Jesse is amazing. He always has a smile on his face and is happy to serve us. He always checks on us continuously not forgetting we are outside no matter how busy the restaurant is. He also always brings our dog water without us even having to ask and knows his order by heart. Thank you Jesse! read more

This is my go-to spot since I live a 20 min walk away. The service here is above average. The ambiance is nice and warm with comfortable seating. And the sushi...the sushi is pretty good. I'll usually get the Mama Mia role and something else. I've never had a bad serving of sushi, and the chefs are good at making the rolls as they never fall apart. The tempura appetizer is also a pretty good choice to start, and you can never really go wrong or mess up with that order. All in all, a consistent offering for sushi if you're in the area and mood for it! Enjoy, and cheers! read more

The service and sushi was impreccable. Went on a date there tonight with my husband. The sushi was 10/10, so fresh and generous size roles. We sat at the bar, the sushi chefs and all staff were so nice and attentive. Quite a few people ordered oysters, which looked so good, ... we will definitely be getting / trying those next time! I've dined in, I've done take out. No matter which one you do the quality will be there. Although I would like for there to be an option to have premium wasabi instead of only getting it when you order sashimi. When I dined in I came in during a somewhat busy time; an early dinner around four and service was decent. We had our server check in less than what I would have preferred, and had to request refills. Lastly, I will say for the price point I have had better quality fish. read more
