We were actually on our way to another sushi restaurant when my husband spotted this little hidden sushi spot and suggested we give it a try. I'm SO glad we did! I visited two nights ago for dinner, and based on a friend's recommendation, we chose the $50 premium AYCE option. Most of what we ordered came from the premium menu, but we also mixed in a generous amount of nigiri from the standard menu. I'm a sucker for high-quality bluefin tuna and fresh yellowtail (hamachi), and they offered both in a variety of preparations. Everything tasted fresh, well-portioned, and beautifully presented. I've had my fair share of AYCE sushi throughout the Inland Empire, Orange County, and Los Angeles, and this is easily one of the best AYCE sushi experiences I've had--if not the best. There will always be a distinction between AYCE sushi and higher-end omakase restaurants, but The Parlor does an impressive job of narrowing that gap. A huge bonus for me was that, upon request, they served fresh chopped wasabi instead of the typical wasabi paste. That's a major plus in my book and something you don't often find at AYCE restaurants. My only minor criticism was the noticeable wait between each round of sushi orders. It wasn't enough to take away from the experience, but a faster turnaround would make an already great dining experience even better. That said, the staff was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout our meal. The restaurant also has plenty of seating, TVs for watching sporting events, a sizable sushi bar, and a good selection of drinks. The food is fine BUT the wait for AYCE is a huge issue. I REALLY wanted to like this place . I tried it twice and the visits were 2-3 months apart, but unfortunately the wait time for food really dampened the experience. I was hoping to support a new local business but this will not be my new sushi spot. I tried this place a second time with friends yesterday (a Friday at 7pm) and there was no wait to be seated. The restaurant itself was about 60% full. They had about 4 to 5 sushi chefs. Fortunately I did warn my friends that the wait could be long so they were prepared for worst case scenario. I didn't get out of the restaurant til 10:00pm. For 3 rounds of sushi, that's about 1 hr a round. I'm thankful I was with friends and the wait didn't feel as bad because we were catching up. But the fact that we were waiting almost an hour for them to bring Miso Soup and Ice cream was hard to rationalize. Especially since the restaurant was not busy. At one point every single one of the sushi chefs took a shot with some customers at the bar, while we were waiting for some sushi. We had already been waiting awhile for the food. Now, taking a shot isn't that crazy but the lack of urgency and the fact that time had already passed and they weren't even in the middle of preparing the food was a bit too crazy for me. Our waitress was nice. Ambiance is good. Everything was clean. The food was good but it wasn't crazy amazing. It was fresh. Though I have had the same quality at other places for a fraction of the time. Unfortunately the food is not enough to make the wait worth it. First visit: I came here at 7pm on a Monday. I got an AYCE and the first round took a little bit but not the worst. But enough for me to notice. My paper was brought back before they finished delivering all of the first round food, which I thought "I will just get the second round filled out fast so they can start on that round". Turns out, that didn't help. I waited almost 30 min for the second round. The waiter came around about 3 times to tell me it was almost out. My husband who was joining me had to wait because he had ordered a plate that he was done with. I talked to the owner about the wait after she checked on our table. She was receptive and therefore I decided to give them a couple more months to figure everything out because this is a new restaurant. But alas, nothing has changed. read more

It was steady, not busy, but it took forever to get our food. There were only 2 persons working behind the bar making the rolls, which didn't help. We came here on a Sunday morning and did the all you can eat sushi for $40 per person. The waitress Anabel who served us was super nice, informative, and helpful. It was our first time here and we definitely ordered way too much. Be careful with that because as you keep eating you get so full!! It was so soo goooood tho! I definitely tried to order a lot of the no rice rolls. They have really pretty paintings on the inside! They were playing this rave pop music and it was pretty chill! I was so excited to find this local hidden gem in Montclair! The Parlor Sushi is a whole in the wall fusion-style sushi place that offers both a la carte and all you can eat. The prices here were super reasonable and the fish quality was great. I would probably pass on the miso next time, but the edamame was great. All of the rolls we tried were yummy. We tried the geisha, in & out tuna, lion fish, pepino, and devil rolls. Our waitress was super sweet and even other waiters came around and brought us more to drink and such. Let me give you the back story. Our son was in a school performance and we decided to give him a gift card (that we created) to a free sushi roll from his preferred place. Anyone who knows me knows I could live off sushi -- but only if it's the best sushi. I've been eating sushi since I was about 5 years old, so I'm EXTREMELY picky about where I go. I'm even more skeptical when a sushi restaurant isn't anywhere near the ocean. I've eaten sushi all over California and in plenty of coastal cities in other states, so I don't hand out compliments lightly. On 2/12/26, I happened to notice Parlor Sushi across the street while packing up my car. My first thought was honestly, "Hmm... interesting place for a sushi spot..." and I almost ignored it. But curiosity (and hunger) got the best of me, so I looked them up on Google/Yelp and saw the high ratings. I spent about five minutes checking out the menu, which offered both a regular menu and an all-you-can-eat option. I usually skip all-you-can-eat and prefer ordering from the regular menu. At the very last second, I decided to take a chance and placed a pickup order. I ordered the Charra Roll, Tuna Crispy Rice, Salmon Sashimi, and Tuna Sashimi -- and WOW. We didn't even make it home before opening the bag and eating it right there in the car. The "Charra Roll" was incredibly fresh and seriously spicy in the best way! If you love heat, this roll will light you up. Spicy crab, jalapeños, cilantro, seared salmon, avocado, and red onion -- packed with flavor! The "Tuna Crispy Rice" is one of those dishes restaurants either nail or completely miss. Parlor Sushi absolutely nailed it. Perfect texture and flavor. The "sashimi" was excellent -- beautiful cuts and very fresh! We finished every single bite in the parking lot. I was so impressed I actually went back inside just to tell the hostess how much we enjoyed it. She was incredibly kind, and I told her that even though we live near Palm Springs, we'd definitely be back. I'm not sure she believed we'd return -- or at least not so soon -- but we went back the very next day! This time I ordered the same items again, plus the Sakura Roll and Chicken Teriyaki/Chicken Katsu. That's when I had the chance to meet the owner, Moises, who was very personable, welcoming, and appreciative. The hostess was genuinely excited to see me back, which felt really great and says a lot about the kind of hospitality here. I let Moises know we were about to head out of town but promised that once we returned, we'd be back again. And we definitely will be. It takes a lot to impress someone as picky about sushi as I am, but Parlor Sushi did it two days in a row. We are lucky to have this place in the area. The owners have incredible attention to detail and take great pride in the fish they serve. Owner told us they had some toro in and we were able to try that and it was exceptional. Even the ginger and wasabi taste fresher. This place is slightly more expensive than other sushi places in the area but the quality of their fish makes the price point worth it. We visited parlor on a Friday night after taking note of them before they even opened! As ayce sushi connoisseur, we were very excited to visit Parlor and compare it to other AYCE spots in the area. Here is my review: Parlor just might be our new favorite! Basic FYI: Parlor is 3 rounds max, 2 hours. 38$ basic ayce, 45$ premium. Food: We always get nigiris at ayce so we have a strong focus on fish quality. Right off the bat, we got mix of nigiri classics like salmon, yellowtail, squid, eel, mackerel, tuna, and escolar. I was impressed by the visuals when we got our nigiris. The tuna looks more like real akami as opposed to the overly crimson mystery meat I often associate with tuna, the inari had good flavor and the correct shape (but wasn't juicy enough imo, usually inari has a burst of the sweet tofu that is very refreshing), the squid and octopus were meaty and tender, not chewy at all. Salmon was a bit standard, but what really blew us was the yellowtail. I don't think I've had yellowtail quite like this in any other spot, it was tender and flavorful, and I was surprised to find I liked it more than my usual favorite (salmon). We also got miso soup, the ichiban roll, mussels, and some of the fusion nigiri which were all very tasty. None of their items were overly sauced, and you can actually taste the ingredients themselves which I hold as a sign that the chefs have pride in their ingredients and are using quality sources. That, and the light, soft, and perfectly portioned rice proved to me the care and pride of the chefs and owners in their work. Overall, the clean flavors, freshness of the fish, and quality of ingredients set Parlor apart from other ayce joints in the area. Ambiance: Parlor is a clean and comfortable restaurant with standard chairs, tables, and interior. What stood out to us was the large, beautiful painted depictions of both Japanese and Latino(?) culture on the walls (forgive me if that is not the right term/culture. I'm going off an uneducated guess) and the paper lantern lights above dining tables. The restaurant hosted all sorts of diners, families with kids, couples, colleagues after work, etc, so it is suitable for all types of groups. The restaurant can get a bit loud, we felt the music was a little too turned up, but we were still able to have conversation without raising our voice much. Overall, Parlor is a comfortable, down-to-earth restaurant that knows its strength is in its food, and welcomes all to enjoy it. Service: Parlor's service is top notch. Moses and the waitstaff were all patient, personable, and friendly. Our waters rarely went unfilled, questions were always answered, and the staff are happy to engage patrons in conversation that give the sense of real community and connection. That last part is worth it's weight in gold, and Parlor and it's host do an excellent job at making you feel connected. My only only small complaint would be that our orders took a while to come out to us, but considering the many people in the restaurant, and the fact that they process fish fresh, makes this a very minor complaint. We are always happy to wait if it means quality! Cost: Prices are mentioned above, no complaints from me. The prices here for ayce match those of other ayce spots in the area, and considering our experience I would gladly pay! CP is high (combat power/competitiveness, AKA worth your money). My SO and I look forward to trying their premium option next time around! Overall, Parlor is a fantastic ayce sushi spot that provides quality and delicious sushi, excellent service, competitive prices, and a sense of community that will leave you satisfied when you walk out the door.
