The conversations between the server and the sushi chef was very enjoyable and interesting to say the least. The rolls are all handmade to order. Food was superb. The beau and I hate to put in special orders, we would rather see what the house can do, and this wonderful "hole in the wall" didn't disappoint! Despite the claim that the ownership has remained the same for many years, it is not the same from a few years ago. The miso soup did not have the mild smooth flavor. No sumi salad offered. The shrimp tempura was too salty and the batter on the tempura pieces was too thick masking the flavor of the vegetables. I couldn't tell what vegetables were included. We came for lunch today. Not impressed. All the tables were dirty. The service was ok. The food was not that good. I wouldn't comeback.

They put in fine print that is not easy to read "we use imitation crab meat" and rhey pur in large writing "crab roll". They also are very dishonest when you ask how much the all you can eat is. They dont tell you the drink sizes are extra latge to fill you up faster. They also charge extra for extra rice which fills you faster so you get stuck paying $2 per peice of sushi you do not finish. I started eating the inside of the roll and leaning the rice to finish and I was reprimanded by my eaiter in front of my whole party. He said "you have to finish the rice and the whole thing okay?". These people are explicatives with their brand of business. If you must go, order very little at a time and make sure you ear every single grain of rice or else! We were fined $72 for unfinished sushi. They later did us a favor and lowered the fine since it was out first time. read more

Went for dinner last night and enjoyed every minute of it. The food and presentation was excellent. Can always count on having great sushi! WORST Japanese restaurant I've ever been to! Was looking for a good sushi spot in the area. Discovered this place and thought we'd give it a shot. The first red flag was when we were given used paper menus that had soy sauce spots from previous customers. Second was when we saw clutter on the counters. This is clearly a spot for the locals since the 6 customers who were there all sat at the bar and were shooting the shit with the server and owner (aka sushi chef). As soon as we sat down, we felt so out of place with everyone looking at us. When I asked if they had a 2 item combo, they looked at me like I was crazy and the owner said we have whatever is on the menu. Then, when I asked if I could substitute something, he shook his head. He basically made me feel like shit for asking. At that point, I just wanted to get up and leave, but still chose to give them a shot. They gave us a salad which actually wasn't bad, but didn't like how it was room temperature. When I got my meal, the salmon was NOT fresh at all. And their rolls were small and couldn't stay together. And to top it off, the owner was drinking and taking shots with customers. This place had more of a dive bar atmosphere than a Japanese restaurant. In summary, this place is s*** hole. Food is not fresh and customer service is horrible. Enjoy the diarrhea you'll get after. We will NEVER go there again. read more

Came in for Lunch with my wife. The food was amazing and the Chef/Owner helped us and knew what we would like and gave us excellent recommendations. Aside from the amazing food, I think the thing that won our hearts over was the service. We came in and sat at the bar and we were treated as regulars. We talked as if we knew the staff personally. You can tell the owner is a people person who genuinely loves what he does. The staff does an outstanding job as well at creating a clean and welcoming ambiance. Definitely will make this our go to spot from now on. read more

I lovelovelove Japanese food, sushi, rolls, etc. I introduced my roommate to the restaurant I hadn't been to in years (thanks covid), and it was fabulous! And she loved it too. It was great to see Sean again, running the place single-handlely. And he remembered me from years ago. I will be back much more often now. Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto--that's what I think every time I pass this place. Youngsters look it up, and elders you know what I'm talkin bout! Instead of singing in my head, I actually got to try Arigato recently when my friend Duri and I were looking for a good sushi place to meet up/catch up. We sat at the sushi bar near the sushi chef, and wondered if we were welcome as it took awhile to be acknowledged and it was practically empty. Finally a server came over and took our drink order. We were trying to figure out which sake/wine wasn't too sweet, but no samples were offered so we had to take a gamble. For sushi we tried spicy tuna, salmon, hawaiian, a couple others and potstickers. It was all good, but nothing extraordinary. Will I be back? Maybe, but there's at least 3 other sushi places on this street that I'd like to try and they just might blow my sakes off! read more

It was one of those nights with the family. You ask the question, "What do you want to eat?", and everyone responds, "I don't know" or "I don't care". Ugh. We're driving on Foothill Blvd. and I say, "Fine, we'll get a burger", and pulled in the Von's shopping plaza. Suddenly, my wife sees "Sushi" out of the corner of her eye, and says, "Ohhhh, suhi!". We decided to stop in. When situations like I just wrote about happen, and I finally "put my foot down" on where we're eating (I had chose burgers), I hate when, last minute, someone else suddenly says they want something. This time, I was pleasantly surprised by my wife's last minute choice. Arigato sushi was a great spot to get over my hangryness. My wife, daughter, brother-in-law and I decided to share a few rolls and appetizers. My daughter, never having sushi before, thought to get adventurous and try a few things. She loved the (over) salted (in my opinion) edamame; if daughter is happy, daddy is happy. To share, we tried the Popcorn Lobster Roll, Caterpillar Roll and Baked Salmon roll. All three were equally tasty, but I think I enjoyed the Popcorn Lobster Roll the most. Delicious little deep fried chunks of langostino lobster drizzled in a green sauce made this roll addicting (and I was sad to share it). They offered a salad and miso soup with each roll ordered. The salad was different than I've had in the past at various sushi joints. This salad was finely shredded lettuce with a sweet tasting mayo based dressing, much like a coleslaw. It wasn't too bad. The miso soup was decent as well - I prefer a little more wakame in mine, but overall, I'm not complaining. I've read a few comments about the server here, and I'm here to assure you he's a friendly dude in his own way. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but based on my experience working in the Orange County/Beach Cities area, I'm going to say this server is from the beach. He's got that laid back, nothing bothers him, can kinda seem disinterested, but overall a cool dude way about him. This can be mistaken as rude to the untrained individual, but as long as he isn't saying bad words, down talking to you, or completely ignoring you....is he really rude? To us, he was totally cool. In all fairness, this review is of a take out order. I called to order take out, ordering salmon and yellowtail sashimi, a couple pieces of sushi and a roll. I was told it would be 45 minutes. When I went to pick up the order, there was 1 other party of 2 in the restaurant. I couldn't figure out why it took 45 minutes for my order. The sashimi didn't taste fresh and the roll was sub-par. I don't think I will be going back. read more

We just moved to the area and have been trying to find our new sushi spot...and I was really hopeful for this place after finding them on yelp, but man, they really dropped the ball. First off, they don't have a website so there are no current menus anywhere and the menus posted on their yelp are out of date. The prices are higher than the menu states and my bento box combo apparently didn't come with steamed rice? (weird, because that costs them nothing to make). I went back inside to clarify and the worker offered to just give me rice, which was great, but the food was unfortunately already cold and the family was hangry, so I just said no thank you. The food itself was okay, edible, but definitely not worth the price. My box was $15 and I counted 9 small pieces of meat. The rolls had minimal crab, tempura was soggy, it was just overall rough. The reason I post this is not to bash them, but to hopefully bring some awareness. Here are 2 potentially new regular customers that have ENDLESS options for sushi, but chose to give this place a shot over the rest, and were let down from yelp, menus, and to the food itself. I love local places like this and I hope they see my review and grow from it for the next customer who moves here! read more

Disclaimer: I am not a sushi aficionado--the best I do are California Rolls. I went there for dinner tonight after a disappointing visit a couple months back. Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. I usually get the Teriyaki Beef Bento. In my last visit, the teriyaki sauce was this thick, awful tasting sauce that tasted nothing like teriyaki sauce. There was no sweetness at all. Perhaps something went wrong, so I gave them another chance tonight. Sadly, I won't be back. The sauce was still thick and had a sourness to it that was not pleasant at all. I can make better teriyaki sauce than this. And while I don't do much more than California Rolls, they weren't rolled very well either. I ended up with California Clumps instead of rolls. It appears that you get better service (and food) when you sit at the bar and order sushi only. If that's the case, then great. I'll find somewhere else. Its unfortunate, because I really liked this restaurant. read more

Man I dont understand how this place has 4 stars. By far the worst bento box I've ever had. We ordered 1 beef 1 chicken bento box and it was shocking how horrible the quality was. The beef was inedible, hard, chewy and covered in sauce and only about 6 tiny pieces. The chicken same thing flat, dry, chewy and covered in sauce. The miso soup was bland and barely warm. They gave some sort of side cabbage salad that was warm and just disgusting to eat. I had to call the waiter over and explain to him how bad the food was as nice as I could. He was very nice and apologetic (good service from him) but then he came back after talking to the owner and said the owner took off 1 bento box from the bill. Smh. He should've removed them both and had us pay for our drinks and appetizers which would have been just fine. We paid and left. The owner should have came over and talked to us about our experience. He saw both of our bento boxes returned to the back hardly touched. When a customer hardly touches their food you have to question what's going on? For all you people posting 4 or 5 star ratings....smh. You should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

Great little spot that's pretty easy to miss. The owner is the sole sushi chef here, and is always behind the bar. Everything is usually really fresh tasting, and I highly suggest you try the salmon in nigiri or sashimi form. The owner sources his fish from the colder Atlantic areas, so the salmon is usually nice and fatty, with really nice streaks of white. He also preps his fish very methodically, brining the fish and keeping it temperature controlled throughout the stages of preparation. Try the salmon and yellow tail for sure. Because there is only a single sushi chef, if it gets busy be prepared to wait for your food. You have to come in with this understanding, there is wait staff and kitchen helpers, but there is only one sushi chef. This is not an understaffing issue either, he purposely wants it this way to keep the quality consistent. So do not come in expecting to rush a meal unless you are only ordering from the kitchen (teriyaki and such) here if it is busy, it just will not happen. With that in mind, if you come in with those expectations, expect consistently fresh fish and rolls. read more

Good portion sizes of sashimi in their rolls and giant pieces of tuna in their hand roll. I'm obsessed with their sesame cabbage salad that you get with your meal.
