This place, oh man. I'm not a fan of restaurants relying on technology for everything...I actually enjoy having a handheld menu. This place doesn't have one. There's one tablet per table, and that's how you order. The waitress is basically only there for drinks. We had to figure out how to order everything through the tablet, which I honestly found pretty frustrating. And unfortunately, the service wasn't much better. I constantly had to flag the waitress down for drink refills and help with the tablet. If the tablet is doing more than half the job, the least you can do is make sure our drinks are full. We ordered a drink, then went to order the sushi as well. Turns out we couldn't even order food for another 10 minutes because the tablet doesn't allow you to order again. So we got to sit there drinking juice and my wine for 10 minutes before I could even order our food. ‍ If you're going to make customers order everything themselves, at least make sure the system actually allows them to order everything when they're ready. I also asked what brand of Cabernet they served, and the response was simply, "red." I had to ask her to go look at the bottle and let me know the brand. They also forgot one of our plates. When I brought it to their attention, they told me they had made it. I had to explain that I was still missing it. She went to the kitchen, came back, and said, "We'll make another one." Again...just frustrating. And they really need to clean those plastic stands on the tables. When I went to pick one up to read it, it was filthy and sticky. Gross! On top of that, it was HOT inside. I'm not sure if the AC was broken, but it definitely made sitting and eating uncomfortable. They did give me a good-sized glass of wine, which I appreciated. BUT...the food was AMAZING! That is easily the biggest plus here. I would absolutely order the food again, but I personally wouldn't dine in. If I'm going to do most of the ordering myself and still have to constantly flag someone down, wait to order, chase down missing food, and deal with all the technology stuff, I'd rather just get the food to go. Oh, the mussels here though are absolutely disgusting!!! If I had a better service experience, I would probably be willing to look past all of the technology stuff because the food really is that good. Came by for a friends birthday on a Saturday in the late afternoon and there wasn't a wait at all. We told them we were celebrating her birthday and they brought out a cute little bear sushi "cake." This is our second time at Z Sushi! I love that this place serves 4 pieces per sushi roll when you do the all you can eat option. Most places do 8 pieces per roll which is way too much. I enjoy trying a variety of sushi rolls, so 4 pieces is a perfect size. The fish is of great quality. The sashimi and carpaccio are so fresh, they just melt in your mouth. As far as the rolls the fresh rolls are my fave. The staff is very friendly and they come around often to check on you. You place your orders yourself on the tablets located at the table. It's super user friendly to place your order(s) yourself. My only suggestion is don't pay until you've received your final order items. We paid before receiving our last roll and we never got it. When we asked about it they informed us that they no longer had our order in their order queue. The waiter was kind and placed our final sushi roll order. My wife, daughter and I went here a few days ago to try a new AYCE sushi spot in Upland near us! We had an incredible time! We walked in the front door for our 6:30 reservation and before we could even say hello the wait staff already had a hi-chair enroute for my daughter. We both did the AYCE and were shocked at the selection and most importantly, freshness of the fish. They didn't charge us anything for my daughter (under 2) and she ate off both of our plates. The space is a beautiful, airy dining space and they give every table a tablet to order food and drinks. Reminded me a little bit of the conveyer belt sushi restaurant chain I've been to before (just no conveyer and the fish was MUCH fresher) The Nigiri was some of the best Nigiri I've had in the IE, maybe LA. Super fresh, and unlimited with the AYCE. We also each ordered a roll and had a hard time finishing them because of just how massive they were. Like other All You Can Eat spots, they charge $2 per uneaten piece - although I don't recall getting charged anything for the 3 pieces we left on the plate. An absolute hidden gem in Upland! I have been to so many AYCE sushi restaurants throughout LA and IE, and this one is THE BEST!! A MUST TRY!! Every single nigiri sushi was so fresh and full of flavor. The salmon and yuzu yellowtail nigiri were by far our favorites! The rolls were also great and unique combinations. Their appetizers (butterfly shrimp and poke nachos) also tasted very fresh and a nice palate cleanser after devouring so much sushi (the spicy edamame is TOO spicy lol) We were seriously blown away by all of the sushi options and the quality of the sushi! It was hard to believe that this is all AYCE. We left NO leftovers. We came on a Friday afternoon and it was only $29 a person for AYCE. This is definitely the best ayce sushi place in the area hands down!!! The one suggestion i have is that I wish they had a kids menu because I have 2 children that do not eat sushi. For the kids, I have no choice but to order the bento box for them which is about $20 and they can't eat half of it. Other than the kids menu, the quality of their sushi is amazing. The rice to fish ratio is perfect. I like how you can order from the tablet and the food comes out pretty quickly even when the restaurant is at full capacity. I appreciated the rice to fish ratio, for an AYCE, it's very generous to use a smaller amount of rice so we can try more items on the menu. The handrolls were excellent. It started with a reservation phone call. The person who answered the phone just asked for the time, date, and name. No phone number needed. We also did not need the reservation. The restaurant was quite barren when we entered. Nicely adorned with Japanese decor, we sat in the middle of the restaurant. Our waiter explained that they offered a premium AYCE for $47.99 which offered unlimited sashimi and carpaccio. We opted for the regular AYCE as we were in a sushi mood. Ordering was relatively simple with the tablet, and we could order every ten minutes. The only annoying thing was the constant pinging from everyone's orders. The majority of the menu was albacore based. Albacore, known as "white tuna", is the canned tuna one finds in stores. We skipped on all the albacore options and were left with some hand rolls, rolls, and appetizers. The spicy tuna was pretty decent in taste and quantity. The spice wasn't outlandish and the hand rolls were actually rolls versus the cone shape. The salmon collar was also delicious, although it was deep fried instead of the grilled. There were many critiques though. The "wagyu" wasn't truly wagyu and just beef. The amaebi was not sweet shrimp. The Cajun tuna seemed to be seared and then sliced and was seriously lacking in Cajun flavor; usually the fish is sliced, placed on the roll, garnished. And then seared so the flavor is absorbed. Their Cajun tuna was served cold. The unagi also seemed overcooked. Given that they are newly opened, there are some quick fixes which need attention before they can truly shine. read more

We found this newly opened sushi spot near our house and decided to give it a try since there weren't many online reviews yet. Right after we sat down, the server asked whether we wanted à la carte, AYCE regular, or AYCE premium -- without giving us a menu. She only mentioned that the premium option includes sashimi. It was honestly the first time I've been to a restaurant where no menu was provided upfront. We ended up choosing the AYCE premium. The nigiri came with large slices of fish and a very small portion of rice, but unfortunately the fish itself was cold and lacked flavor. The sashimi platter, however, was a completely different story -- thick cuts, generous portions, and noticeably better quality. The fried dishes were pretty good too, especially the coconut lava ball and sweet potato ball. Ordering is done through an iPad. Each round is unlimited, but you have to wait 10 minutes before placing another order. Only about half the menu items have pictures, and many dishes with multiple ingredients don't list what's inside, which could be confusing and potentially concerning for people with allergies. Some items are also limited to one per person, including certain premium nigiri and soft shell crab dishes. Service was fast and attentive overall, though our table felt a bit sticky. I could also hear the chef loudly chatting and laughing in Mandarin from the kitchen, which became a little distracting during the meal. This place punches so far above its weight class that it's scary, due to (1) Price point, and (2) quality of fish. Nigiri at AYCE spots usually follows a deceitful formula: The quality is at least acceptable for the first round, and then it's like they're pulling slices of fish out of their socks for every order which follows. Salmon should be an exercise in self-buttering decadence; yellowtail dissolves on the tongue. You're lucky if you get that for round 1 elsewhere; here, the quality never diminishes over the course of your stay. That quality of fish lends itself to a rediscovery of how good the simple things are; a Philadelphia roll is only delicious if the salmon is high quality. And here, it's delicious. Best Philly I've had at an AYCE. Why? Not the rice, the proportions, or the cut. It's just that the salmon itself is such good quality, that you can rediscover why a simple Philly roll was such a genius combination of ingredients in the first place. No other AYCE around will come close to giving you that experience. Yes, they have rolls so jam-packed with ingredients that the fish is almost an afterthought. But whereas other AYCEs rely on these to deliver good flavor when the fish is lacking, there is actually no need to go beyond fish-first simple offerings here to find maximum satisfaction. Even though the complicated rolls are also delicious, the simple ones are more so, as the taste and texture of high-quality fish shine through with minimal distraction. Today I sat across from a table sharing a chirashi bowl; turned out to be an offering on the higher-tier AYCE menu. We got into a friendly conversation wherein it came up that they drove 1.5 hrs to eat there. I can't say that I'm surprised at all. Looking at the Lunch menu, they seem to have great deals priced at $17.99 (have to check it out next time) First is that the place looked very inviting, clean and organized. Service was generally fast. The selection for AYCE was decent with various rolls, appetizers, sushi, and carpaccio (limited order) . Rice to fish ratio was great on the sushi and rolls. The rice less rolls were also per generous in size. There were some rolls that I think had too much sauce that over powered the first, but I guess we could have asked to be lighter on the sauce. I'm a big sushi person and can be pretty picky, so I don't usually eat sushi locally because my standards are a bit high. I decided to give this place a try, and I was impressed. This is a really solid local spot, especially for the price point. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? No, but I've also had fresh-caught fish and Michelin-level sushi, so that's a high bar. For what it is, I would absolutely come back. I especially enjoyed the spicy tuna hand roll, and the bluefin sushi was good as well. The miso soup was your standard miso, and the baked green mussels came out hot and had a lot of flavor. There are a few small technical things that could be improved, but the quality of the fish is definitely there, which matters most. The server was attentive, and the food came out quickly. I also liked the decor. They do have a rule where you wait about 10 minutes between orders, but it actually worked out well and didn't feel like an issue at all.
