My first experience here was great but after visiting here more recently I realized I needed to update my review. This location has really started to cut corners and overall the quality of dishes has gone down. For whatever reason, they have decided to use disposable dishes recently. Our soy sauce containers were plastic to go sauce containers and the icecream was served in styrofoam bowls with plastic spoons. We even ordered the spicy ramen to try and it was literally just microwaved ramen still in the paper bowl you get at the grocery store. Very disappointing experience.
We met some friends here for Easter and had a great dinner. This was our first time to this location our friends have been here before they love it. Everything was clean and looked nice. The staff was quick to our table and answered all of our sushi questions. Every time we finish the plate she was quick to come to the table and remove the dishwasher to clear for room. The food was good my favorite was the yellowtail and Lisa Lisa. I didn't get a picture of it but I also got who's your daddy sushi. Who's your daddy tastes good but was overwhelming after two pcs.
It's our favorite all you can eat sushi place in Austin!! The servers are great whether it's for lunch or dinner! The servers work really hard and to go experience is lovely as well. It's very spacious well lit and easy to move around. It's great for big groups for families or for just a dinner date! The quality is delicious and we can't get enough. We've been coming here since 2018!
It was our first time doing AYCE sushi and it was ok. Food was served very quickly, staff were super attentive, menu had great variety, but to be honest it tasted just ok. I can think this is good for big group or family with kids, but there was no specific dish that actually amazed me. Maybe it's the common expectation for AYCE. Parking was super easy.
The sushi is amazing! I personally would not get any of the ramen as Sushi Junai specializes in Sushi. However, they do it so well. I definitely recommend sashimi rolls more than anything, specifically the sweet salmon belly. The raw cuts are quality and if you prefer more simple dishes I definitely recommend Sushi Junai. The employees are also very sweet, and the service is amazing. Also, the restaurant is very spacious so it's not as claustrophobic as all the other AYCE. 10/10 will def eat here more!!
This is the Junai Special Roll. There is barely any tuna or rice. The roll is super small and thin. Unless you order their "all you can eat" sushi lunch. They purposely skimp on all the rolls to get you to order a lot. Its awful. An amateur could make this roll. Don't go here unless you order the all you can eat.
We tried all you can eat at sushi junai 2. The vibe is casual. There was no wait to sit. The price for dinner was 36.99$ per person. The menu is extensive. There are a couple of special items on the menu that you can order once per person. We did 2 rounds. First round they were fast. Second round took a long time even though it was a smaller order. The quality is average but the food is tasty. Overall it was a good experience. The desserts were so good.
Went here on the recommendation of a few Yelpers and yes, it's the best AYCE I've had in Austin. The sparse, underwhelming (and chilly, wear a sweater!) interior shouldn't fool you, the sushi is legit. The pieces come out fast and are delicious. The deal at dinner is you can order anything, but the special menu items are in red and you can just get those once each. Hey, that works! The Sashimi Special was my favorite, and both the salmon and tuna hand rolls were absolutely stuffed full. Nigiri fish pieces were smallish but not overloaded with rice so, I mean, just order more. Our server was efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable. Total after tax but before tip was $40 even. Heck yeah. I'll be back.
Where else can you get a sushi role with bulgogi on top?! Definitely lots did unique options at this all you can eat place. Be prepared - the staff moves fast so don't dilly dally.
Came here with some friends and after trying the very few ayce sushi places in Austin, this is our favorite. We came here two weeks in a row on Friday nights and it wasn't very busy, which was great since we didn't have to wait for a table or wait long for our food to come out. I like how fresh the fish is and the portions of the nigiri. The amount of rice to fish ratio is perfect for ayce especially if you want to eat your moneys worth. I love all the variety of choices you have for ayce! I will definitely be back. So good.
We came on a Sunday at 11am and was the second group there. Service was fast. Our waitress was nice. Tables and seats were clean. We waited 15 mins for the sushi rice to get cooked when we ordered at 11:15am. We got the AYCE sushi for $29.95 per person. On the menu it shows 29.95 per person without sushi but what it means is you can't get the sushi nigiri 2 pc section.... You can order all the sushi rolls and everything else. We ordered: * special sashimi 3/5 some pieces there was still the tendon line in the sashimi and it was chewy. Bad cut of sashimis . The only one I liked was the salmon. * SAlMON HOlC Roll : 4/5 tempura was fried perfectly and was good. Wish there was thicker salmon pieces. Wasn't spicy this time but it was perfect. * SAlmON loveR ROll: 1/5: lacking in flavor and wasn't balanced. * Spicy TuNA Cracker - 5/5 delicious and crunchy; texture delight! * SAlMON POKi: 5/5, love this and wish this came earlier on so I could add it on the sushi rolls. * ex girlfriend- 1/5 I was not a fan of this dish. * strawberry mochi: 5/5 the best strawberry movhi I had! Sooo good ! Perfect to top off the meal. Do I recommend this place? We got our moneys worth for AYCE but I think this place is may be worth it for dinner better so you can order the sushi nigiri instead of just the rolls. The rolls had a lot of rice. Fish quality was subpar. The only fish I like that was salmon. Everything else was fishy or texture was off. I've had many sashimi and haven't had a sashimi with tendon or muscle line in it until here. OK place to get AYCE sushi if you're on a budget but I feel there's other AYCE options with better fish quality.
So I was a little hesitant when someone suggested AYCE sushi but prayed to the gods and decided to try it. Needless to say this place has been added to my saved list :) They have a large selection to choose from although not everything is available if you come for lunch. We went for dinner so everything on the menu was available and all the ones we ordered were delicious. Another thing to note is some items you can only order once per person. The menu does indicate which are the items. We came on a Friday and it was busy but didn't need to wait for table. You write what you want on a piece of paper and the waitress/waiter comes by to pick it up. They let you order two things at a time per person and our waitress was fast. It's casual and from what I could tell the place is clean and the service was good too. They came by often not only to take our order but remove plates too. Definitely will be coming back for the price, quality & service you can't beat it.
The food here is very good (VERY), but the Health Inspection Health Code Score is way too low. I usually won't even park outside of a restaurant with low health scores. It signals to me they don't care enough to offer an attempt at serving you the best culinary experience. (For instance, the tabletop was sticky in multiple sections.) I only visited this restaurant because I was attending an event. They have all you can eat sushi brought to your table. The staff is friendly, but they have no system for correctly fulfilling orders. When the whole table orders the endless dishes - the service falls apart. The event was fun, so the staff's chaos did not ruin anything. Note: They will also accept a reservation without being able to accommodate you - so beware. Again, the food is delicious - except for the Ramen. Do not order the ramen. The ramen should not be a menu item here. In a nutshell, Junai needs to focus on sanitation and all operational processes. This place could easily become a 5 star establishment, but they don't seem to want that. read more

I've never been to an AYCE sushi restaurant, let alone had much more than HEB sushi, so I was blown away by this first experience. I wasn't familiar with the different types of sushi so the waiter informed me on what was what and I tried a little bit of everything. I absolutely loved the salmon nigiri and the salmon tempuras (huge salmon fan if you couldn't tell), but just about everything we tried was fresh and incredibly delicious. It was our first time there and when we asked how things work, our waitress gave us a snarky annoyed response (Strike 1). We brushed it off because she could've been having a bad day and we've all been there. Then she blatantly ignores my wife not once not twice but three distinct times. Walking past the table close enough for us to touch her and she doesn't acknowledge us at all when we verbally ask for simple things. (Strike 2) I had fried rice and my wife had sushi. Obviously she ends up eating what I have but that's apart of the job. Our waitress comes over and seems agitated that we are sharing and she tells my wife "that's for him if you want some buy your own" (strike 3) After that not only did I lose my appetite but I payed for everything and we left. Upon our receipt coming to the table the old bitter waitress says the following verbatim. (Bitter) Waitress: "Did they pay" Waiter: "yes" (Bitter) Waitress: "thank goodness" She was relived we were leaving and this only confirmed what we had initially thought. Fried rice was 6/10 sushi was made by an imbecile. If you love tense environments and average food this is your place! read more

We tried the all you can eat menu. It's average quality but for the price, it's a good deal. It's what you would expect with an all you can eat place. There is also a la carte option. The food arrived very quickly and there wasn't a wait when we got there. Staff was attentive and efficient. Very good service. It was spacious inside, plenty of seatings. My favorite was the eel and cream cheese roll. Also liked the salmon lover one too! Nigiri rolls were just okay. read more

Okay, I would normally give this food quality 3 stars, I'm also kinda picky with sushi, but hear me out. This was my place when I just needed a lot of sushi in me. I have never eaten at Sushi Junai 2 except for AYCE. I go for the dinner version which additionally offers nigiri, and I DIG IN. Hard. I always eat at least 20-25 orders (that's 40-50 pieces of nigiri) plus sides and mochi ice cream for dessert. Yet their staff is super nice and accommodating, the sushi tastes fine throughout, and therefore this earns my top spot in Austin for affordable(as well as AYCE) sushi. Usually I order maybe 5 orders at a time. But this one time I went with friends and we all wanted some salmon and salmon belly. So right off the bat we asked, "can we get around 25 orders split of salmon belly and salmon nigiri?" oh man, they obliged. We watched the man at the sushi bar cutting fish and shaping rice like no tomorrow, we felt so bad. And when the enormous platter came out in front of us, I was amazed. I honestly wasn't expecting the request to be fulfilled, and in a timely manner, so I tipped them super well for the effort put in for our table. I've felt pretty bad at some other affordable sushi places in Austin, but haven't ever gotten sick here. And honestly for the value, the sushi is pretty hard to beat. I will always appreciate that, the servers and the old man who folded 56 pieces of nigiri at once for our table. Thank you. Overall, 3 stars for the sushi but 5 stars for the service. 4 stars for you, Sushi Junai 2. Also if you don't believe my story, look at this fabulous picture to commemorate a beautiful day. read more

You cannot go wrong here. There is something for everyone. We have been here a few times already and have never been disappointed. The service rocks. The food is fresh and delicious. The variety is outrageous. You must eat what you order or be charged for left overs but that is no biggie. Just order what you will eat. If you have questions, don't be shy...ask your server. I recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi. This place is A+! read more

Sushi Junai is worth it if you know you're going for quantity over quality. The quality isn't bad, but it's not phenomenal, and none of the things I tried were particularly memorable. I went with a big group of friends earlier this week, for the experience. I was impressed that we could reserve a table for 10 on a Tuesday night, and service was fast and mostly accurate. My favorite rolls were probably the Cucumber Passion or Strip Salmon because they don't waste space with rice, but they do combine fish and crunchy vegetables for a nice contrast. I thought the screaming O would be a similar experience, but the fish tasted a little tough. I may have gotten a bad order, because everyone else raves about that one. Rolls with fish, rice, cream cheese and vegetables are generally my favorite, so I thought I would really like the Sweet Kiss, but it was so big I could barely get one whole piece into my mouth at a time, to get all the flavors at once, and instead ending up stuffing my mouth with a whole piece so big I couldn't properly taste what I was eating, or biting the roll into smaller pieces, making it fall apart and getting one bite with one ingredient and one bite with another, and missing out on the full intended flavor and texture profile. The Kurobuta Sausage appetizer was an absolute joke, and needs to be taken off the menu. I thought it would be some kind of pigs-in-blanket or sausage dumpling situation, but it was just several naked mini sausages, sliced and cooked until they were as hard as jerky. The miso soup might have been one of the best things I ate - not because it was anything special, but simply because there was nothing wrong with it. I found myself having to finish some unenjoyable food just so I wouldn't get charged with leftovers, which is not at all how I, as a picky eater, like to eat. My friends seemed to enjoy their food overall, but there was nothing that they raved about either. Would I go back again? Maybe in a few months if friends want to go again. read more
This place is always so packed and for good reason. The rolls are amazing and there's such a great variety of different types that everyone can choose from. You order by writing down what you want and your server takes it to the front, which can cause a bit of a wait. BUT, once you see the plate full of sushi walking towards you, the wait is SO worth it. While I personally can't really recommend the sashimi or nigiri (not the freshest IMO), I do HIGHLY recommend their rolls, specifically the Final Destination roll and the Strip Salmon. Do yourself an added favor and get rounds of the "Screaming O", "White O", and the Spicy Tuna Crackers. If you love crab, then the Crazy Crab roll is your best friend. My biggest tip is get there early for a spot or add yourself to the waitlist on Yelp beforehand! read more

Just came out of here and had a great experience mostly due to our waiter, Eric. He was very nice and accommodating and gave us great recommendations. He made our dining experience amazing there. The only reason why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the 4 stars was for Eric and the reason I held back one star was because of the manager. She was not very pleasant and didn't seem nice to Eric, even though he was one of the nicest people employee and he greeted everyone with a very kind hearted attitude. I hope to see him there again next time we come and if he's not there anymore then I don't plan on returning. read more

We had the all you can eat sushi buffet. We got 5 dishes: Death Valley, final destination, spider roll, salmon ass, and dynamite. I recommend the Death Valley and final destination. Those were pretty good. The spider roll was disappointing. The sushi was breaking apart, and the sauce was overpowering on it. I don't recommend the salmon ass if you're doing the buffet style. It's thick and will fill you up quickly, so you don't want too eat much of it. The dynamite flavor was good, but the scallop are small. I'm down to try this place again since the menu is huge. Once I find more rolls that I like, I'll probably change the rating. read more
Sushi Junai 2 is the best place for AYCE (all you can eat) sushi in Austin. I enjoy coming here for it. I believe it is $45/person at night, which is honestly, a fair price for Austin. Now, I'm from the Northeast, where I find that sushi is better, so this sushi honestly isn't as good, but it's the best I found in Austin. The service is quick, they can get your rolls out very quickly, they have missed some of our orders before, but that is no worry. I am sad that we are not able to get more sashimi and specials, but it makes sense. They have a wide variety of rolls to choose from and the ambiance overall is very nice. The place is clean and the bathrooms are nice. I enjoy coming here! I've been here a few times. I do want to mention that I actually don't feel that the price point that they have for their rolls is very good, but the AYCE is fairly priced. I wouldn't come here unless I was doing an AYCE. Oh, I also love their dessert options. One time, all of my friends were doing AYCE and I was not, and they gave me a free ice cream because they felt bad for me, it was very very kind and I have not forgotten! read more

This review is for the All-you-Can-Eat experience. The reason for the 2 star review is the menu and price. Service was great. For dinner, which is $36.95 per person (as of 2/5/23), you can order all of the items on the "All-You-Can-Eat-Menu". If you want Nigiri, don't order off of this menu. There are zero nigiri options. The rolls were also very sad. A salmon roll literally means a piece of salmon rolled up with rice and seaweed. That's it. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was more than that. They overprice the items on the all you can eat menu so it looks like you might be getting a good deal, but you're really not. The only redeeming thing is that I saw many people in the restaurant eating off of the A La Carte menu. Their rolls and nigiri looked MUCH better. Will I go back to try it? Probably not. But I do wish we had just gone with that in the first place. read more

We went here on a Sunday evening (around 6) for all-you-can-eat. The quality of the fish itself was good but 20 minutes would pass between our waiter picking up our orders. We were also seated next to a large party that was making so much noise yelling and playing drinking games that everyone near us was looking at them. No one came over to tell them to quiet down. And they lost track of one of the only three rolls we ordered. And the rice in most of the sushi, even the nigiri, was warm. And... if you got this far, just look at this tempura roll. It has almost the width of a tennis ball. What on earth are they thinking!? The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is because the fish quality is good! I don't understand how they could goof up all the other parts? read more

Match 2024, We drove an hour to eat here and was totally worth it. We were hungry and forgot to take pictures of our food. We devour them as soon as it was set in our table. $35 all you can eat is the way to go. They have more than just sushi but for us we co e here for some nigiri. I like that the rice portion is small but I wish the fish portion was a little bigger to enjoy the flavor. Friendly staffs and quick service is nice, the wait to get in is long so get on the app and add yourself on the waiting list before heading g there. This save so much time. Go here and empty stomach and eat all you can eat . read more

Yes! You can always order straight off the menu, or order the AYCE during regular business hours
Do they charge for lefotvers?
Yes they say they do if you leave too much uneaten food and you are doing the AYCE. But we've left couple of pieces that didn't taste good or fresh and they were ok with it
Is there a difference in offering for their lunch and dinner?
The lunch is 21.95 plus tax. The dinner is 29.95 plus tax. Dinner includes nigiri, lunch does not. Also they charge for leftovers so order what you can eat. Customers often are confused about that. But it makes sense since an ayce place like that…
