The short story: after ordering from sushi d on seamless, we received our order 1.5 hours late and were not treated well in the effort to obtain our food. We completed our online order, and were told our delivery time slot. The delivery time came and went, and then another fifteen minutes went by. So we called, they said the food would arrive in a few minutes. We wait another fifteen, and still have heard nothing nor received our delivery. We call again, and are informed that there are some unclear issues going on with the delivery people. We also get hung up on a couple times when on the phone with the restaurant, mostly once the conversation is started. Order has still not been delivered at this point, so we call seamless to complain and only after that do we get a call that sushi d is re-making and re-sending our food. Ultimately, we receive our food about 1.5 hours late. It is typical but not exceptional sushi, not much care is taken (sloppy roll assembly), and because of the poor service and delivery issues I will not order from them again. Do not recommend, at least via seamless. read more

Sushi D is super-totaly-excellent. In the years I've been eating there, it's never let me down. The fish is always fresh and price-wise it's absolutely fair. I've been to some other sushi joints in the neighborhood & they fall well short of the bar set by Sushi D. I'll admit, the cash only thing is kind of a drag, but in this case it's worth it to plan ahead by 2 minutes and swing by an atm before dinner. My only ultra-superficial beef is the absolutely gross looking texture paint treatment to the dining room, which, once I'm eating, disappears. It's by no means the end-all-be-all of sushi, but for an unassuming little corner restaurant down the street, Sushi D delivers. read more

I give this place a Sushi B. The only reason it's not an A, is it's price point. When I attended Pratt Institute, I would fathom over their mouth watering menu, before I'd purchase a $3.50 roast beef hero next door. Since graduating, and re-visiting the area, I didn't waste time to look at the menu, and ordered off of sheer hope that they had what I saw on their menu years before (and the good things I've heard). What to my wonder, an amazing Spicy Tuna roll indeed. The white tuna melted in my mouth (2.50 for one piece), and the Asahi to wash it all down. My girlfriend ordered the chicken teriyaki, which they delivered on a hot sizzling skillet, and tasted above and beyond. With spackled brown painted walls, low lamp lighting, a very outgoing staff, and their definition of good sushi, you will see me here again. This is Fort Greene's Sushi spot, and if you aren't into sushi, you will certainly enjoy that $3.50 hero next door. (There are many many restaurants on this block alone) read more

Nice ambiance, enjoyed a meal there last night. I am a huge fan of the complimentary edamame with dinner and the service was great. All of the food flowing quickly from the kitchen was beautifully presented. We ordered: Mixed Crab Cake with Wasabi Creme---delicious, not on the regular menu but worth asking for from the prix fix! Spicy Tuna Salad - huge chunks of very fresh tuna Sashimi meal - very fresh, array of sauces for each type of fish Roll Assortment- can't go wrong Only complaint is they only accept cash, I spotted the tacky ATM in the back from the get go though and presumed that was the case...somewhat inconvenient although financially beneficial for them I'm sure. read more

This place is solid. Good sushi and generally excellent service. The staff are very hard working and seem like they genuinely care about providing good service. I've had a couple menu items (a salad, noodle dish) that were not stellar, but the sushi is consistently good. read more

this is for delivery (tho we have eaten in as well) I think this is decent sushi for the niegborhood; they do a lot of non-traditional and over-sauced western rolls. We have also tried many hot kitchen items. -SAshimi sampler good fish, did not care for the heavy sauces. Especially the creamy pommery mustard on the fatty tuna - not necessary -softshell crab salad; Very good, arrived crispy, light, and decent salad underneath. This was one of the sauces I actually really liked. - seaweed salad, lame, from package? -Gyoza were solid, not special -Pork Ramen; Great Pork belly, kind of slow-braised. thin soya broth, had kind of a sweet-sour broth...noodles were good- arrived nicely seperate from the broth. Sushi D is a quaint little gem in the heart of Fort Greene. Casual ambience and friendly and attention staff. The prices are insanely cheap. $6 for a glass of Chardonnay reminds me of places back home in the south. The food is great too. I have chicken teriyaki and an assortment of sushi. Not blown away, but perfect for the day. My friend and I could not decide what we wanted to eat and ended up deciding to try out Sushi D while walking around the streets of Fort Greene. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and knew how to manage the fine line of how often to check on a table. The sushi was tasty and filling, which was just what I had wanted. Good place! We had the "sushi for two" and the pork buns and it was delicious. They agreed to exchange one roll for the other, which was very nice. The portions are super large here and the food came out very quick. I liked that they were on point with service and they were super friendly. The prices are also not bad at all. I've been going to Sushi D for about 2 years, and am a huge fan. The food is consistently excellent - the sushi rice is especially good - and their special rolls are usually great. The people who work there are SO nice in a genuine way. I like the atmosphere as well - sort of 90s decor and lighting, BIG chairs and lots of room - my Manhattan friends always marvel at all that space! I think the best deal is the yakisoba - under 10 dollars and enough for two meals - but the more expensive entrees are also well worth the money. I noticed they just introduced a prix fixe menu for $20 that looks good, though I haven't got it yet. read more

Love this place, particularly the Azuki Roll - never had such a unique and yummy vegetarian roll. The staff is always extremely friendly and often even bring out a water bowl for my dog when we sit outside. I try to go here at least once a week. Service and quality - both top notch! read more

For Ft Greene, this place is the best in the neighborhood. There's nothing out of the ordinary here, it's the typical run of the mill sushi joint as far as the menu goes and well decorated, but its not creepy like Taro in park slope or the other sushi spots on Myrtle. This place was a unexpected delight on my never-ending quest to find affordable sushi that won't poison me. I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times now and the fish is always super fresh and the ramen is delicious. All the food comes out unbelievably quickly, so you can definitely be in and out in well under an hour, but I've also been here for 2 hours at a time at my longer (boozier) dinners with friends and they were fine with it. I went to Sushi D again last night. This is the best sushi you're going to find in Fort Greene (After going to this place, I will never go to Yamashiro on Myrtle again.) I entirely agree with the review saying Sushi D is 'good' sushi. It is good, it's nothing I would rave about, but it's the best in the neighborhood. The two times I've bee here, the wait staff has been incredibly sweet. They yell "Irasshaimase" to everyone that comes in the door - a common Japanese practice that's the equivalent of a respectful "Welcome in!". One super plus - when you sit down they right away bring the table a bowl of edamame. Last night I had the Tanaka Ginger Chicken Ramen (one of the winter specials). The chicken wasn't fantastic, but the broth and noodles were great. My friend got the spicy seafood ramen, which was also really good. I'll go here again. read more

As someone born and raised in Tokyo I can say w/ at least limited authority that this place is pretty good. You can always tell good quality sushi places from the rest by the quality of the rice. We should have known when we walked in on a Friday @ 8pm, and it was empty, that Sushi D wasn't going to live up to our expectations. The edamame tasted like it came out of a freezer bag, and there was absolutely no salt on it! We ordered a spicy tuna roll and a hamachi specialty roll and both were just meh. This was the worst restaurant I've ever ordered from. Ordered 2 special rolls and there were 7 small pieces which costed $30 altogether. they probably forgot my other roll. Called the restaurant and no answer. The quality was beyond terrible and not to mention presentation was atrocious like they just threw some rice and seaweed together. I think two stars is generous for this health department grade "B" restaurant, it's a Chinese place serving their attempt at Japanese food. No, really, the staff is Chinese. How do I know? I'm Japanese. I had a craving and was greatly disappointed. The sushi is second or third rate at best. The quality of the fish is poor and the rice was hard in the middle. The salad was brown on the edges. This would never be acceptable in a decent sushi restaurant. It may be the best sushi in the neighborhood, but that's not saying much, there's only one other spot on Fulton. Don't waste your time. If you "need" to have sushi, find another spot. read more

We have been enjoying Sushi D for many years. It has recently come under new management and I am very happy to be able to say that the excellent and friendly service is the same, the food is fresh and well presented. The three star rating is a comprimise between the 2 stars i would give it and the 4 stars my wife would give it. She loves this place and always wants to go. I don't and rarely want to go. She says the sushi is great, I say it's sub-par. They never get you drinks fast enough either. We could go there, get an appetizer, and a bunch of sushi, and they would never offer to get you another drink. I don't like having to always ask for another drink. They have a $20 prix-fixe menu that I guess they change seasonally (I have only had the fall menu so far) and is, in my opinion, an outstanding value. I loved the tuna crisps appetizer and my rolls were huge (which I actually don't appreciate, but I guess if you like big portions, it's a good thing). My fish has always been very fresh. I really liked the rolls with sriracha and jalapeno, but I'm a sushi neanderthal, and I just like everything hot and spicy. I'm thinking that the chef at Sushi D feels the same way. I also thought the coconut brown rice pudding dessert and cucumber sake cocktail were very inventive and tasty. Service is a touch overeager, but always friendly. read more

We had a great meal! Everyone working was super sweet and accommodating. We ordered the sashimi platter for 2 and split it between the 3 of us and were quite satisfied! The sashimi was thick cut and fresh. The sushi and spicy salmon roll was excellent too. A surprise favorite was the yellowtail roll with jalapeño and cilantro! The udon noodle soup was delicious and so was the miso. Seaweed salad was great too! Ended with tempura fried bananas, which were ok, but the overall dinner was wonderful. read more
