The sushi here is amazing! It's a no frills spot near the Barclays Center. The inside seemed cozy, but I got takeout. I was able to get 3 rolls for around $16 during their lunch special. The set came with a salad as well. I got the white tuna avocado roll, spicy salmon roll, and tuna roll. They were all delicious and very fresh. Each roll came with 6 pieces each, and there was a good ratio of fish to rice. The takeout was very fast, I only had to wait around 10 min. The hostess was also very sweet. The sushi is decent and portion of fish and avocado in the rolls is extremely generous. It isn't the best or the most high end sushi in the neighborhood, but as you may tell from its prices, it doesn't claim to be either. It is highly affordable especially for the area and delivers a higher quality than what you would expect from the prices. The crazy dragon special roll was amazing. It is perfect for those who are interested in a salmon base with tuna as the side chick. I wasn't crazy about the gold dragon special roll. It is basically an eel cucumber roll covered in mango slices. The maki combo entree was filling and a great bang for your buck. I'd recommend the salmon avocado, tuna avocado and eel cucumber combo out of the 5 combo options. The service was great. Our server refilled our tea every 10 minutes and was highly attentive. I've been eating terribly unhealthy food lately, and I thought it was about time I grabbed a less fattening meal. But then I started thinking about fried chicken, so I went to Mitchell Fish & Chips. They are evidently closed on Monday and Tuesday, so I ended up at Koto. (You're probably reading this review because you want to know about Koto, but I know you're glad I took you through that progression. You're welcome.) The place smelled of brine when I walked in; I wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad sign. But I sat down anyway, ordered a Sushi Deluxe, and pulled out my book. Based on the 45 minutes I spent there, Koto does a lot of takeout/delivery business, with not many people dining in. In fact, the only menus they have are takeout. But the service was impeccable, and as I sat and enjoyed my meal, I couldn't help but overhear the staff speaking Mandarin. Now, many people refuse to eat sushi from a place run by Chinese owners. I, on the other hand, am an exceptionally tolerant, gracious, and strikingly handsome man, so this doesn't bother me. At least as long as the fish is plentiful and fresh. Which it was. The sushi was made fresh and ready for us in no longer than 20 minutes. Ordered from Koto on seamless and it went, well, seamlessly! Took about half an hour to arrive at my doorstep and the order was all correct. The delivery man was perfectly friendly. The sushi was great. The rolls were relatively inexpensive, large, and really packed with fish so two rolls were quite filling (even though at some other restaurants I find I can eat much more before filling up). The fatty tuna scallion hand roll was tasty although the fish seemed to be slathered in oil or a similar liquid which was a bit odd. The spicy scallop roll and Philadelphia roll were both excellent. I've also had the chirashi (see picture) and I didn't find it as tasty as their rolls, although the portion was large. Some of the fish was chewy which was unfortunate. My advice is to stick to the sushi rolls. I will definitely order from them again on the next rainy Saturday night and I look forward to trying some of their specialty rolls as some sounded quite unique! read more

This have always been my choice spot when I'm around Park Slope and in the mood for really cheap but good sushi. Sometimes I'm wary of sushi spots that are not run by Japanese people (I tend to get subpar food-- ) but this place I can rely on being sanitary and yummy. The place is small with only enough seating for maybe 15 peopleish, unfortunately no outlets but the service is pretty fast. I think they mainly get delivery orders. The place is usually pretty empty whenever I go-- so I tend to feel a bit awkward with the waitresses waiting on any sort of request they can get, not that it's problematic or anything. My latest visit involved an order of dragon rolls, sweet potao tempura rolls, and ikura sashimi. All of it really hit the spot. The dragon roll had great texture and the sauce drizzle wasn't too heavy or salty. The ikura I almost forgot were eggs (why did I ask for sashimi???) but they placed them in a fresh little 'cup' made of cucumber and it helped even out the natural saltiness! Really good I've also had other things on their menu like their miso soup, shumai soup, pork gyoza, and I think banana tempura...? (Unless im thinking of another place). All are good, and much cheaper than the places in Manhattan. So if you're not up for the places that are true "$$"+ price ratings in the area, consider Koto's. read more
