Really not good sushi. All of it was rather dry and the rice was just clumpy and needlessly chewy. We ordered a number of different rolls - and they all tasted and looked the same. Won't be ordering from here again. read more

The worst food poisoning of my life I experienced after eating here. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Within one hour I was nauseous with terrible gastrointestinal symptoms. Spent the next two days throwing up water because I couldn't keep any food down. Absolutely terrible. Almost had to go to the hospital because I was throwing up so bad that I couldn't breathe. As mentioned earlier DO NOT GO HERE. I have notified health department, there is no way this place has an "A" health grade. It needs to be shut down; they could kill people with what they are serving. read more

Fairly disappointing across the board. Ordered the shrimp shumai, spicy salmon roll and the out of control roll. Shumai tasted like it was bought from Trader Joe's. The rice on both rolls tasted kind of old. The spicy salmon roll was crunchy? It wasn't bad but I didn't understand where thecrunch was coming from. The out of control roll was pretty good but only getting six pieces kinda sucked. There are so many options in the surrounding neighborhoods and staying away from this one would probably save you some time. read more

Great neighborhood sushi place, nothing special, but friendly, family run, always consistent.

Had delivery from them today. Ordered the seafood special which was a seafood soup in broth with noodles (I chose Udon). The broth was a bit mild and needed a bit of soy sauce but it was packed with Shrimp,mussels, clams in their shells and imitation crab. The seafood was fresh and the noodles were the right amount of pull. Also got a Californa Roll which was a standard if a bit smaller version. Fresh tasting. Delivery came blessedly fast as we have been having issues with slow deliveries lately (Kimchi Grill Im looking at you). Just went back on friday for sushi. Had the sushi lunch platter which was 7 pcs and a Cali roll. The usual lunch pieces of Salmon,Tuna,Mackrel,Red Snapper and it was all very fresh. Some of the best sushi I have gotten in quite awhile. read more

Cute family owned restaurant, and they are open late which is nice. You are coming here to have a nice meal , not for the ambiance, so know that. Their hamachi Kama was the best I have had, would stick to the sushi and not the steak, it was a bit tough but I ate it since I didn't want to waste it. read more

This is a no-frills sushi place that is my go-to spot. I tried some of the really popular fancier places in the neighborhood but this is my favorite. My usual order is the katsu bento box- really filling and delicious! Rolls are great too. Can't go wrong here, delivery is always fast. read more

Delivery on a weeknight arrived on the lower end of their estimated time of 35-45 minutes. Considering it's a 6 minute walk away I wonder how much sooner choosing pick up would be. Ordered the roll special (any 3 rolls plus soup or salad for $16) and an extra roll. The rolls were small, but the special was filling enough and there's no difference in size whether it was in the special or by itself. Downside, the shrimp tempura roll was sliced thin and the eel cucumber roll was mainly cucumber with eel sauce on top (and eel skin at best if I looked hard enough). Upside the tuna avocado and salmon avocado were bright, balanced, and rolled well. Plenty of soy sauce (one sauce container per item, so 2 for me but I only used half of one for everything). No need to squeeze every drop out of the single use packets and now I've got extra soy sauce for my kitchen. Seems like they've used prepackaged miso soup mix, so there's the standard mix of tofu, seaweed, and salty broth. Overall pretty good for delivery, decently priced and fresh. I'll walk down the street to pick my order up next time. read more

Ordered delivery via Yelp got a lunch bento box, miso, and salmon sashimi. I was hesitant to order initially based on the reviews. It came through in less than 30 minutes, was hot, and the sashimi was super fresh. It was absolutely delicious and I'll be ordering again. Thank you!!! read more

I constantly order and eat at Koto. I can honestly say that I have not once been disappointed by the food. Even though I don't get extravagant things, the simple things taste amazing. I love the chicken tempura rolls, shumai, miso soup, etc. The people who work here are extremely nice, so overall Koto is an amazing place to find great Japanese food, good environment, and friendliness!! read more

Really want to root for this place, but the last few times we ordered takeout, the rice tasted like it had been sitting for a while. We tried ordering at different times to see if it was a middle of the day vs. rush hour time but it didn't matter. Hopefully will return if they fix the issue. read more

I notice that on the window the restaurant had a food grade A. I'm not sure on what exactly restaurants are graded on, but I'm thinking it must be properly sanitized and at least clean. I had the shrimp teriyaki bento box, which was tasty,but just ok not great. I was seating facing the sushi bar while eating. The sushi chef was busy slicing fish and cutting up vegetables, and preparing customers orders. It was obvious that he had a terrible head cold, he was SNIFFING, SNEEZING and COUGHING WITHOUT COVERING HIS MOUTH. I do realize that when you eat out that you really don't known what your food has come in contact with, but to actually see this chef expelling on uncooked food, I give this place one star. We truly love our friends at Koto. Been enjoying their sushi for years and they've kept us going especially on rainy weekday nights when we need some sushi comfort. Some nights when I'm feeling lonely I wander over for a rice and fish pick me up. I love the yellowtail special roll. read more

I was extremely displeased with the service at this place.The women was rude and caused our family displeasure. The food was attrotious. It took way to long and my katsu chicken was undercooked (I believe there was even a hair in it). The women yelled at my children for taking to long to order. I don't even now why because there were no other customers there besides us. Ultimately I was extremely displeased with the restaurant and would not recommend it to anybody. read more

I only order Koto for delivery and am always satisfied with my meal. I almost always order the sashimi bento with brown rice and it never fails to disappoint. Apparently the new owners destroyed this place. We went a few days ago and had one of the worst sushi experiences yet. The highlight of our evening was the $8 toro which was literally still frozen on our plate. There were ice crystals as we bit into it, and the fish smelled well beyond its expiration. What scared us the most was when the chef asked "soo what did you like best, the toro, right?" -- "no.. that was still frozen.. uhh.. we liked.." and i was embarrassingly stalling, pointing to the plate trying to figure out which was the most edible. I couldn't make up my mind until he said "Oh so and so roll?" -- "sure, yes, that one was the best. Thanks." This place has been scratched off our list -- don't waste the money to find out it's time to scratch it off yours. --- Pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the sushi. Tried two special rolls and two normal rolls. Amount of the fish and the overall taste were extremely delicious and filling. Great bargain prices for the amount and quantities. It may not feel very authentic inside, but the important thing is how tasty the sushi is that arrives at your table. I'll trade in "fancy decor" and "5 page menu of sake" for the great improvement in the taste. That's what you get here.. a very quick, simple, and enjoyably tasty experience without the atmosphere. There's no alcohol that we saw, and when we asked for iced tea it was served to us in lipton ice tea cans.. but beyond that, i think we'll be ordering delivery from here because the sushi left us with a very pleasant taste and happy decision to have given this place a try. read more

This is by far the best sushi spot in the neighborhood! I think it's a little underrated because of its location. There's never many people in here which is good for us, but makes me worry for the business. More people need to know about this wonderful gem!!! My boyfriend and I frequent Koto and have never had a bad experience. The service is exceptional (I ordered my dressing on the side the first time we ever came and our lovely waitress always remembers that detail!) Ugh...I just love it here. It's very intimate, quiet and romantic. The rolls are seriously out of this world. The flavors and combinations are spot on. The temperature of the fish is perfect. This place is fantastic. I never went under the old ownership, but I can tell you right now that you will not be disappointed. The service is extremely prompt and very friendly, and the food is nom-tastic. I've found the fish to be very fresh, and the special rolls are rad. I love the Dragon (kind of sweet, wrapped in avocado and so yum), and the Rock'n'Roll (spicy and crunchy). The meal starts with warm towels and ends with the most amazing orange you've laid eyes on - both included in your dinner. My only complaint is that it's slow a lot, and I like a little more energy. However, I go here a lot. You should eat here! It's a great deal for fantastic food, and you'll be well taken care of. read more

We stumbled into this place because we were just looking for anyplace to eat. This is a little cute quaint sushi place, very clean. We ordered the Toro Nigiri, Spicy Salmon Roll, Peanut Spicy Sweet Shrimp and my friend ordered the tempura udon. Overall, the food wasn't bad but certainly not amazing. Their portions are so tiny and not very filling. I was still hungry after eating all my food and ate some of my friend's tempura. The tempura was pretty nice and freshly flaky which was the best out of all the dishes. Koto Sushi is a standard sushi spot, but the prices aren't the best, it's a bit pricey based on the quality and overall the quality isn't the best. It's 'meeehhh' at best. read more

Went there yesterday for a quick roll. It was not the best nor the worst I have ever had. Our waitress didn't speak much English but was really so freaking cute! The chirashi bowl was beautiful but standard. My one qualm with the food is this... Sushi, in my opinion, should never and I mean never be served warm. I don't care how fresh the rice is. The best sushi place in the area. (although maybe I'm biased since I live right above it) I moved here after the new ownership had already taken over, so I can't speak to how it compares. Maybe they were having growing pains because the sushi I've gotten here has always been above par (and I go here a lot). If you notice, the bad reviews are pretty contained to the "transition period" with good reviews before and several good reviews just recently. It's not a fancy or hip kind of place. The fish is fresh, the plates are nicely presented, a lot of days you might be the only diner in the restaurant. For a quiet lunch this is my favorite spot! (They do a lot of take out business based on my observations, so I don't worry too much about them going out of business). Service is quick and attentive. The people that work here really are oh-so-nice. They're just plain good people. read more

Love Koto. The confusing part is there is also a Kyoto (with a Y) in the neighborhood. Both are good, but I think Koto is a bit superior (which also makes it slightly pricier). I've never dined IN, so this review is based on the delivery/ take-out experience. They are always quite friendly over the phone, timely with their deliveries & I've always found the sushi and the rest of their dinner entrees very fresh. No complaints. read more

Surprisingly good sushi. From the look of the place, I expected run of the mill Japanese food that can be had at any 'pan-Asian' place in Brooklyn - there are very few excellent Japanese restaurants in the borough - but the fact that the menu had a variety of market-priced toro was a hopeful sign. We ordered in so I can't comment on the ambiance. We had the yellowtail with jalapenos and yuzu sauce, which seemed fresh and was tasty and agedashi dofu, which was good but not the most interesting I've had as the tofu was covered only in dried fish shavings, as appetizers. We had the standard sushi platter, salmon skin maki and tamago sashimi. The sushi platter was very good and looked very fresh. Interesting pieces included a salmon sushi with roasted skin and a small dollop of white sauce tasted horse-radishy but may have been something totally different, and a nice piece of unagi. I prefer salmon skin maki with a bit more salmon meat. The tamago was very good. Hibino is still the best sushi in Brooklyn and its menu is more interesting and eclectic than Koto. However Koto is a very strong second and there are frequent times when I just want a regular plate of sushi and standard appetizer fare - in those cases Koto would be my first choice. read more

If you're willing to travel off of Smith Street for excellent pizza at Lucali's, you should be willing to travel to Koto for some fantastic sushi. Don't be fooled by the generic sushi joint awning, Koto has some of the freshest sushi in the neighborhood. Their presentation of rolls and sashimi is gorgeous. I highly recommend the diced tuna, avocado and homemade wasabi appetizer. As for rolls: the rock and roll is possibly the best I've tried anywhere and pairs very well with the yellowtail special roll. Sake is also reasonably priced. We shared a nice bottle for only $12. I also second another Yelp reviewer on their Chirashi. It's excellent. read more

Ok so this place is great. Really good sushi and sashimi. And good cooked food too. Even the miso kind of blew me away. I don't mean it's just solid - it's excellent. We try a lot of places that deliver to us, and this is easily the best quality-to-value we have found. We hadn't ordered from here since before the pandemic, but every time we end up back here. Only complaint is no noodle soups. read more

Disclaimer: I've never actually eaten in this restaurant, so I can't speak for the service or atmosphere of the place. However, I've ordered delivery from here dozens and dozens of times. Basically, whenever I want Japanese, I order from here. For a number of reasons: 1) They are near my apartment (delivery is almost always fast). 2) They are on Seamless. But before I knew this, I would call and the person who took my order was very polite. 3) The delivery guys are always nice And most of all, 4) The sushi is very good and reasonably priced. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? No. But it's good and fresh and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered from there. I like getting their soups and a few orders of rolls.The bento boxes are also a great deal for those with larger appetites. I've gotten their pork katsu box a couple times, but I could never finish it all in one sitting. There are limited options for sushi in this neighborhood, so this is one of the good ones. read more

Koto never disappoints. We get takeout or dine here at least once a month. The folks are always incredibly hospitable and the chefs even look up from their task to greet you when you walk in. The food is always fresh and they have a decent alcohol menu. The place itself is a quiet neighborhood spot and doesn't get too crazy so you can actually have a conversation over dinner. This is a neighborhood Japanese restaurant from which we usually order take out. There's value and a certain level of quality and they will do in a pinch. It is not Nobu by any stretch and actually not even run by Japanese but by another Asian group. Our in-person meal was fine and much more pleasant than having to put up with a 2 hour wait at a popular Italian pizzeria who shall be nameless across the street. The salmon teriyaki was tasty and filling. The sushi rolls and pieces were small but fresh. Really nothing wrong but nothing great. They fill a void and if you want dessert, go to Farmacy for a sundae. read more

I live right down the street from Koto and I don't understand why people aren't waiting to eat there like they are at Lucali. It's superb. When I order delivery they are quick and very polite. But best of all the fish so fresh, and they have a wonderful variety of well-priced rolls. I would really hate to see this place go out of business, but unless they have a booming take out business, I fear the worst. So go eat there! And try the jalapeno yellow tail appetizer--it's perfection. read more

My gf and I get take-out or eat-in here at least twice a month because they are so consistent. The staff is so friendly, and they really aim to take care of you. I am always greeted with a smile and hello. They're appetizers are definitely unique and always surprise me, and the sushi and rolls are always so fresh. Japanese fried rice is excellent as well. Lastly, on occasion I order their tempura appetizer. It's made as soon as I order it, it's unreal, and it's the best tempura i've ever had. read more

It's good sushi. We always get it for delivery. It's quick, simple, and at or slightly above average of what you'd expect ordering sushi delivery. Usually we order salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and veggie sushi and/or rolls. I love the pork gyoza but I pretty much love any pork gyoza anytime from any place. read more

Ate a bite of my salmon sashimi. Thought it tasted off. Only after swallowing my bite did I notice the lettuce leaf they placed it on top of was wilted by a black mold. So if you want to spend the night throwing up in the ER, then eat here. read more
