But they somehow got their order before me, probably because I was ordering out instead of staying in but it took about 30 minutes not even exaggerating and all I ordered was wings and a pork bun while these people ordered way more. Ordered through seamless, mapo tofu, spice level 5, hot and sour soup, spice level 10, steam dumplings. I think their steamed dumplings were from a frozen package... Mapo tofu ended up being quite a bit spicer than the soup. Not too sure why they requested that I add on what my preference is when they don't follow it. I was craving sticky orange chicken and chewy rice noodles (you know that craving, right?) but received a gluey mess of dishes that were nearly inedible. Mind you, I read all the reviews here first and thought I'd take the plunge in good faith. Im ok with slightly greasy street food, but this was beyond the pale (as in no sauce on the pale, mushy noodles). The chicken tasted so artificial it was reminiscent of toxic floor cleanser. AKA "Tofu of 7th" aka "Authentic Szechuan". This same restaurant now has three locations listed here on Yelp. Anyway, to reiterate from my other reviews, this is hands down some of the best Szechuan food in Brooklyn. The typical Chinese-American fare is solid, though where this place really excels is in regards to their chef's specials, and house specialties menu. I was a loyal customer until today. The restaurant forgot half of my order and when I called to ask them to send it out I was told very rudely that "they were so busy" and they would figure out what happened and call me back. 20 minutes later, no call. I had to call back and ask what was happening. I was then told they could send it out but it would take an hour. The woman on the phone asked if I "understood how busy they were?" when I asked why they couldn't send out the rest of my order sooner. There was no apology. In fact, the woman then told me it "wasn't her problem" and then refused to send me the rest of my order. I cannot understand how someone in the service industry could be so rude to paying customers. The worst part is, I love their food and this is always my first choice for Chinese in my neighborhood. I understand that it's a busy night - but it's not my fault my order was messed up. Love the Sichuan dishes here, especially the Chong Qing spicy chicken and snow pea shoots with garlic. The flavor is authentic and the dishes are typical of restaurants in Flushing. Prices are a bit high for Chinese fast food--two dishes and an appetizer was a little over $40, but since these prices are normal for an authentic sit down Chinese restaurant, and the food here is delicious, it worth every penny! They have Americanized Chinese take out dishes like beef broccoli too, but I prefer to stick to the Sichuan dishes listed under house specialties, which is where they truly shine! read more

This is by far the best Szechuan in the non-sunset park area of Brooklyn. You just need to know what to order- their dumplings in chili sauce, Chong king spicy chicken, string beans, and chili prawns are all top notch. Their americanized Chinese selections are solid too but nothing to write home about. read more

So, I have pretty high standards when it comes to Chinese food. Why not? It's the food I grew up on and I care about eating well. Since moving to Brooklyn from Manhattan about 4 years ago, it has been a challenge to find solid Chinese take out. Sure, there are the pandering kind every other block from Cobble Hill to Prospect Heights. But that won't do it for me. I'd rather slave over the stove myself than to pay for mediocre food. It offends me to eat poorly from restaurants. For good Chinese meal, I would grumpily trek all the way out to Flushing every week. But it must be done. And then along came Tofu on 7th. And the clouds parted. This is very solid sichuan food that I can dine on regularly. This restaurant would hold up well in any of the competitive Chinatown with the best of them (the sichuan menu anyway). Fear not, they still have your normal pandering menu, if you are into the American Chinese dishes. But if you want some authentic stuff, flip over to their house specialties -- those sichuan dishes are the real deal. All the dry pot dishes are great. Their Mapo Tofu (with meat) is one of my go-to's. Here's a tip on getting the most out of these giant Sichuan dishes that you can't finish in one sitting. Just throw the leftovers on some fresh pasta the next day. Now you got a quick meal and some intense flavors to go with it. I always manage to get a couple of dinners out of each takeout, which is great. I do advise that you go in to pick up the food as oppose to do delivery. Their delivery is totally fine. But for some reasons, I find the food to be better prepared when I am there to pick it up in person. Perhaps they aren't so rushed. Just a side observation. In summary, great food, awesome staff. Price is fair. I am so glad I don't have to run back to Manhattan or G train myself to Queens to get decent Chinese thanks to Tofu on 7th. read more

Excellent Chinese place in an unexpected location. Formerly tofu on 7th, this place beats 90% of Manhattan's Chinese restaurants by having authentic Sichuan food and lots of it. Many places claim to have things like La Rou (smoked bacon), hot and spicy fish, cumin ribs, but this place delivers the goods. Park slope of all places, but this place is the closest you'll get to authentic Sichuan outside of flushing and bay ridge and, of course, China. We ordered for delivery. The food was very good, better than we expected. The rice noodles were tasty, the vegetables fresh and crisp; the Sichuan spicy dry chicken very sharp and flavorful. Now the downside: the delivery took 90 minutes, including nearly a half hour after we called and were told the delivery guy was right near us. I ordered lunch from them yesterday. The food was delivered in 45 mins, which was okay. My order contained, one item from "what's good" section, Kung Pao Chicken, second from regular dishes Double cooked Pork, and a Yellowtail Jalapeno hand roll from the Sushi menu under roll. After reading positive reviews I was sure the food would be good but unfortunately it was such a disappointment. The Kung pao chicken was deep fried chicken with too many peanuts and no vegetables. Kung pao is a stir-dry dish, but this one was oily, deep fried mess, floating in soy sauce. It wasn't tasty at all. Next, for the Double cooked Pork, it had more leaks than I have ever seen in a dish, it was 2/3 leaks and some pork; also, floating in soy in sauce. The sushi roll was bland and tiny! Lessons learnt, will not order from them again. :( read more
