Sushi Yu lunch special 2024
Marie S.

Delivery was quick & efficient. The sushi sashimi lunch special was good, the portion size was fine. A few pieces of sushi had to be discarded due to quality issues. As far lunch specials go, there are better options in the area. Average lunch special overall.

Crazy deals! The lunch special is 2 rolls, edamame or shumai, soup and salad for only $11!! Or 3 rolls for $14!! This is like pre-pandemic prices and the food was fresh.

Feast in Summer
Vivian T.

Feast in Summer One of the wonders of the reopened City is the vibrant scene of restaurants new and seasoned. Sushi Yu next to Prospect Park in Brooklyn is one of them. The delicacy of the sashimi depends not only on the in house preparation, but also on the coordination of international shipping from places such as Asia. Chef Tony has good news for his clients. The restaurant is reopened with flair. Master Chefs Andy and Tony set the tone for the cuisine Japanese. Additionally, new chefs have joined in. Their consistent effort has brought the summer feast to a peak. I for one, have been impressed again and again by the beauty and taste of what is in front of me. "Should I devour it?" is always a challenging question to myself. Recently, the sumptuous portions of salmon, tuna, slender long shrimp sat in the garden of red and yellow veggies on the porcelain plate. It was accentuated by a sake bottle with a surprise green leaf. The imaginative hand of the Chef with glasses had enlivened the pieces of vermilion, burgundy and translucent cream in the freshly sculpted Chirashi Sushi.

I order fried salmon I received this an absolute disgrace, plus forgot my eel sauce I couldn't enjoy my dry sweet potato roll. I came back to chef not wanting to give me a refund customer service on 0 he told me to to fuck offf

Grilled squid appetizer
Vaughn F.

Came in for sushi this afternoon, just missing the 4 PM cutoff for lunch specials. My girlfriend and I decided to share a few items, and we quickly put in an order. A couple mosquitoes buzzed around our back table, so we moved to a booth at the front. The miso soup ($2) came out first. Hot and robust, perhaps a touch sweet. Plenty of seaweed and tofu. Next, the grilled squid appetizer ($10). The dish I received seemed a few rings smaller than those in other people's photos; slightly disappointing. Still, the squid was cooked nicely, the texture was excellent, and I liked the flavor a lot. The sauce was poured on a bit heavy, but overall, decent starter. We ordered 2 pcs. unagi sashimi ($7), and received a couple small strips of eel. Tasted fine, nothing special, could've done with a larger serving. The salmon avocado roll ($5.50) was similarly middle-of-the-road. Overall, average sushi experience, bordering on meh. I might come back for a lunch special to try a few other menu items. Next time, I'll wear long pants, in case there are more mosquitoes.

My husband had the kaishin don, I had the Ozakaya donburi set and our girls shared the shoyu tonkatsu ramen. The fish was so incredibly fresh here and the rice was seasoned perfectly. My donburi set also came with dashi broth that the waitress later brought over to pour on top of the leftover rice in my bowl to be enjoyed at the end of the meal. The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Although the pork could have been better/more tender, the broth was rich and seasoned so well and not too salty like other places. Last but not least, the service here was excellent and efficient. I would definitely come back here the next time I visit Brooklyn as there were many dishes on the menu I wanted to try!

This place is super popular and I get why. It was packed but the service was insanely quick and efficient, which I appreciated. We shared the chirashi (9/10) and a spicy tuna roll (7/10) and it was honestly more than enough food for both of us. The sashimi is chef's choice so you're getting whatever's freshest that day. Overall, the quality was excellent. A couple of pieces were a little on the flavorless side, but nothing that ruined the experience. I'd still give it a solid 9/10 and would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Lots of people came in and out for takeout orders so that seems to be more of the target audience. Service was quick and polite, we were there until 9:30 and they definitely seemed ready for us to be out of there before the 10PM closing time. As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.

I saw the strong Yelp reviews and decided to take the leap with a pickup order. We ordered two specialty rolls and a spicy tuna roll. The restaurant itself is smaller than I expected, so I'm glad we opted for takeout. The staff was super friendly, and we only waited a few minutes while they completed our order. The Mystic Dragon roll was the standout for me-absolutely delicious. It had a variety of textures that gave it a great mouthfeel. I think this was my favorite of the three. All the flavors complemented each other beautifully. The strawberry sauce was unexpected but surprisingly worked! I love unique flavor combinations, and this one did not disappoint. The Torched King roll was also excellent. Salmon is my go-to for sushi, and the light torching gave it a subtle smoky flavor that I loved. The yuzu chili sauce added a nice kick--really flavorful and well-balanced. The Spicy Tuna roll was a classic and, of course, delicious. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. I think I just found my new go-to sushi spot in the neighborhood!

Our opinions were more split on the spicy tuna crispy rice (I loved, husband was more lukewarm) and dumplings (obviously very freshly prepared but quite fried).
