4 & 1/2....This mini chainlet, begat from a stall inside the Downtown Brooklyn Dekalb Market food hall, was an early entree into the burgeoning genre of upmarket, take out focused, fast casual handrail focused sushi places that have sprouted increasingly rapidly, especially in the business districts of Manhattan. I would venture to say that they are in my estimation the best of the lot, and this small yet pleasant counter centered branch on a sleepy Gowanus block has been stuck solidly in my lunch rotation for a solid 5 years plus now. I usually opt for the cut roll options over the hand rolls, save for an occasional uni or ikura hand roll when I am wiling to treat myself. The quality of both fish and rice is of remarkably consistently excellent quality, evincing exceptional skill and care on behalf of the staff. I usually opt for enjoying the good stuff in the narrow room and the small bar, as opposed to grabbing and taking it out in the smartly designed custom little cardboard branded takeout box, a hallmark of the genre. With sushi this good I feel it's best to eat as soon as possible but on the rare occasion I have taken it to go it's held up pretty well. Considering the high quality of the sushi the lunch specials rate a a squarely good value. Pro-tip: splurge on the upcharge and get a roll of the house specialty snow-crab avocado roll, a heavenly elevated version of a California roll with lusciously Alaskan sweet crab in place of the fake junk.
Little hole in the wall in Brooklyn! Absolutely love their sushi rolls and service. My husband and I have been here a few times and we absolutely love their rolls. Our favorites are the scallop, spicy scallop, regular scallop, botan ebi shrimp (it has shisho leaf and plum sauce, perfect for summer but definitely not for everyone), spicy salmon, yellowtail and the special diago bowl. All the staff are really friendly and welcoming. They also split the rolls for you if they know you're sharing them, which my husband and I appreciated. It's been our go to spot if we crave sushi and they offer delivery!
I got the seared salmon and the tuna roll. I enjoyed both of them but I wouldn't say it's especially good. I was disappointed that there were only 5 rolls in each order. Typically it's at least 6 when you order from a sushi restaurant
A little hole on the wall, tiny place but with a ton of taste. They specialize in hand rolls. I had the shrimp with crunch in both hand roll style and cut and hand roll is by far the best. The service is super friendly and accommodating. Very nice and fast. The food is ready almost as soon as you order, it is pretty fast-casual but with a nice ambiance of soft lighting and light music.
My go-to lunch spot! They have a great lunch special with really good quality sushi. 3 rolls for $19.95 and comes with either a soup or edamame. The servers are extremely attentive and the food always comes out super quick. The restaurant is small and cozy. Would definitely recommend!
I am counting down the days to come back again! A cozy little spot with attentive service. I rarely eat alone, but eating at the bar made it easy. You can watch the chef make the sushi and hand it to you directly. I walked right in for lunch hour. They have a great lunch special of 3 rolls for $19.95. Some rolls had an up charge but given the quality and freshness, it was worth it. - Toro Roll: flavorful yet light. A classic. +$2.50 - Yellowtail Scallion: fresh and clean - Botan Ebi: shrimp was crisp to bite into which was unexpected since it's raw. Enjoyable roll that's different but I may not get again because I personally found the plum sauce overpowering. (I was really in the mood for light food this day.) Highly recommended to stop by!
This Daigo is better than the one in Dekalb, and my go-to for hand rolls. The seafood is fresh, and love the minimalist seating counter - this is not meant as a place to linger but a place to get a quick delicious bite and leave. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. What sets this place apart from the Dekalb location (and other neighborhood sushi shops for that matter), is the rice. Here it is absolutely perfect: in respect to temperature, texture, and taste. But don't take my word for it, you should go try for yourself! I chalk the quality up to the friendly old Japanese chef who usually works exclusively out of this location. My favorite place in the neighborhood for good quality, quick, affordable sushi.
Have wanted to try this place for a bit. Had been a tad disappointed with some of our sushi orders from other places in the neighborhood. The amount you get in the rolls is less than you might be used to but the pieces, quality of the fish and creativity more than make up for it. They're also not out there charging the same price as a 6 piece roll for only 5 pieces, it's slightly cheaper. We got a wide selection but my choices were the spicy scallop, the shrimp with shiso and plum paste and the toro. The shrimp with shiso and plum was excellent. I've had shiso with sushi and liked it but the plum added an extra kick that I'd not experienced before. The toro was top tier as well. It also comes in a nice little box, the ginger was especially fresh and delish.
Order in from my favorite Japanese restaurant in the hood never disappointed all the rolls are fresh and delish!!!
My favorite takeout sushi spot! The fish is fresh, the rice is perfectly seasoned, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. I can't speak to the service or the vibe of the store, as I have only ever gotten delivery, but I will say that the sushi here is consistently good.
The best ! Daigo makes great sushi rolls. Very fresh and delicious. The spicy scallop roll was my favorite, the best I've had in a very long time. The other rolls were delicious too. The rolls come nicely presented in a box, very appetizing and professionally designed. All around excellent.
Delicious handroll bar in the heart of Brooklyn. Stopped in here on a whim on Monday night and the service and handrolls were excellent! I ordered miso soup because I saw the waitress preparing miso soups for a to-go orders and the color was PERFECT. The soup was flavorful and a must-order this winter. I did not get any pictures of the handrolls because I was too busy enjoying them. Will definitely be back! (Especially for the lunch special, which seems like a great deal!) read more

Ambiance was chill; rolls are made and served fresh as you go (not all at once)-- this is a delicious way to eat sushi as fresh as can be! The lunch special brought me in, the service and quality hooked me. The scallop hand roll exceeded expectations. Note- no uni on the menu currently read more
This is that classic sushi bar experience you imagine you'd get all the time in the city, but is actually quite rare. It's not crowded on the weekends during the day, it's not pretentious, you're getting quality fish with a tranquil atmosphere. We shared the edamame and eggplant to start, which were simple and flavorful. The cut rolls were delightful--our favorite was the snow crab, so fresh! The tuna was delightfully umami with the koji, but the scallop was also so velvety and had nice flavoring with the yuzu kosho, a little kick. The botan ebi was unlike anything I've tried, interesting texture with the shiso and raw shrimp, definitely an experience for an adventurous eater! The cocktail I got had sake, lemon, and club soda and was delightful. Sitting at the bar watching them make the food while chatting was such a nice experience. We spent a lot to feel full but it was worth it. Such quality ingredients and not trying to be trendy, just good food at the end of the day. I'll be back to try the hand rolls! read more

All of the pics are the maki rolls but the handrolls are what really excel here. That's what they made their name on at Albee One of the only hand roll bars in Brooklyn and one of favorite sushi spots. I've been to the one at Albee pretty much since they opened but first time at Carroll Daigo sushi rolls are fresh and packed with flavor. They will even bring it to your car which is amazing when I have 2 sleeping kids They offer indoor and outdoor seating It's a quick meal but one you can't miss. The Spicy tuna hand roll is one of the best I've had. Also love the spicy scallop, yellowtail scallion, seared salmon and classic salmon avocado. You can't go wrong here but def try the spicy tuna and scallop read more

As someone who had only knew of Daigo through the food stall at Dekalb market, I was surprised when one day on the B103 I saw a storefront for it. And since I was in the area on Saturday, I decided to make that my early dinner. But like many others, I noticed that there were two Daigos in relatively close proximity. The first one was a takeout oriented spot for rolls which is the one I saw. The other one (this one) was close to the Union street R train station and had a sit down vibe. It was definitely quiet when I arrived at around 4. There was outdoor seats but I opted for the sushi bar. They allowed me to order from my seat and had the menu set up in paper. Being familiar with the menu, I had an idea of what I wanted. However, they had special combos posted on the wall, one where you can get 5 handrolls for 29 bucks (spicy tuna, salmon avocado, eel and yellowtail). So I opted for that. Because it was relatively slow, the chef was able to make my next roll as soon I as finish the first one. The fish was so fresh and melted in my mouth. I do really love that yellowtail. I have to say it is worth it to try this place out if you can't stand the ambiance of the market but love the fish as it is more contained, it has proper seats and you don't have deal with people passing you by to go to other stalls. On the flip side, it not as easy to get to like the market (train and public transportation). Like the other location, it has a great deal on the weekdays for rolls between 11 and 3 pm so I would definitely come back for that read more
Was expecting more from here given its rated as 5 stars but my experience with the food was ok/so-so. The presentation is very neat and exciting because it's a change from the usual sushi plastic container but it didn't deliver as well on taste for me. The best item I've tried is the seared salmon - would definitely get it if I ordered from here again. I wasn't a big fan of the spicy tuna unlike other comments here. Maybe just me - but I usually love spicy tuna! - so was a little disappointed. The toro was ok - I was looking forward to a fatty tuna but it didn't have that soft fatty texture. . There is an option to have less rice in the roll but I did standard since I thought it would be fine - but felt like it was slightly too much. Would do less rice if I ordered again in the future. We also got the cod rice bowl which was good - comes w slices of cucumber, avocado, wasabi, and ginger pieces - but not something I was crazy about having again. read more

Simply fresh and great quality sushi! I finally found a great sushi restaurant for takeout and I will definitely keep ordering again. I ordered the Shrimp with Crunch & Eel Sauce roll and the Eel roll and they were both delicious. The menu has unique, simple options. The sushi is well packaged and I appreciated that. This is one of the reasons why I think Daigo deserves 5 stars. There's two locations in Carroll Garden and Downtown Brooklyn (in Dekalb Markethall). read more

We've ordered sushi a few times now from Daigo, and their rolls have been some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. This may be takeout sushi, but they pay so much attention to the presentation that it feels like a much more elevated experience. The rolls arrive neatly packaged in boxes with separate compartments for soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger, and not only does that look nice, but it also ensures that the rolls don't come out tasting like ginger just from their placement in the box. We've only gotten cut rolls so far, but they also have hand rolls and rice cups that I'm sure are equally delicious. The quality of all the ingredients, especially the fish and the rice, has been far higher than one might expect from takeout sushi, and everything has been consistently fresh and flavorful. I also really like that their roll selection has some that you don't always find at other places, like saba gari (mackerel), Alaskan snow crab (with real crab), and ika mentaiko (squid with chili-seasoned cod roe and shiso). While every single roll we've gotten has been great, my favorites are the seared black cod, seared salmon, Hokkaido scallop with yuzu kosho, and ika mentaiko. Those are absolutely incredible. I'm not really sure how to go back to ordinary sushi takeout after this, because their rolls are that good. read more

This is a small chill sushi spot. Actually my second time being here and don't regret coming back. The sushi here is great, the servers and front desk staff are great and nice and the the place is cool for a little quick date night. The prices are also reasonable too with a lunch special at certain times on specific days. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for good sushi and chill Lowkey spot to go to. read more

I don't remember how I came across this sushi spot... all I know is once I saw that they serve uni rice cups, I HAD to try it! I ordered delivery via Uber Eats a few nights ago and bought 2 Uni Rice Cups ($15/each), an Alaskan Snow Crab Cut Roll ($7.50) and a Toro Cut Roll ($9). As I'm sure you can tell from the photos, Daigo follows the Sugarfish trend of aesthetically pleasing packaging - who doesn't love that? The cut rolls were delicious but not something I'd go out of my way for again. I do appreciate, however, that the crab is real crabmeat - not a lot of places do that. And for the moment I'd been long waiting for: taking my first bite out of that uni don. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Maybe I overhyped it for myself. I'm not sure if it was because I've had fresher tasting, melt-in-your-mouth uni before or if it was because uni doesn't travel well and lost its umph during its journey to me. The rice on the other hand was great. The cup seemed a little small at first glance, but it's a pretty solid portion for $15 and can definitely fill you up (with some apps/sides). Overall it was worth the try. read more
The best, freshest rolls I've ever had. They come in a box like a beautiful little present. So far, my favorites are the spicy tuna, crab avocado, ikura (salmon roe), eel, and mackerel. But I don't think you can go wrong here. The rice is sweet and lovely, the seaweed is incredible, and the fish is outstanding (says my cutie, a tough critic). The staff are sweet and they go the extra mile with service. read more

We finally made it to Daigo this past weekend. It was a cold day (and I was trying to get over a cold), so I started with miso soup, which hit the spot...so soothing. As for sushi, I got a salmon avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll (yep, salmon is my jam). Both were good, but there's no beating the spicy sauce on the latter. The menu offers the rolls in one of two formats, either a hand roll or a cut roll. I prefer the latter, but many people seemed to be ordering the former. The hub got a cut Spicy Salmon Cut Roll, a cut Spicy Tuna Cut Roll and a Yellowtail Scallion hand roll. The fish all tasted very fresh. To me, the rice was a bit too gummy, but the hub thought it was fine. As for the menu, it includes both vegetarian and vegan rolls in addition to the array of seafood options in roll and bowl formats. The space is long and somewhat narrow -- cozy, in a good way -- with bar seating and one long high top. The bar was pretty full, so we opted to sit at the end of the high top by the door. The service was prompt and polite, with plenty of water offered. We will definitely go back when we're next craving sushi. read more

Definitely one of my favorite sushi place for its high quality fish. It is a hefty price but it is so worth it. For lunch it's $14 for 2 rolls and $19.75 for 3 rolls. Specialty rolls are additional cost. One of my favorite is their seared black cod. The seared salmon can be skipped next time. I love places where they have freshly grated wasabi. Definitely a place worth to try. read more

Disappointing as of late... We've been ordering sushi exclusively from Daigo since 2020, and we've consistently ordered the same items: salmon avocado rolls, spicy tuna rolls and miso soup. Unfortunately, today's order completely missed the mark. We were first surprised by the change in packaging - which once was all paper and branded is now cardboard and plastic, even the sauce sizes have been reduced. The miso soup was totally different - last time it was full of tofu and flavor, today it taste like it was from a paste I could find at the grocery store. Lastly, and the biggest disappointment was that the size of the rolls was drastically reduced and very uneven. read more
